Maybe you could clean up some of the trash around your business so you would have something to be proud of?
I had to go back for the same problem multiple times. Each time was a hassle with Kim, as he would beat around the bush by making small talk. The issue stemmed from a poorly repaired engine mount/torques. Kim tried to deny my parts werent under warranty immediately, but i showed the papers and he repaired my engine mount.I gave it some time, but the issue was still there. After multiple visits to kim, i finally went to a certified honda repair shop and they diagnosed the SAME parts kim had fixed twice. Once the honda repairs finished my car, the issue was fully resolved. I filed a complaint against kim with the BBB and kim threatened me. How is this guy still in business? I think he reads people and tries to pick who he can swindle. In the end he put me back 2k and tried to give me an attitude.
Had them replace the radiator on our 2004 Subaru, fairly easy job and they quoted such a great price for the job compared to every other shop I called. One shop quoted twice the cost! These guys did a great job and had the car in working order in no time. They also checked to make sure the engine hadn’t overheated and didn’t try to sell us parts we didn’t need. Service and customer interaction was excellent. Don’t be fooled by the area or size of the shop! These guys are absolute professionals! Don’t take your car anywhere else!
I had a very poor experience with GearHeads MotorWorks. I was highly referred to Kim from a friend, however it was a bit of a disaster from the start. Kim failed to contact me with the quote and I had to call several times to get it. Once I received it, I went to drop my car off and he wasnt at the shop. He then proceeded to not call or message me for several days and I had to call him several times to finally get a hold of him. He told me the car would be done the following Monday, however on Monday I never heard from him. On Thursday I called again and he said hed call me back and never did, so Friday I went to the shop and he wasnt there. By Monday I threatened to call the police and he finally got back to me. He did no work on my car and did not communicate at all on what was happening. During this time he had a personal issue and was going on and on about it. He got me confused with another customer and by the end I was just begging to get my vehicle back that he had for two weeks without any work or communication to me. While I understand Kim was going through some personal issues, this situation was unprofessional and not acceptable. Would not recommend.
Hired Kim to swap the engine in my 76 Chevrolet pickup. Took him 7 weeks. He told me two weeks before he finished that the verbal labor quote he had given me at the beginning was still valid. Then charged me $1200.00 more. He became belligerent and threatening when I questioned the bill. The work was sloppy and incomplete when I finally received my truck. Spent over $1000.00 to have it finished. I expect Kim to call this a fake review and/or call me crazy. Update 12/5/2019: Kim failed to appear in small claims court. Judge awarded me $1462.00 judgment.
Very impressed with my recent experience at GearHeads. My 01 Tacoma was about 30k overdue for changing the timing belt, thermostat, and water pump. Not an easy job. Im brand new to Portland and had no idea where to take it to get this critical work done. I called Kim @Gearheads not knowing what to expect. He gave me a very reasonable quote over the phone within minutes and got my truck in to start the work super quick.Once Kim and Bert got under the hood they found a few other things that could need replacing (normal for a truck with 210k miles) but called me to explain and asked what I wanted to do about them. I was impressed by his integrity, I had just met him but I felt as though a good friend was working on my truck, its a great feeling.I appreciate Kim taking the time to sit with me and explain all the work he did on the truck. The office is comfortable and he takes time to answer any and all questions. He really knows what hes talking about and has the heart of a teacher. He didnt push any unnecessary service on me but pointed out a few things to look out for down the road.I highly recommend taking your vehicle here. Great prices, honest, and super friendly mechanics with a quick turn around rate. Thanks Kim and Bert!
Kim is a top notch guy! Obviously he does amazing work in his own field, and clearly hes a think outside the box kind of guy. He came to our store, All In One Mobility, in hopes of finding a solution for one of his clients. When our solution didnt work out, he returned our product in better condition than when he took it! Its called INTEGRITY folks, and its hard to find these days but hes got it covered!
