The young man who works there cut my hair off-center, walked around without his mask, would touch my mask and snap it around my face without permission, and unprofessional/personable conversation. This place gets two stars because the older woman present at the time at least looked like she knew what she was doing.
I go on Thursdays because Alex is there and he always gives me a superb haircut. He is a professional barber with 20 years of experience. He knows what he is doing, and he does it artfully.
Alex is great. I recommend this place. I will definitely come back.
Ive been looking around for a new Barber. I thought I would give this place a try. Yafa gave me a great haircut! She really took her time. Ill be back
Fantastic experience. The staff is extremely friendly, and its a great value for NYC. Serge in particular went above and beyond to make sure I looked good - he gave me his expert opinion, but really paid attention to what I wanted. And, unlike some shops in the area, they adhered strictly to mask and sanitizing protocols - I felt completely safe. Cant recommend highly enough!
This place has really gone downhill. I went for the first time in years a few weeks ago and got a mediocre haircut and beard trim, but I figured it was a one-off thing. I came back today and had an even worse experience with a different barber. The cut and trim were uneven: I had to fix my neckline when I got home. He took his sweet time and I was charged $40 for a cut I could (and have) done better myself. He was more invested in the Yankee game than cutting hair. I will not be returning.
The worst haircut experience in my life. I cant say much about the other employees but do not get a haircut from the lady at the shop. Frankly you would be better off cutting your own hair, it was that bad. I asked for a fade cut..she literally just trimmed the back of my head and said its done. I asked to make it shorter as there was no gradient but she outright refused in a very rude manner. I have to go to another shop to get the haircut again now. Horrible experience!!
Never a wait and the barbers (and barberettes) always listen to what you want and hit the mark. $25 for s cut is s bit steep, maybe that’s why it’s usually empty…
How good are they? I drove into NYC from NJ to get a haircut today. The trip was about a 35-40 minutes. It was worth every minute.
Ruben is the best! Great haircuts and you get what you pay for in quality! I especially recommend the close razor fade. Worth the price because I only have to get a haircut every two weeks! Also military friendly and know how to do a proper cut. Will be coming back. If you want quality over quantity, this is a barbershop worth checking out.
Great shops always come out looking sharp. The barber David always takes his time making sure your hair looks great and your happy
Best barbershop in the neighborhood.
Small barber shop, family-run. Sometimes they dont open RIGHT on the hour but I dont blame them.Im male and you my hair cut by a very young guy who did a fantastic job. Didnt rush, always clarified how I would want certain parts, clean cut, etc. Definitely going again.
Been going there for over 10 years. Always had a great experience. Cheap, quick, efficient and kind crew. However, Just got out of a argument with a new incompetent young guy that thought he knew better what looked good on me. He was insisting on executing “his shape” (terrible btw) on my head more than what I asked for. He was being very impolite and out of control. Don’t recommend this place anymore.
Great spot. Ask for Sergy. Gives you a great cut every time. Just the way you want it.
I’ve been coming here for about two years now, and Serge always does a really good job. Nice guy, friendly, and listens carefully to what you want
I stopped in here in March of 2018 for a hot towel headshave. My barber went above and beyond and I got a great head shave and beard trim for $25. I would highly recommend this place to any bald guys who like the hot towel shave experience.
Great cut and good price. Also, short wait. Highly recommended!
Ive tried this barber shop 4 times with different people assuming that one of them might be better. Took me 6 months to understand that all of them are pretty much the same. They cut to only what they want and dont understand what the customer wants. That scissor will never touch my hair again.
I get a great short hair cut here, also my barber alex does a great job luckly for me I found this place.
Not sure why so many negative reviews. The prices are on the wall listed and if you want a fade, Ruben and the younger gentleman are always good. For NYC prices, this place is great for students. New Yorkers are just a bit harsh sometimes I think. I always get a fresh cut from here.
