This gym is the best one in the area for the following reasons1. It has 4 squat racks. Seriously I have no idea why gyms don’t have squat racks when everyone uses these all the time2. Plenty of weights up to 90lbs and lots of benches to use them3. Also has machines and a great workout area for stretches and box jumps etc.Overall nothing is better at this price range and the people that work here are super nice too. Highly recommend
Excellent ambiance The best value for money gym in town. Good gym with all the necessary equipment
The TVs are never working, with the remote in front of the. steps machine . The hand sanitizer dispensers by the front door are always empty. The plus side it’s a pretty big space and well laid out, but there’s just so much room for improvement . Especially for the price they charge. There is never a manager around, get your act together guys
On July 20th at 3 PM, I was verbally attacked and disrespected by this member in the photo for no good reason. He wanted me to leave a machine that I had just started using. I reported him and I hoped Crunch would enforce its policies and make it right by me taking the appropriate measures to avoid his violent behaviour from happening again. It was a stressful situation. A gym is not a place for violence and people aggressively yelling cursing at anyone. Unfortunately, Crunch did nothing at all.
Great gym, great vibe. All the necessities, but strange layout
Adam Bansak has been my personal trainer here over the past few years. Very good to work with. Whenever I slip up and stay away from the gym which happens to a lot of us, he gets me right back on track. I highly recommend this gym, clean plus no lines and no time limit on your stay.
Just signed up at this location. Love the space. Multiple floors, plenty of equipment. Staff is excellent, Courtney is amazing!
Best gym and old school style, combination of cross fit and bodybuilding
Membership coordinator, Courtney, was a pleasure to work with. John Garcia is an excellent trainer, specially for powerlifters. Facility is clean and well kept.
More crowded than the other clubs.Same level of cleanliness as other clubs
Very good, feels great to workout again without masks.
Good staff and so much space and equipment. Really puts the nearby Planet Fitness to shame, wish Id switched sooner.
Usually busy. Layout is very cramped so even when it’s not busy still feels it. There are cleaner locations with staff that is more COVID conscious. Rarely see trainers or members wipe down weights and benches.
Its an alright gym in normal times. They usually have on the AC and fans. Central Park is close, so I was able to store my stuff and go running. I just wish the TV screens on running machines worked better and that they pumped up the AC.
This location is one of my favorites. It’s got every machine for every single body part. The size of this place seems to be one of the bigger ones. Staff is super professional and all of the equipment is always clean and ready to use.
Doesnt open on time. With no warnings. Very frustrating.
I was with crunch for more than 2 years. I am taking out my previous rating because of the way the manager there handled my membership. He never answers calls but the front desk will give his email ONLY. They don’t reimburse the money inspite of your cancellation and tell their illogical rules just to make money. Highly unprofessional communication and false promises. Canceling membership here is a big pain. My friends in the gym had similar experience. They dont care how many years you been with them. They just need money to make this covid situation as convenient to them as possible. I wouldn’t recommend here for their pathetic communication unprofessionalism.
Just find another club, this is not worth it! Space is seriously cramped and way too many people at one time.
Good social distancing. Sanitizing products available across the entire gym. Masks must be worn at all times unless youre in the shower. Staff is very friendly
They are sneaky, I canceled my membership in August and post a block on my cc. This was during the pandemic. They charged me in October $306 from a 2nd bank acc that they are using. This is stealing and you should stay away from Crunch. I already disputed the charge and I will get my $ back.
Best price/quality ratio gym in town. Good gym full equipped and well cleaned. Friendly staff. Last but not least JOHN !!! I guess he’s the membership advisor, however he’s really a nice guy who treated us (two Italian guys) like never before.
I really like this gym. It’s clean, the staff is very nice, the equipment always works, and there are lots of windows (not to be taken for granted in Manhattan). Even during rush hour I can workout. A good value.
Cancelling my membership was a pain. They wouldnt refund my September bill even though they were closed and unavailable March - August. The exercise classes were constantly overbooked
Rejoined this gym A few days ago after going somewhere else for a few years!I actually like the variety of équipements that they have at this gym and that’s really all I personally care about.Unfortunately the music is blasting constantly and very annoyingly that it’s almost impossible to listen to your own music without being literally deaf.I’ve mentioned it a few times and they seemed to be very aware of it but my understanding is that this is how they want it.Personally I’m not sure if I will last after 1 monthI really like the équipement but the loud annoying music is driving me nuts.
