We credit Child Mind for changing our lives and helping us find the support and make the changes necessary to support our son and daughters learning challenges. If not for Dr. Phillips and the Child Mind Institute team we would still be floundering with at least one severely depressed child and not having our childs emotional or academic needs addressed. They even armed us with knowledge to better advocate for ourselves and our children. We are eternally greatful.

I was desperate for help for my son and so relieved when I found the website. Someone called and put me on the calendar for an evaluation time..and they never called. Im guessing it was because I started asking about their financial aid fund. So they dont want to be bothered with families who cant afford to pay out their exorbitant fees.

CMI doesn’t have any intention in helping your child, and especially NOT YOUR WALLET! Some say there is a price to pay for well established and highly trained medical care. Child Mind definitely makes you pay a high price, but then carelessly forgets to make an attempt at treating you (their patients). Even if you have the money, you’d be better off literally flushing it down the toilet or feeding it to the ducks in Central Park, not too far away.

The Child Mind Institute provides truly world-class care for children. If you have concerns about your childs mental health, I would highly recommend making an appointment! Check out the website, too, there are lots of good resources there for parents.

Full disclosure, I work here. But one thing I am sure many families will back me up on is that my co-workers are wholeheartedly committed to making a difference in the lives of children everywhere, and particularly those who walk through the doors of our office every day. It has been a humbling experience to have my desk be a stop during the many selective mutism intensives we host so children can practice brave talking in a safe space. And I am equally proud that our organization provides so many free evidence-based resources to families, educators and service providers, and is doing work that has a serious impact on the sigma associated with mental health.

Took two of my children to CMI for help with selective mutism. It was amazing and I learned so much. They also helped heal my heart by sharing understanding and giving me the tools to help my children. My kids are doing great and we continue to use what we learned there to help them improve. I love CMI.

We spent 12 years bringing my son from one pediatrician to another to early intervention to psychologists and psychiatrists who took our insurance and were always told he had adhd and given every medication ever made for adhd. He was socially reclusive, and very quiet in class, but also a good student, just sad and “odd”. Teachers did not believe he had adhd as they believed kids with adhd were loud trouble makers. Enter 9th grade...he gets into an all honors high school, the straight a kid starts failing. He has no friends and no self confidence and is on the straterra patch. A Customer of mine tells me she read a book by dr “k” and brought her daughter to CMI and “it’s been amazing”. I understand that they don’t take insurance and back then 2010, putting out 3200.00 for an evaluation seemed like a huge leap of faith. Well, we did it and to this day, I tell every parent I meet with a child who is suffering that I would have mortgages my house for how this ONE appt at CMI changed my sons life. He is now out of college and working in nyc. He is happy and well rounded with an amazingly large group of very close friends. Turns out that in one meeting, the drs knew what questions to ask him. “Do you ever count your teeth”. “Do you ever pull out the hairpin ur legs or head”. All things this helicopter parent had never seen. My son thought yes, don’t all kids count their teeth with their tongue before answering a question in class? He had severe OCD and anxiety which caused the Adhd. The dr/psychopharmacologist changed his meds to include Zoloft and VYAVANSE and suggested a supplement from the health food store to help him with his leg hair pulling. Within 5 days, my son was a different child. Outgoing. Funny. Grades went up...he wound up being the home coming king of his 82 student graduation class in high school. To conclude, CMI a changed my sons life for the better and changed our family for the better. I would have paid a million dollars (if I had it) for the change. CMI recommended some therapy available locally to do at home with insurance. We did a few sessions and he didn’t really need it. The medications were spot on. Years later now, he still takes a small dose 50 mg of Zoloft every day to tamp down anxiety and he is off of everything else. He got a good job right out of college and is on his road to being a man thanks to CMI.

Child Mind Institute offers a variety of services, which helps the research community and families at large. They offer free psychoeducational evaluations, especially for families who are seeking diagnostic clarifications and recommendations. This service also helps alleviate the backlog of evaluations from the NYC DOE.

At first seems a good service. But they stuck with the fact that my child didn’t speak English because he’s Brazilian what’s not true. English has been his first language. They refused the service for a foreign child and didn’t even wanted to hear me, the parent and refused right away. Probably a xenophobic institution.

There is no Child Mind Institute here. Child Mind poses as an institution, but really its name is a fancy sales ploy to take advantage of parents who want to help their child. This company caters to the wealthy only, as it brazenly charges quadruple the rates of a normal child counselor rate, without delivering one ounce of counseling that could be considered better than other Child InstitutesThis company service is akin to a Funeral Service provider over charging for funeral services to family members in their time of grief. This company takes advantage of parents in their time of need unfairly, and does not produce results.

This is a factory with some young experts who are quick to fill in boxes and not take the time to understand the nuances of a child. Got a second opinion and better experience elsewhere.

I left a message and filled in a form for a consultation. No response from Anyone at the center. A few days later I stopped by and made an appointment for a phone consultation. The Appointment came and went without a response from anyone at the center. I called and the receptionist apologized because they only have two people available and one was running late.
