I got their Groupon for the oil changes, they are by far the cheapest but after a year I am having a hard time trusting them. When I first went in my Airbag light came on when I picked it up, I showed them and they said we dont touch that, they tried to diagnose it, not cuz it happened on their watch, but because I had a freebie on my groupon. They couldnt figure it out and I paid $50 to have it diagnosed elsewhere- basically it isnt worth investigating further so still broken- it is an old vehicle so Maybe it was a coincidence?I reluctantly came back and on my 4th & last Oil Change there was oil on the door, seat, and shift lever. Also I noticed a metal ring had fallen off my ignition housing and been placed on the steering column adjust lever (see pictures). I showed them and first response is- we dont touch that. They asked around and the technician didnt remember. The ignition ring wasnt a big deal but that they wouldnt admit to it makes me think they either intentionally or delinquently mess with the cars- or maybe just certain customers. The savings isnt worth wondering what else they dont touch :(If you do go there, I suggest you wait- It seems like the sketchy stuff happened when I let them know I was going to go on an errands.

Meh. I paid 45 bucks for a basic oil change, and asked for a tire rotation over the phone. When I got there they said we will rotate them if we think it needs it so I had to insist. As a family, we have been using honest 1 on 82nd for years and usually receive good service, this service was mediocre, and they suggested fixes for the car, but didnt notice severely warped rotors when rotating the tires, probably because it was a lower cost service than what they suggested. I guess its better than Jiffy Lube.

Wish I could give this place zero stars… So demeaning and unprofessional. They called me and told me my car was fixed and ready to pickup, and I went and paid the hefty 1k for a fuel pump repair. After paying, the manager tossed the key on the counter and didn’t let us know we were good to go. I went to start my car- and it wouldn’t start. We were told it just needed a jump… so they tried to jump it. Didn’t start. We were confused, because it seemed like they didn’t perform any repairs or services… after happily accepting the thousand dollar payment… After talking down to us and laughing at us questioning what the issue is (we are two females) they decide it’s a faulty part. After a lot of convincing, the manager hastily agrees to refund the money until they actually perform the repair.Horrible service. Horrible quality. So disrespectful… Do yourself a huge favor and take your vehicle elsewhere!

Horrible experience with Honest 1 right from oil change, when they didnt fill coolant, washer fluid or tires to misdiagnosis of check engine light, to being treated with disrespect and car not being prioritized even though they made the mistakes. They tried to charge me $145 twice for check engine light diagnostic even though it was their mistake. I have lost trust and respect. I do not recommend.

I went just a couple days ago for a “100 point Inspection” and today I realized that 2 lug nuts weren’t there (from different tires). So I went back to the place and the manager said that they don’t take off the tires for the inspection. The weirdest thing it’s that in the “100 point inspection” they don’t check if the lug nuts are tight.I will never go back.

Took my older Ford in for a power steering repair and was told it was nearly impossible to find the part needed and that it was selling for about $1700. I paid $160 for an inspection but was never told the codes that the car ran (although I called several times to follow up). Several times they told me they would give me a call to update me but never did.Ended up finding the part myself on eBay for $125 and repaired the vehicle in an hour with the help of a friend.

Ive been going there for several years and they are always very truthful and honest about the problems or lack thereof. I went in for an oil change they notified me of two things wrong with my car that I knew were wrong. But they did not try and say that anything else was wrong with it. Its not the kind of auto shop that tells you you need your motor Replaced and hands you a big Bill and has done nothing. I knew something was wrong with my car so I took it to five auto shops one told me I needed a new computer the other said I needed an entire new motor one said it was my transmission. And sad to say but being a woman they definitely do try and take advantage of me. Lucky for me I have mechanic friends they checked it out and said exactly what honest one said whats wrong with my car. If I had all three things done to my car. Honest-1 it would be less than $400. Much cheaper than a new computer or new motor. Theyre always very friendly and fast I was there less than a half an hour in and out love the place

Truly incredible service and passion for customer happiness. I worked with Robert and Jay and thoroughly recommend them. In times of COVID income is hard and my 10 year trusted dealer said there was $1100 bucks of urgent repairs. My friend said I should just get a quote from Honest-1 that he uses. I did. They physically showed me what was claimed to be wrong and there was nothing wrong. What needed to be fixed was fixed and oh my, saved me $700 bucks. Super grateful. Go use this shop specifically, Robert and Jay. They really do care, I overhead them speaking and all I can say is that honesty and doing a great job is their prime motive. Truly floored and spreading the word so that they get business in these challenging times.

