These people quoted me $1,036.41 for 3 days. I asked if they took an arm and a leg. Never actually rode with them but with prices like that, i never will. I give 2 stars because she was very polite.
Super duper friendly and fast. The car works. Has a few lights that come on but who cares.
Waited a FULL hour in a long line. Only 2 people working most of the time. Each transaction took a very long time. Many came back with a problem immediately after getting their car and one guy came back 3 times. The agents did not seem to hustle and would sometimes walk away for a minute between customers. When we finally got up there, we told them we had our own toll responder, but we were told if it didnt work we would be charged $15 per toll. So we were encouraged to pay a $38 flat fee. We were renting 3 days but just using car to drive back and forth to airport. Driving yesterday, it was plain to see that even if responder didnt work we would be able to pay later...nothing about any penalties. They also had ys pick up our car in the Hertz area. We walked around the lot in the heat, not seeing it wasnt near the other cars. She should have said it was behind the bldg. I will NEVER rent from this Dollar Newark location again! Totally hirtible everyone in line was upset. Hope Dolkar corporate videos them!

Rip off now stranded at the airport cause I book and prepaid for a car but had to give an extra $200 to get the keys and had no credit card to do so. Now 8m stuck at the airport for 5 days till my flight back home.
It was quick and easy because we did everything online. The car they gave us was too small and we had to upgrade. But overall the service was good.
I arrived to the counter at 3:55 PM they close at 4pm.. it only took 4 mins to complete my paperwork.. the car I needed was supposed to fit 4 people.. i got a muscle car.. by the time I realized what I was given, the counter was then closed.. anyone who knows.. cameros and firebirds dont have leg room in the backseat.. 1 suitcase fit in the trunk.. the rest had to go in the backseat.. the passenger in the back was so very uncomfortable.. very, very disappointing.PS.. just to clarify.. the pick up was at the Westchester airport.. not Newark..

Horrible customer service at the airport. I made a reservation for a managers special because I did NOT want a tiny compact car and got one anyway!!!! To make matters worse, I was given a car thats had a disabled horn which is a safety issue!!!! It was a huge inconvenience and time taken away from things I needed to do on my trip to return the car. Then they wanted me to fill out an incident report that has wording that suggests the damage of the horn is my fault. I refused to sign it because that is not my issue thats THEIR issue giving me an unsafe car. All those hassle for a tiny compact car thats charging me $400 plus holding an additional $200 for a total of $600 out of pocket. My trip is officially ruined from this experience. I urge anyone with sense to never rent from here
Terrible customer experience with a forgotten item. I returned my rental and ran out because I had to catch the bus to Allentown, PA. In the process, I left my Apple AirPods in the cup holder. I realized this happened while on the AirTrain but nothing I could do as I needed to get this bus. Waited an hour for the bus and it never came. I decided to go back to Dollar to get me AirPods and get a new rental to make my drive to PA. The lady at the front desk had no sense of urgency in getting someone to grab my headphones from the car, and when they finally did, they were mysteriously gone. Literally an hour later and the car was still sitting on the lot. Someone in their staff obviously took them as they were clearly in the cupholder. The lady at the front desk was useless as far as what the next steps were. Will not be renting from them again.
Terrible experience with dollars billing practices. Upon returning from my trip they charged me an additional $204 in fees above what they quoted me. There was zero damage to the car and it was dropped off early. They also charged my a $90 administration fee for $12.40 in tolls. So nickel, dime and dollar charged me $294 over what they quoted me. Due to their deceptive, underhanded billing practices, I would never use them again.

My first time renting from here and my experience was great. It was quick and easy to pick-up the car I rented - none of the high pressure point of sale tactics that have become common. The agents Michael & Katrina was warm, relaxed and efficient. The car was clean and ready to go. I would definitely rent from them again.
They asked me extra $82 when I picked car up,and only gave me the car after paying that extra money. But I paid fully during online reservation.

