Employees were friendly, even under the pressure of checking in many of us and answering the phones. It was a quick, easy check in process. The car smelled a little, you could tell someone smoked in it before. But for the price, it is what it is. The car got us where we needed and all so whatever.

This is an incredible car rental agency—helpful and efficient in every way. When I had a problem with another rental car company, Payless (Susan, in particular) saved me: they sent a shuttle for my family, found us a car, despite being sold out, and even managed to lower the originally quoted price! All this while also being pleasant, polite, and welcoming. Can’t recommend them highly enough!

Great experience at this rental company, in addition to it being the best deal. We only had to wait at the airport for about 10 minutes before the shuttle arrived. Steven, the driver, could not have been more friendly and helpful - what a nice gentleman. We didnt have any lines and the process to get our car took about 10-15 minutes. The car we got is what we paid for, not luxury but in pretty good condition, which is what I expected with the price we paid. When we returned the car, the shuttle had just left, so the woman at the front had another employee take my husband, my baby and me to the airport in a minivan by ourselves, so we did not have to wait for the shuttle. That is great customer service, and was so appreciated, especially when travelling with a a baby. We were charged what was expected and refunded the $200 deposit within 2 days. Every persons experience is different, ours was great with this company.

I had the best experience at this car rental company. They efficiently got me my car. And some of the workers noticed that I was struggling with my luggage and trying to fit it into the car trunk, and went out of their way to stop what they were doing and rush over and help me. Their customer service was top-tier. Highly recommend. And super affordable!!

We went through Payless this weekend for our rental while in the area. Unfortunately the experience was not a good one. We received a JEEP as our rental for the weekend which was cool, however the car was visibly dirt inside and outside the vehicle. In addition to the JEEP being dirty and not clean the change oil notification began alerting as well. The most problematic thing for us was that the vehicle smelled extremely bad from cigarette smoke. When my family and I first got into the car we did not notice this because we had masks on as a result of Covid. When we took our masks off on 95 we noticed the cigarette smoke and it was really bad. We are not smokers so that made it even more unpleasant. We did call the front desk to notify them that it smelled of smoke because we didn’t want to be charged for the smoke smell inside the vehicle. What was unfortunate is that no one offered us a replacement for that rental when we notified them of the cigarette smell. We paid a lot of money for the car for the weekend, so that was a bummer.

It took 15 minutes at the most to be picked up at Philadelphia Int. Airport and that was only a minor wait. Check In was the fastest of any car rental I ever had, 3 minutes. So far everything been a 10. Also it was 40 percent cheaper than all other car rentals companies. 50 percent cheaper then the top rated companies. The cars had 5756 miles but who car and yes it was not a glamorous place but who cares for the price and very good service. I would say if you are paying for it RENT THERE AND yes it is of the Airport about 10 to 15 minutes. Go for them.

Our first and definitely our last experience with this rental company. First it took over an hour just to get to the actual place to pick up the car because the shuttle took so long to arrive. Then we get a car that is not clean at all. There was dust and grease stains on the car surfaces. The passenger seat looked like someone spilled all types of things on it. This was by far the worst rental we have ever gotten. I would say, “you get what you paid for,” but that’s an understatement.

IPhone was stolen from car and I used GPS there and use Bluetooth for music on phone/do I know phone was left there/ I find iPhone was tracking there at location and I was told no one saw iphone I noticed phone stop ringing / was turn off : with a full charge please don’t leave anything in car because you will not get it back they not trustful at all

This car rental wasn’t a great experience and doesn’t run professional. I arrive to airport late because of weather delay. I went outside to wait for my shuttle bus and it took 25 minutes for them to show up. The other car rental shuttle have tons in every 5 minutes.When I get my car the gas tank wasn’t full. So I have to pay extra gas money. Thanks a lot. In the past couple time to rent a car with Payless I never needed car renter insurance. Now I do and cost $250 for 5 days. Outrageous.The workers are great and professional.Their shuttle ride is 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday. Weekend 8am to 4pm.

