South Block has a wonderful maintenance team! Its so nice to have a household solution only a click away on an app on my phone. I no longer have to wander around Lowes trying to figure out what I need or watch YouTube videos to try to attempt my own home repairs. Not only is the maintenance team prompt and capable, but they very respectful of my privacy and time.

I lived here for two years. I had very poor experiences with management (in detail on the review), the place is so overpriced and my family and I were continuously harassed by our neighbor (enabled by the property management). I have lived here for 3 years and have found the staff, even throughout changes, to be professional and friendly. Any maintenance issues are quickly resolved complete with a follow up call to make sure the work met my satisfaction. Everyone works hard but I want to acknowledge Lisa’s work to keep the grounds and floors cleaned.The courtyard is back together, looks lovely, and ready to be enjoyed.This is apartment living but it is a pleasant place to call home.

South block is a beautiful place to live. The staff are very friendly and very supportive of all tenants needs. The maintenance team are very professional and get service requests handled promptly and accurately. There is always plenty of parking. The view of Riverfront Park and the grounds at South Block are awesome! Its like an Oasis. Thank you!

We have been a resident for many years at South Block. Since Steve the manager has taken over, the customer service has greatly improved. He is very detailed and helpful with all of our concerns. Monica is a great addition to the office staff also! We are enjoying our lovely apartment home.

I visited 5 to 6 apartments before deciding on the South Block Apartments (SBA). SBA has secured underground parking with two EV chargers (I drive Tesla!), which was a must for me. The leasing office staff was friendly and was willing to show me the facility in June 2020. I was very appreciative of this because Salem at that time had severe issues with the COVID-19. My studio apartment was on the top floor (5th) with cathedral ceiling with a view of the Willamette River. I had to pay extra for these amenities but they were worth for extra money. Tenants of SBA are diverse in ages and ethnicity. It is a pet-friendly place with a dog-park just outside the building. For 10 months of stay, I had one incident of loud noise in the middle of the night, and I have to say that that is pretty good. I enjoy the quiet (carpeted) hallways. I appreciated the responsiveness of the staff to any repair issues. I am moving back to Southern California at the end of May 2020. If I return, I am sure that I will return to SBA. I will miss the view from my windows. I was able to see the changing weather of Oregon during the day. I recommend SBA without any reservation.

I’ve lived here for a few months and still pinch myself. The office staff Steve, Monica, and Jace are responsive, helpful, and overall really friendly. Maintenance and facilities are also really great and do really good job at keeping the building as a whole incredibly clean. I also know that I have neighbors on either side of me and above me but I never hear anything (huge plus for being in an apartment!). Building is super secure and having a full-size washer and dryer in every unit is also a major plus!

Staff is exceptional! Everyone is so friendly and goes the extra mile to make you feel at home. Best place I’ve ever lived.

Lived here for 3 years, moved in as a young married couple with my husband in a 1bd/1bath. Then our tiny family grew and moved into a corner unit 3bd/2bath. The office and maintenance staff do their best and my family and I were grateful for all their help.

Outside is nice and it seems like they are going for an upscale vibe. The inside though is like a budget hotel renovated to apartments. Cheap carpet, cheap paint, cheap furnishings in community areas. Price definitely not commensurate with quality.

Total slum! Ive rented here for several years through 2 mgmt companies and now 3 property managers: run dont walk away from this place. The courtyard leak-fix project has turned this place unlivable. noise all day every day. now theyre having us keep windows closed all day due to bad smells and dust particles (whatever ominous thing that is). This is in summer heat with NO central air! When I wrote to prop manager Steven about my concern that the $50 rent discount they initially gave for the poor aesthetics was inadequate for an unlivable apartment in response he copied and pasted the response that corporate sent him that tells him that they feel bad for HIM for having to field resident complaints! like i said: complete Slum!

Its great! As soon as you walk in, it feels and looks good. Everything here is so nice. Ive never lived in a complex like this one before. I love how the staff works hard to make this place feel like a community. I feel at home here!

We have lived here for nearly one year. Most of the people who live here are friendly and behave responsibly. This is a new building and, as with most complex systems, everything doesnt work perfectly the first time. When there are problems, the manager and the staff act quickly to resolve them. The staff here seem to genuinely care about creating a community where there is something for everybody here to enjoy. We enjoy living downtown where we can walk to restaurants and enjoy cultural events nearby. We are ready to renew our lease for year 2.

Excellent living, walking distance to everything downtown. The apartments are nice and the staff is wonderful. The staff put together the the cutest scavenger hunt for my grandson. South Block is community living: you ride elevators together, pass each other in long hallways and share a beautiful courtyard and community room. My experience was negative at times because of the immature residents I lived around. The staff is great, most of the residents are wonderful but you will find some of your community members are the most miserable, foul, childish and annoying people around just hope that their lease is up!

