I came into the union square shop with a Burberry trench coat that was a little large in the chest but fit in the shoulders and was helped out by Sinai. He made the adjustments while making it seem like it had come off the rack that way and did a very proper job. He and the rest of the team were very pleasant to work with and made the fitting/pickup process painless. Also, if you speak Spanish Sinai can speak it as well if communicating in English is not your first language :)

The tailors at Alteration Specialists are top notch and their amazing customer service is beyond compare! When one of my pieces needed to be taken in a little bit more, the tailor shop manager, Ben, swooped in and got it done in less than 15 minutes without me even asking. I’ve used them for opening night dresses and now for all my wedding attire. I trust their work and professionalism and highly recommend them!

I bought a beautiful 1960s chiffon dress that was in fairly good condition but needed alterations around the bust and some small repairs where the chiffon had worn. After some research on a tailor who could handle sensitive vintage clothing, I decided on Alteration Specialists and had the good fortune of having Bibi work on the dress. She was so funny and sweet and had such a good eye that she let me know that the dress had been previously worked on, and not well. Not only did she make the alterations and repairs, she also reinforced areas that were previously hand sewn (like the side zipper) so I wouldn’t have to worry about the dress holding up long term. Will definitely be back!

Super professional and amazing work. Not an average tailor- will work with the structure of the clothing piece to ensure a perfect fit, but also to keep the original look and intent of the piece in tact. Have taken both formal pieces and casual here with only amazing results- will only come here for work on high end pieces.

Ive been going to AS for years, and the tailoring is reliable, but today was very disappointing from a customer service perspective. I had to ask the employees to wear their masks, and they were none too pleased about it. One joked is there a fire? and had to be asked more than once before finally putting masks on. Pretty disappointed considering I am visibly pregnant, have been a long time customer, had made an appointment especially to minimize contact with people, and their prices are $$$$$.

These tailors don’t have competitive pricing and overcharges for specific alterations that shouldn’t even cost as much as they list it. You have tailors that charge much less and do better jobs. Just because it’s expensive don’t mean the job that needs to be done is automatically good. Never going back there again feel like I wasted money. Word to the wise look for other tailors first who can see if they could do your alteration and try to find the one that charges reasonable prices before coming here.

This place saved my wedding dress! After the original tailor at the bridal store told me it couldn’t be taken in anymore but it was still too baggy in the stomach, I thankfully found this place a week before the wedding. They turned the dress around in about 3 days and completely fixed the issue - the dress ended up looking fantastic. They are definitely not cheap, but are completely worth it in my opinion! Would highly recommend.

They go so quickly! I was running behind for a wedding out of state and they turned around a full hem and thick strap shortening in less than a week. I also appreciated how many payment options they have. You can even pay using Venmo. I want to say my whole hem/strap alteration was about $70, which was the most reasonable price quote I got in the area. If youre lucky, you can snag a parking spot up front, but there are also metered spots on the neighboring streets.

Ive been using Alteration Specialists since 2015. Top-notch tailoring and all-around friendly service. I recently had to bring back a winter jacket because the sleeves werent quite right (the first time that has ever happened, by the way). Ben immediately saw the problem and fixed my coat while I waited. It was pouring rain with temps in the low 30s later that evening and I was very grateful to have that coat! Megan contacted me via email about their services and they seemed like a good option for a busy professional like me. But I couldnt have been more wrong. I took it as a good sign that I needed to wait 10 days to come in for measurements, but I soon learned it was all a ruse. The alterations they told me would take 3 days, took more than 2 weeks. When I picked up the suit, theyd done such a poor job--some of the stitching was a different color than the original, the hem was uneven, and they must have used an embroidery needed--there were literally holes where theyd stitched. When I complained, suddenly they couldnt have been more rude and disrespectful. Id have refused to pay, but I was worried they wouldnt let me take the suite to another tailor. And I paid a fortune for their shoddy work! But the other tailor said the fabric was ruined--that is unless youre short enough to cover the hems ruined fabric and skinny enough to cover the ruined fabric on the waist.Apparently they have an army of Megans working for them: Megan Lews, Megan Coleman, Megan Zigler, Megan Price, Megan Harper, Megan Rapaport, etc. because they KEEP FLOODING MY INBOX, which Ive asked them multiple times to stop doing.Id give them zero stars if I could. Jerks.

This is one of those services that you just never thought existed. Once you use them, you will never be able to get something tailored elsewhere. Took a tough shoulder job on an older suit, and it was tailored perfectly. Not an easy job either, 2 other tailors said it wasnt possible. From the experience, to the service, this company is really the gold standard in tailoring. So happy that they are near my home and work as well. My wife is going to try the home office service, she is super excited about that.

