The review I will write concerns both the Newport Beach, CA and Ontario, CA locations. My rental reservation number from Ontario, CA is R18497-ONTI would rate this lower then 1-star if it was possible.We made reservation for Chevrolet Express 15 passenger van several months ago to be picked up on 06/27/2021 - 06/01/2021. After I provided my credit card information to weekend manager in Ontario location, Andres (at the time he sported a ponytail), we went out to drive the van home to pack up the family and head to a family trip to Yosemite, CA.While inspecting the van with another employee named Arturo, we noticed the van had some physical signs of damage on the exterior and the interior was very dirty and seat belts had grime on it. Since it was too late for us to get an alternative we decided we had very little options but to go along with the van, as dirt, grime, and exterior damage was not a safety issue. Or it least we thought it was not.As we were driving out the van from the parking lot we noticed the alignment on the van was so bad that steering wheel at 45-degree angle in its normal position. We informed Andres right away about this situation and he informed us that he will call a shop to get the alignment corrected.While waiting for Andres to tell us the ETA on correcting the alignment of the van a thought came to my mind. Normally, wheel alignment of a vehicle regressive overtime and not all at once. So would not any other customers previous to us would have noticed how bad was the alignment. My concern was that the alignment was symptom of something more serious, an accident. We told this concern to Andres and he said he will inform the shop that will do the inspection on the vehicle.Andres told us that he had a Pep Boys in Ontario inspecting the van. After few hours we reached out to Andres and he told us that Pep Boys have confirmed my worst fear and the van was involved in a COLLISION which resulted in major misalignment of the wheels.Needless to say this shocked us that a business would have such a lack of due diligence that they would be willing to rent damaged vehicle which would risk the lives of my family! Not to mention we rented an Airbnb from 06/27/2021 early evening and lost almost entire night thanks to United Auto Rentals legal negligence.Andres gave us an option: to wait until early part of the evening when another van would be due in and we can in-turn rent that vehicle. Due to their extreme negligence I, personally refused to rent the vehicle from them. I asked Andres to cancel my reservation and additionally asked him to give a discount to the other van that my brother-in-law was renting from Newport Beach, CA (Reservation Number: R42506). Initially Andres stated he would request the general manager to give us the discount on this van. However, once we came back from the trip we realized how much financial and emotional damage United Auto Rental caused us, we wanted to have them fully refund the cost of the van my brother-in-law rented from Newport Beach, CA.Not only did we NOT get a discount on the van we had to keep, rented from Newport Beach, CA but the manager at Newport Beach location told us he never received a request to get a discount on the other van. This is something that Andres said he will do.As a legal negligence of United Auto Rental we have experienced the following financial losses:We had to book another vehicle on same day that we had to pay more than double the price of United Auto Rental vanWe lost a day worth of our Airbnb which was worth $1k/nightAnd most importantly they rented us a vehicle that had collision damage without doing any sort of inspection on the vehicle.For all this we will be seeking legal advice and getting punitive damage from this company but my main purpose is to warn everyone about this company and tell them to stay away from them!
Sid is the best! Customer service beyond and goes the extra mile, pleasure using this company and will definitely be using again for all my needs as well as recommending to those i know. He is a class act guy and not sure if a manager or the owner or what but an asset to this company hands down!
I give 1 star only because I have to. I was speechless when I called Tuesday morning to let united know I was on my way to pick up my reserved cargo van when the person on the phone said, oh, um, nobody called you yesterday? I said no . That is when I was informed that my vehicle was not available as it was not returned . I asked for something comparable and was told that they had nothing available. I said, nothing??? What about another location, a pick up truck, mini van etc? They said nothing available. I explained that I had a motel reservation and movers reserved in Monterey which are non refundable if I cancel this late. They phone went silent...I didnt know what to say!!! Apparently neither did they. I tried calling everywhere over the next couple of hours in Orange County . Nothing available for that day. I called United back and asked them if they had any type of vehicle that I could transport some cargo in and was offered a small SUV at higher milage cost per the manager . Then after much debate Jordan, the CSR, got the rate down to be equal to the cargo van. Unfortunately it ends up I couldnt use that suv as it was much to small This type of customer service is unexcusable. The manager showed no care or concern for the monies I would be losing due to their mishandling of my reservation. Jordan, the customer rep I spoke to was the only person who seemed to care at all at United Auto Rental at the John Wayne Airport. The manager was not willing to accept any responsibily for the mess that they caused me. The money lost, (over $700 ) or the time lost and frustration and panic I was experiencing due to their error was obviously easy to forget once they didnt have to deal with me anymore .... Soon as the phone call ended they were done with me. And got to move on with their day. I was nothing but a pain in the butt customer that deserves nothing .... Nobody tried to even compensate me for the horror that was now my day. Thanks United Auto....you will be forever in my memory and I do plan on sharing this with EVERYONE I know that rents cars and there are many.

