And when he found out what was going on in my personal life he showed compassion and put me into a position to do something extra nice for my daughter. I caught them two times lying about prices. Like they would tell me the vehicle is ready for pick up and the price. But when I arrived they had raised the price 300 and said “oh that was our old pricing model.” I mean is that ridiculous or what?I gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. They quoted 1800 and put it on paper. Then when the work began they told me it was now 2100. I asked what happened to the $1800 price? He says “ohhhhh ya that’s right 1800”They were repairing a catalytic converter which had been damaged in an attempted theft.Then this was the last straw: I told them I was going to keep the broken cat converter. He tells me “oh we can’t let you do that”I asked what he was going to do with it.“Oh we’re gonna sell it for scrap “That’s right- they tried to keep my auto parts and sell them for scrap. Do yourself a favor and find another shop. John and Alan are the guys running this shop and they shouldn’t be trusted

I took a recently purchased used commuter car here for a used car inspection. They found a few things that required immediate service and were able to complete repairs in the same day. They seemed to do a good job and were able to waive labor on the A/C since the issue required more service than their initial inspection required. A separate mechanic working on the same vehicle 2 weeks later didnt see any issues with what they had worked on save for a little play in one of the wheel bearings they replaced. I took it back and they double-checked the bearings for free and cleaned the speed sensor just in case. I thought the guy running operations was friendly, explained the repairs adequately before they were made, and provided good service at a reasonable price.

Dane Motors provided me the best experience I’ve ever had with an auto shop. I’ve been to auto shops from San Diego, CA to Portland, OR and they are by far the best! It’s clearly a family run business and they are honest & transparent. The best customer service as well!

Everyone at Dane has always been extremely friendly and honest. They are thorough with their diagnoses and have not ever tried to upsell on repairs that arent necessary. The prices are extremely fair and Al has always taken the stress and unsureness out of vehicle repairs.

If you’re on the fence about this place, just go. John was so helpful, knowledgeable, and personable it made the whole experience a ten out of ten for me. I did my homework and called around to see what the going price for all the work My truck needed. He was more than fair. If you want quality work, an awesome price, and personality this is your new mechanic!! He also mentioned he had loaner cars available, but I didn’t need one.

An employee kept taking his mask most of the way off, exposing his nose and mouth, while he was talking to me, close quarters indoors. And the mask had a vent, so even if he had worn it, it would not have protected others from him if he were infectious. I tried to talk to him about it in a calm, non-accusatory way, and he was not interested in discussing the matter. Never coming back here.

I live right near here, so when I found out Impact Auto had closed I figured I was in for a long search for a new mechanic. Not so! John has been great to work with. Knowledgeable, quick turn around and an honest guy. My car was going to cost more to fix than it was worth. He mentioned he could get it going again for fairly cheap and offered to buy it from me. What?! The easiest interaction Ive ever had with a car. These guys are fantastic. Thanks John!

Good experiences here, first as Impact Automotive and now as Dane Motors. Al was very friendly and kept me updated on repairs, and everything was completed on time and on budget. Nice to have a local shop near my work. Recommended.

They overcharge when they can. Got a battery / starter replaced for $200 more than what was subsequently quoted at other auto repairs. They also were very insistent I fix all four control arms on the car even though they werent all in need of repair. Took the car to another place after getting the battery / starter replaced and that other place quoted me a much cheaper price. Basically -- get a second opinion on anything you get done here before you give them confirmation to do it.

When I moved to Portland in June of 2018 I was happy to find a friendly, experienced and decently priced mechanic at this location when it was known as Impact Auto. I was bummed when they left but I gave Dane Motors a try. I brought my 2006 Acura TL for a repair and John and his team were very friendly and fast. I am pleased with my visit and look forward to many more great experiences at Danes Motors.

I broke down near these guys and had my van towed here in a pinch. They told me my rear differential had failed and would cost $2200 to replace. I had it towed to another place for a second opinion and they immediately found and solved the problem: just a loose caliper bolt that had fallen out and jammed my wheel. I don’t know how on earth these guys could have missed that. So if you want to overpay by $2000, by all means this is your spot. I don’t know if they’re dishonest and predatory or just plain incompetent but I dodged a bullet by taking my vehicle somewhere else.

If you want it done correctly, just go tell John you need it done.

John went above and beyond to fix my flat tire, with no charge. Happy to have a great auto mechanic right in the neighborhood!