Affordable and vehicle was really nice. Building is small so there was a backup when our flight shuttle brought us over but Teddy was very knowledgeable and polite. Drop-off was easily done at The Parking Spot and we received a shuttle ride back to the airport. Would definitely recommend if youre looking to save some money on a car rental.

This past weekend, I was traveling to Philly with my four month old son. I prepaid through their website for the car I needed weeks in advance. When the shuttle picked me and three other people up at the airport, we were informed that they were out of cars and that they would have to try to find us reservations elsewhere. I was traveling with a lot of luggage and my son was exhausted, plus I had PREPAID, so I was very upset. After arriving at the facility and waiting in line for 30 minutes trying to keep my son from crying, I was finally told that I could wait an undetermined amount of time for a car to be returned, or they could book me somewhere else, but they also couldnt guarantee they could find me a car somewhere else because everyone was busy. Because I prepaid, I would have had to call their corporate office to get a refund, which would take days, and meanwhile pay for another car. I decided to wait, not wanting to put my son through another bus ride. I waited for over an hour while many other people came in and were also upset that they had reservations but there were no cars. They must have turned away 10 angry customers that day just while I was there. Finally, a car was returned, and I left the facility an hour and a half after my original reservation.The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 is that the man who helped me, Teddy, was very kind and helpful and truly did seem to feel bad. He got my luggage into the car while I carried my son and apologized for the situation. It didnt seem to be his fault, but whoever is running this place needs to be fired.Also, there was no changing table in the filthy bathroom. Definitely not friendly to people traveling with children.The car was fine and luckily returning the car was a much smoother process.

This place is horrible. Absolutely zero customer service. We reserved a car 3 months ago we were supposed to pick up our car at 6:00pm. Plane was a little late we got off the plane at 6:15 proceeded to baggage claim got our bags. Went out stood in the rental car bus line for about 45 minutes. No Payless shuttle. Start asking around find out they close at 6:00pm so there are at least 5 families in the same situation as us. So we call Payless to find out that Philadelphia pay less is a franchise and there closed and we are SOL. We try to get another car for a competitor no cars available in Philadelphia at all. Big weekend everything is sold out. Call Payless Friday morning first thing when they open. First women I talk to says. They knew they had reservations and they even stayed until 6:15. But we didn’t show up. So they left. As I asked her what they could do to fix the situation she continued to get nasty with me and hung up on me. So I called back and her supervisor answered the phone continued to tell me it’s my fault and that I should have read the fine print. We argue for 15 or so minutes. Never did he offer to get us a car or do anything at all to help. He could have cared less about us or the 4 other families that were stranded in Philadelphia with out a rental car. All he could do was continue to blame us and covid. Never once did he take any responsibility or even offer to try to help. We travel a lot and yes the rental car companies have all been struggling the past few months. However, this experience was a horrible excuse of a company. And this Payless franchise could care less. Pay attention to all the other reviews. They are a poorly run company and Payless should not allow them to use there name.

This is the worst rental car place I have ever used. I rent cars twice a month on average. Do not rent from this place. I am here at 8:10 to return my car and nobody is here to return my car. Horrible service. Waited 50 mi utes to get picked up.

Be warned, you must have your own car insurance if you want to rent from this location, which is conveniently not mentioned anywhere on the website when you book. If you do not have insurance and your credit card does not offer collision coverage, you will not be able to rent a car, as I found out while attempting to pick up my scheduled rental. They do not offer insurance to you, which, if I had insurance or my own car, why would I be renting a car? Luckily I was able to call and get a refund, but still a major inconvenience.

Flights got delayed on Sunday, so when I arrived at the airport I couldnt find the shuttle, then I realized the place was closed. I tried calling to see if I can pick up after hours but got no answer. I dont recommend this place. You are better off going with a company like enterprise which is 24/7.

