My elderly in-laws had a heat pump go out this past weekend. We called around to attempt to get their AC back on during this recent hot spell in Richmond VA. Gundlach sent out a tech on a Sunday. Stated it would an after-hours service call. They provided no quote as to how much after hours would be.Luckily I was available to meet with Willy their service tech prior to any work being agreed to. Willy diagnosed a bad capacitor, which can be a common problems and a relatively inexpensive fix. Normal rates and parts would be around $150. We have had it done to our own heat pumps in the past year.Gundlach chose to take advantage of the situation with my elderly in-laws and attempt to quote me $625 for a service call and fix. They refused to offer a more reasonable rate.I quickly dismissed Willy from the property and went and bought a window unit as a temporary fix. Found a reputable HVAC tech who installed it properly the next day. For the window AC unit and the new tech it was cheaper than Gundlach for after hours service call quote.Definitely get a second opinion with Gundlach. They will attempt to take advantage of situation with unethical pricing.Never calling them again!

We lost our AC on a Thursday night but didnt notice until Friday night the weekend of Memorial day. I waited until Tuesday to call but they were right out! Found that the fan motor had gone bad causing my system to freeze. They offered a repair or replacement and were fully transparent about the pros and cons of both options. They promptly had the whole system changed out. They even ran into some issues from the previous installation that required a lengthy visit. They promised they would have us in a cool home by nightfall and they held true. They were courteous and confident, polite and honest! They were transparent throughout the whole process! We are very appreciative!

Sometimes you are lucky enough to find a company that exceeds your expectations in both service delivery and professionalism. Well, we found that with Gundlach when an old heat pump finally bit the dust. From the analysis of the problem to the counseling on our options, we always felt that we were in good hands and getting sound advise. Further, after committing to a replacement, the installation process could not have gone smoother. A special thanks to Jose and Matt for their wonderful work, great communication on the process, and going out of their way to make sure we were satisfied with the end product. Experienced a weekend plumbing emergency involving a damaged shower faucet that ultimately needed replacing. Two guys came out within a matter of hours on a Saturday afternoon and diagnosed the problem and offered an estimate immediately. It was late, so they offered to plug the shower, so we could turn water back on to the house, and return on Monday to fix the issue. At 8am on Monday morning I was able to speak with Joe to schedule a 2:30pm appointment for service. Cory arrived on time and ready to work. He was polite and professional. He got right to work and found a solution that caused the least amount of damage... not taking out a wall to access the pipes. Instead, he went old school fixing the issue with a great soldering job, resulting in lower cost and repair time. He was very courteous and respectful. I am very satisfied with Gundlach and will definitely call on them again next time I have an issue. My appreciation to the entire team!

Jose, David and Roy removed our old and installed a new AC unit for us. They were professional, worked well together, performed their work admirably and even assisted in the leveling of another unit (heat pump) which was not part of the contract. Their work was high quality and above and beyond our expectations.

We first met Jose when he installed our new AC unit last summer. We were so pleased with the work of the technicians, and the wonderful support of the scheduler, that we decided to call Gundlach again when we needed to replace our HVAC system. Jose and David make a great team! They arrived on time each day, worked their hearts out, and made sure to clean and remove any trash from the job site before heading out for the day. They were very friendly, explaining each step in the process, and did a fantastic job! My husband and I are very pleased, and highly recommend Gundlach!

Gunlach plumbing A total rip off. Dispatcher on Saturday am said it would not be an after hours service call. So at 3 pm on Saturday the technician and weekend supervisor said we came out after hours. Ok so if that’s not bad enough how about a total cost of $675 dollars to replace a wax cake and inside valve and gasket. Tech said a new toilet from them was around $800. Flushed them out my door. Will call Michael & Sons Monday. They are much more honest

Gundlauch was out at our office yesterday on short notice to handle a plumbing emergency. They were prompt, thorough, and efficient. Wed definitely use them again.

We had a plumbing emergency yesterday and had never used Gundlach before. Despite not being a previous customer, they were very quick to send Corey to us. Corey did an excellent job evaluating the situation and making suggestions for repairs. He was thorough & professional. We will definitely be calling Gundlach again for future plumbing needs, and we will request Corey - excellent tech!

