I should have followed my spirit after reviews...Appointment time: 10:amSeen : appx 1:00 pmI originally was going for braidsI let the owner convince me she could do a sew in, with a closure....i say convince because I am bald up top ...I went to buy two bundles of hair..I return and she has a relative in her chair and i was sent to someone else to braid it...Then told the other girl would weave/sew in..I said, wait. You said you would do it!!.She replied, oh she can do it well.While sitting there a young lady came to have ger hair fixed.......i should have known...After getting the sew in started, she comes over..Fina, with the closure and says, 75...I reply, 75 what?..She says, 75 for closure.I tell her you never said that !!!Says you dont have to but i ask..then how will she close it????!!!It was clear the girl did not know how as Fina guided her verbally in their language...fina even started some to show her..oh..i missed in the beginning when i asked how the closure would be supported..i sad are you gonna glue it??? She said. No glue...Anyway...she used glue..on my forehead..Why am I posting this...well, not one hour later in the store, the cap is showing...allllllll in the front...$215.00 for sew in+ 75.00 for closure..2 bundles.70.00...grand lesson......respect and learn from the reviews..she is just not an honest professional. Likes to play on words...

When I say I love my hair… I’m not from Austin but I have been here for 2 years now. I’m suppppper picky about my hair but especially my braids… so I was very nervous 😬 but as you came see Nena did her thang with my hair. Small box braids super neat. I recommend Nena hands 🙌🏾 down… it’s the detail for me.

The most dreadful salon experience Ive ever experienced! I spent $95 for 2Strand Twists of my own hair (no extensions), only to get back home, and immediately cover my head.First off, I take full responsibility for not doing my due diligence in finding a salon that would be the right fit, for me. And, for the fact that I was short on my patience - I wanted my hair twisted, NOW.Well, after the owner looked at my hair, she offered to have it twisted for $85. They dont wash your hair, so I drove back home to wash my hair (Mistake #1). The owner suggested I leave it wet, and as her staff parted through my her, she roughly pulled through wet & fine thin hair with no care about how she was damaging my hair (Mistake #2). In the beginning of her parting my hair, I could tell she was making big parts; then, I found out she had another client who was late, so the owner tells the late client that the girl doing my hair would be done in 30 minutes - we had just started (Mistake #3). When I told her I wanted mini twists, she up the price to $95 (Mistake #4). My hair has a much finer grade in the back, and is much longer. So when the lady was done with twisting my hair, she took a hair pin and my hair clip to lift up the back. Then when I was ready to pay with my credit card, the owner accepted my card, but then decided to ask me for cash because she needed cash to pay the lady who did my hair - why should you paying your staff be your customers issue? (Mistake #5).To sum up my disappointment and frustration, I paid someone else $95 to twist my hair, but I had to wash it, use my own product, inconvenience myself, again, to go get cash.What happened to the days of getting your hair washed & conditioned (especially before a braid/twist do? What happened to some sort of consultation & recommendations based on your particular hair type? What happened to caring for your customers hair with knowledge & wisdom to not further damage by pulling a fine tooth through wet course hair? And, why up the cost because I ask that there be some adequate time spent in doing, and not 30 min.? (I could have saved, the original, $85 quoted, and put some big twists in my own hair for free).Im not big on causing a scene, and to save myself, and all involved face, I decided to pay, use this platform, and never go back.I, now, know that I need someone who can do more than braid. I need someone who cares ❤

My 4 year old daughter got her hair breaded I was told 50 when she was done she raised the price to 75 I ask why she said that’s the price for your son which is not what she told me. I went in for a sew in I was told to grab hair with three bundles in it when I got there I was told that was not enough hair after they jam packed all of the hair up at the top of my head forcing me to either go out and buy more hair or purchase one bundle for almost $90 from them the shop just wants to make money I also told the owner that the got to be glued spray would not work at the top of my head being that I have mostly baby hair at the front of my forehead and I told her that it would lift she told me don’t worry whenever he lifts up to come back and I will fix it for free and order a product that will stay After working a long week I was not able to get back in the salon I went to call her about the front of my sewing lifting she told me that she would charge me to fix my hair $50 to fix the front and she also stated these things happen I should have not been charged I did not go back I wasted $400 and I just went head and took out the sew in the sew in and the hair all together cost me $400 I would not recommend the shop to anyone I felt it was a better option to just take it out rather than going up there to the shop cause baby if I did it was not going to be nice the lady that did my hair does not no what she is doing pulling the sew in until your scalp bleeds and the back came loose as well.

Worst place to get your hair done. I went my Singlist twist was coming un done. Went back couple of days later the next my hair is coming out of the twist. Waste of 220! I’ll never go hear again! Puls the people in their was musty 🤢!