Everything was laid out for me and made simple. No hidden costs or unneeded repairs. But the best part was that Kim and Bert were as excited about working on my classic Nova as I was about having it fixed. The comprehensive inspection was thorough and came with photos of everything listed as a needed repair. It allowed me to make decisions on my next upgrade in a clear and linear manner. Thanks guys for the hard work. Ill be returning for more help with the car!!!!
Kim and his mechanics are the best. Ive taken my 86 trans am in for some real headaches and they always get it done quickly, expertly, and for a really fair price. If i could give 10 stars i would. thanks gearheads!
Gearheads and Kim are great to work with. Always happy to talk through any automotive issues you have and very communicative about any problems found. I highly recommend going here to the point that I travel from Vancouver to get work done.
These guys are very reliable and outstanding in their services. I had them do some check ups on my engine today and they were so awesome.
I had a great experience with Kim and the GearHeads Gang when getting a 2000 Toyota Solara inspected before buying. They went through it with a fine tooth comb and gave me a priority of what needed to be fixed for safety, what could wait, and the cost of each item. They even recommended picking up some parts at a wrecking yard as opposed to buying them new. Kim went to the trouble of explaining to the Seller about how some codes were not yet recognized by the computer, so we went for a drive to make sure the codes were all OK.These guys know their stuff and even though I came from a different city to buy the car (won’t be a regular customer), they still treated me with honesty and respect. Highly Recommended - These guys are a class act and I’ll be back if at GearHeads if I buy again in Portland.
I found gearheads and Kim a while back when my wife’s dodge nitro had a transmission issue. I reached out to 4 places for quotes an times for them to check it out. Kim was the ONLY one who got back with a quote and got me in asap an fixed up our ride. Since then, I have him do all my work on both cars an recommend anyone whos having issues to use him. Pure Standup guy for sure!
I have had nothing but great experiences with Kim and burt, they always try to find the absolute cheapest most efficient way of fixing their customers cars and are always extremely easy going and courteous. They are my first choice for any mechanical work I need done and if you are in need of any help with your car whether small repair or big project build you cannot find more competent and pleasant people to trust with your vehicle. Thanks for yalls help over the past 6 years. I look forward to the next 6.-Gardner Johnson1990 TOYOTA MR2 GT
I love hanging out with the guys over at Gearheads Motorworks. I started taking my 95 Toyota Tacoma here two years back and I havent been to another mechanic since. These guys have a vast breadth of knowledge on all makes and models and will do any service needed weather you need a simple oil change or an entire engine rebuild, these guys will do it right. Ive had them take on many tough repairs on my truck including replacing the break booster, upgrading the suspension system and axles, replacing the transmission, straightening out a crooked piece of the frame and many other small maintenance jobs both cosmetic and mechanical and its all done right the first time with solid skill and professionalism. They often build and custom paint cars and trucks from the ground up as well. If cars and trucks arent enough, they also service motorcycles, mopeds, motorized scooters and pocket bikes.Their front office is very nice and filled with custom-made motor bikes theyve built and refurbished. From the moment you get on the phone with Kim, the owner, you get the best personable friendly treatment you can only find from a locally owned two-man business. Ive had some fantastic conversations with these guys about engines and the world. They always get me good deals on parts and they never fix something without educating you on the problem and getting your permission first. Good honest local mechanics that love making engines run smooth.
This is a great place for all your small engine needs! The owner is an outstanding honest guy and he will help you any way he can.
Just picked up my vehicle yesterday after taking it to Gearheads for some routine maintenance. Oil change, new spark plugs, adjusted timing, adjusted the carburetor fuel/air mixture, choke setting and idle speed. They did a great job [just like they did on my first visit to this shop] ... Easy to work with, they know what theyre doing and my vehicle now runs and idles very smoothly and has much more oomph thant when I took it in to them. Thank you, Kim and Bert!!!
I had a wonderful experience with gearheads, I went to 2 different shops that lied to me about what was wrong with my car before I find them. Kim is very nice and honest, he told me what was really wrong and explained everything to me plus it was a 1000 cheaper then the other. I will only go to Kim for now on..