My property management company uses this company. I requested them to NEVER call these guys again. They overcharge and add-on costs upon arrival to take advantage of customers. AND, they never fixed the issue! STAY AWAY FROM THEM IF YOU KNOW WHATS GOOD.

**UPDATED REVIEW**The owner called my mother after I posted this initial review. She called me at work to tell me about it, distressed, and said he had been very loud and upset, mentioning slander and demanding she tell me to take down my review. My 11 year old son and my wife were talking to her on her cell phone on speakerphone when the owner called her landline, and said it was evident just from hearing her end of the call that he was aggressively upset and interrupting her repeatedly. Honestly, if the companys response had been any acceptance of even POSSIBLE responsibility instead of blame shifting about a miscommunication as though she cant tell the difference between a masked and unmasked face, I would have deleted the review figuring everyone messes up sometimes. But shes just an older person, that doesnt mean shes in a vegetative state for cripes sake, and she can see if there is a mask on someones face or not. Unlike an employee, she has no reason not to tell the truth about it. She was very happy with the price and that her heat works, and so am I. Aside from the mask issue, and the way it was subsequently handled by the owner, we had no other issues with the company. I do live three hours away in Maryland, so I was not there when her furnace was serviced - but neither was the owner. Hopefully this ends it and the company will just move on and the ruckus will prompt a little more awareness about COVID safety.----------------------------------------------------------------------They came to service my elderly mothers furnace today. She is 82 years old. BOTH workmen were in her house for an extended period of time, working, discussing the problem with her, and taking her payment (for which they didnt even offer any receipt or any proof of work performed) and did not wear a mask!!! She said hopefully that they were tall enough that maybe they didnt breathe right on me. For any company to allow their workers to be so careless with another human beings life is reprehensible. By law they should be masking, and I know lots of people skip doing so 100% because its difficult and uncomfortable - but when you are around an elderly person who everyone knows is in an extremely high risk group for death if they contract it, there is NO EXCUSE! She has been shut in her home for 10 months to protect her health and life and is still waiting for a vaccine, and they just threw her efforts to protect herself away. I dont care how well they perform their tasks - I would never encourage anyone to use a company that is so cavalier with the health of their elderly (or any) customers.

Had a tech come out to the residence (Jim), was FANTASTIC and THOROUGH....was very knowledgeable and very patient with any and all questions. Would HIGHLY recommend this tech along with this company. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!

I was out of town for the weekend and my buddy sent me a message that my water heater broke down with some water leaking into the bottom pan. My buddy called one of the other plumbing and heating services in the Richmond area to come check out the heater, 2 guys (from same company) showed up, took a look at the heater for about 5 minutes and told my buddy that we need a new water heater that cost about $2000 (without installation cost). I called GUNLACH upon my return to Richmond the following day but it took me searching through my emails to find a service receipt from 2018 to realize Gunlach was the plumbing/heating service I used when I first bought my house. A service technician (Haden) came to my house the next morning. I had a good feeling about him just few minutes after I met him. He told me he would take a look at some of the water heaters components and we agreed to get a new heater if it couldnt be repaired. The great news is....Haden was able to do the repair after a couple of hours for a fraction of the cost of a new water heater. This guy Haden is as GENUINE as they come. Ive already told my friends and coworkers about GUNLACK, I highly recommend them.

Al Harper from Gundlach did a phenomenal job with our plumbing issue. He was very personable, timely, and communicative, and the overall cost of the service was extremely reasonable, even with it happening on a Sunday. As first-time homeowners, we appreciate that he took the time to explain to us what was happening, why it happened, and what we can do to avoid it happening again in the future with our old pipes. We hope to not have to call for a plumber anytime soon, but if we do, we will definitely be calling Gundlach!

Needed some work done in my bathroom and two courteous, professional, and competent technicians (John and Al) arrived earlier today to take care of the problems. They explained to me what had happened and fixed everything in a timely manner. Gundlach is a wonderful company and these two gentlemen exemplify the highly qualified technicians they employ.

Our shower needed to have the temperature regulating mechanism in the handle overhauled. The technician (Daniel) arrived at the appointed time, was very personable (often a rarity with plumbers), professional, and knowledgeable about about his profession. Excellent work done by a pro!!! HIGHLY recommended!