The gym is large with great equipment. However I give this location only 2 stars, because they seem not to care too much about the privacy of their Male members. The Biggest Problem that I and many other members have is this Gym allows Female Staff to enter the Mens Locker-room any and all times to pick up used towels and to bring in fresh ones. Thats Correct: Women Staff are allowed into the Mens Locker-room while men are walking around in the nude. Also the location of where the towels are placed gives anyone that enters the Locker-room and easy view of Naked men in the shower and an Absolute view of Men relieving themselves at the Urinals. This is totally unacceptable, and total hypocrisy by Crunch Fitness. Because they will not and dont expose any of their Female Members to such an invasion of their Privacy. -The Womens Locker-room is tucked away in the back, and no males are allowed anywhere near it. -Hows that for a Double Standard? I amAlso the entrance to the Mens Locker-room is a Absolute Joke. Anyone can see inside the Locker-room from the gym floor. I have brought this to the attention of various Managers, whom they seem to change frequently, and to the District Manager, but nothing has been done about it.
Its very roomy now. Which is good.
Super Clean and Equipments are very well maintained. Friendly staff
Súper clean great staffs
The staff were helpful. A good variety of equipments. Makes working out a lot more efficient and effective
Attempting to contact this 54th street location and Crunch corporate for several months by email and phone. They will not respond to emails and the phone lines have been set to hang up after 3 rings.
There was an adequate amount of equipment throughout the facility. The design and colors are fun and fresh. Even at 6PM on a Friday, I was able to use the equipment I wanted too. Staff are friendly and helpful.
The person at the front desk was not friendly to me when I wanted a 3 day pass.... you would think they need to be nice to get my business? She didn’t even show me around the place so I’m pretty sure this sun deck that they advertise on the website doesn’t exist. I can’t say anything about the classes but it is a pretty standard gym and definitely doesn’t seem like it’s worth the price you have to pay... the spa products in the shower kind of smell nice but aren’t that great really. I feel like you might as well just splurge a little bit more and get a MUCH more luxurious experience at Equinox
This place use to be a 5 then they closed the steam room (steel door and all...), raised prices and it managed to get dirtier with no upgrades. Most people left for Equinox or crunch on 23rd that has a clean locker room and better towels. The nice thing about this gym is the number of squat racks for leg day. Otherwise I would recommend 23 or 59 th crunch that have better facilities, clean locker rooms and actual towels compared to the old thin ones 54 offers you. Its disappointing how quickly this place went down hill in less than a year. The pictures show what the locker room is typically like and this was on a slow Saturday afternoon so clearly no cleaning people had been in there for hours...
Convenient location, but poorly managed.i just got rushed out of my shower by the staff insisting that i get out of there within 2-5 minutes. This is in the middle of business hours, just so they could get some guys in the women’s room to scope out the space for renovations. From a paying member: a previous e-mail, even reading an inconvenient sign on the door, would have been better than being shoved out of the shower 4x.totally agree with previous reviews: Crunch 54th street is definitely one of the “dumpier crunch locations.”
Very clean! Helpful staff. Not crazy crowded. Plenty of areas and machines, good spin bikes, towel service, and Bliss soaps, shampoos, conditioner and lotion. Convenient location if youre near Times Square.
If you live in the old bridge, Marlboro, Morganville or freehold area you absolutely have to join crunch. They are not busy during most hours and they have great equipment. Im there every day and the people that work there are extremely helpful.
Started going to this gym a week ago. Trying it out for a month with a groupon deal and so far Im loving it! I especially love the spinning classes.
Choice this fitness center just for convenience. Will stop the membership because they broke my lock and took out all my stuff there without any notice. The overnight storage is 30 dollar. There is basically no advantage at all except for the location. No good trainer either.
Crunch has great classes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this spin teacher named Reign! She is very motivating and super fun. Its like a party in her class! My 2 friends and I stalk her from midtown to BK!!! Like many women, I struggle with cellulite on the backs of my legs...Reigns class at 54th has made it go away. Cause she does this cool thing with the pedals.
I have been coming to this gym location since 2001. It used to be called Prescriptive Fitness, then turned into Golds gym, and not it is Crunch. Not much change in overall layout over the years. The staff is friendly and the place is rather clean. They have all the usual variety of cardio and weights and some great classes. In the past year it seems that membership or at least attendance is way down, which means it is rather easy to get onto any machine or bench in most hours of the day. The flipside is that it seems that they are not fixing broken equipment with the same speed they used to and the maintenance in progress sign sometimes sits on certain pieces of equipment for months. Still, a good and user-friendly gym overall.
Worse Crunch location. Lockers 2 flights up, dont have towels inside, crappy hair dryer, gross steam room, dark and gross showers, poor decor, way too bright. Ive been a member for over a year and have visited 8+ locations. Wont be going back.