Jason took amazing care of me! My partner has used Honest-1 before for an oil change and loved it, so they were my first call when an out side light (which I assumed was just burned out and Id be able to replace easily myself) had actually broken internally and slightly melted the socket and turned it into a Whole Thing. Jason had me come by for a diagnostic, cautioned over the phone that it might require a scheduled return visit depending on how melted, but managed to sqeeze me in right then and there and even threw in a new bulb on the other side just in case it was soon behind. Overall stellar service, and Ill be returning for my next oil change!

I brought my car in to have the shocks and struts replaced which went fine I guess. Maybe a little overpriced. However the trouble came when within the next week my car started making this thumping noise. At first it was quiet and it would come and go. Before long it became this very loud Thump every time the wheel turned so I brought it back in to honest-1. They looked at it for maybe 15 minutes and said it was definitely the transmission. It needed to be replaced. They could make it happen for 1400. This was very strange and it stressed me out immensely so I took it into a different mechanic. Imagine that, it wasn’t the transmission at all. Honest-1 just didn’t screw my tire on all the way and it has almost snapped off. So I guess thank you for leading me to my new and much friendlier mechanic Honest-1 Stark!

I would recommend this shop to anyone in a heartbeat. My Ford Focus overheated on my way home from work. White smoke was pouring out of the hood. It caught me completely off-guard.Honest 1 was the only shop out of the four that I called that could accept the tow the same day I called them. They fit me into what I imagine was an already tight schedule, while the other shops told me I would have to wait up to two weeks for them to see my car. While I totally understand thats not the other shops fault (other people have dire car problems too!), I desperately need my car to get to work because public transit does not run to my jobs location during my shift hours and I could not wait that long to have it seen. They immediately found three different problems with my car. A major coolent leak, a bad battery, and an oil change (that one I was expecting). They set to work on my car, fixed everything so they could make sure the head gasket was okay. They flat-out told me they wouldnt release the car without making sure it was completely safe to drive which was incredibly reassuring. And when they fixed the first coolent leak, they found *two more* leaks.I owe these guys for saving my car, and when they found the extra leaks and noticed parts of my engine needed to be cleaned they did it *no cost*. They saved me close to $200 in expenses on the extra leaks alone.Plus, I know everything I was charged for was reasonably priced and everything they found was legit. If them offering free labor for a chunk of the repairs wasnt enough to trust them, they had the seal of approval from my family. My sister has worked with cars for over 16 years, everything from mechanical to billing. She asked to see the quote and description of labor when I wasnt able to explain what the shop was doing to her satisfaction (my total knowledge of cars comes to about the steering wheel makes it turn? so when experts ask me about thermostat casings I simply do not have an answer, hah). She and the other car-savvy people of my family (including her husband who re-built an entire car from the ground up, and my father who has helped show exotic cars for most of his life) looked over the quote and assured me all the labor was legitimate, the costs were appropriate, and they were doing me a huge service. As a bonus, they are AAA approved and it was *so easy* to get the tow and get them my information right away for repairs. If you go here you are supporting a local shop (Ive driven by it my entire life) with an amazingly attentive staff (always patiently answering any questions and explaining in laymans terms whats going on without a hint of judgement) and skilled mechanics that will fix your car and ensure it is tested again and again for safety before giving it back.