As a new homeowner and clueless female, I was leary about having a plumber come to the house. From the customer service on the phone to the technician(Al) that did the job, I was very pleased with the experience. Everyone was professional and very helpful. Al explained to me what he was doing and showed me everything before proceeding which made me feel better about the process. I would definitely recommend them for any of your plumbing needs!

Had to have a new HVAC system installed. It only took 1 week from the evaluation to having the job complete. Install was looks and works great. It was neatly and quickly done by Jose and Dave. Afterwards they walk me through everything and cleaned up. Great job

Exceptional service by Gundlach! I made an emergency call on a Saturday and within a couple of hours Randy was at my home. He walked in wearing covers over his shoes, which I really appreciated and was able to identify the problem quickly. Gundlach was transparent with their pricing and although I was anxious to not have water coming down from my ceiling, I was glad Randy showed me a price comparison for weekend work vs coming back on a week day. He did a great temporary fix by punching two small holes (with my permission) into my ceiling that allowed water to drain from the panels into my kitchen sink. The payment app was being finicky and he made sure to follow up with the accounting office to make sure I was only charged my $89 service fee once. When he and a co-worker returned to my house the following Tuesday, they were courteous and professional. I really appreciated their efficiency and was on my way to work by mid-morning. Will definitely use Gundlach again and send other folks their way!

Had Daniel and Wayne come out to take a look at what I was told by another plumbing company was a belly in my pipe - located under a concrete slab in my family room. Other company want to put in a clean out (which they said I did not have) and dig up my floor to replace the pipe. Wayne found the clean out located in my yard. Daniel ran the camera and they found that I did not have a belly - it was just old pipes that needed cleaning out. These guys worked hard to figure this out and could not HAVE BEEN MORE HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGABLE. Gundlach - you have my business forever!!!!!!!! Wayne and Daniel are the best. SO kind and helpful and know what they are doing

John and AL were phenomenal. They came over extremely fast for an emergency and quickly identified the issue and had it fixed. The entire time they were working they were very knowledgeable, friendly, and great to talk to. I wont hesitate to call them again any time Im in need.

For the past several years I have been a customer of Gundlach Heating, Cooling, Plumbing & Electrical. I contacted them late on a Saturday about a water leak at the line to my house. I preferred to wait until Sunday morning and the two techs were there promptly at 8 am. They were done in one hour and fortunately, it was a loose coupling.

John came out to repair a leaking toilet. He was very courteous, competent and great to work with. He went above and beyond when evaluating another problem. Gundlach is fortunate to have him and many other technicians with whom Ive dealt.

My water heater sprung a leak and the previous contractor that I contacted did not return my call. I called Gunlach at 10 am, they arrived at noon. I went to Home Depot and purchased the WH and it was installed by 3 pm. Excellent service by very knowledgeable and polite service men.

Instead of replacing my water heater they charged me half the cost to fix it and then after it didn’t work charged me for a new one....

Dealt with Gundlach on behalf of sister-in-law who is in the hospital. Frankly, will never use them. First, they put in brand new heating and cooling system I think she paid way too much for (I checked with other licensed plumbers after the fact). She had issues withe installation; pipe burst and caused a leak in her ceiling. Gundlach had to come back several times to correct the problems. Several months later, she decided to sell the house and downsize. An HVAC inspector (not from Gundlach) found loose/missing fittings; shabby duct-work (heat was pouring out under the house). Gundlach was called and they came back out again (at no charge thank goodness) to fix the problems. I thought given the circumstances we would be contacted one last time to inform us of the work done, etc. This did not happen. I called Gundlach and was assured the work was done right this time. I then asked why wasnt this work done right the first time? There was no response nor apology from the person I spoke to on the phone. Based on the reviews, Gundlach has done good work for many customers, but not this one.

We used Gundlach to address multiple plumbing issues in our home. I would highly recommend their services. They arrived on time both times they came out and we received a telephone call when they were on their way. The repairs were made quickly, though not rushed, and we are extremely pleased with the efficiency and quality of the process!