Not a great experience. Explained that I was growing my hair out and wanted a short trim. Showed a picture of exactly what I was going for. First thing my barber did was comb my hair over my eyes and cut off several inches. Lost 6 months of progress.Switched to a new barber (nice guy who knew what he was doing, Daniel I think) who gave me a solid short cut to fix up the mistake at a discount.
Where is Dori please don’t cut your hair on Ruben
Went in with a reference photo and instructions on minor variation that I wanted. A young guy (think his name is Alex) talked me through it, making sure he understand what I wanted. He was very professional and very effective - one of my favorite haircuts Ive gotten. 10/10
This place is great. This is that place you go to to get a good haircut, and then dont go anywhere else - even at risk of great inconvenience. Always worth the wait to get back here
Friendly and nice family run business. The young guy who cut my hair this morning - first person in - was organized, polite, kind, and an excellent hair stylist. Decent prices as well. Thank you!
Although the final result was pretty good, the service wasnt good at all. While cutting the hair the employer was talking to two other people in another language, he also received a call and kept cutting my hair while talking on the phone. The price was high taking in account the whole experience and they even charged me more because I wanted to pay with credit card (2$ extra). I wont repeat.
Good quality cuts. Ruben never disappoints. Definitely would recommend
The negative reviews on this place is very much warented. It is true that they are overpriced for the quality of service they provide. Yes, they charge 15$ for a simple beard trim. If it was a beard shave, I would say this is justified. But passing a hair clipper isnt. And in addition, I keep having the luck of getting stuck with what I would assume is the owners mom. For one thing, Im not sure she is licensed to cut hair. I dont see her license displayed anywhere. Also, the way she cuts hair makes me believe that she never went to school for this.I would stay clear of this place.
Pretty decent compared to the other barbershops in the area. Pros - 1. No Latino looking cuts 2. Usually speak English. Cons - based on your luck you get decent cuts or downright worst cuts imaginable. The people keep changing all the time, so havent been there recently. But you cant go too bad if you choose this.
Great service that doesn’t break the bank. I have found a few other barbers who offer a similar service for slightly less, but Ruben & co. are a dependable bunch.
First time i got a terrible haircut by a male barber there. Second time, i got a decent haircut from a female barber there. So average 3/5. Also they appear to be Eastern European in origin and not sure if they understand English so well.
Great cut. Lots of attention to detail. Ive never been so pleased with a cut as soon as it was done.
My barber was Arturo. Not a lot of conversation - showed him a photo and he was able to duplicate the look I was going for. I will continue getting my hair cut at Generations. Friendly, close by, good prices and great outcome!
Reliable, fast, efficient. This is a decent place to get your regular haircut.
The shop provides friendly and efficient service..
Nowhere is there mention of the fact that they charge $2.50 for transacting with a card, even if its a debit card. Theres only a sign suggesting they accept them on the front door. The haircut was average quality, and an OK price, but charging a hidden 12.5% transaction free is downright predatory.
Just dont ask for a hair wash.
Good service and pricing is ok.
I definitely didnt get a service like all other people who rated 4/5 star to this place got. The haircut was subpar (even for just a regular cut it short). The one who did my haircut seems like he wanted to plow my head like a rye field using the comb in his hand. I cant feel my scalp for quite a while after the haircut.Does not recommend unless you are looking for a really hard head(scalp) massage.
Look for Ruben. Hes the best. Others not so sure.
Went there for the two years I was here and they were always there with good service. They listen to their customers and do a great job. Highly recommend.
Always good service and they cut my hair the way I like it.
Went for the first time 9/9/17. Haircut was okay though a lot shorter than I asked for. Their website says a basic haircut is $15. The pricing chart in the wall says $20. They charged me $22. Thats still okay for a basic haircut in Manhattan but I left peeved about the bait-and-switch. Thus the review.
Terrible Job. Asked for a couple inches and proceeded to cut off almost all my hair. Could have been done by a child with a pair of safety scissors. Spend the extra $10 and get it done right.
Quick and dirty chop-shop. Would not go in again for real hair cut. Barber didn’t do a good job at all and had a bad attitude.
