I’m aware Gregg’s charges a bit more than the average independent service shop but that was OK as what I was looking to get done was the same inspection I had them do when I purchased my Honda years ago. It includes a list of all of the parts of the car with check boxes and notes for each item. At that time this car checked out with flying colors which later cost me a LOT (expensive new hybrid battery, thousands trying to fix the “check engine” light and only made it to 162k miles now vs an older highlander I have driving fine well over 225 miles. In hind sight seems maybe a bad purchase). The car had been sitting for a long time due to prior inability for multiple shops to help me properly diagnose and fix issues with the check engine light. We had started to clean it up (aware it has been sitting and we need to do a few things). But ultimate goal is to just sell it either more “wholesale” as-is or maybe fix it up more depending if this shop knew what was really likely wrong to fix or at least have an honest list I can provide to the buyer so they know what is going on with all of the parts of the car. Before I brought it here we spent some time getting it basically clean by hand & a car wash, got an oil change elsewhere where they tested the main battery which was fine (we did jump it the first time but it was not longer needing jumps to start). We also knew it has sat and likely had animals able to access it so we asked this other shop to check the cabin air filter. No sign of rodents but definitely very dirty so we put a new one in. Then I took it and had the tires rotated and inspected where I always buy my tires (they are all good also). Then I come to Greggs. What I got back was nothing close to helpful, it did not include the inspection list I thought I was paying for (how is the suspension? Etc no idea) Greggs was very distracted that the car had been sitting and listed the codes from the computer (a list of every code we ever had not even able to tell which is current - I could have done this free myself at any parts store). The recommendation was that the car has such a serious rodent issues that they need to charge me over $600 in cleaning it up including replacing the cabin air filter and battery to even do the inspection they just charged me for. Just to note those are two things another mechanic either just replaced for me or confirmed I don’t need.I now feel the shop wasted my time, money and is very dishonest. My family has used them for years but I will not recommend them to anyone.

My wife brought her Honda in to the Renton service center. She requested a diagnosis on a problem in the morning with a cold start and rough idle. Instead of keeping it overnight to check and diagnose the car in the morning, they immediately created a list a mile long of services needed for the car and called to discuss. They told her she needed a solenoid, new battery, timing belt, spark plugs, rodent protection, valve adjustment, wiper blades, oil change, etc. ($4,000 est.) She didnt ask for any of those, just the problem she came in with. He priced out $800 for a solenoid replacement but didnt explain what that was. Assuming it would fix the cold start, she authorized the repair. That same day, she picked it up and the problem was worse. When she went back to complain, they stated that since she had authorized the repair, they couldnt refund the money. They are con artists, and liars. They took advantage of a woman and have no morals or customer service at all. Greedy and corrupt.

My husband and I have been thoroughly impressed with the customer service and care provided at Gregs Japanese Auto. I brought my car in for an oil change, but it was found my drain plug was not properly tightened at another shop recently and they contacted the owner and had him come look at it. Everything was handled very professionally, and with my car and safety in mind. Jeremy informed me of things to be aware of while driving my car to continue to ensure it is working properly. Definitely recommend!

I was visiting from out of state for my daughters soccer tournament. When we got near the Seattle area the CEL on my 2009 Subaru Forester came on. Not being from the area I found a Subaru dealership close to my hotel. They were booked several days out and when I asked for a recommendation they said Gregs. When I got to the shop Curtis took the time to listen to my issue and understand my time frame. He then explained the process to me of what they would do. They got my car in immediately and got to work. An hour later they knew what needed to be done and gave me some options for other recommended items. They knew I just needed my car working so I could get home and were upfront and honest about what was necessary.A few hours later my car was fixed and I was back with my family. Overall it was a great experience and made a stressful situation a little less stressful.Having previously worked many years in the automotive repair industry Im always extremely cautious about who I trust my car with. After the experience I had today with Curtis and his team, if I lived in the area, I would definitely be taking my car back to Gregs Japanese Auto and would recommend you do the same.

I asked these guys to check out my car before I bought it. They found a couple of issues for me that needed addressing. Even found brakes that needed replacing in the back. The dealership said the back brakes passed their inspection, but Gregs said they were down to 1mm. So, I was able to negotiate some things with the dealership. It really helped out. Customer service was top notch. This past time in, they helped me find out why my check engine light came on. They were not able to fix it, but they equipped me with the knowledge I needed to proceed with the dealership. It ended up being a reprogramming issue with my CPU. They gave me a ride home when I dropped off. They also offered me a ride back upon completion. I had to go to a pediatrician appointment, so I wasnt able to answer when they called same day. I called back in the morning, and zero issue with holding my car overnight. These guys are great. If I need any work done in the future I will come back here.

