Makayla was amazing. This place really pampers you. I went in to get my hair dyed and got the royal treatment. I asked why, she said what do you mean this is what we do here! DEFINITELY going back.

Switched hairdressers after six years. Color, tone and cut. Marla took extra time to make sure I got the color and the length of hair that I was getting in California. Very enjoyable experience. Nice shop.

I would give zero stars if there is an option. I never received such a poor customer service anywhere else.I had an appointment with Kayla Starr on January 16th 2021 which I booked 2 weeks earlier as I needed the haircut on that particular weekend. On the day of my appointment, the stylist messaged me saying that she is not feeling well and we need to reschedule. I can totally understand that but unfortunately I am traveling overseas in a few days and really need the haircut that weekend. So I called the salon and left a voicemail asking if there is anyone else that can cut my hair that day as I am on a schedule. I never received a call back so I called them again but they rejected my call. I waited for an hour and called again. Guess what they did? They rejected my call again but still, I left another voicemail asking the same thing hoping they would call me back. After waiting for few more hours, I finally got that they completely ignored my request. Fortunately I was able to get my haircut from a different salon who were able to squeeze me in in the last minute.They shouldve at least answered my call and let me know if nobody is available that day instead of rejecting my calls. I never thought that they would treat their customers in this manner. Very disappointed in their service.

Cierra is the best and is a master with color. She can nail your visions on your color ideas while keeping your hair healthy.

They got me in at a moments notice. The girls listened to what I said, and where I wasnt able to be clear, the instructor was always available and hands on. Staff and students were all wonderfully respectful and polite.

Marla is the best! She is one of the friendliest people I know. She has great ideas for colors and cuts, makeup and the like. She is incredibly fun to talk to. Her salon is fun and her parking lot is big and shes easy to find and hard to forget. I recommend her to anyone.

Two years later and my hair is finally growing out after all the damage from this place. In retrospect, my experience here was like a bad joke. I had specific requests and explained I did not want to put dark dye over my blonde because I will be redying it bright colors, so I didnt want to have to lift the color again. I went a couple times months ahead of my appointment to discuss and was really hopeful as the stylist said she had the product I needed and did it often. We discussed blending my shocking blonde up into my dark brown natural color. We discussed an ombre look and shadow roots. We looked at photos and agreed upon a style. I am from a larger city and before this experience I trusted my stylists completely, so I said to do things however would be easier for her, would look best in her opinion, etc. She mentioned processes by which to do the color, but I didnt know the specific words. At this point the bright color had lifted and I was confident. Well then everything hit the fan. I realized half way through she was putting tiny highlights in (had started in the back) not painting a blended color on the foils. Anyway, still I was hopeful. Then she took out the foils and the absolute shock on my face probably said it all. It looked like a bad baby highlight from the 90s, no blending at all to the straight line on blonde around my head. She immediately went over to another stylist to whisper and came back before even saying anything to me that shell have to put more hilights in. I told her I didnt want to bleach my whole head, I was trying to grow my blonde out. Anyway at this point there was no option and she threw a bunch of bleach on and I was BLONDE. Again, shocking, but I could have pulled it off, except it was a shoddy job. Only the top of my hair was actually bleached through, under had huge chucks on dark hair. Even where it was blonde, it was about 5 different shades with harsh lines. I was visibly upset. It was bad. To the point the other stylist came over and actually tried to tell me some people prefer it like that. The way they were whispering away from me the whole time, they knew she messed up badly. Without saying much else she just shoved the payment in front of me. I was in shock and paid with a tip. I didnt have time to fix it. I had to be at a wedding out of state the next weekend. I ended up talking with the stylist when I got home after trying to get over the shock value (as she called it) and I ended up driving back out the next day. She was kind enough to come in on her day off to fix it. Again we decided on a shadow root and she said to look through pintrest and bring in photos, which I did. In the end she pulled the shadow root down so much it was basically what I had walked in with but a little lighter brown roots. Again she dyed dark brown OVER bleached out hair. It didnt cover evenly because it was a toner. She said it would wash out quickly then I could put color in. Well, it didnt at all. My hair started ripping out along the line where it was previously bleached and all my hair became gummy, stretchy, and literally never dried (this is from over bleaching) and I couldnt brush it without it completely ripping along the same spot. Two years later the damage is growing out. Hilariously I went here because I was in a wedding and was told to have natural hair color. We put it in an updo in the end to hide as much of the discoloration as possible. In the end I went in specifically trying to avoid putting dark dye over bleached hair, but they bleached all my hair and put dark dye back over it. If its a confusing situation, believe me it was and Im still not over it. I never asked for my money back in the end because I never wanted to deal with them again. They lied to my face trying to sell that it looked good when they KNEW it didnt. I wish I had stopped the hilights before she started because that wasnt what I wanted and was doomed to look bad given my starting hair situation. Anyway, if you have easy requests, it seemed to be a fine place. AVOID if you have vivids.