If I was able to move back into an apartment THIS would be the place I would live. I went to visit my girlfriend to study and was impressed right from the parking garage! Something that could have been so mundane was so open and you didnt feel packed in. As I went to be buzzed in (this was an easy to use system AND really seems so good for protection of the residents & guests) I noticed the manager of the site was there in her office meeting with a cute family! She even took a moment to wave at me and Im not a resident. First of all, having an elevator instead of stairs is such a luxury especially when you have kids or groceries. The inside building is so clean and very well decorated. There are little nooks off the elevators to watch tv and hang out with friends or have a quiet place to study. Theres outdoor grounds in a courtyard set up. And once in the apartment it is well decorated and laid out. Open floor plan for the kitchen. Great attention to detail in the bathroom and the kitchen itself. And quiet. It didnt sound like I was in an apartment complex. This isnt your run of the mill place. It is so amazing and felt like a high end hotel. And the location is perfection. I cant even imagine what it would be like to live in the penthouse (assuming there is one but Im fairly certain there is.) My wife and I have lived in South Block since they first opened, and we absolutely love it! We were mainly drawn to the building due to its proximity to downtown, and that has become one of our favorite features. We walk just above everywhere now. We also love the modern style of the units with high ceilings, solid surface countertops and large windows. We first lived in a unit facing the interior courtyard, and a year later moved to face west over the park.There were a few inconveniences in the very beginning when the building first opened - a few items needed to be fixed and there were some misunderstandings regarding mail, parking, pets and other details. I think it was more growing pains and some trial and error with a new building. However, we have always received quick answers to our questions and any maintenance issue has been addressed in a timely manner.We couldnt be more happy - and since moving in we have been able to convince some family members to get units here as well, and they love it as much we do. The location, the design of the building, the staff, everything has been great and we plan to stay until we have too many babies and need more space.

I moved in during Phase 1 and was here during all the construction of Phase 2 (now all completed and looks great). I can say that although there were a few hiccups at the beginning connected with the new construction and some management rollover; now things are running smoothly. The location is great, I find myself walking more as I can get anywhere downtown within minutes; management is service oriented and very helpful; multiple social events are planned throughout the year including a monthly breakfast (on pause during the summer). This is my first experience with apartment living and was an experiment with the concept; as with anything new, it takes some time to settle in but now that I have, it feels very warm and friendly.I read through the 1-star comments as I was surprised that someone would rate South Block so low based on my experience. Some had to do with the hiccups that I experienced as well, but feel they were to be expected and have now been all ironed out. As far as the office always being closed and not able to get packages, its possible that for others the standard office hours dont work well; Ive never had an issue with catching the office open after work or on Saturdays. Ive seen many reminders that packages can be delivered to your apartment if youre not able to pick it up; I was gone for a week with packages arriving, when I got back I was greeted with them already delivered into my apartment. This is much more convenient than what my parents faced at their apartment where waiting an extra day to get a package was not uncommon because the office was closed. Everyone has different experiences and it definitely hasnt been perfect but what ever is in this life? I have no complaints and highly recommend South Block for anyone who is looking for downtown apartment living.

The first impression you get is that this is a new and nice place to live. One youve stayed there for more than a month you will realize otherwise. The management staff is lazy. Surprise inspections where they will tell you its for one thing but then walk in and take pictures of the inside of your fridge. Then they will walk into your bathroom and change your fan settings. And this was on the second day. How awesome is that. Your trying to unbox your belongings and get moved in and then there is a knock on our door and they just barge in. This place is supposed to be new yet you can see patches on every wall in the entire place. No wall new or not is supposed to have random patch marks al over it. That is a product of crappy construction. But beyond that the place is horrible. The office is closed all the time and you cant retrieve your packages in a timely manner. There is green mold in the stairwells. Joggers run down the hallway instead of waiting to get outside. Its like living in a fancy hotel where you hear everyone walk down the hall all day long. The construction is very annoying as well. They start before 7am plenty of times unlike the city ordinance states they can in that area. This might look like a good place to live but let me rest assure you that it is not. They will treat you like crap with a smile on their face then rip you off in the end. The BBB has many complaints on this place so be careful before you become another unhappy tenant at a Norris and Stevens property. Many of the 5 star post on here are from the employees of this place. Like the Sonja girl. They all live there as well so your living with the help. Just saying for 2k a month I dont think so.

Shoddy construction, lack of storage, noisy, way, way overpriced. Staff is accomodating but there was a significant turn over rate - maybe its better now.

Lazy, unintelligent and dont know how to do their jobs. Its so pathetic. So unorganized. The owner says she has no list of me as a tenant yet my name is on my review here and my rental agreement....... That just shows they have no intelligence. The office is closed all the time during business hours so you cant get your packages when you want. I went down to discuss the issues here and one of the girls just sat on her laptop and the other said she would do something. Not a damn thing has been done except more disturbances from the management coming into my place under false pretenses while Im trying to sleep. You will get no peace in this place. Ive already called a tenant lawyer to handle this now. Believe me this place is horrible.

Look at the review by Sonja. That chick works here. Wow they suck so bad that they have to get employees to lie about this place. This place might be new. But the property manager is a little crook. The contractor building this place is horrible. The management are always emailing you with non sense and trying to sell you gym memberships. They have bank type floor mats everywhere so it seems like your at a bank or business. The pretentious people that live here, drop their dog crap down the trash chute. They jog down the hallway because they cant wait to do it outside. The management is incompetent and will not give you the correct information when you go on a tour. On my tour I told them I worked graveyards and wanted to live somewhere quite fort the most part. They never told me that in 2 months there was going to be full on contraction on a new building here for the next 4-6 months. All the appliances are cheap. Overall its like living in a college dorm and paying uptown prices, but the ghetto name of SouthBlock says it all.

The location is perfect!

This apartment is so bad and they care about money not about customer satisfaction.