My car needed a bunch of maintenance done, which I was dreading because of the cost of repairs. I decided to take a chance on Gregs instead of taking it to the Honda dealership (which I normally do). The location was convenient because of the proximity to my home. They also have a courtesy vehicle and were able to take me back home and pick me up when my car was done. Unfortunately, I got a call shortly after dropping off the car, that they found some other things that needed to be replaced/fixed. Their prices definitely seem comparable to the dealership and Curtis was very professional and explained what all needed to be done, etc. Overall, pleased with their service.

The guys at Gregs were great. Brad got my car taken care of same-day when I absolutely needed it done that day. However, they forgot to re-calibrate the tire sensors after rotating my tires, so after driving 3 miles away my low tire light came on, causing a bit of panic. I had to pull over, check all my tires, top off the air, and reset the sensor. Kind of frustrating to have to service your own car right after paying to have it done, but I was grateful I had my car back so quickly, so I guess thats the trade off.

We were informed by Subaru dealership to replace our front brakes immedieately as they were getting very near failure, instead of replacing on the spot at the dealership, we decided to take vehicle to Gregs. I came in for a weird sound, and the guy hits me with a $4000 estimate. Says that I have 2 stuck calipers and the only way to replace them is to take apart the entire wheel assembly for both ends. Like the hub and everything. I know for a fact that its literally two bolts to take the caliper off, so what in the world are they doing taking apart my entire car? Who knows, but I just ended up doing the work myself. Car sounds great now and I still have $3800. Only reason Im giving it 2 stars is because the guy at the counter was kinda funny.

One of the few professional, reliable auto repair facilities in Renton. You will not be disappointed. No grouchy spouse or boozy, dishonest owner to contend with like some shops in our neighborhood. They have no problem working on older vehicles like my 1986 Toyota Pickup. Im hoping they can make the leap to German cars, so hapless owners wont have to deal with the ridiculous prices and crappy repairs at Ken Wrights Auto Pro rip-off disaster.

I brought my 2000 Honda CRV in because of a check engine light. All I knew was that it had something to do with the air intake and that something was misfiring. After charging me nearly $150 to only diagnose what was wrong, they told me the problem was the manifold intake gasket that needed replacing, which would cost another $450. Fine, but I had to wait until my next paycheck. So I bring the car in on Thursday night so that I can pick it back up after work on Friday. On Friday I drive out of the lot and the car sounds great!!! Like driving a whole new vehicle. Except, Im at the gas station on the way home and a man says to me, Hey, your car is leaking antifreeze. I look, and antifreeze is nearly pouring out of the front end of my car. Alarming to say the least. So I get home and realize that not only are they already closed for the day, they are closed for the weekend! Not a big deal, I can wait until Monday. I just took my car in to have them fix whatever it was that happened while my car was with them Thursday and Friday, and he takes 3 minutes and says, Your radiator is cracked. We were working over here but its here that its cracked so I dont know how it happened. Are you kidding me? I dropped my car off with you and got it back with a cracked radiator??? He told me he could write me up a new quote to have it fixed. I immediately started bawling and told him no. Now, I have an empty bank account and a car that I cant drive. Thanks Gregs!

I loved this shop and have been bringing my van and truck for service here, until last time. I will not come back here anymore or recommend anyone. What happened was I had this shop service all brakes, rear and front, for my Odyssey van (in 2013, with ~103K odo) The van is going well until I heard loud metal grinding on the rear wheel. I brought it back to the shop, thinking anything but the brakes. Well the inspection is done and the conclusion was rear pad worn to metal, Id have to replace the pad and the rotor (~130K on odometer). The guy explained to me that the rear pad is smaller than the front ones, which still has 6/10, thus wear out faster. I do not believe it. It could have worn out, but to the metal after only 27K, with no difference in driving condition, with front pad still 6/10? My conclusion is either they did not service the rear brake in 2013, or they had a dirt cheap pad, the former is very likely. Anyway, I am very disappointed at this shop now.

Love Gregs! We have taken our cars here for the past 15 years. Just last month my CRV started sputtering on the 405 and I limped into Gregs on Sunset and asked if they could help me out at the last minute. They fit me in the next day and had my car up and running. Just to find the next day it had the same issue - sputtering on the 405 again. The guys at Gregs took it right in for no charge and went further into the system and found the secondary issue and repaired that problem while keeping us informed the entire time. I love it that they always tell me what they are doing and exactly how much it will cost and there is no upselling or BS. I have never been disappointed or felt taken advantage of with their service. My brother and sister and parents also take their autos to Gregs and are also pleased with the service.
