Fantastic experience overall! Arthur is an expert who made me feel like I was in the best of hands. His experience shows, he found issues that my former stylist made worse or ignored completely. I’ve never looked better!Highly recommend this business, Arthur is a top notch professional, thru and thru!I will be back for my next haircut for sure!
Brought my 4 year old son here for his first professional haircut. Arthur was so gracious with my son and I was surprised how meticulous and thorough he was cutting his hair. My son had a good time (his words) and his hair looks so good, just in time as he starts summer school! My husband comes here too and Im not exaggerating literally got over 30 compliments last time he cut his hair. I HIGHLY recommend coming here.
I love quirky hole-in-the-wall places that you really cant experience anywhere else, and this place was awesome! My parents were coming into town for 3 days and as soon as I found this place I told my dad that one thing he has to do while hes in NY is get a haircut from the barbershop museum, because where else can you get this experience. My dad and I also love trivia and Arthur, the proprietor, has so much knowledge that is so unique. He was professional, exceptionally kind, very personable, and one hell of a barber. He was so welcoming, chatted with us the whole time, gave us interesting facts about barbershop history, as well as all the memorabilia around his shop. The location is beautiful. Its not big, but theres so much to look at, and everything in the store came from a barbershop somewhere in the world. This place deserves all the recognition, and for a true, classic barbershop experience, he is SO reasonably priced. 100% recommend. Support local businesses and support the barbershop museum! You wont be disappointed :D
I was in NYC for a party last weekend and walking up Columbus Ave my wife and I came across this extraordinarily cool Museum/Barber Shop. (Glad I was not on other side of street or would have missed it). As the sign said, I texted for a haircut appointment, Arthur returned my text, and the next morning I returned and got a great haircut at a very reasonable price in a truly one of kind location with a one of a kind barber. Incredibly interesting/entertaining and functional experience --- and a cold beer too!
Arthur is a master. He looked at my hair and gave me an optimal haircut better than I have had at Madison Avenue salons for 3-4 times the price. I have a very difficult uneven hairline at back and he gave it a natural look. If you want a truly skilled professional that can give you a modern, great looking cut, this is your place.
My wife and I recently visited this quirky, diminutive museum for a brief but informative tour. Our guide was Arthur, the founder of the museum, who also happens to be a 4th generation master barber and the CEO of REAMIR & Co (a brand that includes multiple barbershops and a line of mens grooming products). Arthur was gracious and knowledgeable, and we enjoyed enjoyed the experience.
FANTASTIC hair cut and beard trim. Couldn’t recommend it more. Go here for a guaranteed great cut and great service.
It’s hard finding a good barber in this city, especially for beard trims, etc. After going through a few barbershops, I think I found one that I can consistently go back to. Arthur the owner has the passion and artistry, knows what you need. Definitely recommend to those who just moved to the city and to those looking for a shop.
I just moved to the upper west side and was looking for a barber I could trust, after a few bad experiences. The barber shop museum it’s the place to be! The hair cut was great, even my wife who always complain totally approved it. And even my mother!
Just moved in to the area and got my first haircut in a while here. Arthur was great and the haircut is one of the best I ever had. The hot towel massage was a nice touch. Will definitely be going back here in the future.
I got a high fade at this place a few months ago; its not a complicated haircut per se, but in my experience, there are degrees of success. The barber did a great job, and notably, he (its the proprietor, I just forgot his name) was sophisticated enough to observe what previous barbers had done incorrectly. I had been unhappy with a few previous haircuts, so this was refreshing. We had a pleasant conversation that wasnt too much to distract me from enjoying the overarching pleasure of getting a haircut. Ill definitely be booking an appointment in the future.
The guys at NYC barber shop museum are extremely professional. The owner Arthur cares about his customers and treats them like family. This is a spot you dont wanna miss. If you come to NYC you certainly wanna get your hair cut here. Its an amazing experience, youll be cared for, youll be comfortable, and most importantly, youll be super happy. They use individual combs, and theyre super gentle with kids. Great experience. Love this place. 100% recommended
Great barbershop. One of the best cuts I’ve had in a while. Super fair prices. The place is totally clean and the owner goes the extra mile for COVID precautions. Highly recommend getting a cut here. Will be a repeat customer!
My girlfriend and I went to check out the museum portion of this establishment over the weekend and really enjoyed talking to the owner who had a lot of great stories about his famous clients and the history of the shop. I would absolutely recommend visiting for a piece of history.
Cool interior as a bonus to the professional service. Definitely recommend the place.
Arthur was fantastic. He gave me my first real haircut in well over a year. Because of Covid my haircuts have been done by my wife at home. Arthur gave us some interesting history and stories along with the cut. I highly recomend a visit and a haircut. You will be pleased.
Arthur is a master of his trade. Hes a third or fourth gen Barber. One step inside and you’ll see his notable accolades match his abilities.
Amazing place. Best haircut I can remember having.
Interesting hidden gem on the UWS. Friendly and informative shop owner who collected all of the antiques and memorabilia displayed in the shop/museum.
