I won’t be renting with AVIS again. It took me over an hour to get my rental when I arrived. When I got the car, the tire pressure on all but one of the tires was way too low so when I ended up hitting a pothole, the tire blew. It took AVIS’s roadside assistance so long to try and get someone to me to change the tire, a cop came by and called the local roadside assistance for me before AVIS could even find anyone. After I got the spare I had to go put air in all the tires myself. Also, the toll box in the car was faulty. I was told to keep the box closed when I go through tolls so it wouldn’t scan at toll booths and I would have to pay cash, but almost every toll booth I went through, it got scanned with the box still closed. So be prepared to have to call customer service to get your money back for any tolls you incur while you have the car.I honestly wish I spent the extra money to use Hertz or Enterprise instead. If you can avoid it, I would use a different rental car service.

In 40 years of renting cars, I have never been given a car with 62,000 miles on it. The car was worn. The right rear quarter panel was scuffed. The drivers armrest had the finish all worn off of it. The interior of the windshield was not well cleaned so when driving into the sun later in the day, there were large areas of glare. The high beams did not appear to be working. I expected more from a large national car rental firm especially when it cost me over $1000 for a 3 day rental. If we had not been in a rush, due to a late flight and trying to get to a funeral on time, I would have gone back in to request a different car considering there were plenty on the lot. The car ran well and got us back and forth so I will give 2 stars.After a polite but ineffective response from Avis socialinfo customer service, Ive dropped the review to 1 star. There was no admission to the condition of the vehicle, only that they keep renting cars up to some unspecified number of miles, implying to me at least that condition did not matter. When I rent a car, I expect it to be in good enough condition that I would consider purchasing it if I was looking at it as a used car. I do not expect a worn out interior and scuffed up body.When I respond to a request for my opinion on the rental, I do not expect to be told that I could have gone in and complained and asked for another vehicle. I had already stated clearly in my review to Avis that we were late for a funeral. Do you really think I am going to walk into the church and say, sorry for being late everybody, but I thought it was more important for me to get a reasonable car versus being here on time for all of you?

The woman working the counter at EWR was outstanding. Calm, helpful and steered me to a Toyota Sienna hybrid van rather than the Chrysler van I wanted and wasnt readily available. The Toyota was actually superior and very useful for our trip to Vermont.

Flight was delayed by 5 hours. The agent on the phone was empathetic, professional and helpful in explaining that they were holding my reservation for me. When we arrived at the rental center it was late! The entire crew was mindful of the fact that they were dealing with weary travelers and made the process fast with a very friendly demeanor. Hats off to the crew in Newark! Well be back and forth quite a bit and well be sure to use Avis again.

Even though the line was long when I showed up to pick up my car, it went pretty quickly. The woman who assisted me was by far one of the nicest people I have encountered in a customer service position. So polite, helpful, and cheerful (really wish I could remember her name, she was awesome!!). Dropping off the car was also a seamless experience.

Excellent service when we rented the car in Newark, NJ and when we had to extend the rental time, the entire process was easy to accomplish. When we had to drive the car back to our home town, to be dropped off at the airport, the drop off process was wonderful. We even received a discount from the price quoted.It was such a surprise and delight and I would recommend AVIS to everyone.Thank you AVIS for making a nervous and otherwise scary experience such a pleasure.

Great at drop off at EWR. Terrible at Union Station in CT. Car was half full of gas. Had to change the contract. One guy doing everything. Others came by. Didnt help. Car was awful.

Mainly its just the price. Literally any other option is better than car rentals these days. Also, I was charged for fuel despite agreeing to fill the tank. Luckily that error was caught and fixed, but the bill is so complicated and I was so tired from the trip that I did not feel good walking away from that. And for what I paid, I really ought to have been walking away on a red carpet with a free coffee in hand.

I had a really good experience at this Avis. Efficiency was the word of the day. They dealt with me very promptly and professionally. I was in and out in just a few minutes with the car I needed, thats exactly what I need when renting a car. The person working the barrier to exit the lot was also really good and was joking with me as he dealt with me. Similarly returning was good and the employee that checked my car back in was really nice and really efficient (also checked I hadnt forgotten anything which is a nice touch)

I had to fly to NY unexpectedly. The agent at the counter was so personable that he was able to deduce that I was there for a funeral. Not that his customer service wasnt already paramount... but, his professional empathy increased exponentially! He turned a very somber situation into an extraordinary interaction. I was so happy to have met him and received the extraordinary service associated with the AVIS brand.