This place needs a facelift. I love Crunch but this one feels dirty. The floors are always wet in the locker room. The lighting is severe. I love the staff and the shake bar but the space could use some TLC.
Tried it. Tested it. Not worth it. Equipment sucks. Members suck. Staff suck. Whewww! Thank God for a free guest pass. I will never have to step foot inside this place again
No women’s bathroom, only 1 shared bathroom available, terrible layout
A very convenient gym. I wish it was run better
Music selection is always off. Nice smoothie bar (they since got rid of it). Staff not especially nice. Small steam room (also gotten rid of).Now changed over to a more CrossFit direction which few needed or use.Rates are getting far too high against the competition which now beats them in features, amenities and value.I have now left Crunch because 110 a month is ridiculous for the lack of value it gives.
Nice gym.. but nothing other than the ordinary
No sauna or steam room (they just permanently closed the steam room). The place is a mess, dirty, all towels are thrown around, the bathroom is not clean. Its amazing how each crunch location is different, the one on the upper west side or Chelsea is so nice. Anyway, I signed up to crunch for the sauna and this location has nothing.
Nice gym. Clean and lots of weights and machines. Very very very gay—so if you don’t like gays this may not be the gym for you.
All the services I need. Wish it wasnt as crowded, but I usually move around just fine. And to be honest, what gym isnt crowded at the 6oclock hour in a normal work week in NYC?..
Definitely one of the dumpier crunch locations (23rd St is way nicer and e 59th is way larger), but probably the best option in HK.Pros:-lots of weights-natural light-fairly clean-large floorplan-great music (I swear their playlist is called 30 something gay men)Cons:-Very crowded at peak times-AC doesnt seem to work on the top floor, so hot!-generally dumpier than others crunches in the city. The whole gym needs a renovation-thin towelsMy short review of other options:-Planet Fitness - cheap, large and clean but not enough weights and no towel service-Mercedes Club - fairly small and crowded and too expensive for one location-TMPL - no natural light and not that nice considering the price and one location-Equinox (Columbus circle) - even more insanely priced and way too crowded-NYSC - dumpy and dirty
I give it one star just because of the management. They dont know what theyre doing. The mens locker rooms steam room has been closed for 3 weeks and was supposed to be working today. In the three weeks I saw no change to the steam room other than it was just off. I was hoping they would take out the wooden benches that have nails sticking out the sides and on the verge of collapse, but no. Who puts wood benches in a steam room? A dry sauna, yes, but not when they are gong to be wet 15 hours a day. Anyway, I called yesterday and the girl at the front desk put me on hold and then told me that yes, the steam room would be on today, June 1st. I arrived today and nope, still not working. While I was there I called the front desk to speak to the manager and was put on hold for 4 minutes while the guy at the front desk (who spends more time on his mobile then doing anything else) tried to locate the manager. He said he couldnt find him and then he said he just walked in the door, I said great, Im upstairs waiting to talk to him. Guess they guy at the desk didnt realize I was in the building because all of a sudden the manager had a client and couldnt talk to me. I tried to find the manager on my own because I want a refund because this is the only location that Im a member, but no one knew where Keith was, it was like Whos Keith? This is just the latest issue. In the past month alone Ive had the laundry lady take a break and watch the TV news over my head while Im trying to work out and the older guy who teaches a spin class take a break and sit with his little computer and read and relax two bikes down from where Im working out! For over two years that Ive been a member there, at least 20 days a month Ill go there after work to find no towels in the locker room. Thats ridiculous. They cant figure out how to keep the towels stocked in the mens room so the men dont have to go into the ladies locker room to grab a towel? Ive had to walk out half naked, go to the laundry room in view of other members working out to get a freakin towel. Way to treat your members. You guys are rockstars, thanks.
With the exception of some employees, Alexis who is not very helpful and doesnt bother saying hello or bye like the rest of crunch staff does; it has good classes and a cleaner steam room
Fair equipment, you get what you pay for. Facilities also what you would expect for the price. No bumper plates, platforms or free chaulk. Showers/locker rooms are decent. Not outstanding but for 90$ a month it is a good value. My major issue is there are trainers who constantly approach you interrupting your workout to try to sell you personal training sessions. If you are firm and tell them to get lost they normally leave you alone.
This is an excellent gym, well equipped, clean, excellent location, pleasant, helpful staff.I have been to other gyms in NYC for over 30 years and gyms in other states. This one is the best value.
Excellent gym. Staff member Dan (the rugby player) was incredibly helpful, welcoming and accomodating. Will be returning when lm next in NYC!
It has been a consistently present health club for years. Its functional.
