Cleanliness is great and the staff is amazing. I would highly recommended them. Great work guys keep it up....
Rochester Gym has plenty to offer. The cost is above what you would pay for your average gym. The amenities of this facility is what makes the difference. Cleanliness is great and the staff is even better. Plenty of classes for group activities and one on one for personal training. I have joined and would definitely recommend to others.
As on August 2021 the gym is closed down indefinitely!!
Totally awesome, The staff are very friendly and the gym is always crazy clean. The whole place just has a great vibe.
This is a real gym. They have great equipment designed for all kinds of weight training. They also have saunas. Staff is friendly and helpful. This is a good gym for beginners and the experienced lifters/bodybuilders.
Professional gym for a great workout.. Dont expect fancy instruments but you can really get a great workout done.
Nice people there to help you work out
I went to this Gym close to my house. The equipment is complete, in fact, they have many of the same equipment so that you dont waste time waiting for someone. The front desk manager, Chris is very helpful, friendly, and registers folks in a jiffy. They also have an activity room one can do Yoga, stretching or flexibility exercises. Great place to work out!!
The staff are very friendly and the gym is always very clean.
Me an girlfriend went worked out for 2 hrs. Cool old school gym staff was cool.gym was clean.i would definitely go back. An everyone was friendly no problems. Thanks for a REAL gym atmosphere.
I’ve been working out at the Rochester Gym for 10 years. The management has consistently run a friendly, clean and professional operation. Great equipment and challenging boot camp classes. The membership rates are also very reasonable. Highly recommend!
Great gym, great staff, never crowded ....
The best gym in the area, you won’t find any gym better than this gym in the area. It is old school, they got heavy dumbbells up to 170lbs, squat racks, smith machines and all machines you need for every part of the body. The staff are great. I loved everything about this gym. They also have 7 days trail so check them out and you won’t be disappointed.Ali,
I was in town for two weeks on a business trip and signed up for a week pass. It was only $15/wk. The gym is very well equipped with very nice free weights and every machine you could ask for. Plenty of cardio machines and even punching bags. Locker rooms are great and the whole place is kept clean and maintained. The staff seemed very friendly. My only criticism is there are almost no women at all!
I used to like this gym, but my satisfaction has been gradually fading. The prices have shot up even though nothing new has been offered. The equipment is dated and several machines were out of order for weeks. Its not a terrible gym, but there are better options out there.
I’ve been a member of Rochester gym for years now...it is one of the few old school gyms left in the area. Unfortunately I find Mr Dan Callahan’s review unfair and contrived. Mary, the front desk manager is friendly, helpful and always willing to help anyone asking for advice or assistance .I was a witness to the event he speaks of when the sheriffs showed up ( Dan was the one who called them... I guess he forgot to mention that!!!!) he called them because He was asked politely by what he called a “steroid boy” ( a C level engineering executive) to please act like a gentleman and stop refusing to leave at closing time and to further refrain from sending the front desk manager cruel and hurtful emails . (Copies were shown to the sheriff).MrCallahan did not choose to stop his membership. He was told his membership was terminated by Rochester gym. His constant behavior had been inappropriate and disrespectful. Mr Callahan is a vial little man whose only power is harassing women and when confronted puts his tail through his legs and calls the police all over a simple conversation... if you truly want a great workout and to be surrounded by like minded fitness enthusiasts... give Rochester Gym a try.
Its just a great place to workout. Everybody is friendly and willing to show you stuff about working out. Been going here for about 2 years and absolutely love the place.
I have been at Rochester Gym for about a year now and plan to stay for a long time. I thought its time for a review. Here are a couple of remarks from me if youre gym-shopping:1. I was at Lifetime for a year before this, LA before that, Planet and Anytime before that. For the value, Rochester gym kills all the other gyms especially if youre into lifting and bodybuilding. Its also not nearly as crowded as the others.2. I have been to gyms all over the world (Americas, Asia, Europe, the Middle East) and have not met a nicer staff than the one at Rochester Gym. The gym is always clean; the people who workout here are friendly and knowledgable. The equipment is up to date.If youre looking for a gym where you feel at home and welcome every time you enter then this is your place.
This is an excellent gym. Its got everything you need for the serious bodybuilder. Friendly staff and members. Clean. Reasonable prices. I recommend it to you.