I love this place man.
Awesome guys totally respectful and great work Ill be back for future business with them they go above and beyond thank you:)
Kim is a great guy! Hes honest, smart, and demands that his shop provides the best service.
There is a lot of great things to say so I sum it up like a job well done thanks
Kim and his team made sure I understood what was going wrong with my car and how to fix it. They didnt make me feel ignorant for knowing NOTHING about cars, and thats why theyre the best.
The guys down at gearheads have been so helpful with all my vehicles. Today they helped me make a decision buying a used car with their prepurchase inspection, They found things that I never wouldve imagined to check before buying a car.By far gearheads motor Works is the best shop Ive ever been to, customer service is above and beyond any shop around.
After 6 weeks (and four appts) of terrible service from a DIFFERENT East Portland repair shop I had the good fortune to break down right across the street from Kim @ Gearheads. Kim was willing to work me into his schedule the very next morning (as it was already closing time when I met him). He listened attentively to what I described as my symptoms and my albeit amateur diagnosis and had me on the road in two hours at a VERY reasonable expense. The PRIOR repair shop spent all THEIR energy trying to prove that I was wrong (so that they could be right) and they never even got close to a correct diagnosis OR repair. I have a few other elective automotive repairs upcoming and I will absolutely have Gearheads perform the work. BTW, they have a very pleasant demeanor and I was able to watch some Netflix in their lobby while I waited ... They were done before the movie was over!!! Thank you Kim and your young, friendly assistant for a job well done and for your professional and thorough approach.
Where do I begin? I brought my 1969 Cadillac To Gearheads change 2 brake lines and bleed brakes, I dropped my vehicle off on a Thursaday evening with the owner Kim I was told I would have my car back by Tuesday, I never received a call so I went to the shop on Wednesday almost a week later, and the owner Kim was on his ear piece phone apologizing what seemed to be another customer, he looked very stressed, when I asked whats going on with my car, he started making tons of excuses, this is a old car its hard to work on and many other excuses, he the proceeded to tell me he tried to pump my brakes for 3 hours! 3 hours ! I said Kim said yes and your brakes do not work you bill is $316 dollars, oh yea and your master cylinder is out. That will cost quite a bit more. He then told me people spend around $2000 dollars to repair their brakes at his shop. And still telling me I have a old car in between his conversations with other customers on his ear piece phone that he constantly is on. So at this point I wanted my brakes fixed, and I was upset he spent 3 plus hours pumping brakes, and he didnt have enough sense to realize the master cylinder was bad after the first 1/2 hour of pumping brakes. When I asked him this, he started getting angry and proceeded to brag about his mechanic skills, that he was a elite mechanic and Im lucky to have him working on my car. At this s point I asked him and his mechanic Burt to please fix my brakes and give me back my car, the minute I stood up to him he reversed my credit card transaction and said he will have not accept cash from me cause he was worried I would dispute my charges, I couldnt believe this was happening, I only wanted my brakes fixed, now almost 2 weeks have passed I still dont have my car and Im out several hundred dollars, I even paid him in advance for parts and he still did not get my brakes going, on the second week,mi demanded my car back, I was comfronted by one of his friends that hangs out at his shop, his name is Mike,, he pulled off his shirt and threatened to fight me screaming and yelling, I had to call the police, then the owner got in my face and called me profoune names, he also called my wife names, the cops arrived and spoke withKim and the car was released. Kim and his crew which I was told are mostly his friends not his employees are rude and do not have any customer service skill, the minute there is a problem they get aggressive call profoune names, threaten to fight, I am reporting them to better business. bureau today. This is the worse experience I have ever had.I am out hundreds of dollars and nothing fixed, - So if you do not mind excuses, your car held hostage for weeks, even physically threatened and insulted, take your car to Gearheads
Terrible customer service and very shotty work. I wouldnt let these guys watch my grass grow.
Got me back in motion
Great, informative service