There was only one helpful staff at the EWR Avis location. The rest either doesnt care and dont bother to explain.Me: how much does it cost to pre-fill the fuel?Staff: its $30/dayMe: $30/day?! How much per gallon?Staff: its just $30/day.Me: huh? Im talking about fuel price.Staff: I dont understand what part you dont understand. When renting from Avis, vigilance is imperative. Good thing I kept my gasoline receipt and took a picture of the dashboard when I returned the car. I was later charged $95 for fuel when I returned the car with a full tank. The reason: the negligent representative didnt bother to look at the tank gauge or ask me if I filled it up. In addition, the onus was on me to prove that I put gas into the car. Wasted my time for the negligence your Avis staff.

Overall, my experience was very good. At checkout, the customer service person was very personable and quick. She was able to work with my desires. The biggest issue was not with a person, but with the billing system. I rented a Kia K5, which has a fuel capacity of 14.8 gallons. Somehow, it was registered as departing the airport with 15.8 gallons, which suggests that it was overfilled. I returned with the tank at 14.8 gallons and, as a result, was charge $9.99 for the missing gallon of gas. I did get the money back, but it took me 30 minutes on the phone.

I was able to reserve a car from my phone using the AVIS app and pick up my car a few hours later. Every charge was explained well and there were no surprises when I returned the vehicle. Fantastic experience and I will rent all of my cars from AVIS henceforth! Thank you!

I have to say that the ease of booking online and the level of customer service and how helpful the people on site were is absolutely OUTSTANDING. Everyone I dealt with truly went above and beyond the call with supreme friendliness!!! The reason why I had to rate this so low was that the car that we did get absolutely REEKED of smoke and smelly perfume. We didnt notice it initially as when we got to the car, the windows were rolled down. It was not until we got out of the lot and rolled the windows up that we realized it. As we were on a tight timetable, I did not have time to switch cars. My opinion is that it should not have been released for rental if it really was that bad. It should have been cleaned first before being released.

I have never rented from Avis before and the experience was just great. The staff was pleasant, and answered all my questions. I set it up online and went to the airport because that is the only 24 hour location I could find. My car was clean, ha been sign that said it was cleaned with Lysol and also fast. During drop off I met the manager Austin,also very pleasant. I will definitely rent from Avis again.

The customer service at this location is exceptional. Every employee I interacted with was a joy. It truly made my experience of renting a car because my car was at the body shoppe for 3 days an enjoyable one. I will definitely be renting from here in the future. Oh a couple perks were the rates were great and my car was brand new with only a couple hundred miles on it!! Love Avis and love this location!!!

The rental experience was smooth and easy. The AVIS Customer Representative name Claudia who we dealt with to rent the vehicle was outstanding, knowledgeable and professional. Claudia was charming, kind and nice. I certainly would not mind working directly with her for future rental. She made the rental process go very smoothly. Moreover, on the return, the Customer Representative name James, I think the last name is Hall was also very charming, kind and very friendly. The AVIS Rental overall was very very nice. Worst rental place ever..Check out a car took me 1 hour 30 minutes even after being a preferred Avis member. It is really very disappointing to partner with such unprofessional rental company.On top of this they even charged for refueling services when I gave them a car with full tank. Had to go back and get it corrected another 20 mins wasted.They definitely do not care if ur preferred member .. or not.With all this the least someone can expect was professional and they couldnt do that.Avoid renting here at all COSTS.Had three customers leave disappointed right infront of me I am not sure how many more are leaving like this.

When I picked up the car the windows were down, so I didnt feel the smell. Next day when I opened the car I was able to feel the smell of smoking. The next day was worst when the card was sitting on the sun 8 hours. Also, I know it was a mystery car, but the car was not clean, very dirty the top above the driver, the door has a burned cigarettes hole and the door of the passenger seat has hole as well. They looked like try to do some cleaning, but it was still dirty. It not worth it for over $ 700.00 rental. I will not choose Avis next time.

Rate was a little high, but overall I loved the SUV they gave me. I felt very safe in it, considering I was traveling in a very high travelled congested highway areas. Car was fully loaded with GPS which I hooked up my own and backing view which helped tremulously. Staff was friendly and helpful Rental had unlimited mileage which was also a plus!