Absolutely the Best Barber I have ever been to hands down. Arthur, is my 7 year old son’s Barber as well and I cannot put into words how fantastic he works with children. My sons hair is challenging to say the least, but Arthur enjoys those haircuts the most. If you go to the the Barbershop Museum you will become a client for life!!!
I really enjoyed the NYC Barber Shop Museum. It is beautifully designed--all classic/antique barber chairs, interesting barbershop relics, etc., and Arthur, the owner, is a true craftsman. Its the best mens haircut on the Upper West Side, and a really cool experience. I highly recommend.
Superprofessionals work here! They can handle all sorts of requests and fancy cuts.
My son and I have been going to Arthur for several years. He provides, by far, the best haircut, value, conversation, and ambience in NYC! He is a true artist, and a passionate steward of barbershop tradition and experience.
Moved to the neighborhood recently and have been so pleased to find this spot. Arthur is fast, versatile, and always consistent with a great haircut. Great vibe in the barbershop. Always a relaxing experience.
Excellent haircut! Very clean and sanitary. The owner, Arthur, really knows what he is doing and getting a haircut here is an amazing value. Will be going back!
Beautiful barbershop that was very clean. The service was excellent and my haircut was exactly what I wanted. The barbershop has incredible history and is beautifully decorated. I will be sure to return and highly recommend to others.
Very covid safe! Barbers use a new comb for every customer and even did that before the pandemic. There is a reason I have stuck with these barbers for over 10 years!
Cool vintage stuff inside but mediocre haircut. The owner was friendly but no attention to detail. The fade didnt even make it up to my part in some spots. Since I wore a mask, he cut around the ear loop and totally missed spots. Speaking of masks, the other worker there wasnt wearing one.
An exclusive VIP barbershop experience. I had a wonderful time here!! Had great conversation, and got an amazing cut! I could spend hours just looking at the incredible collection of barbershop antiques including barber chairs from many eras.. I can not wait to return for my next hot shave and haircut..
Came across this place in the neighborhood and have been going back ever since. Arthur cares about cleanliness in a time when many barber shops do not, and hands down one of the best and most consistently good haircuts around. Highly recommend making an appointment.
This was by far one of the nicest experiences I’ve had at a barber shop. The staff is incredibly friendly and well educated on the history of the trade. From the beautiful chandeliers, to the historic shop chairs this is one unique experience. Not only is it a museum curated by the owner, it is also a high quality barber shop. They specialize in old methods once thought forgotten. Need a Straight edge cut or want something with just scissors? They’ve got you covered, all while making you feel at home. Oh and the hot towels are a must!!! Even if you don’t want a haircut you haveeeee to at least check out the shop. It’s extraordinary. All you need it 3 minutes to spare ... you won’t regret it.
Great service and experience!!
Its a great VIP barbershop experience: the aesthetic is really nice. They have comfortable antique chairs and offer many grooming packages. One even comes with Champagne and black caviar. Every guy should come here at least once to see the collection of barber memorabilia..
I went in for a simple haircut. The barber they had did not listen to a word I said. I asked for a 4 on the sides and a half an inch off the top. He did not do any of the things I asked for. My hair is way too short. The line up on the sides is uneven and terrible. There is no layering. This is by far the worst haircut I have ever received. It is way too overpriced. This may be the worst barber shop in NYC if not America. No one should ever get a haircut at this establishment. If I could I would burn it to the ground. If I ever see that barber in public, you will see me on the local news the next morning. This place needs to be shut down. Please in name of all that is holy, do not go this place. Heed my warning. Godspeed.
I passed this place a bunch of times interested but never thought it was a Barber shop. I needed a haircut in a rush and decided to take my chances. Man am I thankful that Arthur took me without an appointment. The haircut was specific to my hair type and he did it EFFORTLESSLY. Then he gave me a complimentary shirt. This place is an EXPERIENCE. Take the time, make the appointment, and go to ARTHUR. Awesome job!
As a fine artist and photographer, Ive always been obsessed with barber shops - visually. I dont particularly like going to beauty salons myself - I think barber shops are far more interesting and less snooty. Back when I was an art student at RISD, I photographed quite a few barber shops on my treks to NYC. Many barber shops are still decorated with really cool ephemera and antiques that add to the appeal of getting your hair cut.As such, when I found out about this museum, I absolutely had to go - and it was wonderful. The people working there were so nice and let me take as many photos as I wished. I could have spent several hours looking at all the incredible collectibles, but didnt want to overstay my welcome since I wasnt getting my hair cut. I highly recommend this museum for anyone who digs barber shops, nostalgia, or antiques!
Great overall experience for a haircut. I have been going here regularly for over a year and not had a bad experience yet. Arthur is the proprietor and museum curator and he does a bang up job every time. The regulars in the shop have a great rapport with one another so there is always fun, lively conversation . There is grooming level starting at thirty seven an awesome to an awesome VIP package called twenty first Century Gold ..
Amazing experience today with Arthur, who is clearly passionate about his craft and the results are obvious after my past few years of bad haircuts. The space is truly a museum as you can feel the history around you. I highly recommend this barber shop to everyone, especially to those who havent cared for their hair in a while, and dont worry Arthur told me he loves a challenge.
