I’ve lived in the uptown for almost a year now and this complex provides the best value for the price in heart of downtown Oakland. Great amenities including a gym, pool, and hot tub. Units are way more spacious than other complexes as well.I recently signed a lease for another year here, and Mary made this process very seamless and easy for me. She took time to understand what my requirements and priorities were for the search and when I finally found my perfect unit, she moved very quickly in helping me lock it down. Definitely the best experience I’ve ever had with a leasing agent!
I taught yoga here for two spring sessions and they were lovely experiences. The facilities are excellent, clean and airy with great light. Especially the common kitchen area off the swimming pool! The residents were also lovely and friendly and worked very well together. Even the kids who took my classes with their parents were focused and dedicated- and well behaved! The front desk person was always friendly, welcoming and helpful. And I look forward to teaching here again.
Weve loved living at The Uptown so far! The staff are friendly, the amenities are unbeatable, and our apartment feels spacious and comfortable. Definitely recommend!
My partner and I have absolutely loved living at the Uptown. In particular, I want to highlight our recent maintenance request experience that prompted me to leave this review.I reported my plumbing issues (clogged sink drain, and leaking pipe) on Friday evening, and Alex Whitaker picked up the request and fixed it Saturday morning! Alex gave us clear explanations for the issues, and told us how we could avoid them in future. He fixed the issues and also verified that the leak did not cause any water damage. I am thoroughly impressed by Alexs professionalism and work, and hope he picks up my future maintenance requests as well.
I spent 3,5 years in this community. In this time period the best thing was maintenance! Zachary Green was always helpful tracked every problem, followed up, our issues solved in max 12h. Great location, easy access for all Bay Area locations (bart station, highway connection, bus stop). Thank you all
Ive really enjoyed living here! Its a great location, the pool is a great amenity, everyone who lives and works here are super nice, and I love my apartment.
Do not move here this isn’t all what’s it’s cranked up to be the security steals packages and blame residents
I lived here for 3 years, and they were great. Yeah, its Oakland. You cant stop Oakland from being Oakland. But Zachary and the crew really do their best to make sure youre treated like a person. And you get your 1-3 packages a day ++ parking garage
I’ve lived in The Uptown going on 5 years now, and I really enjoy it. The people are nice, the staff is attentive and the apartments are modern and spacious. Happy to call this place my home :)
Lived here for 14 months and genuinely had a great experience (only moved for work). Excellent location, safe and clean, fair pricing (at least on my unit, relative to what I was paying for for way less space in SF). Would recommend. Management was iffy when I moved in but new management took over about a year ago and they are very responsive and nice.
I lived at the Uptown for three years and had a great experience. The units were nice, on-site maintenance and amenities were a plus and the staff was responsive. Albeit imperfect, the team made a conscious effort to improve processes over the span that I was there. Considering how many changes have happened over the years, I think the Uptown has handled the circumstances with grace and they really try their best to make their residents happy. I left on a good note and enjoyed my time there.
Love it . Very peaceful and comfortable. Very spacious . Easy to get around . No loud neighbors . Its just a relaxing state of mind here. Very safe. I just love the fact its so much space in the hallway, when you walk out its like walking out to a peace of mind.
I just visited a friend who moved here recently and the apartments are very nice and big, everything is very well kept and the pool is huge! Very impressed.
Living here is the best! The staff is top-notch and everyone is very friendly and nice in the community.Maintenance requests is handled quickly and efficiently.
This place is a hit and miss. The price is reasonable if you want to save on rent and its fairly comfortable as well. Package pick up is safe and secure. The staff really do try to help out when they can. Now the cons: if your call does not get to the person youre calling for, nobody will ever return your call so there is 0 point leaving a message. They are helpful but also probably stretched very thin and not very organized. If youre patient or dont mind asking a few times you will have it sorted out. If youre impatient and expect fast resolution you will be disappointed. Otherwise our stay has been pleasant! Just dont expect the Ritz
Been a great experience so far. Mary from the leasing office has been amazing and the staff is very helpful. Also loving the location.
Very rude when speaking to customers. Was trying to become a resident and they were very blunt and not helpful at all. I was very willing to have a conversation and they clearly were not. This new management company is by far the worst that Ive dealt with.Would rather be on the street than live in their establishment.
Their managers are not doing their jobs properly and never go to work. Every time i call them, they are having lunch or on the way to work.