I have a new heating, air, plumbing, and electrical contract with Gundlach for my newly purchased historic home. While temperatures continued to plummet this winter, (2017-2018) Gundlach made every effort to check out my pipes and thermostats without hesitation during those busy below freezing days. My scheduled maintenance was thorough, Gary and Zach were more than courteous, they were informative, happy to answer questions, and were able to date, clean, and set my units to optimum capacity until the next spring cleaning maintenance schedule. Im very pleased and have a bit more peace of mind knowing they didnt hit me with any unnecessary costs. Gary answered my questions regarding the system and is available at any time if you forget to ask later on. I just want to thank him for being honest, considerate, available, and knowledgeable.

I have used this companys services for many years as I feel they are extremely trustworthy and very fairly priced. My work began in December for my heating unit--work managed by Kevin who has made sure the work was completed and worked closely with me. Today, Gary was here to work on ac portion of my work. He was GREAT!! So friendly, knowledgeable and explained everything to a woman who knows little about this stuff!! He went over and above today and I am so appreciative for him. Called Gundlach May 21, 2019 after another company told me my main pipe needed to be replaced and it could not be cleaned due to a clog. Al came 1st thing May 22. Checked water flow and main pipe all was working fine. Al calmed my fears of a major problem with my plumbing and gave me a price lock for any future date if and when main pipe needed replacement. Peace of mind is Priceless. Al did a fine job and I will definitely call company with any problems in the future.

As usual, Gary was knowledgeable, competent, complete and courteous. I always feel his number one goal is to do the job right. Gary recently evaluated a complex AC issue, came up with possible solution, carefully explained the apparatus he was recommending, got it ordered and installed very efficiently. I have their service contract and it really gives me peace of mind. Their service is always professional and Kerry was my technician for recent service on my furnace drain which was backed up. Excellent company! Courteous professionals, communicated every step and cost. Fairly priced and some discounts. We called them for an emergency A/C situation and then for A/C maintenance on both units and will be back in the Fall for heating maintenance.

I can only rate on their immediate response... Woke up at 3am with no heat!!! after calling 2 others places and waiting 3hrs, with no response, I called Gundlach. Their on call technician called me within 40 min. He shared the emergency service fee and approx time he could get here, (around 7am) and let me know that the office opens at 8 if I wanted to wait, and save over $100. Thanks, will definitely being using their services today!

I’m the quintessential DIYer when it comes to home projects, well, I was wrong. Replaced a water heater in my mom’s home, got the piping all ready to sweat, and could not get the pipes hot enough to solder. I was in trouble! “Sorry mom.” I didn’t know of any plumbing services when I came across a Gundlach Plumbing ad on-line. Called the office up and they said they could get out here in 3 hours. Considering the mess I was in, I thought that was great! I was wrong again because the technicians immediately called me back and said we’ll be a half an hour. I was like WOO-HOO! They arrived on time, looked at my mess and immediately came up with a plan to salvage and save my project. Now, they could have told me, this is all wrong, we’ll have to start from scratch like most companies today would. But they didn’t. They were completely honest with their assessment of the situation. Thats something I really appreciate from a company. They fixed my problem, gave me a great price, tidied up everything and were on their way. 100% total professionals! Will I use them again, YES. Had the great pleasure of having Gary work on my HVAC system in a residential condo building. Amazing service and great team - Gary was a straight shooter and also knows how to explain what he did to the customer. In my opinion, this exemplifies the knowledge he has about HVAC. Called them to get a leaky gas valve replaced. Having heard nothing back from them until four days later, I called back. I was then told that they just werent going to be able to do the work and that quote Were just not gonna be the company for you. from the representative on the line. No actual explanation was given as to why they were not doing the work, and when I inquired about the reason none was given. The representative then promptly hung up the phone.

Thank you so much to the Gunlach team. You guys took customer service to a whole new level in resolving our HVAC system problem. I would suggest anyone looking for an team to get their work done, look no further as these are the guys to do it.

Jim was here this morning (right on time !) and was his usual friendly, helpful and knowledgeable self. He and all of the other Gundlach pros I have talked with have always given me full disclosure about prices, options and best plans. I will continue to use Gundlach for all of my heating, plumbing and a/c needs.

Called them to come out and do some repairs on a gas line Friday. They said they would send someone out to do the work. I called back four days later to see if they were still coming, and they said they didnt have any availability. I asked when the might he able to come, and they said they werent going to be the right company for me. What does that even mean? If you didnt want to do the work why didnt you just tell me four days ago? Ive got a GAS LEAK.