I’ve moved around a lot, but this is easily one of the best gyms that I’ve ever been to. Everyone there is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I still haven’t been able to find a gym as awesome as this one. (They even helped me lose 90 pounds)
Nice gym for a great workout.. Dont expect fancy instruments but you can really get a great workout done.
Used to go here a few years back and it was awesome. Really sucks its going down hill. Definitely not the cleanest gym and the equipment is pretty worn
Clean and well equipped at an excellent value. Has everything any athlete would require from a gym. Seriously this place is a definite gem in the day and age of jumbo franchise fitness targeted at obese complacency. We even get to train in the same building as the generous three star giving G Montenegro! He has been training for 15 years you know. And flat presses the 150s (maybe once lol). Cant wait to see this clown!
Simple, great staff, good equipment and range of classes to chose from. Not very crowded like the rest fitness centers plus has this good homely feeling.
Solid Gym. Good equipment and friendly staff.
Great equipment, great sports place.
Strongly recommended to stay away from this gym. The staff is very rude specially Mary who works there or/and is a manager, who knows! These guys use credit cards without your authorization and then not willing to give the money back that they were not supposed to charge,I had put in a timely request to freeze my a/c for 3 months and followed their policies that they need to know in advance. They kept charging my credit card without my authorization. I called the gym a couple of times to let them know that my credit card was being charged and to remind them that my account was on hold. They did tell me I would get a free 2 month membership since it was their fault. But they never followed what they said and still charged me. I called them again.Mary, who calls herself the manager, always answered the phone whenever I called and once she hears its me on the phone she would try to ignore the call by always asking me if I could be put on a brief hold and then never come back on the phone call. I guess she knew what I was calling for and tried to ignore the calls since they would have to pay me money,This ignoring of calls happened a couple of times. Once I was put on a hold for 20 minutes and never got an answer back to any of the calls I made. That really made me doubt these guys and I wanted to find out wats going on by visiting the gym and get the money they owe me!Instead of accepting that it is their fault that they charged me without my authorization, Mary, at the reception was being so rude! Kept lecturing me and saying things like I dont care you used the gym or you did not, you will not be getting calls from us saying that you need to use the gym since you were being charged !!Excuse me! The account was put on a hold which means you are not authorized to charge my credit card. I also did have a voicemail message from the gym that I would be given a two month free membership for the upcoming months. Being a manager she did not want to resolve or even give my money back which she should since I was not late at putting my a/c on freeze but it was her charging me without my permission and then not willing to give the credit back or even a good three month free membership,She also started making false claims, that she already credited my account. I told her i have access to my bank account and i do not see any credit from you guys.I just do not want my credit card used without my permission and so I had to cancel my membership just to not loose any more money.I cannot hand over my credit card to people who would use it without my permission and then not care to give the money back. They are still not willing to credit me the money that they charged me while the a/c was on freeze!I have now put in a cancellation notice but that too makes me nervous about my credit card still being charged even after giving them a 30 day notice and also them owing me money already! I have joined Lifetime fitness who atleast provides a better customer service and a polite staff.. I already see a lot of bad reviews for Rochester gym and Mary!
Keep in mind when pricing things out, you will pay for an extra month. The gym is packed, and contains dirty old equipment. This may be common at other gyms but still very annoying; you must cancel a month ahead of time, and u can not prepay for a select time (I knew I was only going to use it for the summer and wanted to prepay that time). So when I found out I was being sent to Germany, and wasnt going to be there the next month, I canceled right away; however I had to come in to cancel and it wasnt soon enough, so I am paying for an extra month they know I wont use... They are scammers with a system they know will get you to pay more they you want or need.
Iv been a member for a few years now and I love it. Definitely recommend
Their own workers do not understand the policy. was told i would not be charged and i was charged, manager basically told me to screw off. terrible customer experience since the og manager steve left. never returning
Great if you just want to work out and not be bothered by frills you pay for but dont use at giant chain gyms
Great staff, equipments pretty good but some pieces do need some maintenance.
Sauna experience ruined by someone listening to weird conservative talk radio at high volume in a closed space. Glad I left Michigan. So many weird people.