Descent car service. The cars are cheap quality, but service is quick and not too costly for the rental.Would be great if they could offer the toll pass service fees for only the days ones uses it. Instead one has to pay the daily fee for the entire rental time.Overall run of the mill rental car company.
Really good return of our rental. A Dollar representative was already outside and while we unpacked she took a look around the car. Checked that we left it with over half of fuel in the tank and charged $50 for leaving the car in another place than picked up as is stated when rented.Think we did Dollar a favor looking at the queue of people wanting a car that day leaving it there 😀
I was at the Newark Airport Dollar Counter about a month ago. The young lady London With the brown wooden Earrings was very rude and stood on her phone while assisting me. She is the worse agent I have ever dealt with at any car rental. I’m a gold member with hertz and the agents there are always pleasant. The few times I’ve rented with Dollar I ended up with London. She’s always frowning and not helpful at all when asked questions. I hope she gets some form of retraining with her customer service skills. Management needs to really handle her before she gets handled by a customer.
Contacting their office, and their customer support is below acceptable. Dont trust them or their customer reps to assist.

Horrible service through the main number. I Had to call several times and still got nowhere. I was denied to speak with another representative or manager when asked and I was hung up on several times. The main number refused to transfer me to main desk at Newark. I need to extend my car rental only 2 days more... they quoted another $128 more when I paid $153 in total for the 4 days I rented. I asked for a breakdown of the $128 fee and they refused and again hung up on me. HORRIBLE SERVICE! I will never use Dollar again. They only thing they care about is taking your DOLLAR.

Pretty smooth operation. Reservation was made prior to arrival and choice of vehicles was easy and quick. Local directions were not readily available from Dollar Representatives.We also needed to transition from one vehicle to another which went pretty quickly other than we were required to go to the airport to accomplish this even though we kept the same vehicle.it would have saved a great deal of time and energy to have an able to accomplish the same thing over the phone or online!
We had a prepaid reservation on Memorial day and ended up waited over an hour to get to the counter due to the lack of staff for the holiday. At the time of arrival there were only 2 representatives working the desk and after waiting the hour, we were told it was going to be an additional 15 minutes before we could even get the car. We ended up canceling our reservation and rented a car from budget, who had us in a vehicle within 10 minutes.
Had a great experience. Rented a mid size SUV and the first vehicle didnt fit my kids car seats or stroller, but they had another mid size SUV with a little more space and bigger trunk that worked perfect. Yes to get the rental their was a long line, but they were busy and it moved pretty quickly. The representative was great and helpful. Didnt try to sell me on any extras. The vehicle was in great condition and drop off was easy and fast and the total was exactly what I was told I was going to pay. Will definitely use dollar for our next rental again.
Upon arrival, I was able to quickly get my car. The employee at the counter was friendly and was able to answer my questions. The car was in good condition and was pretty nice. Returning the car was quick and easy. The amount charged was what I expected based on my online reservation. I found their rates to be very good.

Left something in car upon returning it here and tried calling from the airport a few minutes later before boarding my flight but impossible to get connected with anyone at the Newark airport office. Was hung up on multiple times when someone would finally answer the phone at the rental desk line. Left several messages for the managers voicemail and never got a response. Left message for the lost and found line and never got a response. Submitted online lost-item-form with the exact location/compartment and car number where the item was left and never got a response. Very frustrating.
The service was great. The vehicle we got was awesome. The guy who assisted us with the rental knew so much about all the vehicles because he himself rents those vehicles. He was also very outgoing, nice, professional amx humorous. He was able to share a lot of info with us so we could make the best decision for our road trip, we were about to take. I hate that I dont remember his name but if I run into him again, I will be sure to get his name and update this comment. My Sister rented the Toyota Sienna by the way and we loved it.