Most of the instructors were snobby and focused on themselves. They barely came over to help during the classes despite me telling them I was new. I ended up choosing another gym because of this.
I like this gym
There are literally dudes masturbating in the steam room of this gym - happened 3 times. The manager does not care about this. Maybe this is acceptable in some world!
One of the best gyms Ive been to. Great personal trainers too.
Greatgym. Well quipped. I was actually very surprised considering I work out at the one Guinness suburbs. friendly management. Alberto was very helpful.
Great gym. Tons of space, weights, and cardio. Great location.
Very outdated cardio equipment but the weight selection is solid
Focus is on weights. very very limited options in cardio. hoist machines awesome
What a disaster of a receptionist at your front desk tonight. Clearly Hates his job or significantly underpayed. I was considering leaving equinox since you guys are closer to my apt but who ever was at your front desk tonight helped my make my decision a breeze. Would never ever set foot inside this derelict gym
Great place friendly staff convenient place to work out ....great location
My experience with Crunch Fitness at 54th street lasted 6 months. I love the trainers and friendly front desk staff, but the careless, defensive GM and and other management staff leave me unsettled. The facilities are lacking in performance and cleanliness. I have spotted cockroaches and other pests on occasion on the weights floor. Keith, General Manager, comments, you are a liar... must be crazy or something. I asked specific questions about how machines were cleaned at what frequency a day and how the walkthrough procedures were conducted because I was a manager of a fitness center in SF, CA, and I was met with a long list of reactive comments of what I do wrong with my workout practices such as usage of chalk. I see no where on my contract nor any written rules anywhere prohibiting use of chalk. I was not heard. The response did not pertain to my questions, rather a petty childish conversation ensued in a he said she said fashion, regarding an interaction with my partner and a trainer. Look at the amalgamation of reviews attesting to poor facility maintenance and lack of cleanliness. Keith says, Machines are cleaned once a day in the morning. Peak hours are from late afternoon until night time. My partner very well may have contracted conjunctivitis/staph infections from the dirty machines, and management is more concerned with us uttering the word douche referring to when my partner was followed around the gym by a trainer harassing us to re-rack weights before we were done with our circuit during the slow hours of the gym. There were identical squat racks 10 feet away not in use. My questions were halfway answered and the General Manager decided it was the best solution to have corporate call us and revoke our memberships. Not once did he offer to check in with staff or offer to have more routine machine cleanings. This was funny to me because he first told us during the beginning the conversation that there was no corporate number for us to call. Shady, we called our old Crunch in LA and we got the number right away. Corporates HR department has a full mailbox, go figure. We will be charged for a whole months worth of membership for something unused. Legally, that is called impossibility of service, which is grounds to terminate our contract. Seem like a scam? You decide.
My gym ive been going to for 10 years! Friendly staff, good members, classes and the smoothie bar is great!
Awesome gym! Love the equipment, location and especially the staff!
Big 3 level gun with plenty of space, machines, and free weights for you to accomplish your goals. Friendly staff, free classes for members, large locker rooms and showers.
BUGS! There are bugs in the ladies showers. Also half the showers are broken with handles falling off and the showers stink. The staff clearly doesnt care about their facilities. Its a shame because the classes are very good. BUGS in the SHOWERS.
Great location and a Subway sandwich next door.
Major improvements lately. Could still stand to upgrade some equipment and reduce the cardio area
Of a the crunch gyms this one is just ok... you have to walk up to the third floor to get to the lockers but all of the classes are on the first floor...
Dump. Old machines. Very crowded. Many machines are broken or damaged. And bathrooms and locker rooms have a very unpleasant odor at all times. UPDATE: Came back months later - still filthiest gym in the city.
Been coming once a month for the past 3 months and every time get charged a different rate for day pass. Price inconsistency is the reason I wont come again.
This is one of the most bad, depressing looking Crunch Ive been to. Needs some renovations and love asap.
Great base, the equipment is in good shape, just like the trainers!
Coach Carmine is a great addition!
Its a good place to play sports
Nice gym good smoothies
Working out a little daily
Great gym
Simply the best in the area.
Nice gym, great location
Did not appreciate the surprise $30 they just charged to my credit card. They invented a new annual fee for maintenance that was not mentioned in my original sign up. Very underhanded.
Not the fanciest but it does the job
The management is totally useless when one makes complaints.
Not honest people at all!
35 dollars for a guest pass for a low class gym is unacceptable
Great workout
Ballet classes are the best !!!! amazing teacher and amazing energy !!!!! LOVE IT and I recommend everyone to try it !!!!!
How much for a casual visit
Too expensive for day pass