I will continue to rent cars from this location. Make sure you have a chance to speak with Cornell. He was a godsend helping me and eventually navigating me to the nearest Red Roof Inn, because I did not have my directions and it was late at night when I finally got my rental. I am entirely grateful to Cornell for his help and the least I could do was leave a review. If I ever need another rental, I know exactly where to go. Thank you again, and by the way, my car was a very clean Nissan, great on gas. The overall rental experience with Payless was fabulous. I will be back-Aamira

This is the worst car rental place I have ever been to. They charge more fees than what is posted 200 deposits, they charge your card before you check in, even though the website says they will not. I booked my car a week in advance. They still don’t have my selected rental and they keep trying to get my personal Insurance. Never have I had such a bad car rental experience and this was through Priceline. Do not go for the sales pitch online, horrrible!!!!!

Best car rental place I have dealt with. The woman who is there in the mornings during the week is super nice and extremely helpful. I would recommend going and dealing with her everytime if possible but all the workers are nice that I met. Would recommend going there for your rental needs.

Had reservation for 3months prior. Got to PHL airport and took 1 1/2hrs to get picked up. Then when picked up was advised they had no cars and would have to wait. After 30 minutes they told me my vehicle was ready. Went out and front left of car was wrecked and they said I could wait longer but I wasnt going to wait for another vehicle to show up. Called Payless reservation office to try to get compensated for wrecked vehicle and was told no. Last time I ever use Payless anywhere.

Teddy and Carnell provided excellent customer service for even the most difficult customers when I was picking up my car. They upgraded me to a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon for a couple dollars and it was an amazing car with only 1,000 miles on it. Thank you, guys!

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! I rented a car when I arrived at the Philadelphia airport and no curtesy bus came to pick me up from the airport. I called the phone number provided at the time I rented the car and there was no answer so I had no choice but to call an Uber to bring me to the car lot (LOCATED OFF OF THE AIRPORT CAMPUS) When I arrived via Uber at 6:00PM to pick up my car the gates were locked and I was unable to pick up the car that was already charged to my account.....$422.49 for a TWO DAY RENTAL. So there I was in the middle of a shady industrial park with no car for my 2 hour drive ahead of me and ended up having to call another UBER to drive me to my destination and pay another $105. When I called Payless today (JUNE 22,2021) and explained my ordeal, the girl on the phone was so rude and blamed me for booking a car at 6:00PM the time I was allowed to choose at the time of rental when they close and said that they were there at that time. That is simply not true. ... even my UBER driver couldnt believe it!I was literally scared for my life and I highly discourage you from renting from this place!

The customer service person was rude short and continously cut me off when I had questions. I rented through priceline so a lot of the rules and policy I was not aware of. Since it is the holiday weekend we have no where else to go to rent something else. . Customer service means a lot to me and there was none. Also no selection of cars.

We recently rented a car here. I swear we got a reposessed car. Or someones personal car. It had duct tape residue on each door even the truck. It smelled awful of cigarettes. Even had burn marks. Had a error reading on dash. And a very bald tire. They gave us the car with a 1/4 tank of gas. I tried calling them and couldnt get through. My husband wanted to tell them our problems with it when he returned the car a day early and they were too busy on the phone for him to do so. I have contacted the corporate office and got just an apology. Nothing more.So disappointed!

Worse customer service and experience Ive ever had with a rental. They rented me a car that had no tread and the tire blew up while driving! Then decided to charge me for the tire. After I complained the men working spoke to me rudely and accused me of doing wrong doing to the tire. They have no concern for your safety or others.

Payless Car Renal has no idea what customer service is or has any understanding of empathy. I reserved a car and my flight was delayed and my wife arrived at PHL airport and went to pick up the car and she couldnt since the reservation was made with my credit card..... same last name for IDs and same bank credit card.... which it clearly states in Terms and Conditions is not an issue. The wanted to cancel my reservation (no refund) and create a new one to solve the situation. Unbelievable!!!!! Dont rent from Payless!!!!