I called in the day of and got an appointment the same day. The stylist did my kinky twist and I was very pleased with the outcome. This was my 1st time going here. I will be returning back for Knotless braids. I saw some good work while I was there. Pls give this place a chance.

I was so disappointed $180 later. Only took 4 hours but one of the braiders dang near pulled my scalp to death. I have never had kinky twists this thin. They arent full at all. Just wont be back. Fina is very polite but I need what Im expecting with services provided.

Pending Resolution: I will update this review after my visit to the salon.I’ve gotten my hair braided professionally for over 20 years and have never had a set turn out this bad, especially for $170. The quality and consistency of the size of the braids is poor. I do not recommend using this salon for any services.

I was Highly disappointed because when I originally spoke with Ms. Fina she told me she would be the one to do my hair...I wanted her because I saw and liked her work...however when I arrived she had a different young lady that WAS NOT very experienced start on my hair! I should have followed my first mind and just left but needless to say I stayed and was VERY UNHAPPY with the results and it took way longer than expected just for a crochet style. She did not even fill in the hair all the way, she butchered it when trying to cut it and I had hair loss from the edges pulling to tight, not to mention a big bulky braid in the back from it not being braided properly or sewn down properly! I WILL NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND ANYONE TO FINA!

If Mrs Fina is not there, this shop does not run. I called at at 9am to see if they had appointments, I asked did I need to bring a deposit and was told no. At 1140 am I was called and asked to move my 1 pm appointment to 230pm because of a previous customer getting a sew in. I arrived at 220pm and proceeded to wait out turn. There was a cut little girl who was racing around the shop and even got her leg stuck on a chair. This child bellowed to one of the Braiding women. At approx 330pm as we waited, another lady came in and stated that she had an appointment at 330pm. She then went and sat down. One lady was doing colorful box braids and the other was doing the sew in. At approx 445 pm the lady doing the sew in finished and immediately called over the other lady. At no point did anyone acknowledge that we were sitting there nor that we had been waiting. It was only when I asked about why we were cut in line that they even looked at us. As we got up to leave, they proceeded to tell us to wait please. I would rather do business with Mrs Fina and the previous hair dresser. Today really sucked

I would suggest elsewhere, the person assigned to do my hair didnt even know how to braid the style. Left the ends loose and very uneven, hair was unraveling out of it the very next day. Went in for them to fix, they couldnt even do that, no point of even trying again. Also, would obviously be talking about patrons in another language in a negative connotation. Trust me just go somewhere else.

I love going to Finas. Shes always sweet, kind and pleasant. I get good quality braids. I love all the ladies there. They get you in and out. This is the only place in Austin I will go to

FINA NEVER FAILS!!!!!!Fina has ALWAYS done my braids/twists and has never failed me yet. She REALLY came through for me recently. I was pressed for time due to my work schedule during COVID-19. I am a Frontline worker and Fina sacrificed her time and took down my twists, allowed me to leave and go get my hair washed and colored and come back to pit them back in. It was SUCH a long day for her and she sacrificed for me and i am FOREVER GRATEFUL!! SHE IS AMAZING AND I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE!! On top of everything...I LOVE MY HAIR!! IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED!!!THANK.....YOU.....FINA!!!!

I was tricked on the phone to go to her shop by her talk game, via phone. Seemed trustful and supportive while speaking very softly.Owner promised one price of 150.00. That was a lie.Additionally, spoke of Covid procedures and me only wanting one braider. I was assured by her that her shop was safe and it was a different energy there. She gave whole spill about God didn’t give us the spirit of fear. Which I do believe. I told her at time I had a limited amount to spend. She said “no worries, God is speaking through. Said “don’t worry about sending a picture..I will take care of it ! God was working through me to bless you “and spoke a prophecy!I get there, she mislead me! Saying I misunderstood! SMH tricky at best in my opinion.The braid chairs did not even appear 6 feet apart at time.

I too wish I would have read the reviews prior to keeping my appointment. The place was very clean and Fina and the lady that did not hair was very very nice. When the lady finished with my hair it was very cute. Just like the picture I had showed them. The young lady did not braid my hair tight at all. I have only had my hair done for 3 weeks and have lost a braid. I guess I would not be that upset but Ms. Fina insisted that I pay $240 up front before my hair was even half way done. She left me and the girl there. Again the hair was cute but after just 3 weeks and braids are already fallen out. I suggest Ms. Fina offer her stylist some classes to make sure that the quality of their work reflects what she present her business to be. Also, when someone refer them to you, you should try your best to do their hair. I only came there based off of Ms. Fina work. I wont be referring anyone to the lady that did my hair. Therefore no referral for Ms. Fina.