Outdated appliances, hotheaded maintenance man, mediocre amenities (when they’re actually open). Do yourself a favor and find a different place to live. There are plenty of other apartments in this price range with rooftops that are also modern and at least pretend to care about their tenants. There’s also a police outpost here (for “tenant safety”), no air conditioning, and terrible soundproofing.Try Town29, Bell Uptown, ZO, 17th & Broadway, Essex, or literally any other apartment building.
I’ve lived here for almost a decade and it’s been a good ride. The neighbors are chill, some of the staff are nice, and the location is prime.
By the fox theater and friendsReply to Owner:Love the area, grown up over on Jackson and love there is a popping downtown that has lots of good people. You keep the love going!
The amenities are quite nice- the pool and gym are open late and accessible. Management is typically pretty unresponsive to issues. Any amenity that’s included in your lease may go out of service for an extended period of time- from pool and gym access to elevators. We lost gym access while living here for over a month. This wouldn’t have been a serious issue but we saw no rent reduction.Rooms are nice and either carpeted or tiled. Kitchen ventilation is terrible- a sautéed onion will smoke up the entire apartment. In unit washer dryer though!I would warn that the neighborhood is not nearly as “up and coming” as we were sold on. There were two shootings at kaiser park during our residency, one fatal. For the price, I would not recommend moving here.
The management is very slow at resolving issues. Elevators often doesnt work and maintenance is slow, doesnt anything usually gets resolved. The bathroom vents doesnt have fans, so if you have smoking neighbors, be ready to live in smoke filled rooms and all your clothes smelling like weed!Though the apartments are good and leasing process was much easier compared to going through a landlord. In general the management is quick to respond, but it is just talk, they dont do anything to get issues resolved, blaming contractors and upper management.
The management is good but this place is really getting weird. Every weekday at night (11 PM, sometimes 1 AM) some random people hang out in front of the building with loud speakers from their car. Weekends are even more unbearable. Sometimes people are fighting outside after midnight. Also, there was a murder in the park in front of the building a couple month ago! Sleeping is becoming a big issue here. We are considering moving out to a place which we can have a good night sleep. I do not recommend this place at all.
I really cant say anything bad about this apartment complex. Convenient, close to BART, Lake Merritt, bars, restaurants, etc, etc. From the reviews Ive read, people complain about high rent, management, security and maintenance. Well, rent anywhere in Downtown Oakland is high, its a reality. Management is fairly new and doing a fantastic job upgrading the building and fixing the issues with prior staff and building. Its night and day compared to the management they had prior!!!! Management is friendly and very accommodating as well. Instead of shying away until you have a bigger issue, say hi and chat with them, get to know them alittle better before forming an opinion. Security just changed over, so give it time and a chance. As for maintenance, Ive never had to wait more than 24-48 hours. The only time I had to wait longer was due to supply, they had to order materials which is nothing out of the ordinary. All in all, Ive loved living here the last 3 years and hope to stay a year or so longer until I move out of state.
My apartment is nice and the pool, hot tub, and gym are great amenities to have, but some residents treat the place like a trash can. Good news is maintenance cleans up fairly quickly. Very secure and lots of good food and night life in the area. Perfect location if you have an active social life. Very close to BART and the highway. I don’t care for the management or leasing staff. Not sure if they hate their jobs or don’t like dealing with residents but I don’t find them genuinely welcoming. They are also not great at keeping appointments, at least not with me. Last thing to know, we get lots of car break ins on the surrounding streets so don’t leave things in your car.
Nice neighborhood good place to live
Best place to live around that area if it can get more work places and hang spots and restaurants would be so cool as it is already a good place to stop by when First Friday comes.
The fire alarms go off constantly, good luck if you work from home. Problems take forever to get fixed, like when dirty water leaking into the garage. Theyve lost my packages for weeks at a time. The management is often unhelpful in resolving issues. When I moved in, they forgot to do an inspection. They removed garbage cans from the property, which has led to litter becoming a problem. Residents hot box the stairwells. The elevators sometimes just dont read your key fob and you have to take the stairs. Amenities are unavailable for months at a time. Packages can take 12 hours or more after theyve been delivered to be sorted so you can pick them up. You cant copy your keys. Items have been stolen from my car in the garage. The list goes on. Just dont live here. Its not worth it. I wont be renewing my lease.