Typically I rent through Avis as I am subscribed to their rewards program. On this particular trip to Philadelphia, Avis was out of rental cars (I will be submitting a review for them shortly) and had to book through the only other rental provider Hertz with “available” cars. I reserved a car and upon arrival to the rental counter (the line was out the door and Hertz only had two people tending to the crowd), they announced that there would be an hour long wait for cars. Poor customer service, poor organization and poor communication. Rent from anywhere else - so long as there are cars available.

Only one shuttle from PHL airport. Car was given to me with a half tank of gas even though their agreement said full. The car stank like cigarette smoke. Wipers needed to be replaced. Stains and cigarette holes all in the car. Wrote to the company two weeks ago about my experience and still have not received a reply.

This company is great, I was in Philadelphia and I had a problem with my credit card, I reserved my car with Enterprise and they did not rent me a car because I had a debit card and I didn’t have a driver license from Philadelphia, I couldn’t believe it. Then someone told me about this company so I took an Uber and they got me a car with a 200.00 deposit that was refunded 2 days after taking the car. I was very pleased with their service and would 100% recommend them.

The absolute worst! 0 stars if it was possible. Waited more than 1 hour for the shuttle that takes 15 minutes (conservatively) between PHL airport and store. Was standing with other folks that had been waiting 2 hours and another waiting 45 minutes. Arrived to the store an zero cars available. Driver didn’t help anyone with their bags. No Tips! Was going to be 1-1/2 hour wait for a rental agreement for almost 2 hours prior. Then booked another car through another travel site and was going to charge me $285 more than the original rental. Others left and Uber’d and/ or chose another rental car company. THE WORST. Any positive reviews must be inside reviews and not customers. STAY AWAY!!! Pay $2-5 more per day and go elsewhere. You’ve been warned

I rented a vehicle untill 8pm. No one told me that they close at 6pm. I tried calling customer care and they told me there was nothing they could do for me. I was hung up on mutipal times. I could not return my car that evening and my flight departed at 7:10 am. Payless did not open untill 7am. I could not return my car. I had to reschedule my flight. I lost out on 12+ hours of overtime due to the miscommunication.I only found out of the after hour return site when I returned the vehicle the next day. Two thumbs down!!! 👎👎

Reserved this place from Priceline for a 7 passenger car. Got there and they only carried 5 passenger vehicles. I had to go to the Alamo, as a walk-in, and I got my 7passenger vehicle for $120 less.Never again will I reserve from here.

Horrible experience. We reserved an SUV for a funeral we were flying in for. After waiting in line for 30 minutes we were told they had no more cars. How do you run out of cars when we have a reservation? Not only did they not have a car for us but 2 other families behind us did get a car. What was their recommendation... take the shuttle back to the airport and work with another rental car company. They were not willing to call another company and get us a car, they were not willing to do anything to help us. Apparently this is such a common issue the shuttle bus driver has a form already printed that we are supposed to give to the next rental car company that says they will pay the difference between what we paid and what the new rental car costs.After fighting with them for another 30 minutes they miraculously found a Toyota Corolla (we reserved an SUV) we were able to cram into and rush to make the viewing. We later spoke to the manager (Suzanne) and she said there was nothing they could do to refund us any money since we booked through Expedia. They said Expedia takes 6 months to pay them. After speaking to Expedia, thats a complete lie.Save yourself the headache and book through a reputable company. So frustrated with this experience and their total disregard for their customers. Payless - you need to hire people that actually care about the customers.

Extremely bad experience here. We booked a car and flew in from Tampa, Florida just to find out that they had no cars and we were going to have to wait because they overbooked. We asked how long and they said they did not know. What kind of customer service is this. Can I expect all of the same type of service from all over the state of Pennsylvania. I sure hope not. Dont ever rent from these shady people. Thank God we ended up getting a car from Hertz after having to walk over a mile to get there.EDIT: As of 12/02/2020. I just got a comment from the Philadelphia office. Yes, of course I rented from your office. Google automatically links me to where I have been. I am not an idiot. Worst car rental place!! We only booked with this company because we were given a discount deal when booking our airline tickets. Shuttle takes forever to get you to and from airport. It is located in a sketchy area. Add extra time for pickup and drop off. Cars arent cleaned before renting them. Staff doesnt wear masks around customers, always pulled if their faces. Checkout was cumbersome and time consuming. EASY PASS IS NOT PROVIDED! We had to avoid toll roads on our drive to New Jersey. The only good thing about this rental company is Steve, the driver of the shuttle. He was very kind. Avoid renting from this place!

