At the end of October I was scheduled for a trip to Maine from North Carolina and with a pre-trip high-lighting that had gone very wrong. With no time to fix it before my trip I did a Google search for non-toxic salons in Maine and I was able to find Clare. I was relieved she would be able to accommodate me the day I arrived, so no lurking around trying to hide the orange streaks in my dark, ash-blond hair. After my highlighting and cut with Clare, I can honestly say that my experience with her was one of the best salon experiences I have ever had. Not only did she very skillfully correct the highlighting, she also nicely blended the grey that I dont want to reject and somehow want to make work. The cut was superb for my long, super-straight and fine hair, and even months later it still looks good. On top of her amazing skills, Clare was very attuned and our conversation was easy and enjoyable. I also learned that Clare is very knowledgeable and authentic in wanting to offer a healthy and green salon experience, which is very important to me. Thank you, Clare, for providing such an excellent experience for me and I look forward to seeing you the next time I am in Maine.

Clare helped me get my hair healthy and now I confidently wear my hair down. She is very educated on safe but effective products. Making appointments is easy peasy and she spends a quality amount of time with her clients. My husband sees her too and he has never felt so comfortable getting his hair cut (he is very sensitive about his hair.) There is always interesting conversation and her space is beautiful (and it overlooks downtown Portland.) She is skilled at bringing out the natural and individual beauty in each person.

Clare is by far the best esthetician I have seen. I received a haircut and bikini wax and have never been treated so well in that environment. I really appreciated her knowledge of the products she was using and how they would benefit each unique client she sees. I got a haircut and facial from Clare. Not only was she super accommodating with my schedule but Clare is sweet, kind, and great at what she does. She gets down to the root of the problem and let’s you know how to fix it. She is also very knowledgeable about all of the products she uses on you and she uses them herself as well!

I have been going to Clare for several years now for my haircuts and coloring. Hands down she is the best. Just recently I got my first facial and I have clearly been missing out! I enjoy that I am the only one there, enjoy the conversation and of course the view. There are no phones ringing and Clare truly listens and wants to understand your wishes and concerns and I ALWAYS walk out happy.My son has been seeing her for a couple of years as well. He is very particular about his hair and she nails his haircuts every time.

I came to visit Clare because after the worlds coldest winter, my skin was a dry, flaky mess! I booked a facial and was beyond pleased. The service was incredibly relaxing and indulgent. She walked me thru each step and explained any and all questions I had. Afterward, she went over my facial care routine and helped me put together one that fed and nourished my dry skin. I still cannot believe the results! Within 2 weeks, the texture of my skin improved drastically and was even glowing, something I had not seen since my 20s! I continue to use the same products and routine she introduced to me and 3 months later, I continue to see more improvements! For once, I had a wonderful experience getting my hair cut. I came in with a vague idea and she made it come to life. Ive had long hair for long as I can remember and went to her for a shorter cut, where she suggested the lob, which I am now obsessed with. Im delighted to have found Clare! Because I havent used petrochemical-based products on my skin or hair in years, my scalp never reacts well when I get it cut at conventional salons that still use strong detergent shampoos. So I was extremely happy to discover Maine Natural Hair & Skin, and really enjoyed having Clare cut and highlight my hair (after a disastrous attempt at a home hair cut, for which she was wonderfully kind and professional and didnt make me feel embarrassed about at all). This was my first time getting a facial and it was a great experience. The place was spacious and relaxing, and Clare was very welcoming. She listened to my concerned and focused on those problem areas. Clare is wonderful! Not only does she know her stuff (and science) when it comes to hair, its really refreshing to know she herself loves to live a natural life. Conversation is always fun and informative, I learn something new everytime I see her! I was a little nervous about cutting and coloring my hair but she really listened to what I wanted. I am so please with how it turned out! Im also not one for styling products but my hair always falls flat. However, the hair porducts she sells are amazing. The hair spray doesnt leave my hair sticky, stiff or crunchy and it allows me to keep beachy waves for 2 days! Would definitely recommend her services.