I expected Fina to do my granddaughter hair. She had booked another lady at the same time my 8 yr old granddaughter appointment was. And I was charged 120 for a braid style that should have been charged less because it does not look professionally done...

This was the absolute worse salon experience I have ever had. I get it that owners and stylist want to make money, but if you do not know how to do a style, then at least say that so customers can either choose another style or go someplace else. Prior to going, I asked for either twists or crochet. Because I was having surgery and wanted something simple, would not take as long as braids to install, and would be easy to take out, I decided on crochet with loose hair. Fina assured me that they knew how to install this type of hair.Upon arriving to the shop, I was one of two customers. The shop was clean and Fina was cleaning the entire time. They did have the tv and two radios on (with different stations playing) which was kind of annoying. The girl started braiding my hair and I asked her not to braid too tight. I constantly had to tell her this. When she started to put in the crochet hair, I noticed it was taking quite a bit of time to get it hooked. I didnt say anything because perhaps loose hair takes longer. She installed an entire pack in the area just above my right ear. I said to her please move to the other side and do not use so much hair. I had to tell her several times to stop adding hair as it was becoming to thick in some areas.Most stylist I have been to will map out how they will do the front to conceal the knots on crochet. She did not plan for this at all, and when she showed me the front (like unveiling a prize car) I wanted to scream. Some of the crochet hair had been knotted like 2-3 times and others 6-8 times in my head and she simply had that same knot pattern on the part. Picture tree braids as if someone just kept tying the hair in a knot like tying a shoe. I got out my phone and showed her how to do an invisible knot on YouTube. Fina came over understood and showed her also. She said she got it and was going to fix and do the part that way. All I can say is she didnt get it and her was was instead of putting 6 knots, put 2 on some and 12 on others.After sitting there for 5 hours, I can not convey the amount of anger and disappointment I had. I am a nice person and probably a push over, so I was just like let me get out of here. I paid $30 for packs of hair and $160 to let this girl completely trash my head. Never mind the fact that the crochet started to come out the next day! I tried putting the hair in a French braid at least until the other side of my surgery, but literally the hair is falling out in some places. My sister tried to insert some hair back just to cover some open gaps.I will add that absolutely no one has asked me where I got my hair done, but many close friends and family members have encouraged me to take it out my head stating it looks like trash and as if someone was practicing on my head. I would have posted a picture, but am far to embarrassed. to get a visual, imagine Cousin It from the Adams Family, but with black hair and random open spots. This was a waste of nearly $200. I will never go back there again and certainly encourage others not to go there. Maybe their braid work is better, but... based on reviews, it seems hit or miss.

Fina has been doing my childrens hair for 3 yrs. I love her environment, kindness, and hairstyles. The prices I have paid were reasonable and always satisfied.

They really know how to do hair. My hair grew while wearing their braids.

When it comes to the work I would give the braider a 5, but professionalism and work go hand and hand, so thats where the 3 comes from.I made an appointment two weeks in advance for my daughter. We arrive for the 9am appointment, the young lady remembers and lets owner know this the appointment she told her about. Owner claims she didnt. So right there that shows lack of communication. We were asked to come back at 12 thats when someone else would be in that could work on it. We come back at 12 she ask what length and size and say okay. I leave and almost 2 hours later (THEY STILL HAVENT STARTED) they have my daughter call me to say the price will be different(more) than what I was quoted TWO WEEKS AGO when I initially made the appointment. Umm no!! So she agrees to do it for the original price. Im used to braid shops in Houston but this was my first experience here in the Austin area. Unfortunately I wont be going back to this particular place. On to the next.

For the price I wish my hair turned out better. However, great customer service. If youre buying hair from them call to make sure they have your color. I wanted jet black and they were out. I ended up with red/ burgundy, Im new here and dont know where to go to get hair so hopefully you wont have my experience. 😑

Wish I had read the reviews before I made an appointment. I made an appointment 2 weeks ago at 9:00 a.m. today (11/17/2017). When I arrived she was just finishing up the cornrows for a crochet hairdo. I told her I had a 9 oclock appointment and she said I would be next after the crochets. Turns out the crochet part took ANOTHER hour and a 1/2 and she then put another woman in the seat ahead of me. Came over to explain that 1 woman would be doing the front and she would be doing the back but this is already almost 2 hours after my APPOINTMENT!! A lot of apologies but nothing about a price break or anything. I promptly made an appointment up the street and wont be returning here or recommending her. This is why it is better to go to a kitchen beautician sometimes.