UPDATE:The employee that lacked the professionalism no longer works here. I went in again because I still want to support local businesses and they listened to what happened and reduced the cost of what I needed to have done this second time. They were very nice and helpful.Thank you!!The initial experience seemed fine, but there were some red flags from the beginning.First, they did call me to pick up my car after running a diagnostic, a half hour before they closed and I went directly there. I showed up right at 5 (their closing time) and they were flustered that I was so “late.”Secondly, when I picked up my car, they informed me that I needed to go to a Toyota dealership as they were the only ones who had the specific tool to do the repair necessary for my Prius. They informed me I could use the report they gave me (and had paid $160) with the dealership when I brought my car in. I understood what needed to be done per their diagnosis and took my vehicle to broadway Toyota. This is where things went FAR south. The dealership did not know why Honest-1 said I could use their diagnostic report as they never allow that to happen. Furthermore, when they ran the diagnostic report, the found that the main issue was that there was one misplaced fuse and one missing fuse. I asked them if they needed “the special Toyota tool” to see that the fuse was in the incorrect location and they said no. They should have been able to see this from the get go.Lastly, I tried to contact Honest-1 and get some information about why this was diagnosed so incorrectly and they were incredibly short and rude on the phone with me. They answered and asked what I could do for them and then when I began telling them, the person cut me off and put me on hold because they “were helping intake another customer” which I was surprised about as they had not prefaced the call in that regard. I was transferred to someone else and they insisted they could not find my file and eventually hung up on me.I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. I always try to support my local shops and was extremely put off by this businesses behavior.

FOUR HUNDRED AND NINETY FIVE DOLLARS TO REPLACE A DEAD BATTERY! After I said I couldnt afford that Scott told me to get my car off their property immediately even though they charged me the $125. My brakes had been squeaking for a bit so I dropped my car off here to have them replaced. At 4pm they called me to tell me that my brakes were fine- that they still had 6-8mm left on them and they didn’t need to be replaced at this time. They even tested out the brakes and told me the squeaking was likely due to dust or cheap pads from the previous repair shop. I ended up having my tires rotated and picked up my car the next day- my bill was less than $30 and the brake inspection was free!I appreciated so much, how honest the shop was with me. Condescending, misleading, rude - especially Robert. We brought our car in with several dash board lights, intending to get the “Free engine check light scan” prominently advertised on the website. We live in the neighborhood, so this was convenient as well. The repair bill included a $120 “diagnostic charge” for the “Free engine check scan”. When we challenged this (which is in size 6 font on the website), we were told “Some shops have a free scan - we don’t do that.” Further, they charged more than twice the cost for the part (Brake light switch) than was readily available on-line.15 miles down the road - yup - two dash lights came back on. On the subsequent phone call (By my wife) and my return to the shop we found Robert condescending and patronizing in his explanations. He started off his introduction to me by saying, “I was expecting a woman, who are you?”He was abrupt and defensive. Robert even wags his head while giving you a sing-song explanation of your vehicle diagnosis. Ugh.Ultimately they completed the repair by re-setting the sensor. Keith came to me as I was leaving and apologized for not completing the job yesterday. Even shook my hand. He was courteous and professional. But what an awful experience on the whole.

I waited a while to write this review, because I wanted to be sure my gut feeling was right. I brought my Jeep Cherokee in over the summer for some knocking sounds in my suspension. I ended up getting control arms, some other bushings and a wheel bearing. Drove away and the knocking sound was immediately happening again. I sighed and just went home, as I didnt have another day to leave my vehicle there and figured Id go home and look at things and compare to the invoice and see if everything was fixed and they just didnt know what the sound actually was. Everything looked right, so I didnt bother going back. I just had my Jeep in to another mechanic today and he noticed the control arm bushings were cracked. He said nothing to worry about really, its still ok to drive it but its weird that theres new control arms, and old bushings. Why would they not replace the bushings when replacing control arms? Makes no sense.

Great service! Worth every penny. Have spent a lot of money here, I come here when warranty wont cover costs at dealership. The guys at the counter can be a little harsh in the way they deal with customers, but these guys are called Honest One not Upselling and Sugar Coating. The building is a little outdated, and theres not an area for kids to wait. I would not plan on hanging out in the office if possible. But by all means, this is some superior service.

Absolutely the best auto-care center in all of Portland. We had to move from Portland to West Linn recently, but still drive clear up to these guys - even just for an oil change. Pete is the best. Always available with sound advise. Tells us all our options and never pressures us into any repair. Weve had some major repairs and the service is unbeatable. Its hard to find an auto shop you have 100% trust in (one where they care about you and your needs and not just making money), but this is the place. We bring both our cars here and well never go anywhere else!