Pretty solid value for the price. Two cars have been in there rented there had a bit of wear on them but were clean and a good operating condition. Although this recent rental the windshield wipers were totally shot.I would definitely run here in the future if in need of a vehicle based on price.Also was easy to reserve a car that met my needs in the office was not crowded and obtaining and returning the car real quick.
The people here are great! Amazing prices, cars are always in perfect condition and their service is outstanding. They are right down the street from the John Wayne airport. They have a shuttle service to pick you up and drop you off. Guys are always friendly and greeting with a smile.
Excellent service, I arrived early from a flight and they were extremely accomidating. Excellent rates as well, as I am 6 months shy of 25 and was looking at paying 75% more with any other company. Car was clean and newer model as well. I will absolutely use this company for future SoCal travel.
We had THE BEST experience renting from United. Jacob picked us up at the airport and took us back to rental shop, offered us water, use of the restrooms, etc. He was extremely polite and personable the entire time. He even played along with my 4 year old daughter pretending to make soup. We were taken out to look over the car. The young man was very thorough and wanted to make sure we did not get discharged for any previous damage to the car. The car was clean the service was great. I couldnt ask for more. This was our first trip to San Diego. Jacob made sure that it started and ended on a good note. He is an outstanding young man. They will be our go to rental shop in San Diego from now on. Dont bother with the big companies who could care less. You get way more than your moneys worth with this United. Thank you!!!!
We were very glad to find United Auto Rental at such a discount compared to many other quotes. Not only did we save money, but the staff was available to answer phone calls. They even came to pick us up when our flight was delayed. The car was a one way rental. Drop off was equally easy! We felt the CS was excellent. The car itself was clean and in great working order. Plenty of room for our large group and the luggage. I highly recommend United Auto Rental.
Horrible. Vehicle upon pickup was dirty and rear window didnt work. Got a call from Tom 8 months after the rental return stating I had to pay toll fees since they needed to register their car. 8 months later they charged my card out of the blue. Beware these shady people and their practices. Also, Tom believing it is acceptable to talk down to customers. I guess its okay with them since theyve already decided to charge my card, customer service is not needed anymore.
The staff was nice. This could be my fault for not reading all the details but I wasnt ready for the $350 deposit. I am very thankful they accept debit cards though.
These guys are gold in an industry riddled with fools gold. Prices are the cheapest and for the quality you get, youll be impressed. Best part was we didnt have to transfer our 3 car seats, stroller, and bags to a shuttle. They dropped us off in the rental we used. There is a deposit at the begining that gets released quickly after youre through with the car. All in all, these guys are fantastic! Thanks for making our trip that less stressful!The Stricklands
The staff at United Auto Rental knows how to provide a professional yet friendly and personal customer service. I had a personal difficulty due to my credit card; and they were able to provide a creative way to allow myself and my family a much needed car. In the midst of our weary travels, these prompt professionals gave us the assurance that some of the Bigger companies could not. I would highly recommend their services over any other car rental agency; as a small company they offer a lot of Personal service in a very big way, giving them a definite distinction when compared to the rest. My experience with United Auto Rentals was excellent. The reason I booked with them in the first place was their prices were so much better than the big name car rental companies. The only minor problem we had was they ask you to call them when you get your bags and then they come and pick you up. We had to wait longer than expected, but one of the employees called to let us know and apologized. The staff was all very friendly and helpful. We will definitely use United Auto when were back in Orange County.