Heating unit died in the middle of our coldest period in late december. Gary responded in a most timely manner and determined the problem post haste. He is a knowledgeable and reliable technician and his kindness was respected and noted. I would recommend Gundlach without hesitation.

I called them due to an emergency I was having. Dispatch first sent out the wrong technician. We called dispatch back and were told that someone would be out later in the evening. Another person from the company called and he was very short, rude and disrespectful. He then hung up the phone on us and never called back. We called dispatch for a third time and just asked to have someone come the following day. We were told we were on the schedule at that point. After waiting several hours the next day, the company called and said they would rather not help us. No explanation was given. I called another company, Carroll Heating and Plumbing, and they fixed the issue within a matter of hours. I am not sure how this company does business by sending out wrong technicians, being rude, hanging up the phone on people and then refusing to do work that was already scheduled to be done.

On a Sunday morning my heating wasnt coming on and I checked the web and called Gundlach. After talking to a tech it made sense to schedule on Monday. Gundlach followed up and Gary and Chris came on time. Gary diagnosed and explained everything clearly. Things were running in under an hour. Very satisfied with fantastic service.

This team did an exceptional job on my newly purchased property. There was a significant job to be done and they were able to schedule quickly, showed up on time, communicated perfectly, did a wonderful job and most importantly of all, did the work at a reasonable price point. All of my experiences have been excellent with Guadalcanal Plumbing and Heating. They deliver a prompt and professional service. The staff that I have encountered such as Joe, Johnny, Danny, Dawn and Ellie have all been informative and accommodating.

This is a very great company. The manager Gary was very respectful. Gundlach did a wonderful job.

This companys rates seem too high. They quoted a price so high to rebuild a toilet that I paid them an $89.00 dispatch Fee but did not agree to have them do the work. In other words, I paid them $89.00, for just showing up, and had somebody else do the work and still came out ahead. The plumber was a very nice, customer oriented person, the only bright spot.

This company is pleasant to work with. Fair pricing, on time and professional. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for HVAC service.

I have known Gary professionally for last 11years now he takes care of all my HVAC requirements and is great at his job and knows what he is doing. He is prompt, efficient and will always find time to come and take care of the issue.

For the past 13 years, Gundlach has been servicing our unit twice a year. Jim has maintained the unit and finally after 19years our Trans was having difficulty performing. We called Gundlach and Joe set an appointment with Roy, who immediately came to the house with options for us. We chose another Trans and were scheduled in for replacement 2 days later. Being that the house was without air conditioning and the temperature was so hot, Gundlach provided us with a portable room air conditioner. We were so happy and amazed when Gary and LeShawn set the unit up and were grateful that Gundlach thought about our comfort and need at this time.On Friday, a crew from Gundlach, James, Kevin, Chris, LeShawn, Roy, Gary, Hector and if we forgot anyone, we five you accolades also. Gundlach did a phenomenal job replacing the air handler and the heat pump. We could not ask for a better company to service our home. We cant say enough or give enough accolades to a great group of people from Gundlach. Called Gundlach to get estimate on replacing evaporator coil. They said would be $89 service charge. Repairman comes out confirms I need new coil, tells me they’ll call me with estimate next day and bills me for $168 “because I had to get tools out”. How else do you diagnose? Gets worse-they don’t call and only after I call repeatedly not only do I not get the estimate I called Gundlach for initially, guy tells me they only are interested in full replacements. I stated up front it was coil replacement, so I got ripped off for $168 to tell me what I already knew!

Jim Taylor was our service technician. Johnny was our technician for several years and was very thorough and took pride in his work and Im happy that he has advanced in the company. We look forward go working with Jim in the future, he was thorough, patient, helpful, answered my questions and made sure everything (the heater and thermostat) was working properly.

Gary came quickly to my call that I was getting no cool air from my heat pump. He found the problem: a copperhead had shorted out the condenser! He removed the barbecued snake and proceeded to replace the condenser only to find out, after much analysis and testing, that the compressor had been fried. I was impressed with Garys expertise and his good manners. He wore covers over his feet so as to not track in dirt from outside. I am very happy with Gundlach and will call them again from my HVAC or plumbing needs.

