Rooks barbershop is an excellent place in North East Portland to get your haircut. The staff is friendly and fun to be around. Ive tried multiple barbers at rooks and enjoyed my cuts from each one.

After Modern Man went down I found Mike over at Rooks. Hes a transplant from east coast and is a breath of fresh air. He has cut my hair three times and is always a good communicator as well as a good conversation. Keeps it casual while doing it professional. He deserves good clients...

Ian gave me a great haircut, had a beer while I waited (which was about 30 seconds lol), relaxed vibe inside. Came out with exactly the look I wanted and had a shot of scotch for the road. Casual conversation and good music. Overall a great experience in a chill atmosphere. I will happily recommend this place to all my friends.

My son got his haircut done by Christine this afternoon and he LOVED it. Hes very picky on how he wants his hair and has received bad haircuts every single time (until NOW). We will definitely come back to Rooks again. It was priceless to see that he was finally happy with his haircut. Christine was great and professional. Highly recommend!

This feels like an aloof place. I had to wait despite having an appointment. The barber spent more time talking to his coworkers than me. The quality of the cut was good, but the vibe overall was low effort.

Kenzy is rad. Spends time making sure everything is straight and perfect and I am happy with the cut. Glad I can go somewhere where I wont be forced to conform to the standard Portland side part/high fade/heres some pomade for your hair look; they can do it all! The shop might not look like the classiest joint, but Ive been to classy joints, and the haircuts there suck.

The sign says Walkens Welcome which is funny but for my experience walk-ins late in the day are clearly not welcome. Business brings me walking on Division intermittently. Three different days around 4pm, 2 hours before closing i was told no for a beard trim and asked if i want to book another day. I cannot comment on the actual hair cutting because i havent experienced it. But i imagine it is a typical Portland where customers need to genuflect and demonstrate sufficient humility (and confident favourite color choice) to cross the bridge of death to reach the grail of service. Perhaps the enthusiastic can-do attitude is considered passé but i wont try a 4th time to be considered worthy.

This is place is homey and welcoming. Cady will get you cleaned up and offer recommendations for what might suit you if youre unsure. You should go see them.

Jeremy does superb work. I have walked by this establish many times and laughed at its Christopher Walken billboard that says Walkens welcome, but this was the first time that I entered the room. I was not disappointed. Indeed, I received some of the best treatment Ive ever gotten in the barbershop and a beard trim that makes me look a lot better than I should.

Had a lot of cuts here and other locations but they need to figure out there scheduling because there is no way to get a cut that is longer then 25 min or so. Reason why is because a cut is 30 minutes and they book back to back to back. So if you get lucky and kk one is booked after you then you can get a quality cut but once again today got another cut this time I paid double and asked barber to take his time, george is new so idk if it’s his capabilities or if he was rushed but I got roughly 20 minutes of cut time because I showed up at 1:05For a 1 o clock appointment. So if you need a quality cut definitely book and pay for a cut and a shave of 45 min so that you can get the appropriate time you need for a good haircut. This time I had to go out and immediately call Rudy’s on the same road to book a cut again to finish the haircut I just got at Rooks.Owner just chewed me out. What a jerk! I paid cash by the way!Also 30 min IS NOT the standard time too the owners reply Robert was the haircut and yes I did have an appointment ask the other barbers working. Now I’m going to def going out of my way to share your business ethics as an owner and how you reply to reviews with anyone I ever run into who brings up Rooks, or a barbershop referral in Portland.Oh and too the parents this place is kinda of trashy with cocaine references in the bathroom, Rudy’s however! Was great they spent almost an hour on my haircut AFTER rooks! And it was half the price but I gave them double for actually doing there job correctly. We talked about how they have no preset time and that every haircut is different time required based on the haircut.Go Rudy’s!

If youre not getting your hair cut from barber Mike, you dont know a professional barber. The entire Rooks crew know and love exactly what theyre doing. Grade A cuts.

The staff is always nice and fun. Theyll get your hair cut exactly the way you want it and offer you a drink while you wait. Kenzie is amazing and the only person I will let cut my hair. This is the only place that my boyfriend and i ever go for our barbering.

Rooks is my go-to for cuts. Old school, mom-and-pop brick and mortar shops just dont do it right for me, but Rooks has always had me covered. While their cuts are a little on the spendier side, it is worth it for the experience and results. Go in, grab a beer, get a fresh cut and be on your way.

Worth the cost. I am terrible at planning ahead so I inevitably schedule with anyone at Rooks that has an opening. Ive worked my way through most of them and never had a haircut that wasnt great.

Don’t schedule an appointment with Krystall from this shop. My boyfriend booked days in advance with her and 20 minutes before his appointment, while he was already on his way, she texted him asking to reschedule because she didn’t want to work on her birthday. Could she not have decided this when he scheduled with her? She then proceeded to unprofessionally text him and when he arrived to the shop it turned out she never even showed up that day. I cannot speak for the quality of the shop but I can suggest that you avoid this particular unprofessional stylist, named Krystall.

It looks like they give great haircuts here and I am sad I wasn’t able to get one for my son for his school picture day.You know how these days with good barbers in high demand they make you sign up for an appointment, sometimes days in advance? We were lucky and were able to book (and prepay with tip) for an appointment that should have started on time. I mean for all the hassle you go through to download an app, pick a stylist, show up a little early... (pay $40 for a kids’ haircut) the least they could do is get you in on time and not make you wait 25 minutes.It seems an all too common theme: barbers and stylists think that theirs is the only time that matters. Maybe if they’re habitually running late with clients they could make their appointments a little longer and realize our time has value too?UPDATE:Note that I cant respond to the owners email with a screenshot because there is no email address in the response to send it to and I have no idea who the response is from. The appointment was with Sebastian at 4pm on Saturday.

Ive made two reservations thus and will continue to do so. When I struggle to describe what I want my hair to do, they understand and give me what looks best.

Recently moved to PDX, was dreading the day I had to seek out and find a new barber. Review were all good and had a recommendation from a friend, so I gave it a try.By far the best experience ever. Never mind a first try. Mark listened and actualy oaid attention to what I had to say. Always had issues before with other barbershops and salons. He did an awesome job. Was very attentive to all the idiosyncrasies.Very easy atmosphere, very clean, proper well equipped personel.Definitely returning to Mark in the furture.