Overall great experience! The woman who greeted me when I entered was extremely friendly and helpful, and they accommodated my (admittedly unreasonable) quick turnaround time request with no fuss. Of course all of that wouldnt matter if the work wasnt satisfactory, but I was definitely more than pleased with both the quality of my alterations and the price! Honestly best experience Ive had with a tailor in NYC thus far. Love that I could book online, and the receptionist as well as the tailors were great to work with. Only had one jacket altered this time around, but theyve definitely got me as a customer for life based on this experience alone.

Ive had a few blazers and slacks tailored here and I have to say that Ive been very pleased with the results. The tailors are wonderful. Its so refreshing to work with tailors that are fluent in English and just understand what Im looking for (the first time). Overall, a stellar experience. Will definitely come back.

Certainly expected more detailed work with a better finish.Got a Theory suit tailored. My altered pant legs were different lengths, at approximately a 1 difference between legs. I tried on the pants to show them and informed them of this, however the lady i spoke to was immediately ready to prove otherwise (considering that I noticed immediately, I think this certainly speaks to their level of detail). After taking them off and handing them to her, she folded the pants in half and compared them side by side only to see that they were indeed different lengths. Furthermore, my jacket sleeves needed to be hemmed and I was told that the sides needed to be hemmed as well - deferred to their expertise, but specifically asked whether they could ensure that the finish of the jacket would be as per the original design, i.e., no additional draping in the front. Was told that they would take away any additional draping with the alteration. Not the case when the jacket was given back to me once altered. I was then told that the additional draping was due to a lack of pocket or seams on the right side of the jacket, however would have preferred to have been told this from the beginning.I believe that a tailors value add is not only their level of detail in creating a polished product, but also their expertise in how the finished product will fall post-alteration. Neither of these were met in my experience here.

I decided to bring a vintage skirt that was too big and a bridesmaid dress here after reading all of the different reviews. Nigel and Toni are great - Nigel helped me figure out where to take the skirt in and made it look 100 times better! My bridesmaid dress needed to be shortened and have the bust taken in; it turned out great! This is for sure my go-to place to get anything altered.

Yess! I finally found a place that -no jokes- are masters of alterations. I asked if they altered even the smallest things and they do! They alter almost everything from bridal and suits to plain t-shirts and jeans! The place is filled with so many other clients but consultations took only less than 10 minutes! The tailors there really do know what needs to be altered even without you needing to tell them. May I also add how friendly the front desk ladies are! I brought in 5 suits to Alteration Specialists that needed significant tailoring... After months of mistakes and re-tailoring I have 5 poorly fitted suits and a $1200.00 alterations bill. Unfortunately I lost all faith in there ability to correct the problem and decided to purchase new suits instead... Though the overall review is high, I couldnt recommend anyone to this tailor based on my experience .

I never leave reviews, but this experience was beyond crazy.I spent $700 to have tailoring done on two items for my wedding (no sequins, no beading), and the work was done a day late, and poorly, resulting in a number of wardrobe issues during my wedding weekend.When I contacted them about what happened, they didnt respond. They only responded when I posted on social media, and DMd me to demand I take the post down immediately and promised to respond to my email. They then never emailed me back, until I contacted them again on social media. Seriously that happened! I was asked to sign a confidentiality / non-disclosure waiver promising *not* to share my bad experience. Ive never seen that!The man I spoke to - Nigel Ramsey - told me the skirt was too tight and it popped which was my fault. The skirt was not tight, and he repeatedly said its too tight which is what you asked for. When things are too tight, they pop. WHAT?! In fact, my skirt was loose, which is why it needed to be nipped in the waist? Absolutely beyond offensive, especially given it was my wedding.Management wouldnt take responsibility for their shoddy, rushed work and are more worried about their social media than serving their clients. Go anywhere else - the management of this company is beyond rude and doesnt deserve a penny of your hard-earned money!

I had my wedding gown tailored here and had about 4-5 fittings from June-August 2015. I found Nigel and his staff on yelp and was very wary about having my gown done (blind eye). My bridal salon did not have an in house tailor so I was scrambling to find an expert. I got there and questioned Nigel (the owner) and he reassured me he does this all the time and showed me Nicole Miller gowns all in their sewing room. Nigel and his staff did a great job! He is very expensive which I expected (but very expensive $$$$) so dont be too sticker shocked with the price.

Very over-priced! I was quoted over $220 to tailor a dress, and found a place one block away that would do the same work for $110. The woman at the front desk was a bit unfriendly when I started asking if there was any type of discount (I would have stayed if they quoted me slightly lower, but she would not budge).

They were fine but the work that was done was unacceptable. I paid $250 to have a bridesmaids dress altered. They took a few Inches off the bottom. Within 2 min of walking the bottom started to fray terribly... they did one thin loose stitch around the bottom... a professional should have known that wouldnt work. I was with 6 bridesmaids who all got their dresses altered and mine was the only one that did that...