Went to have 1 neat row of my edges braided, they charged me $30 and did 13 braids, which 4 braids came out the next morning, and 6 more the following day, so I went back and clearly they were not happy about fix my hair......, all of a sudden “it was too short” .My Response was “Its clearly not & if it was you could’ve told me that and I could’ve kept my money”... It was done by the owner Fina! I asked for at least half of my money back and left!!!

So let me just start by saying UNPROFESSIONAL I called Fina on a Wednesday inquiring about a service and availability. She was just like yea yea you can come in hunny I can take you what day you want to come? Today? I said no Id like to come Friday or Saturday morning. She said she was booked Saturday but I could be her last appointment on Friday I was fine with that. She never asked what service I wanted never asked my NAME or Number to confirm or anything.. that shouldve been a red flag (my fault). I got there Friday about 5:20pm because she said her last appointment is around 6 so come about 5:30 I get there walk in and she JUST SAT SOMEONE DOWN and was starting on her hair. She was like did I tell you to come. Uh yea.. she said oh well the other girl didnt show up.. you can come back Monday. No maam I cant Bye Fina. Plenty of competition in the area not gone waste time on a unprofessional business. Will continue to ride right on by.

I have recieved poor service multiple times at this location, they fail to keep consistent appointments and fail to have available employees ready to work.The quality of the service is good though they seem to know what they are doing but it is too difficult to set appointments and for them to follow through with their word

Please watch your hair while here. I have had weaves on my hair so many times by different people, and my weaves always looked full. It was different at this place. I saw her open the closure and the first bag of weave and not the second one. I have gaps in my head, which I will fix. Further, she sent me to a beauty shop to buy another weave knowing very well what was up. I did not buy another weave. I went back to the store and paid her. I called her to let her know I have never had this problem before and she was so abrasive, would not let me talk and was angry that I could even accuse her of stealing my hair. I just needed an answer. I apologized because I felt bad Incase I was wrong... Today, I went back to the store where I bought the weave and the lady confirmed that it looked like only one bag was used. We live and learn! Go at your own risk! If anyone knows any honest stylists pls let me know.

This place is horrible. I paid $45 for 4 conrows and the women that braided my hair didn’t even get the money. The owner took it. The owner told me it’s $40 for a full set of hair. Smh the robbing people

First let me start off by saying I am a first time customer and am basing my review off of my personal experience of getting box braids. I was initially referred to Fina (the owner) through my sister who has gone to her multiple times and I have seen and liked her work. Therefore, when I made my appointment I wanted to be sure she (Fina) was the one to do my hair. However, that was not the case. When I originally called to make my appointment for Friday June 16, 2017 at 6pm she told me that she would call me that same day to let me know if she would be able to do it. Of course that didnt happen and I ended up calling her instead earlier on Friday and she confirmed that she would be the one doing my hair later that day at 6pm.So I arrive at 6pm and I see no one in her (Fina) chair but she tells me that she will only be doing the front part of my hair and her other 2 workers will be doing the back because she had another appointment coming in. I was not happy knowing that multiple people would be doing my hair because everyone has different braiding styles and I wanted my hair to look unison all over. I also wasnt happy with the fact that she double booked knowing that I was coming in to get box braids which typlically take awhile to do. Although her workers may do decent work, I originally wanted Fina to do my hair because Ive seen her work and she told me that she would be available I called her earlier to confirm. After waiting 45 minutes (till 6:45pm), one of her workers finally got started on my hair. Not to mention, they have this crazy rule where you have to pay for your service BEFORE you even sit in the chair!I didnt end up leaving Finas shop till after 11pm that night and Fina never even touched my hair! She flat out lied just to keep my appointment and get my money. The overall quality of my box braids was not worth the $160 that I paid for. Yes $160! Depending on the size you get her box braids usually run between $160- $180. Since I got medium sized braids mine cost $160. They provide hair or you can bring your own. The hair I brought was Xpressions which is typically the go-to kind of hair for box braids however, I later learned that they dont like to use this kind of hair at this shop. Once her worker finally finished my hair I was not satisfied with my box braids but couldnt do anything about it because the owner (Fina) left before my hair was even done. My biggest issue was that my hair was NOT braided all the way to the end nor sealed completely so my braids are constantly unraveling (see pictures).To sum things up, they do good work but have horrible business and customer service. If you call to make an appointment they most likely arent gonna turn you down because they want the money. However, be prepared to wait because they double book, pay up front, and hope that Fina is the one to actually do your hair even if you originally make your appointment with her. I personally would have rather spent my $160 elsewhere for better quality and service overall. I definitely wont be returning to Finas African Hair Braiding Salon.