The price was right and the service was great. We were told to call the business upon our arrival in San Diego. The representative came and picked us up at the baggage claim area, and drove us to their office. We kept the car that we were picked up in which was very convenient (we did not have to transfer our bags or car seat/child to another car). The car was not the newest or cleanest, but it was fine for us. Drop off was easy as well, and they dropped us off at the terminal. Traveling with a toddler and luggage could not have been easier! Great rates and honest people who provide fantastic service. They are very prompt and helpful when you need to be picked up from the airport. The car was good although it wasnt in perfect shape. Make sure you point out everything before you leave and fill up before you return. I cant wait to use them again!
I used United Auto Rentals this summer during a vacation to Orange County. They picked my family up at the airport when we called them. Once at their office, it was apparent that they were quite busy. They were out of the car class that I had reserved, so I was upgraded. The car was nice enough and I appreciated them honoring the rate they promised.Some concerns I had were:First, since they were busy (I assume), the car was not full of gas. They told me to bring it back with the same amount of fuel in it. Not having worked with this company before, I was not comfortable doing this since my return flight left before their office opened. I asked them to fill it, so I could return it with a full tank and remove all reason to haggle over if it was really the same amount of fuel or not.Second, a substantial dollar amount was placed on hold on my credit card in case damage was to happen to the car. I was not familiar with this practice and since I would be returning the car before the office opened, had concerns that this might be a convenient way to create additional revenue by finding damage on the car. The car was nice, but older and had a lot of damage here and there. I went around the car with one of their employees and detailed all damage I could find.Third, I was asked to leave the car in a specific parking location with the keys in it at the airport. The car I had uses a fob to activate the ignition and locks. When the fob is laying in the car, it was not possible (that I could figure out) to lock the keys inside. This is normally a safety feature.After all was said and done, the rental experience went well. The hold amount was released from my credit card and the rate I was promised was all that I was billed. And, no one stole the car before United picked it up.
I rent from this company because they take care of their vehicles and especially their customers. I usually receive a well maintained rental thats brand new. The prices are fair and an added bonus, I can leave my car in a LARGE PARKING LOT not on the street. Very convenient for me.
As I was preparing my first trip to California, I knew I need to rent a car. My immediate family had recently traveled to Atlanta, GA and we had a terrible experience with the car rental service there. With that in mind, I knew I’d have to research car rental options. After reading a lot of great reviews and comparing prices, I decided to go with United Auto Rental. This turned out to be a great decision.United provides free shuttle from the airport to their business (less than 10 minute drive.) I called them as soon as I got off my plane and the driver was there in 10 minutes. Caesar not only picked me up but he also helped me finish up my paperwork before I got into my rental. He was kind, courteous, and professional. He was thorough when he inspected the car for scratches and bumps. The car they provided was totally clean on the inside and a really nice ride. If I ever returned to Orange County area, I have no doubt that’ll be contacting United Auto for a rental service.My only suggestion would be for more clarity regarding before business hours car return. Their system is good, but I was confused about WHERE to return the car at the airport. If someone explained that structure B2 was in the upper level/self parking area (not on ground, rental car entrance level) that would have been more helpful. That is all. Thanks again!

