I moved here in December of 2019 into a 2 bedroom apartment, and I have been very pleased with my living experience here ever since! Prices are definitely not cheap, but I feel they are very reasonable considering all the amenities (pool, gym, etc.) that come with the apartment and how well kept they are. Management and maintenance crews are very professional and responsive, and the community is very diverse and friendly. I had some issues getting a parking space in the parking garage in the first month I was here, but I feel the management handled it super well, and was doing everything they could. My one suggestion for improvement would be to have recycling and/or compost bins around the indoor and outdoor common areas. Other than that, its a great place in great location with a great community! Would recommend it to a friend any day!

Took a tour here as a potential tenant. I was shocked the rent is actually affordable. Great value with access to pool, gym, and parking. The application process is straightforward, and the staff there is helpful. If you have dogs or like dogs, this is a great building. Plenty of cool dog parents.

Its a friendly community to live in. The building is charming and well kept with a relaxing court yard and pool and gym. My unit is a good size with a good view. There is very little building noise. The laundry room has plenty of machines, so there is rarely a wait time. The mail delivery is great. I love Lake Merritt which is why I chose to view the apartment. Its been a pleasurable experience from the start. Stockwell is a real treat for a different amenity.

Im a big fan of this place. Im just so thankful for such a kind and patient staff who always listens to my concerns and does everything they can to make me feel comfortable in my home here. When I moved here 2 years ago I was nervous about living in Oakland but I felt good about the idea of choosing the Merritt on 3rd and theyve done so much to reassure me that this is just the best decision I could make, hands down. I love my apartment. I love my view. I love my neighbors. I love the safety. I love how close I am to everything (downtown, shopping, restaurants, the lake and BART).

I worked with Paul during my latest apartment search, and found him to be available, helpful, prepared, and very friendly. It was easy to be honest with him about what I liked and disliked, so the process of exploring and narrowing down the available options was enjoyable and efficient. He also served as a knowledgeable sounding board as I thought through important details like floor plan and length of lease. Finally, he has a very good sense of humor, which allowed me to feel comfortable at all times. The only reason I gave four stars (instead of five) is that I dont live there YET. I fully expect, however, that I will be returning to (positively) to his review to update my rating once I do. In the meantime, I highly recommend anyone looking for an apartment in Oakland to contact the Merritt on 3rd.

I am just absolutely just loving it here! Weve been here for about 5 years now and this are just really taking off! They Fixed up our windows with these really great new ones and they are just absolutely fantastic! We have a new Manager and front desk lady and I swear they have just been the most accommodating team weve ever worked with! The guy is pretty strict about the rules and Ill be honest, it took some getting used to. But I see what hes doing now and how its making things more organized and much better!

Living in a big building has its draw backs but the staff at 3rd in Merritt are exceptional. The maintenance staff are very friendly, helpful and punctual. The front office staff are also very friendly no matter how busy they get. This place has changed my view of living in a large apartment building in a very good way. - 4 stars

Update 1/15/2020: So I have to say Im feeling better about the team here at Merritt on 3rd. I personally think the new management has struck a good balance and communication has improved. The Washer & Dryers have been replaced, while I keep my expensive bikes in my apartment now, no additional break-ins to report. Improvements to the buildings are happening, and while I question at times the order in what the ownership is focusing on to maximize the quality of living here, Im happy to see things likes the pool room remodeled and tons of plants added.Things I would focus on:1. Updating the apartments with A/C or given folks the option to upgrade their apartments with A/C. The summers in Oakland are only getting hotter and hotter and the circulation in these units is horrible.2. Updating the apartments Heater Units. This is in fact the single most costly unknown factor youll experience once you move in. With the big beautiful windows each unit has and the concert walls, the cold air just comes right into your unit. Be prepared for electric bills to top $250-$350 a month if you run the wall heaters nightly. In the summer it will drop down to $25-$40 a month. There are no thermostats in each unit. No way to set the temperatures and walk away.3. No roof access - total waste. With all the new apartment buildings opening up with rooftops, Im shocked the ownership group doesnt lean into this with our high-walls on the roof and spectacular views. But all in all, the building is decent, and Im relatively happy, but I would happily pay for additional improvements to our units and building.---Update 3/30/19: Dryers & Washer still dont work and need to be replaced. Ive been told thats going to happen. The building’s security is better, but I keep my bikes in my apartment. I like the new guys at the front office. We will see if they actually deliver on promises.

Wish I could give 0 stars. Among other things (like never fixing anything and never doing anything they say they will do), we were locked out of the building. We are now trapped in our home because if we leave we will be locked out of the building. Our car is trapped in the garage. Why?Because management decided to change the key fobs without notice. When they first brought it up, we were out of the country. Despite that, we complied with everything ON OUR HONEYMOON. Literally sitting inside setting up VPNs so that we could get a google voice phone number in order to be able to get into our home when we returned. Then, after all that, they didnt change the fobs by the time we got back (even though they said they were going to...hence all the hoops we jumped through). After getting back, we were still never given new fobs. Nor was our newly acquired google voice number ever entered into the system (this is the second time weve tried, by the way--they never did it the first time either.) Suddenly, with no warning, they changed over the access to the new fobs. Again, without giving us ours OR implementing the google voice phone number access. Furthermore, they did this on a Saturday. And they are closed. Until Monday.DO NOT MOVE IN HERE.

I visited Merritt on 3rd twice this week while looking for a new place to live. The entire management team has been very helpful and knowledgeable about everything offered, amenities etc... Both of the units that I toured have pretty awesome views and I am seriously contemplating making this my new home.

Old management was terrible, current managers are just as bad if not worse. Good strategy by Graystar current management never has to take responsibility for past problems. Don’t let the luxury branding Apartment fool you

Worst place Ive ever lived and have rented in many buildings across the country including the Metropolitan in Center City Philadelphia and Gateway at Battery Park City in Manhattan. Some of the never-ending problems here include: privacy, locksmith, security, laundry, fire alarms, noise, dogs, etc. I wrote a full review of my experience on Yelp.