We always use avis, and we love it is easy, quick we have all saved for us to just come in and pick up the car and get going, but this time we pick up the car it looked good, but once in the highway there was the protective plastic underneath lose making a horrible noise, we didnt go back to the rental because we had such a short time, is just something to pay better attention, we let the staff know so they hopefully do something about it, other than that its always clean, friendly staff and like I have said really quick and easy!

I rented a car at the Budget car rental at the Newark Airport, and they were out of cars so they sent me to get a car at Avis. Everything was going well until I got a Nissan Versa, ( was supposed to get a Volkswagen Jetta) but whatever, thats not the main issue. I picked up the car at night and got ready to start my trip. I drove for 2 hours and next morning, I look at the tread at the rear tires. It was completely out of tread. This is COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. I could have easily hydroplaned and crashed this car. This car would have for sure not passed state inspection, and there is no way that it is acceptable to rent out a car that is dangerous to your customers. I will attach a picture of the tread of the tires, and the front bumper was also sticking out. I have used Budget and Avis before at different locations and never had issues, but after this experience, I am completely frightened from renting from this company again. The cars wheel bearings were also making noise. I doubt Avis even does maintenance on these cars, because they drive horribly. I returned the car back at Avis, and spoke with one of the managers. He stated that I will receive a $50 dollar refund for the tire issue since it was unsafe, but I never received anything back onto my card. I am expecting a reply from you Avis, so you can send me that refund back. I would have not left this negative review since I dont like doing that, but since I did not get that $50s back and I dont like getting lied to, I have to do this. I am expecting a response from you ASAP.

Always get treated greatly when I book rental cars with avis at Newark international Airport. Theyve made picking up rentals a lot easier. Once I arrive at avis I go straight to the parking spot. The keys and documentation are already in the rental when I get there, making it easy for me to get in and out.

The car on my contract was not in the space indicated. There was no preferred service rep at the facility. The one rep at the desk was overwhelmed. Eventually she assigned me another vehicle. Upstairs. Broken or switched off escalator at the facility. Which was disgusting and filthy. 50k miles on it. Stained seats. Damaged center console. Foul smelling, masked poorly with air freshener. Absolutely unacceptable.

I prefer Luxury SUV, but the vehicle I reserved was a Wrangler Jeep which was available, only one discrepancy the sound system sucked other than that I was satisfied . I also made a mistake with the return time, which I would have been charged for an additional day, but the Avis agent waived the charges. I was very thankful for that and said thank you again. So this is why I would recommend a friend.

Terrible experience with Roadside Service. We had a tire blow out on Interstate 80. Wen we called 24/7 raodside service there was a 15 minute wait (recording with music) and then person couldnt find us in her computer. She was supposed to call us back, but never did. When we got someone once we had succeeded in changing tire, we were told to go to nearest airport and exchange car. Nearest airport was tiny and didnt open until 10 am. We ended up going to a tire dealer and paying for new tire ourselves.

If it would not be for Pepe (an employee on the lot) I would probably still be there.First 4 cars had bad tire issues. Like bad. Actual holes in tires. The 5th one had cracked windshield. The customer service team at the location was amazing. You rented me car that literally was in an accident marked with a yellow x which I didnt see at the time of pick up, a broken door, alerts for a needed service, wasnt clean, smelled like smoke, which you tried to cover up with air-freshener. a hole in the rug on the drivers side, without mats and b/c of the accident the trunk didnt close properly and rattled. My flight was delayed and was late arriving and left without having time to switch cars, but called from the road and there wasnt an option for Avis to switch the car only to return to the airport location.

The Manager at Newark Avis in New Jersey was the most unprofessional person, she was rude and implied that we were trying to get money out of Avis. It was very insulting. We will definitely file a formal complaint, so that no one else experiences this from her. She definitely shouldnt be the kind of person that tired travellers should deal with.

We needed to pick up our car rental on long weekend (4th of July) and when we came to this location just saw very very long queue of customers waiting to pick up their cars and what caught the attention was that there were only 2 representatives from Avis was serving customers, it took ~80-90 mins to just pick the car which was booked online and already paid for. Considering long weekend many people flying in/out out of 8-10 counters only 2 were operating doesnt make sense, this location should value customer time and look to open more counter(s) to serve customer based on the demands like long weekends.