I absolutely love this place! Marla has some amazing workers. Shaye is one of the best hairdressers I ever had and I always have her work magic on my hair. They are a great family business and will make you feel right at home when you walk in. You wont want to go anywhere else. If you want great hair go here!

My friend told the beautician detailed instructions on how she wanted the hair done. Well, it didnt even come close to what we wanted. Very expensive

I came in with a self box-dye disaster. My hair had turned ugly green with splotches of brown. My stylist was able to turn it beautiful dark brown with warm red tones running throughout it without using bleach. Wonderful experience and very nice establishment.

I walked in on Saturday morning (the worst time!) after trying a few other salons. Marla squeezed me in right away for a cut and did a great job! I was really pleased with the result, and didnt even put my ponytail back in! Shes a cool chick, and all of the other ladies getting their hair done by the other stylists were walking out with awesome results as well! The location isnt central, but it doesnt matter. Their work is wonderful and you actually have a place to park!

Here is my story with going to High Maintenance Salon.....2 weeks ago I needed my hair done and everyone was booked because it was before back-to-school-week and the end of summer. I had heard of this place through a co-worker and decided to contact the lady from this place. I called a several times to try and schedule an appointment, but no answer. The lady who runs the salon has her personal cell phone as the number for the salon and so she never answers it when you try to text or call her. Even though this seemed odd to me that a salon wouldnt answer their phone several days in a row, I went to Rapid City and walked in the salon to make an appointment. When I met the lady, she seemed nice enough, and scheduled an appointment for me at 1:00 the following Saturday. I showed up at 1:00 and the had to wait OVER AN HOUR for the lady to even talk to me about my hair, because she was doing two other ladys hair.Then, when she finally was at a stopping point with the other ladys hair, she came over and talked to me. I said I wanted alternating dark brown highlights and light blonde highlights, a very simple request I thought. She refused to do them, saying my hair wouldnt work with that and she didnt want to. She sat there and argued with me about it for 15 minutes until she came to a solution that sounded like what I wanted. She said she would dye my hair dark brown and put blonde highlights in it. So basically what I had asked for, but not exactly the same. I agreed and then asked how much this would cost, and her exact words were Not even $200....she had worked out with my mother, who came in to help me because this lady wouldnt listen to me and made me confused, to have me pay $120 for it, which is already way more than it should cost normally, but an agreement nonetheless.We got to then end, my hair not looking any different than before because she only dyed the bottom of my hair brown and then put a few blonde highlights in my already blonde and brown hair....She asked for $200 when my mom walked outside and because I didnt know she had told my mom $120, I paid her $220, the extra $20 being a tip. I would also like to mention that I had to blow-dry and comb my own hair, because she was busy with other clients. Normally wouldnt be a big deal to me, but considering I had to do her work for her and it cost me $200 for color that only cost her $40 if that, I was ripped off...After we left, my mom called this lady back and asked her why she said shed charge $120 when she asked for $200...the lady had no real answer but agreed to send $70 back to me so Id end up paying $150 for my hair that I didnt even like that much, nor did it look different from my hair beforehand. Its been over 2 weeks now and Ive not received the money, and she wont answer texts from me either.This woman took advantage of me and ripped me off majorly, not to mention that she ripped off the other two ladies at the salon that day, who both gasped when she showed them how much their hair cost, but paid anyway.DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. There are plenty of other salons in this area that have professional hairdressers who will do what youd like and not overcharge you for it, or make you do your own hair for that matter. I suggest Regis or really any hair salon other than this. Needless to say, I will not be going back.