From the initial 30 minute wait for shuttle service, to the compound distant location, followed by terrible counter processing with all of the staff either not wearing protective masks or wearing them under their mouths, to the return rush you in then sent the vehicle back out in less than 5 minutes. I accidentally left a headrest pillow and prescription glasses and contacted site for assistance and was told they werent found. This has been the worst rental car experience I have ever had. If I could give out rating less than zero I would. Spend the extra 20 or so dollars and go with a respectable company.

This is a franchise location. As such, expect a much lower standard than normal. Expect the Hertz, Enterprise, Avis, and even Sixt shuttles to pass by at least three times before the Payless shuttle comes by to pick you up. Takes over 10 min per person to check in due to extraneous paperwork, so there will be a long line. They charged a daily $4.99 roadside service charge without asking if I wanted it or telling me about. Car had a low tire pressure light on, high beams did not work at all, and steering had a pretty bad vibration. I rent around 20 cars per year and this is the worst Ive had in years. No redeemable qualities other than maybe saving $20 on a weekly rental, but theyll just tack that on with added fees, so there is NO SAVINGS and really no reason to use Payless over a more reputable company.

By far one of the best experiences I’ve ever had renting a car. The service is unmatched and the cars move forward when you put them in drive. What more could you ask? Let me tell you about the reverse option, when done so, the car will move BACKWARDS. This is a marvel of our generation and Payless tops all other car rental services. On the conventional grading system I give Payless an A+ and will definitely use them and only then when I need to rent a car.

I have rented cars in numerous times around the country for work and personal use. The crew at Payless made it easier than I have ever experienced before. I have recommended them already to friends that will be traveling to Philadelphia. Pick up was a little slow, but in their defense it was busy and I made my reservation pretty last minute. Drop off was super easy, even at 5am. From the shuttle driver to the person answering the phones everyone was polite and professional.

I needed a compact sedan for a wedding weekend in Philadelphia. I made this reservation a full month before the wedding.I arrived at Payless and all they had available was a 15 passenger van. I needed to get to the rehearsal dinner, so I begrudgingly accepted.Parking this massive van in Philadelphia was impossible. I had to park in the suburbs and take a Lyft into the city.With a hectic wedding schedule all weekend, the van remained parked and I spent money on Lyfts all weekend to get around.When I finally had a chance to return the van (a day early) I had put a total of 10 miles on it. They had no sympathy for my situation and charged me full price, and recommended that I call their customer support to provide feedback.Getting ahold of anyone to discuss the situation via phone is all but impossible. Ill never rent from Payless again and would advise that you stay far away.

Awful. Avoid at all costs. We stood at the pick up place waiting for a shuttle, no shuttle for 30+ minutes. Finally, a driver from another rental company told us that for Payless you have to call them in advance to pick you up (would have been helpful to know that in advance, but whatever)..So finally we got picked up and when we went to check in (I made a reservation MONTHS in advance) they told me they had no cars left (excuse me, what???) because “no one had returned them” and they “weren’t sure if they would ever return them” so they had to cancel us. At that point, no other rental companies had anything available. Even the shuttle driver for Payless went into the building and stood up for us, telling the guys at the front desk that it was ridiculous. We ended up having to Uber to our destination. Such a disgrace.

Michael was extremely helpful with setting up our reservation which included shuttle service. He was responsive and helpful with all my questions and concerns. We have a family of 7, so a big vehicle was a necessity along with requirements for car seats. Day of service James and Briell were super helpful. They were quick with getting our reservation together as well as helping wrangle our kiddos. Payless came through on all aspects - courteous, helpful and prompt. Will definitely use again.