I havent had the issues that others have had with the gym charging my card when not authorized to do so. I like that as a student out of state that comes home for a few months at a time, this is among the few gyms i have found that will let me pay monthly without excorbiant surcharges. All i want is to run and lift some weights.. and there is a decent selection present. The bathrooms seemed to be clean also, and rhere is a sauna/blow dryers. I like that there is a womens only room as well. The only gripe i have about this place is sometimes they have weird hours on the weekends, and as a female i sometimes feel intimidated as the gym seems to be geared towards heavy lifters, and I am not super in shape. But everyone I spoke to at the gym was friendly and nice.
Beats any gym Ive been to based on the goals Ive always wanted to accomplish.
First, for all those reading this review, Id like to share that Ive been lifting since the age of 15 (more than 15 years) with a totality of about 1 years worth of breaks from the gym, realistically. Im not a beginner nor novice by any means. I do body building (when I feel certain muscle groups are lacking in size), power lifting / strength building, and endurance training (body building about 6 months out of the year, typically. Power lifting as well 6 months typically intervals with bodybuilding, strength building for 1 year at a time, as well as endurance training for 1 year at a time, I never mix and match through out the year as that breaks momentum if you will).I do not do any shows, I dont do this for a profession, though it may look like it (not exaggerating). This is strictly for health, power, strength, and endurance. With that said heres my review:The DBs reach up to 155lbs (awesome since Im currently flat pressing 150lbs)A handful of these DBs you can tell have been chucked around, theyre horribly bent and incapable of gripping and balancing these DBs during pulls and presses. Trying any movement with these is just begging for an injury, light or serious. They should take some of their profits and update/replace their DBs.Also regarding the placement of DBs.. its almost as if theyre scattered around, not organized on the rack, but its the rack that seems to be labeled in a disorganized fashion. They should consider reorganizing their DBs.The grips on the traps iso-machine are kinda loose, not fun to grip with 4 plates or more on each side. Theyre better off removing the foam grip and just using a strong adhesive tape to wrap around the grip. Plus no one really wants to feel a mushy foam grip when theres a lot of weight at hand. The gym lacks longbar row setup. This exercise is amazing for adding strength and mass to the entirety of your back. I dont think I can go without my longbar row.. Ive made it to 7 plates @ 6 smooth reps, I would hate to lose that pulling motion and the strength with it.Theres two squat racks there that have solid sides (non-adjustable), so going ATG on squats is impossible as the barbell taps the side bars which in turn breaks my focus and my balance.. not fun when doing 405lbs+If youre serious about squatting, avoid these two racks.. serious squatters go ATG by the way, otherwise go do leg press. If you like doing standing cable flies (for those of us who like to stack massive weight for real punishing reps), forget it. Theres a machine there that only adjusts the arms up and down (vertical). The arms are too far wide apart putting a gruesome amount of stress on your rear delts and overall rotator cuff. And this was with only 90lbs (my last set normally ends with 160lbs on each cable/hand), a warm up set, mind you.Only people capable of using this machine specifically for cable flies, hell even cable crossovers, should be those with a literal 7 foot wing span. Not exaggerating. They lack flat benches for DBs. If my memory recalls correctly, its 2 adjustable incline, 2 flat, 1 decline (people still do decline bench? lol), and I think 2 seated benches (for shoulder press for example)Everyone knows Monday is chest day.. (lol) so avoid doing chest on Mondays at this gym.. at least if you use DBs.The environment in general is pretty cool.. you can tell its cliqued up. Ive already had several groups look at me, not sure if hatin, envy, curious or what.. they dont say anything, or at least approach, only one person has been friendly there besides the staff. But with my kind of personality thats fine.. I dont go to the gym to socialize and waste breath/energy outside of waging war against the weights. Also, dont be surprised if you can find dat der celltech at this gym, theres one group that were just obnoxious about their tech use. I dont know if they were blatantly just advertising it or simply so proud of their accomplishments having to use it that they didnt realize how loud they were about it.Hope this helps.
Good equipment, Good staff, and very reasonable!
2 power racks, cool people, nice staff
Pretty bad place. Smells bad much of the time, and they aren’t very friendly.Canceled my membership last week, and they tried to charge me for another month, even though I canceled on the day it would reoccur.
Ive been a member here for 12 years. The employees are friendly and the environment is clean.
Its really gone downhill
Great gym