Pick up, drop off, convenience, family friendly, the list goes on!Best Prices Ever! As a price comparison car rental shopper, United cant be beat! And unlike the other rental facilities, they didnt try selling me things I didnt need.Nice Vehicles! I have always received a very car car- clean, low miles, well maintained. If you are traveling to OC, San Diego, or Ontario CA and need a car, I would highly recommend calling United!
The overall experience was good. The pick up and drop off were timely. The car was clean and new, and the staff was courteous. The one area that was frustrating was I needed to have proof of insurance with me. Since I dont have my personal car wit hem I did not have this information on me. The staff would not move forward with the rental until they contacted my insurance company. This is somewhat problematic at 8:30PM. Also, when you arrive at night and you are focus on getting to your hotel, this delay becomes an irritating step. I would highly recommend to the company (Black and White at LAX) to put this information on their web page so you can prepare for this detour in the norm when it comes to car rental. I have never been asked by the many car rental agencies to show proof of insurance.

DO NOT RENT from this rental company. I rented a car on line with. total of $250 with Unlimited Mileage for four days. Sound pretty good deal. On the pick up day they told me unlimited Mileage is for people with boarding pass not for local people. Do you know what happen if you treat people differently base on where they come from. it si call discrimination. This is a Civil Rights violation. I end up paying $200 more for extra mileages. The guys over the counter even told me all other car rental companies are have the same policy. That is biggest BULL ever. I am season treviler and rented from every car rental company not one has that policy. Call and ask other rental companies for yourself. I could cancel one the day I pick up my car, but 7pm at night and I am leaving 5am next day where I can find another car. That is exactly what they prey on you. Please do not use this company. My story is true I have all the receipts and email to prove my side of story.
Not really nice experience with UNITED Auto Rentals Newport Beach. As per company policy you are allowed to ride 150 miles per day otherwise you have to pay extra money for each extra mile. So as far as we had to drive extra our final bill was much more expensive in comparison with good original rate which UNITED Auto Rentals provides. Secondly during returning car the staff (Tom) was not patient when we just wanted to clarify the charges had been applied although the representative during pick up was helpful. Personally wouldnt recommend this place to my friends and acquaintances

I tried to leave a positive review on yelp but they filtered >20 positive reviews and what remains are two very negative reviews.Anyway, their service was great. Not very far away from SNA and picked us up in 5 minutes. Their price was very competitive. The car was a little old (>30000 miles), but they upgraded our compact car to a full size sedan at no cost.
Absolutely amazing. We were a little worried since UAR was not one of the big guys, but they worked out great -- they picked up our family in the minivan we rented, let us get settled, and we were on the road in just minutes! Awesome!
Rented a 15 passenger van for an extended weekend trip to Temecula with friends. When I got home after picking up the van I had realized that the rear left side turn signal was out. I called and left a voicemail as they were closed for the evening.Next morning (Saturday) as soon as they opened I got a call (9am) from Cesar who worked with me to understand what he could do to help. As it turned out that prior to the phone call and prior to their opening a “check transmission” light turned on. The downshift was very abrupt and seemed atypical for the vehicle. I notified Cesar of this as well. After spending several hours of my morning going back and forth with Cesar on how to resolve this problem, he let me know a new van was heading out to switch out the one I had.Around 5pm on Saturday a new arrived thanks to Cesar! Well unfortunately this van had a check airbag light that was on.Fast forward to my return of the van. I notified the employee at the counter of this item as well and he said we would look at it. The supervisor at the time ( don’t know his name) came out and told me the transmission from the other van was fine and there was no problem. I then let him know as well about the airbag light and that it comes on after driving for a bit. He then proceed to grab the key and take a look. He then came back and said there was no issue/ no light on.Now I don’t think he went out to drive it because this took place in less than 2 minutes.This supervisor was very cold and had no interest in hearing my concerns with their POORLY maintained vehicles. Instead he just confirmed if I wanted the charge to the card on file or not.If Cesar didn’t provide such excellent customer service originally. This would have been a 2 star review.Thank you Cesar!!

Thank god for this place and their no underage fee. I finally found a place where I can rent and not have to pay $20 extra a day for being under 25. My first experience with them was excellent. I booked a midsize car online at a great rate and my car was even ready when I arrived 30 minutes earlier than scheduled.The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. I definitely recommend anyone with bad past car rental experiences to check this place out. I will rent from them continuously from now on.

Customer service was good. The vehicle i got was clean and performed well throughout my trip. My only complaint is the web site booked me for the vehicle and stated I would have unlimited miles. Once I checked in and received the vehicle I was informed since I was traveling out of the local area, I would be allowed 150 miles per day. Since my trip was scheduled to put about 800 miles on the vehicle over the course of 5 days, I was forced to pay a lot more than anticipated. I booked the car online for $120 and ended up paying well over $200 when I completed my trip. These costs should be disclosed at the time of booking in order for the consumer to be fully aware of the fees at the end of the trip so budgeting can be taken into consideration.