Fastest service, friendly people, cheap rates and i love the fact that they give you the option to choose whether or not you want to pay for insurance(even though should you crash all the responsibilities are on you). Most other companies dont even give you the option they force you to take it. Either ways great service.
Very slow check in. Only 1 person in line and took 30 minutes to check in and another 10 minutes to get car. Employees move as fast as Slooths (IMO). Over charged for prepaid gas. Told me it was the going rate around the airport. However, one block from the rental pickup, gas was 40 cents a gallon cheaper. Advice, do not prepay for gas unless you want to pay high premium prices.
Dollar is a company that usually has the best price just not always the best vehicle. The employees are almost always friendly and helpful in my experience. When Hertz purchased them it seemed like Dollar was on the back burner as far as vehicle selection and quality. hopefully that changes as time goes by.
Worst service ever. No cars. Staff works as slow as possible. Long line. Couldn’t be worst. Folks spend a few USD more but to somewhere else. Budget for instance right next to Dollar has no line. BAD. 8 attendant spots. 3 employees. 30 people in line and no cars.
The rude, knowledge-deficient, and unhelpful staff at the counter couldn’t find a way around their policies to rent us a car. We went to a Hertz instead and got a better rate and more accommodating service. Uber cost the same price point for us to get to where we were going. Something to consider.If you’re a senior corporate manager for this location, I’d strongly consider restructuring your front of house unless you want to continue bleeding business to your competitors for poor customer service.
Smooth in/out of pick up and return. 24hr ustomer service. Will rent again. Also the big thing is. Dollar only takes 15%of total rental hold if you use a cc with visa logo. Thats big.
Word of advise, get the EZ pass charge added on so you dont need to pay additional admin fees on top of the toll booth fees. My tolls in total equaled 7.45. While there admin fees for that are not one flat fee but one per toll booth. 15 dollars per booth. Even if that booth was 1.50 toll. My admin fees ending up being 45.00. More than 6 times the amount of toll fees. Clerks also apparently dont know about Military personnel on orders get the under age 25 fee waived so now i get to deal with my superiors saying why the car rental was an additional 500 bucks. Friendly guy when i was dropping off car though.

Line was slow - we waited 45mins. All rental car companies are scammers, choose your poison, here are the scams that are run here:1. Toll responder costs something like $17 a day (doesnt include cost of tolls themselves)2. Additional driver is $13 a day3. Usual manipulative techniques to convince you to buy their insurance. Use your credit card insurance, keep saying no and remember that all these guys are pros at making you feel like you are taking a big risk not buying their expensive insurance.
The line to get your car is so long. The counter people work super slow. They need to get faster computers or something.

The associate at the counter, London was wonderful. she has a great smile and very professional about the service. My flight got cancel due to weather and I decided to drive instead of waiting for the next available flight. London was being very attentive and able to arrange a car immediately for me.

Avoid at all costs! We didnt even have a chance to rent a car before being frustrated Due to impending weather, we adjusted our flights to arrive a day earlier. We originally rented a car using hotel points and were told by the hotel to contact Dollar Rent A Car to make adjustments in extending our rental. Dollar Rent A Car sent us back to the hotel vending. When we called them back to inquire about paying for the additional day out of pocket, we were given an explanation of their wasteful practice. We were told that we could rent the car a day earlier but would need to return it the next day only to re-rent the same exact car for our initial four day rental. I asked how this made any sense and was told that this is their policy in closing one reservation and opening a new one. There was no empathy in the extra time that would take or the redundant procedures, just that it was their policy (having worked at a rental car agency, I understand policy, but I also understand ensuring customer satisfaction). After this long drawn out conversation, we were told that there were in fact no cars available to rent and re-rent. The customer service we received at both the field location and the corporate office was absolutely terrible.

People, never, never deal with them. Everything will be much more complicated and expensive than expected, than they promise you. First of all you will call them 3 or 4 times to find them, they will hang you out. Then they will give you dirty old car, the same car they will rent to someone else. They will charge you extra and extra, and in the end they will send you a bill to pay a toll you already paid.Dont even open your wallet for them!

Usually a long line, but what else do you expect from an airport rental car place. Friendly staff for the most part, havent had a problem so far. I have used them 3 or 4 times. I dont even check prices anymore I just go straight here. The cars were always in great condition, and returning was always super fast and easy. Plate pass is very expensive though.