I had no problems with the personnel at the service center. We got a flat tire going down the highway. Called emergency roadside assistance. Waited an hour before someone answered. Was told that I had to get off the highway. Next exit was 5 miles down the road with the flat tire. Called roadside service again and didnt have to wait to long. Said they would send a tow truck then Uber. Received text that the tow truck would be an hour. Called tow truck company an hour later, they said it will be longer. Called roadside assistance that the tow truck had arrived. Never did see the uber. Had to get one on my own after the tow truck arrived over two and a half hours after the original text. Arrived back at the service center to get a new car 6 hours after I left the 1st time. Staff was very helpful. Finally got something to eat for dinner at 1 in the morning. Emergency roadside assistance sucks

We booked a car from the Avis at Newark Airport (EWR) for a one day, short turn around. When we got there we were greeted by a wonderful customer service agent (I am so, sorry that I did not get her name) who guided us through the process flawlessly and sent us on our way!Upon returning the vehicle a gentleman (I did not get his name either ☹) guided us through the drop off and of the easiest way to get to our terminal.It was a pricey endeavor, but it was NJ, and in retrospect, worth the money for a Hassel free/pleasant experience!

Had the minivan that we needed and it was a reasonable rate. Eventhough there is no guarantee of a specific vehicle, the location was able to swap the Sienna (which would have needed the middle row seats to be taken out & stored somewhere to create the largest cargo area possible) for a Chrysler Voyager (stow & go seats folded into the floor) since we needed the cargo space to move our daughters belongings.

I picked up a car in a different location and dropped it off here. The person who greeted me when I returned the car was friendly and helpful. However, a few hours later I realized that I forgot items in the middle compartment between the driver and passenger. I tried calling the EWR location, but all the extensions lead to the national lines and it is impossible to be able to talk to anyone here. In the process of exhausting all the possible extensions, the people I spoke with were very unhelpful. One of the national representatives even said that they cant get hold of the agency either.

At Newark Airport only one employee was stationed to help people get their vehicles. We waited an hour standing in line to get our car. It was the worst service weve ever received. The employee was competent, but she did not acknowledge our wait nor project an air of cordiality. The one hour line was comprised of only 6 customers. Thats right. Six customers an hour! The car itself was excellent.

The car I rented smelled like straight cigarettes. The car was dirty. (outside and in)..there was a shake/ rumble coming from one of the front wheels ...and lastly I got a EZ but it didnt work. For the most part just an ok rental company. There was an extremely long wait to get our vehicle due to there being only one person at the counter. I requested a VW and got a Hyundai ! Go a class up not a class down. Satisfy the client if you want to get return business. Never received my deposit.. When I called back for my deposit, they said it takes 7-10 business days after returning to receive it... its been 2 months... the lady avis told me the bank has to release the funds. My bank said Avis is lying, my bank doesnt hold anything, they dont see anything pending, nothing. Now every time I call avis Im on hold for 2+ hours. Can never get a hold of anybody. I am furious. I will not recommend anyone to avis ever until I get my deposit back.

Only one person working Newark Airport car pickup/drop-off counter. Line wasl slow. The woman working was very helpful doing best job she could. My name wasnt displayed on AVIS Preferred board either. The car itself needed better cleaning. Coffee stains on center console cup holder. Steering wheel column had food particles on it too. Then the car I received only had 7/8 tank of gas. I am displeased by that. I told the gate attendant and she could only make note of not full gas tank on my receipt. She stated the computer showed the gas tank full. It was not. My wife has a photo for verify of the less than full gas tank. And I did return the gas tank full. I am disappointed with my AVIS experience at EWR Airport.

No communication, had to extend my stay due to record heat in the PNW closed the tarmac at the the air port and cancelled flights. Avis then price gouges me for 2 time the original price of the rented car. Very dissatisfied customer as things were only extended to to natural events that could not be avoided and a large company like this takes advantage... Will not rent with them again.

I took a taxi to pick up the vehicle. The taxy driver dropped me off in the wrong area. I was lost and I saw a staff member cleaning a returned vehicle. I explained the staff member my situation. He was super nice and transported me to the pick up area. I am very grateful for that. The pick up/return staff was very professional. The vehicle was better than expected and very clean. Thank you very much for the excellent service!

The attendant was very rude, did not answer our questions and when she thought she should answer, she sent her to look online. the car came with two super bald front tires. I wonder if there are no laws for these types of cases of rental companies, God guided me because if the car blew out the tire I would have suffered a serious or fatal accident, because the tires were the front.