Good cut for half the cost if a salon. No reservation needed. I will be back.
Dont know about other barbers in this shop but this one woman with blonde hair cut my hair, and she did it exactly the way I did not want it. She speaks very little English, so thats understandable, but she didnt not even try to listen to the customer. And the whole time she looked like she didnt want to be there so she made very little effort so that she could finish the cut as soon as possible and take the money.
The woman who works there is rude, and unskilled as a barber. She also complains out loud if she doesnt think you tipped her enough. Ive had others in this shop cut my hair and I was pleased with their work, but if I ever go back there again I will gladly wait for a different barber.
Went home and buzzed my hair down to a 1 after a horrible haircut and rude service by the owner, barking at me that he prefers cash and no credit cards, before charging me extra with the card and not telling me until after I noticed on the receipt. Dont go here if you want a Good professional haircut.
Great haircut, quick service. They know what theyre doing
Ive been here once and had a very good experience. I went on a Saturday afternoon. There was no wait, the haircut was good, and it was only $17. You cant really beat that. Granted, I get a very simple haircut (trimmer on the sides and scissor trim the top). If you need someting more complicated, I cant really comment on the quality you will get there.
Great place with easy going staff that all cut hair pretty darn well. If you want an authentic New York Barbershop feel this is exactly the spot you are looking for.
Wonderful friendly people, very pleased with the result - usually do not post reviews.
This was the worst haircut Ive ever had in my entire life. My hair is jacked up and uneven and Im going to have to go someplace else and get it fixed.Whats worse, is the guy finished the haircut by taking off the bib thing they have you wear and blowdrying all the pieces of cut hair on my neck right into my shirt.
Been coming here since their grand opening. Its family-run with friendly service.
Solid barber shop, reasonably quick and friendly for a decent hair cut. Would recommend.
The place was dirty and disorganized - hair all over the place, dirty instruments, and there was even a kid running around. Also, my barber didnt even ask how short I wanted my hair cut. He started cutting right away, and ignored me several times when I told him I wanted it shorter. I went to this place because its close to me, but next time I wont mind going all the way to 3 Aces, where I know Ill get a good cut.
The owner is pretty intense and a little bit rude, I recommend the other barbers near 96th street.
One of the best haircuts in New York. I hope it doesnt get too popular :-)
20 dollars for a hair cut is fair, 15 dollars just for a basic beard trim is not !
There is one guy here who knows how to cut hair the rest try but dont do it well. Credit card machine is broken and the atm fee is $3
Worst experience since I was born. The barber was rude: he kept noding my head with a comb and I got very intensive shaving bumps around the back of my neck for the first time of my life. The pain lasts for days! Also they overcharged a fee for using cards.
I went here after seeing fair reviews. There were some poor ones but I figured what the heck.Well... This was a disaster. The baber barely speaks english, so i had to find photos that look like what i wanted (which was a teal simle cut). He then did it so poorly that i stopped him to explain again. That didnt work: he ignred me almoat completely and even said that im wasting his time. Eventually i juat said to stop and leave it as is. Paid him his 20 (wayyy too much) abd then he says,no tip my friend? i juat said no and left. And im neverever coming back to this place even if i have to cut my own hair with a a sharpened rock. Wow.
Fast, consistent quality, and the barbers dont want to chat. A perfect haircut.
Great cut! Great staff.
The new price of a regular cut in 2019 is $22.00. It’s $2.00 more than last year. So the tips also go higher.
Been going there for a year, always left with a nice haircut and the best of impressions. Very friendly people.
The haircut they do is barely acceptable. I went once and never returned.
Great place to get a haircut
Great haircut and very friendly
Great haircuts and great service. Ask for Ruben!
Clean, quick, good haircut exactly as I asked
Sat down and explained what I wanted and the barber either didnt listen or chose to do what he wanted to do..basically spent 20 bucks on an ugly haircut
Excellent wet shave
Way too expensive, not worth it.
Quick and efficient
Experienced barbers
They gave me a bowl cut
Not good.