I ONLY go to Honest A-1 on Stark! They have been my mechanic since I moved to Oregon 4 years ago. Pete and the rest of the guys go out of their way to do the best work on my car, give Excellent Customer Service, suggestions, and deals. Pete personally not only deals with me as a customer, but also as a friend. I have been to Honest A-1 for anything from major engine trouble, to oil changes, to new tires. They are QUICK, friendly, and they are HONEST. Plus they do have free sodas and free internet while you wait. Honest A-1 has built trust with me and I never have felt taken advantage of. Every time I have been there, the actual cost was far less than I planned on paying. I am Honored to give them this Excellent review!~ Angie, Portland Oregon

Ive been a customer for over 9years. In the last 2 years Ive seen this place seriously drop in quality and customer service. I wont be back ever. Everything from over charging me for a cooling system repair that they had to fix again in less than 8months to a suspension repair that is still giving me problems. The last issue that happened a couple of weeks ago, Im not so sure wasnt caused by The faulty repairs on the cooling system. A n d they charged me to look at my car. Plus a healthy dose of bad attitude and rudeness. No thank you. This place got the last dollar they will ever see from me. BEWARE

It was the worst experience Ive ever had, they told me a price over the phone then raised it when I brought my car in for a coolant leak. They disconnected my battery and wiped my car memory, they got grease on the interior, they changed my oil and charged me when I just had it done and didnt need it, without asking me. They didnt fix the leak and I had to bring it in twice afterwards and they made up excuses and tried to make it seem like it was my fault. Take my advice dont take your vehicle here for auto repair.

Talk about an honest mechanic shop. I have always been Leary on places that have the name honest in them but this place for sure will take care of you. If you go to the stark location Scotty is the best. They talk to you like you are a person, dont lecture you on neglect and make sure you understand the importance or relevance of the care needed in your car. You dont need a mechanics degree to understand what they are explaining. Might be a little more pricey than some locations but this experience is you get what you pay for. I would rather pay $10 more to KNOW and feel confident I am being taken care of in the right way. From simple as oil change to struts and transmissions. And if they cant do the work they have a great partnership with other business referrals!

BEWARE THESE ARE DISHONEST PEOPLE - when I took my 2010 model car to Honest 1 for an oil change on May 6th 2014 it was running great. When I picked it up from getting the oil changed Scott at Honest 1 said that I had a coolant leak and that the coolant fluid was dangerously low so they had to refill it. He then tried to pressure me in to having them flush my car and fix the leak. My intuition, his pressuring demeanor and the fact that my car was running perfectly when I brought it in told me to not let them do anything more with my car. I resisted the pressure, paid for the oil change, drove a mile home and then took my car to a certified mechanic at a different shop the next morning to get the leak checked out.The certified mechanic found that the spring loaded hose clamp holding the water bypass hose to the engine had been purposely moved to create a slow steady leak of coolant fluid. Eventually with driving, pressure and the relocated clamp, the hose would have blown and all the coolant would have leaked out of my car, causing serious damage and potentially an accident . The certified mechanic that found the relocated clamp is absolutely certain this was done on purpose - the air induct had to be disconnected for the Honest 1 tech to even be able to access the clamp - and spring loaded clamps dont move by themselves. I got photos of the clamp, hose, and clamp indentations on the hose.I also have a certified mechanic who will confirm that the only way that the spring loaded clamp could have moved is by human hand. The certified mechanic also showed me my cars oil dipstick and said there is NO WAY that my oil was changed the day before, it was far too black - and my coolant fluids had NOT been replaced/refilled by Honest 1 - special coolant from the dealership is still in my car, so they could not have filled the coolant fluids as they stated. I took photos of the dirty oil on the dipstick. My photos and the mechanics photos and statement are proof that the service I paid Honest 1 for was NOT performed on my vehicle.Honest 1 spent the time they were supposed to be changing my oil taking off the air induct and moving the hose clamp to create a coolant leak so they could charge me for expensive repair services.DO NOT take your car to Honest 1 unless you have to, and if you do and its running fine when you go in and has a COOLANT LEAK when you pick it up get yourself to a good mechanic right away before the water bypass hose fails.Give your mechanic the information in this post - have your mechanic check the hose clamps, especially the ones that are not readily visible, like the water bypass hose clamp. Its nice and hidden so you wouldnt see that its been moved an inch to cause a leak.I have photo documentation and a certified, local, long experienced mechanic on my side who really urged me to report this horrible business practice. The mechanic who found the moved clamp is willing to talk with the BBB, Honest 1 and anyone else necessary to get my money refunded and to try to stop Honest 1 from doing this to other people. Thank goodness I got to the right person and got the problem properly diagnosed. Lesson learned. Always trust your instincts. I had a very strong feeling that they had done something bad and dishonest, I didnt like the way they tried to pressure me, - and I was right. I am going to follow this through with the better business bureau complaint I have filed. With all the documentation, pictures and a certified mechanic in my corner I will get my money back.