After not having a haircut for 5 months due to COVID -19 lockdown,I had the pleasure of meeting Arthur. He is a true master of his craft.BEST HAIRCUT EVER.
If you want the VIP treatment that men used to get at the barber generation ago, this is the place! Arthur, the owner, is the best barber in NYC and has the credentials to prove it, The high- end level of mens grooming cannot be found anywhere else in New York. The collections is a must see. If you do not come here for the ultimate barbershop experience you are really missing out..
This place gives the best haircut in NYC!! Ive been going to Arthur here for two years now and have no compliments. This place is the classic old time New York barbershop. The entire staff is friendly and the collection of historical barber equipment is amazing . This is a must for any man visiting NYC.
Love this place! The staff is always friendly. Fantastic barbers! Full service shop from cuts and shaves to massages. They also have an amazing selection of mens grooming products.
Ive been looking for the best barbershop all around the city and when I found Barbershop Museum, I knew it was going to be my go-to spot. Arthur is the best barber anywhere the place is cool and the music is good. Highly recommend..
Alex was fantastic. I went for a beard trim and haircut and they crushed it. Some places feel like they’re rushing through but not here. Alex was meticulous and precise. They even give you a personal comb the used during your haircut, amazing service. 10/10 going back.
I wanted to love this place... The staff was very friendly and the shop is charming. However, it is smaller than I expected and there isnt much context for the impressive collection of vintage barber gear. The shave I had here was good, but not among the best Ive had.
Wonderful museum! So glad we found this place. Very interesting and informative with lots to look at. We recommend giving it a try. Youll like it.
It is a special place with different design, different than any other barber shops in nyc.Good and fast service.expensive comparing to other barber shop prices, but maybe because of the location and the shop design.I recommend it
Treated my friend to the Express shave. He absolutely loved it! Hes been growing out his beard for a few months and it needed to tamed badly, he was started to remind me of Grizzly Adams. The barber was AMAZING..AMAZING..AMAZING, she took 10 years off him. Afterwards for entire day he kept staring at his reflection in the mirror and windows. Definitely worth the money. Men...treat yourself ..you deserve to be pretty too. Also service is not just 5 stars...its 10 stars!! The gentleman who you check in with (unfortunately I cant remember his name ) is very informative, you will learn so much about the history of barbers, and the tools used. This is such a gem...definitely a must for any man.
Quality establishment!! Did a great job cutting my boyfriend’s hair, and gave me an ice water while I waited for him!! He loved the place and the staff. A bit on the expensive side, though.
This was such a fun and interesting thing for the kids. Happy we brought them here. I enjoyed it myself and learned quite a bit. We will be back.
Very neat experience. We learned a lot and had a great time all around. Very glad we decided to check it out. Highly recommend this museum
Interesting museum! Happy to recommend it to others in the area. Very fun time and a great value.
This was such a great barber experience. Very welcoming. Great cut. I’ll be coming back!
What a cool museum! It was so neat to see all those things. Some of them I didnt recognize! It was a lot of fun.
Hello, you have a very beautiful salon 💇♂️
Somehow, it always feels a bit awkward to get your hair cut by someone new. At this shop, the staff was fun to talk to, and really made sure they gave me what I want. I wouldn’t call it a value, but even with the price the experience, expertise, and service they deliver is worth it. Will be going back again soon.
The space is beautiful and reminiscent of an old school barbershop. I feel like I should be wearing a 3 piece suit to get a cut.Arthur is an absolute Master at his craft. Hes a 4th generation barber and it shows in his attention to detail. I recently learned that his father (himself a master barber) started teaching arthur at 9 years old. The decades of practice are immediately apparent when you sit down in his seat. They also sell their own brand of hair care products, which are incredibly high quality.
I always search out straight razor shave places anywhere I go. How could I go wrong in a 4th generation barbershop and museum. And the place is magnificent. Do yourself a favor and go.
Came in here once to look at all of the artifacts. It’s now my go to barbershop. Perfect haircut every time!
Every guy should experience what a great shave and mens haircut is all about and learn the history of the barber trade... It is fascinating and you will leave looking and feeling great... A must in Manhattan..
I love working at this place. It is a real experience for men to come in and be treated with the straight razor shave, hot towel and face and neck massage. Great antique environment for men to relax in old fashion barbers chair while getting the haircut.
Very interesting place to check out. See how I great-grandfathers got to shave
Came to this place on NYC trip because it looked interesting. We were met at the door and asked if we were there for a cut or the museum. We said museum and were given a fantastic in depth tour through barber shop history by the co-founder Rasheed. He was a great guy and very knowledgable about barbershop history. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip!
Really enjoyed exploring barbershop history and seeing all of the historical relics the founders have collected. 100% recommend this place!
Fun place. Great service. Nice to have a shave / haircut place in neighborhood
Really cool barbershop/museum
Great haircut nice folks
Awesome spot
Gimmick to sell paraphernalia.