We are really disappointed at this place now. We have done graduation parties at this place before with the old management, with absolutely no problems. But this time after we reserved and paid for the patio space for my friends graduation, we were told that they double booked so the only space available for us was the kitchen space. We agreed to take the kitchen area, which we were told we could have upto 20 people. We got there on the afternoon of the party to decorate the place and have it ready before our guests got there only to find out, there were literally four chairs available for us to work with. When we asked for more, we were told we didnt say we have twenty chairs, we just told you that you could have twenty people. No apologies or anything like that. The lady (didnt get her name but she could be of an Indian descent (we were told she is a new manager)), with a very condescending and bad attitude told us there is a difference between 20 people and 20 chairs. Are you kidding me?! Where did you expect us to sit 20 people then. Common sense? We did not want to make a scene as we didnt want to mess up our party but after they gave away the place we reserved, they dont even tell us they did not have enough chairs at the day of our party?!We were forced to transport extra chairs from our church...More than anything, its the attitude of that lady that really bothered us. We paid for the place you gave away and this is how you treat your guests?! How shameful of you! I have worked in a similar position before, customer service is one of the most important things to keep people coming. The new management clearly lack it big time.Otherwise we managed to have a great time there. The night staff were nicer and more courageous, esp.after I told them what happened.
The Uptown has 3 pet-free buildings, but there are many apartments in each of them with multiple pets (let alone one), and management does nothing to enforce their pet-free policy. There is also enough dog poop and urine in the building common areas (garage, corridors and stairs) to make you think you are in San Francisco, and not Oakland. Even after multiple calls, no clean up is done.
Lived in a unit which had broken air vents in the bathroom. The management refused to fix the issue for 11 months. The issue is that air vents are all connected to apartments below and above your floors and if anybody is smoking weed inside their apartments my unit was getting filled with smoke.I have called the managers and emailed them several times, they rarely reply to the email and never picked up their phone or returned back the voicemails. One day the smoke inside our unit was so bad my wife was feeling very nauseous and had to taken to hospital and ended up calling the cops. The very next day the issue was resolved and the manager Patty returned the calls for very first time! The same happened on moving out, they never returned my email and voicemail notice left that Im not extending the lease if they are not ready to give any compensation for the 11 months in the smoke filled apartment. On moving out as if it is a revenge they slapped a $500+ fee for not giving them notice for moving out, on top of already deducting the $500 deposit. The management didnt even had the courtesy to ask me to pay the remaining dues (or the revenge fee) and they send it to a debt collector, who is threatening me if I dont pay that amount they are going to report to my credit!
Wow! I would love to get into one of these units they are Beautiful. All apt. Will have down falls but to have a gym and a pool and a theater room... Im in a two bd room house and ready to move to an apt.
Great location... Next to Fox Theater and amazing ice cream shop connected to this complex.
Nice area of Oakland, good resturants and bars within walking distance. Good spot for a party with friends.
Delicious food, cozy seats. Beware it can ve pricy
COVID Update: Fire alarm problems mostly seem to be resolved now, yay! Now onto the other stuff. We’ve been paying hefty rent with no access to facilities and what not, due to COVID. That’s to be expected, but the apartment is definitely NOT worth what we’re paying now. Good news is that prices are lower for new people coming in. Bad news is it’s still expensive for people already living here. Their measly attempts to “help” each other out during COVID have included passing around a single roll of toilet paper a couple weeks ago, well after the toilet paper crisis was over. They did give us microwave popcorn and some Twizzlers. I guess that was all they could afford with the extra $400-600 they’re making every month off current tenants. Long story short, they’re just another investment company looking out for themselves, which is exactly what I’d expect in the current economic/political climate. *high five Uptown team*Previous Review:This apartment complexs fire alarms go off ever other week, usually at night. No meaningful effort has been put into security around the building. The cost of rent simply does not justify the headaches Ive encountered living here.Update 12/21: Yet another fire alarm. Ive never lived in a place that has this many issues.Update 12/26: Fire alarm goes off again.Update 1/16: Another fire alarmUpdate 4/5: We almost made it 3 months without an alarm, thats got to be a record! But alas, fire alarm went off again.
My daughters gave me a surprise birthday party here loved it nice place
Always liked viewing nice apartmens.
After a big jump in rent prices, then they cut back on staff. I had to wait over a month with a lot of run around before anyone got around to fixing a broken mailbox.
Great location in Oakland
Nice location and the places are nice
This place looks like from the outside and Im sure its even nicer inside but I can only imagine what the rent is you going to pay the price to be the boss