DO NOT go on the weekends. The weekend staff is not attentive and it just makes the process stressful. Monday-Friday is when the management team is there. Go during the weekday and you should have a pleasant experience.

This was the worst experience of my life. They had terrible customer service. The car are already beat up. The car wasn’t cleaned out thoroughly and during a pandemic that is especially ridiculous. The sales reps didn’t know anything which made The Whole situation difficult. I called the day of my return to ask if I could keep the car longer, the lady said yes. She stated they do after hours return. I got to the Payless location to return my car at 7:00. One hour after close and the gate was closed and they never gave me a code to get in. I was able to get in the gate because another guy had to get his car but I didn’t make my flight. This company is cheap but they are a huge liability. I’d give 1 star if possible

Cornell West has always treated my family and I with the utmost respect, sense of urgency, And kindness. We wouldn’t go to another Parking place because We trust Cornell And Payless with our cars. We have been coming to Payless for years and the attendants when we walked in immediately remember us and our cars and we don’t have to wait long. What a phenomenal place with phenomenal staff!

We were very disappointed with our 15 passenger van rental that cost $1555.11 The van was very damaged, and stinky inside, however we were in a rush as we were late for a conference an hour drive away. This duct taped windshield was one of a few damage pictures I took before leaving the lot. I guess I assumed we would have a very nice vehicle for the price we paid and instead we had something that should probably not be rented at all. When I mentioned the above concerns they offered a 10% discount. Too bad...I expected more.

Transport to the airport is always prompt. Drivers are very friendly and helpful. Pick up is usually quick. Once had a problem but another time a driver told us to wait inside to stay warm and he would call me when he was at the pickup point. I thought that was extraordinarily kind.

I bought their 4-day parking Groupon deal. The total for 4 days at $35 + $9.80 of taxes and (hidden) fees = $45 (airport access fee = $5; 4 day taxes = $4.80). Total for the official airport parking, which costs $11/day, including taxes = $44. Deal is definitely NOT worth it! Besides, the We are not responsible for any damages to vehicle or articles in case of fire, theft, negligence or any other causes is not really trust-inspiring. (see picture if you think Im exaggerating). To be fair, they do have a shuttle to the airport and my car did not get damaged by any of the things they do not claim responsibility for, so Im giving them an extra star.

Well, it was cheap & the car drove well, so thats the most important thing. But it was very unprofessional, the back seat was covered in glitter, and it took FOREVER to pick up the car (like 30 minutes, even though Id made a reservation online days before). The one guy was pretty annoyed because my flight had been delayed by 2 hours, so I got there right before closing time, which was only 6:00 pm, and he clearly wanted to go home. The other guy was nice. They both wore their face masks under their chins. As soon as I stepped outside they locked the door & turned off the lights, and it was dark & rainy & I thought that was kind of mean. The shuttle driver was very nice & kind. Im not sure I would use them again, it might be worth it to pay more & have a better experience.

This is my first time renting from this company. Although the staff was kind and pleasant the wait time at the airport was way too long. The rental location was 6 minutes away from the Airport. I called to be picked up and it took 40 minutes. Had I known initially that it was going to take as long I would have gotten an Uber to the place.

If you’re in a rush, don’t use Payless. I’m currently At the Philadelphia airport— I’ve seen a shuttle service for every company under the sun (they rotate every 5 min or so). Payless is supposed to have a shuttle every 15 min or so— we showed up at 8:20 and our shuttle showed up at 8;53

Horrible customer service. Horrible customer support line. Customer support doesn’t speak English nor do they even listen to the issue. The car was wrecked when we got it. Body damage from the front to back. Vehicle wreaked of cigarette smoke but I was advised it’s a no smoking policy. The shuttle took 30 minutes to pick us up from the airport & it was extremely hot outside. Save yourself the hassle & go with a NAME BRAND provider. Payless is trash & will never see my money again.
