Went in for a simple fade today with the only barber available for about two weeks. To be fair, the barber was new and had apprentice next to their name on the online scheduling. The fade line was not straight, and the length on one side was not the same as the other. Another barber had to help during about half of the haircut and it still didnt come out good. I would recommend taking your business elsewhere if your only option to schedule a haircut here is with a new barber.

Jesse has been my go-to-guy since he started with Black Door. Hes so funny and so much fun to be around that it makes short work out of what can typically seem like forever. Id 100% recommend him and everyone else at this shop to anyone looking for a true barber shop experience.

In atmosphere, style, and end result, Black Door is the best shop in Portland.

Black Door is THE spot.My husband has been going to Curran since he was an apprentice. There is a reason why he has been following him for years. His cuts are literally second to none. Curran is the master of his craft. I love when schedules work out & I am able to go with my husband to his appointment. Mainly, so I can watch Curran’s meticulous attention to detail as he transforms hair into a work of art (and then I’m swooning over my husband’s fresh cut).My husband has also seen every other barber in the shop when Curran has been unavailable (yes, he is that booked up). I can vouch that everyone at Black Door is amazing at their craft.These guys are top notch. Big bonus that it’s a super friendly, welcoming atmosphere & parking is easy. No meters like downtown.

Mark paid close attention to everything I said and gave me the best cut Ive ever gotten. The atmosphere in this place is unlike any barbershop I have been to before. I have never been to a Shop as unique as Black Door. Great vibe, cuts are perfect and what a place to chill. As soon as I walked into the shop I was treated as family, and not because my brother works here. Curran has created a outstanding example of what a shop should be. Surrounding himself with hard working and extremely skilled employees. If i was able to I would only get my hair cuts at Black Door but living in Colorado makes that complicated. Honestly best experience I have ever had while getting my hair cut!! All of the barbers at Black Door are extremely skilled but I have to shout out my dude Brian Moreau. His attention to detail and professionalism contribute yet again to Currans ability to maintain a high level of quality in his shop!

Awesome place with so much to look at. The barbers are legit and you can tell they are experts in their craft. Dustin squeezed me last minute in and hooked it up with damn near the best fade I have had. He took his time and I felt comfortable and relaxed.

This place is great! I have been going to see Mark Waller for about a year and a half now. I recently grew my beard longer than I have before and he was able to accomodate and my cut/beard trim was better than I could have ever anticipated!

I live in NH and have driven to see the gents at Blackdoor Barber every 3-6 weeks for close to 8 years now. I have followed Curran from Momentum when it was on Fore street to his shop here and for good reason. All class, expert cuts and a vibe at the shop that showcases the teams camaraderie and passion for what they do.

Great people and environment. If you want a little more style than your typical barber shop you should definitely scope out Black Door.I never felt like Ive had such attention to detail before during a haircut.

Great barber shop! They trimmed my beard and it looked great, everyone else there was getting really good looking haircuts. I highly recommend this shop. To give you a sense of the personally of the shop there is a rockabilly feel and they are upstairs to a sailor Jerry style tattoo shop.

Went today for my first time.Took my 16 year old son.He was nervous because he got a bad cut somewhere else a while back and hasn’t gotten a cut since.Mark was really cool and did an amazing job.My son walked out with a huge smile, and feeling great.We will both be going back.Thank you mark!

Best barber in all of the city, the environment is incredibly comforting and there is always an interesting conversation going on between the employees and patrons. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome, and all barbers will chip in on how your cut is progressing and offer assistance if needed. As I left I was told “see you in a couple months!” And after today’s experience I will most definitely be a regular patron.

I have had many barbers in my life. From my time in the Marines to moving back home. Having a squared away cut is a must! I have found that at Black Door. Granted it’s not as high and tight anymore but they have assisted me in finding the right cut that looks good on my dome. I have had nothing but a professional experience and solid customer service. It’s clean and has a comfortable chill feel to the shop. It’s nice to be treated with respect and to know your time in the chair, is your time in the chair. Bravo gents. Ive been getting my hair cut by Curran and Jon for close to a year now. I have never had a better experience in a barbershop. Such a welcoming and friendly environment. Even my first time here, I felt like I was treated as a friend and not just as a customer. The attention detail is astounding, no long dogs left on your head, the cleanest fades around, and styling so good youll wish you could have your hair styled by them every morning. Overall a truly amazing experience. The best dudes and barbers around.

Curran and Jon’s incredible popularity has meant it’s harder for me to nab a slot any old time, but there’s a reason - the experience and result are unmatched. The amount of compliments per haircut I received after starting with Curran a few years back straight up skyrocketed and I’ve never looked back.

Jonny has been cutting my hair for years now... I followed him to black door because I wouldnt let anyone else cut my hair (except Curran). He also cuts my 7 yr old son and my dad and does the occasional fade or design for my wife! These guys are the best, couldnt recommend a better group of people or business in Portland!

These guys know how to cut; Mark is the man. They take a lot of time and care on the haircut, so it can run about an hour per cut. This is definitely not a negative, however because the cut is always superb. Beer and water while you get a cut as well.