Prompt friendly and well informed folks. Called ahead to let me know they were on their way and arrived as planned, did the work and gave me some good advice. These are our go to guys for plumbing repairs and service!

Our technician, Joe, was amazing as was the support from Gundlachs. After fielding our call on Sunday and reassuring us that hed be at the house first thing Monday morning, Joe did exactly as promised. He promptly showed up on time Monday morning, was courteous and friendly then proceeded to go about his business. When he found what was believed to be the problem he fixed it then left. I noticed that although he indeed fixed one issue, another developed. I called Joe back and he returned immediately to further diagnose the problem. Once the repair was made the heat flowed ! Joe went above and beyond expectations. He crawled under our house repaired clogged pipes and didnt leave until he and we were satisfied with the repair.I/we strongly recommend Joe and the Gundlachs support team to remedy AC/Heat or other issues that may arise.We are EXTREMELY satisfied customers !!! I recently tried to be the big man on campus and fix the bad leak in my tub faucet. I went to Lowes, bought the parts and presto... the leak was gone bit the shower wasnt getting any water! So I decided to call Gundlach. Tim Merchant and his assistant came out ( and I feared a huge bill ) after careful assessment Tim made a couple of suggestions that could fix the problem at little cost to me ( how about that! ) The final result he went the extra mile made sure every component was working right, and got the shower n tub working like new again - and all for a low price! I kid you not! He could of slapped me a huge bill for the time he was there and how important this job was for me... There are a lot of good plumbing services in town but I will always choose Gundlach... Cause Tim Merchant is honest, professional, smart, a craftsman and acts like the bill is coming out of HIS pocket! Gundlach is on my A-Team!

Gundlach is the most professional, responsive and courteous plumbing company I have ever dealt with. It takes a lot to impress me but I will be recommending Gundlach to all my friends, family and clients.

Today, Robert came out to service my HVAC system. This technician is very knowledgeable and took care of my every need. Thank you for hiring such an exceptional individual. I am totally blind, and Robert talked me through every step and process he needed to do to bring my HVAC back to full performance. I cannot say enough about how well Gundlach took care of my needs. I know that I can trust what they’re doing and why. Gundlach is simply amazing and trustworthy. Robert put me at ease and I would use Gundlach again. Robert had noticed that I had lost something outside of my back door and told me about it. He also noticed that the gas pressure was low and took care of this. Thank you once again for great service.

We were on well water and when the water turned brown we knew was time to connect to county water. I called Stemmle twice over a period of several days but they never returned my call. I called Gundlach and Wayne Abbott came the next morning. He provided us with temporary water supply until the installation could be completed. We are now Gundlach faithful customers. I called and spoke with Joe about a sink issue at my rental home. He was very polite and explained to me that an initial fee of $89 dollars would be due for the trip but would be included in the total of the bill if the job was done by their plumber. I agreed. They had a plumber on the job site super fast. The plumber then calls me and says I know what you were told about the $89 dollars but yea, forget that. This is going to be $330. He was extremely irritable. $330 to snake a drain. He snaked the drain, sloppily slapped leak tape over a leak on the same drain and left the house without fixing the leak. Sorriest excuse for a plumbing company Ive ever had the experience of dealing with. I called Any Time Emergency Plumbing and dealt with Illya who was very professional.Update: After expressing disappointment in the service I received a call from Gary. Gary was very calm and was aware of this review however it was clear from the onset that this was nothing more than a collections call. He interrupted me numerous times when I attempted to answer his questions and was extremely condescending, at one point going so far as to smugly imply that I dont know how to read.I CANNOT stress enough how horrible my experience with this company was. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I came home from work at 9pm to find out that my upstairs air conditioning wasn’t working. The weather had been hot and humid for weeks and there was no way I could sleep without AC. Gary came out immediately, even though it was after hours. He was great! He explained everything that was happening so that I understood what was going on. He really knew his stuff! Turns out he was the manager and made night calls!!!So very greatful for Gary and his hard work and to the Gunlach company. You were wonderful and would definitely recommend you to everyone!!!

I have used Gundlach on several different occasions, and Ive got a proposal from them I am considering. I have always found them reasonably priced, courteous and prompt. The thing I really like about them is they arent always attempting to sell me something!
