I have been training at Intelligent Fitness for just over a year. I have worked with personal trainers for over a decade, at big box gyms and smaller, independently owned facilities. I can say without hesitation that Liz and Mina are outstanding trainers. Perhaps what I value the most is the time and attention they invest in creating individually tailored programs that focus on flexibility, stability, and strength. This combination has been so effective at improving my performance as a runner, preventing injuries, and increasing muscle tone. I also love the inclusive, fun, and supportive environment that Liz and Mina have created for their clients. They offer small-group training sessions in an unpretentious environment. Finally, Liz and Mina take the time to work on their professional development as personal trainers rather than rest on their laurels. For all of the reasons and more, Intelligent Fitness gets my highest recommendation!
Ive been training at Intelligent Fitness for a little over a year. This is my first experience with weightlifting and also with small-group personal training. Liz and Mina, the coaches, build each of their members a custom program that lasts for around a month, after which they do a private strategy session with you to assess your progress and goals.I cant overstate how positive an impact Intelligent Fitness has had on my body, my self-esteem, and my overall happiness. Im stronger, fitter, and more confident in my bodys capabilities than Ive ever been. I have my share of body image issues and was initially nervous about joining a gym where Id be working out in front of other people, but the community is so diverse and friendly, those feelings are gone! I love working out with a mixed group of genders, backgrounds, ages, and capabilities. This is also a really safe place to train, especially for beginners. I have a joint condition that causes hypermobility all over my body, so Im used to hurting myself when I do strenuous exercise. Im not concerned about that at IF--Liz and Mina never push me to do more than I feel capable of doing and know multiple modifications for every exercise I do so I can get the best workout Im capable of, even if my capabilities change day-to-day.I especially love the community of people who train there--this is not a bro-y or macho gym environment at all. Im a queer woman with some extra curves, and I have never felt shamed for not looking like an Instagram fitness model. I love working out in a community that is explicitly woman-affirming and queer-friendly. Everyone is welcome at IF, as long as we treat each other with respect.
I have been training with Liz for 3+ years and continue to love my results! She sits down with me to personalize my program to fit MY needs for MY body. Having her keeps me accountable to my goals and makes sure Im actually doing my workouts right! She makes sure that she listens to what you want and offers great industry advice on silly myths you thought about weightlifting! She has been a trainer for a very long time and has worked with all sorts of athletes and people. She is also always educating herself on the latest in the industry and going to conferences to make sure she continues to learn and bring that back to the gym. The atmosphere of the gym is an incredibly welcome and positively supportive community of members that are helping each other and always smiling. Highly recommended!
Intelligent Fitness allows me to have a customized program based on my specific needs. I am guided through the various exercises and weight activities without being hovered over. I like this because Im independent, I like to do things on my own but still need someone around to glance and correct my posture during an exercise or should out Go Geraldine!
IF provides a really unique solution to the problem of needing regular supervision of physical training but not being able to afford a trainer every day. The 3 person trainings - available regularly - as well as the other classes (like the aerobic burns) provide plenty of supervision while building a team environment. Very reasonably priced and great trainers and fellow trainees. I have fun, have gotten results and therefore I highly recommend.
I was referred to Intelligent Fitness by my chiropractor who had been training with Liz to rebuild strength & mobility after a sports injury. I had torn my ACL/medial meniscus while snowboarding and was eager to rehab fully from the knee surgery. Since health insurance only covers enough physical therapy to get you back to work sitting chained to a computer, I continued with my PT exercises, but lacked the confidence to push my knee in physical exercise. Giving up snowboarding was non-negotiable – so I got in touch with Liz for a consult. In our first meeting we discussed the primary injury & surgery in depth, other minor injuries prior, and finally the level of rehab & strength-training I was interested in. In our second session, Liz measured my functional strength, mobility, and flexibility, as well as body-fat composition & heart rate. Based on these results we discussed short & long-term goals; and Liz got to work developing my first program which would be focused on strengthening the muscle groups supporting the joints. Within 2 months, my injured knee was nearly stronger than the non, and I was back to snowboarding every weekend. In less than a year, my present day program is focused on building functional strength I didn’t think I was even capable of.Intelligent Fitness is a program-based strength-training gym that is specifically tailored to its members. Liz measures your progress and customizes individual programs based on well-defined goals. In addition to the training sessions, there are weekly classes focused on mobility/stretching, and high-intensity internal training. Other perks include massage, nutrition, and cooking classes. The atmosphere is extremely inviting, encouraging, enthusiastic, and super-freakin’-FUN! Intelligent Fitness is definitely not a standard gym, and the exceptionally awesome members make it more of a community. Everyone is incredibly friendly & supportive which makes doing agonizing core exercises far more fun than they should be!