Our rental experience with Dollar was excellent. Although we arrived at their counter in the wee hours of the morning, our customer service rep, named Vance, treated us as if we were family related. We feel fortunate that he helped us with the return as well, giving us expert, yet quick and efficient care. Certainly well use Dollar again for our next rental.
1) We arrive Sunday late night after a flight from Europe and the car was not ready and was not going to be ready for another couple hours. I would have just cancelled the booking but I prepaid it so we just spent a night in a hotel and pick up the car in the morning2) The two front tires were excessively worn, I posted some pictures3) The staff was not helpful in resolving none of the issues above4) I got charged for seven missed tolls from locations where I was not at the time. I am trying to dispute this now but they want a proof such as a receipt, which I have to spend time to look up or might not even have anymore (the notice of charges came about a month later)
Poor customer service. Offered EZ Pass which ended up not working - had to pay out of pocket at toll booth. Would not refund at end of rental. Was promised a follow-up e-mail to resolve payment issues - never came. Had to wait on hold with national customer service to receive a reimbursement. Would recommend paying a bit more to receive better service at another carrier.

I have just used this company for a car, I ordered two baby car seats as an additional cost. On arrival after a 8 hour flight with a 7month old and a 3 year old they would not help with the fitting of the baby seats as they said they would be liable. Then just walked away and left me to figure out on my own in the dark. I was not asking them to fit it but just give me some guidance to make sure i installed correctly and safely. They were not interested and walked off. I then went to the counter to ask for help, he then called through to the rude gent that would not help me and asked him to assist. To which his response was get someone else and ended the call. Horrendous customer service, took me over an hour to fit them and i could not tell if they were in correctly. Surely they have a duty of care to make sure they are fitted correctly if they charge for them. After this experience i would certainly NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.
Car Agent refused to hand over the car! When we arrived after a long journey at the car rental I noticed that it is about an automatic car. I have asked very politely if I can not have a switchgear, because I have not had any experience with automatic cars. First a certain Mr. Oskar told me that it would cost $ 50 more a day if we were to take a car with a manual gearshift. Then he showed me how to use the car. When we told him that we prefertake the switch car, although it should cost almost double, there were all-New Jersey only automatic cars. When we told him that we then take the car, he refused to give it and ordered us a taxi, because he could not take responsibiliy if something happened to us. I could not possibly reverse my reflexes to switch from manual shift to automatic. Then we drove around for 3 days by taxi, bus and train. Which cost us around $ 300.On the fourth day I rented a car in Ridgewood, New Jersey for one week and gave it back safely. Als wir ihm sagten dass wir lieberden Schaltwagen nehmen, obwohl er fast das doppelte kosten sollte, gab es in ganz New Jersey nur noch Automatikwagen. Als wir ihm sagten dass wir dann den Automatikwagen nehmen, hat er sich geweigert ihn zu geben und hat uns ein Taxi bestellt, da er nicht verantworten könnte wenn uns etwas passier. Ich könnte unmöglich meine Reflexe umpolen um von Manueller Schaltung auf Automatik umzusteigen.Dannach sind wir 3 Tage mit Taxi, Bus und Zug herum gefahren. Was uns um die 300 Dollar gekostet hat.Am vierten Tag hab ich mir in Ridgewood, New Jersey einen Automatikwagen für eine Woche gemietet und ihn heil wieder zurückgeben Absolut unfreundlicher Service bzw gar kein Service whatsoeverNICHT empfehlenswert !
Awful experience. We booked online, but when you get there, they drum up all sorts of other charges - felt like we were playing a shell game. They charge you extra for virtually everything and tried to sell us insurance that would cost more than the rental, but luckily our credit card covers auto rental insurance. We were given a filthy car because their car wash was not working. It was impossible to see damage due to the road dirt. We noticed the windshield wiper had fallen apart as we were leaving. They couldnt fix it so we had to fill out new paperwork for a different car, and unload/load all of our luggage plus children plus car seats. In all, it took us about 3 hours to get out of there. HORRIBLE experience. They didnt seem to care. At least 5 other customers were very upset and complaining about incompetent service. These people do not care about their customers and they try to shake money out of you whenever possible. Awful experience - do not use.