We book them through hotwire when we arrived they didnt have our car!!! Then he try and put me in sports car which was double our price and no unlimited miles like it said when we got the deal. Horrible service! Booked on kayak, they first tried to charge me $50 more than my receipt. Then they charged a deposit that wasn’t on my receipt. I was ok with that, at first. Read reviews people have said they never got deposit back.! Then rent tried to say I had mileage limit. After my receipt says unlimited mileage. It’s off airport in a little dinky office, DONT USE THESE GUYS! Scam artists.
When the rental car company I had originally made a reservation with had problems getting me a car and added several charges I found these guys and they set me up with a rental, set my mind at ease, and got me on my way to see my family faster!! From the time they picked me up at the airport till I was in the road was less that 10mins. I highly recommend United!!
Price and vehicle were outstanding. The only downside was their hours. I had to get a hotel room and stay night in San Diego prior to picking up the vehicle but even with the added stay it was less then competitors.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I had a paid reservation but when I arrived to the airport at 9:30pm they did not respond to my pick-up call. Tried over 40 minutes and tried there emergency number. Never answered my call. Found out they close at 8pm. Nothing posted on there website about that. They just totally left me stranded. Another rental car was $700 for 4 days because it was the busiest week of the summer. I would totally sue them if I were in San Diego but at least I can warn people that they are a terrible company and do not deserve your money.
When my car broke down I was sugested here by my mechanic. They sent a driver right away to pick me up and take me to the office where I was helped by Kevin and got my car in a matter of minutes! Very fast and kind service, and i got a great car and a great deal to boot!
We have rented from them for over 10 years. We actually bought one of their rental cars. They have always met and exceeded our expectations. Everyone there is nice and friendly.

I would recommend not renting car from United Auto Rental specially if you are flying from other city. I reserved the standard SUV on Dec 7th online and also confirmed with them by calling them after reserving the car. The day I landed on the airport I called them for pick up and confirmed again that I reserved standard SUV. They picked me up from the airport and when I got to their office they said we don’t have any SUV let alone standard SUV. They picked me up and brought me to the their office even though they knew they don’t have what I reserved and didn’t mentioned that once before I got there. I didn’t have option and I was with my family and kid so I had to rent Camry from them. It was a really bad start of vacation.

I took my 4th Grade class to Sacramento and drove a 12 passenger van. The rental was uneventful, clean, neat, and I had a good experience with the gentlemen in the office. I will use this company again next year.
Person behind desk was professional but chill. Walked around car and noted the previous damage on the car and wrote it down, wrote down the gas gauge (witch was not full) and told us to bring it back at the same level.Car was super fun to drive and clean.Waiting for our deposit to appear on our banking account and the proper amount to be taken out. If it doesnt show up in the next day or so I will be pretty furious.Otherwise fantastic service.
Very VERY poor customer service. Staff also appears untrained as to handling unexpected problems.We scheduled a rental from this place (against our better judgement) based on the rate and type of vehicle we wanted. Unfortunately, when we arrived to pick up our vehicle, the rate and mileage were not what we were initially quoted. When we questioned why this was, the young man at the front desk shrugged his shoulders, said we would have to wait for the manager to come in, and basically refused to look at us again.We waited until after 8:45 (about 30 minutes) until the manager arrived. We again told him our story and showed him our paperwork, and he had the gall the blame us for not understanding the quote fine print and that this situation was our fault, not his. Weve been given bad new before in other places and can understand business situations arise from time to time. However, we have never been treated so dismissively and with the level of disrespect we received from United Auto Rental and this manager. We also never received a satisfactory answer as to why this difference had occurred.Of course this didnt sit well with us. The rate difference amounted to an extra $280+, and now we had limited options to go to another company last minute.Needless to say, we went to national company to rent a vehicle and paid more, but there werent any bait and switch tactics, blaming for being unintelligent or treated by the manager as an inconvenience to his late morning arrival.I would advise anyone thinking about this place to do themselves a favor and patronize a more reputable vendor.