A couple months ago I took an 07 Jeep Compass in to have the check engine light diagnosed at the 20th and Stark location in SE Potland. They pulled the code and determined the cause for the indicator was the catalytic converter was below threshold on bank one and recommended we replaced the cat along with both oxygen sensors with factory Jeep parts. I agreed with the diagnostics report because I had scanned it myself before I brought it in to the shop. After the repair the check engine light was still on. They informed me that I had to run it through very particular drive cycles in order to pass the monitors (self tests the vehicles computer performs while being driven) in order for the check engine light to turn off. We complied with all the driving conditions for approx a month and the light never went out. I brought the car back to the same location to inquire why the light remained on and to see if it were a 3 year 36k mile warranty issue. The manager Jason told me he would have one of the technicians figure it out. He told me there was a new code present. This time it was an intake manifold runner control valve code and I now owed him another $125 diagnostic fee for figuring it out. First off i never agreed to have to have it diagnosed the second time. I brought it in to see if the same code was present to determine if it were a warranty job. And secondly Im not entirely sure they actually diagnosed the issue or just hooked up the scanner and pulled the code. Generally when you get a vehicle diagnosed at a shop they will let you know what the issue is and give you a parts and labor quote for the repair. After having the vehicle for a couple days there was still no quote and they required payment to release the vehicle to me. I sat in the lobby and called the NW jeep myself to get the pricing on the new intake manifold unit and wrote it down on invoice. It took all of like 10 min to get the parts information on my own and they still never gave me a quote on the labor portion of the job even though I had already paid for this service. At this point I was incredibly disappointed in the way they conducted themselves especially to a customer that just spent well over $1000 on a repair that still wouldnt get the jeep through DEQ. Now I know engines and on this particular model the intake manifold has to be removed in order to pull the catalytic converter to perform the initial repairs. Now if the intake manifold code was not present before their technician had removed it, I would consider this a warranty issue. Now if they had informed me that the intake manifold needed to be replaced while they were replacing the cat I would have been more than happy to replace it while the engine was apart. After taking a week or two to review the situation to make sure I was within my rights, I emailed the corporate office with no response. Now Im sure they get all kinds of emails and they are only human but I found this to be incredibly unprofessional and difficult to swallow. Im clearly not going to see any justice from the shop level or from the corporate level. So the only other thing I can think is to take this to the legal system and/or letting the public know how they conduct business. The man who own this location also own several other Honest 1 locations in oregon. I would highly consider doing some research before choosing a shop. Dont get me wrong they have very skilled and knowledgeable technicians however, since they got a new manager it no longer about the customer and the vehicle its about increasing the profit margins at the expense of their integrity.

I purchased a groupon from Honest 1 Auto Care which included a AC inspection. When I called the gentleman said to have that done it would cost an additional $60 just for the inspection and then wouldnt give me a price for what it would cost in addition to that to service and add freon. Needless to say, I cancelled the groupon coupon and found another garage that was professional and up front about what their groupon included and what the service included. Jays Auto is where I chose to go. They got me in quickly and were up front and HONEST!

These guys are gruff and irritable. We had them diagnose our check engine light, which they told us would be no charge, and they were no able to find out what was wrong. Their diagnosis when I arrive was given to me with a helpless shrug. Then they tried to charge me $90! I was able to talk them down to half that, but still, what. Then I took my car in because it was wobbling on the axle and they told me I had over $1,000 worth of repairs to do to make it even road-worthy again. I asked them for an itemized list and he told me he would have to charge me for the time it took to write everything down!!! I then e-mailed that list to my uncle who told me that over half of the items were total nonsense. Avoid this place at all costs.