Dollar dollar bill yall dollar dollar bill. It will cost you a lot more than that to rent a car from this place oh, but it was pretty easy to get the car. Newark Airport sucks though and getting from the airport to the rental car facility is a journey onto itself. You should get a map before you make the journey, it can be a perilous one, and unless you have Indiana Jones with you you might be in for a world of hurt
I highly recommend Dollar!! Speed service and great customer service skills. I was given a nice upgrade into a luxury car at a very cheap rate! Word of advice I highly recommend their coverage! It saved me while my car got damaged in a parking lot! The coverage that your credit card/expeidia/hotwire etc dont usually cover up to the full value of the rental car. And also credit cards DO NOT cover 3rd party liability! I had to that learn the hard way :( they offer a liability package! Save your butts!
The car ran good without any problem. The salesman said I have to bring a receipt within 10 miles of the airport showing the gas tank was filled else they will charge $ 10 per gallon. Selling road hazard and collision insurance along with pre-paying for full tank of gas was aggressively marketed and pushed upon. Wasnt communicated in the most polite manner. Dollar Rent a Car wont be of my first choice going forward.
This location is run by criminals.I like dollar rental in general but this location has a criminal element to it.I was there on the 28th of May-all flights canceled due to thunderstorms. Went to rent a car and they bumped their rates to $457 for a day and they said they had a rental (no joke, the price gauge when there are issues at the airport. )Bumping their rates 400% or more because people are in need is a deplorable practice, shame on you dollar rental!Went online and was about to rent a car for $120 but the manager said to me and the person from cx service that he actually had no more cars and I could try to wait a couple of hours (they just told me 2 minutes before that they had a car for $457)I went to budget and similar story except I booked online first for $137 7 minutes later I overheard them at dollar rent a car for $300++ and they had a car.Dont trust this location, book online first then go if you dont want to get ripped off.The corruption at this location is from staff and management so asking for a manager will not help you. I would advise to stay away at all costs.

First off the car was parked all the way touching the wall when I arrived and had a big scratch and dent in the back after I had pulled forward to just load my luggage in.When I dropped off the car on a Sunday morning no one was there to receive the car.. after waiting for a while and under the pressure to catch a flight we proceed to go to catch the shuttle.. little did we know that the sky train was not working... at least they had bus shuttle but after waiting for about 7 minutes on the bus, it did not even stop.. 2nd bus the same. I went inside to talk to dollar and they told me sorry he can do nothing about it and he is just one guy there... anyway long story short, we did not make the flight and it turned in a big mess...3 days later I had to call for a receipt and they told me that the car is still shown as rented and used by me?? how I am on the other side of the country by now... big hassle to just make dollar do there job...I am renting with them now over 3 Years and never had this issues with them :(

We payed for everything online. We get through the mess of the airport and to the rental place. Only to find out I still needed to pay an extra $450 on top of what I already paid. $200 for a security deposit and $250 for the car. I ended up paying $646 for this car. Never again...

Bad service we had a Flat tire witch we filled up at the gas station. Then we went to Dollar to change the car. Yes we got another one that was no cleaned and the tank was 1/2 full. But the best thing was that they have the car with the flat tire the next Customer... I will never ever rent another car with Dollar rent a car...
Super easy pickup and drop off and Newark Airport. We rented a Nissan Altima and the car was very clean and really nice to drive! All the employees were helpful, friendly and very accomodating especially Ed at the drop off. Will use Dollar Rental in the future.
As a Dollar Member and frequent flyer to NY I expect great service as other airport locations. Unfortunately the staff here is at the lowest level of Customer Service. Loud, unhelpful and the parking lot is like a trash dump. Had a defective car and they technically refused to assist me.
