I’ve been going here and seeing Rudy for 7 years. Needless to say, he’s my guy! He always gives excellent cuts and is very accommodating to make sure you look just the ways you want. He is well aware of current style trends, and run his business with a relaxed friendly neighborhood feel. Walks are welcome, but I usually book half day in advance and a full day if want a cut on a Friday/Saturday evening. Over the years he has made upgrades to the shop and it’s nice to see. Takes credit cards and cash.

I’ve been getting my hair cut at Chelsea Gardens Barbershop for a while now and I can’t say enough good things about the place. I’ve always gotten a good haircut by several of the barbers there and I’m currently going to Rudy. The first time he cut my hair, I had already been wearing it a certain way for a while and I told him to give me the usual. He immediately threw out a suggestion that he do a skin fade on the sides and back and my first impulse was to say no but he said trust me, it’s going to look great. I decided to go with it since I always appreciate when a barber offers their own opinion/vision as to how they see your hair instead of just giving you what you ask for. With his suggestions, which included a couple of other tweaks, Rudy improved upon my current hairstyle and it looks better than ever. And with short hair, precision is everything and Rudy’s haircuts are extremely precise and cut very evenly. The prices can’t be beat and all the barbers are very friendly. If Rudy’s not available, ask for Ritchie.

Arthur did an amazing scissor cut for me. I am from out of town and was worried that they wouldnt know how to cut my hair. He took his time talked the cut through with me and really understood what I wanted. This will be my barbershop any time I come to NYC from now on. The skin fade he did for me on the sid is on fire.It was super easy I booked online and he took me on time. Everyone was wearing a mask and very friendly. The shop observed all covid-19 guide lines.

My hair is very straight and that makes it difficult to cut. Ive been going to Chelsea Gardens for about 7 years and I never leave disappointed. The staff is top notch and always friendly. Ive probably sat in every chair at this point, but if youve got straight hair like mine, you cant wrong with Richie or Rudy.

Rudys been cutting my hair since forever and its impossible to praise him too much. Hes knowledgeable, highly skilled, courteous, efficient, and has a great sense of style that he fine-tunes to suit each client. Took a trip to NYC and decided to get a haircut while I was there. Part of me just wanted to see how the vibe of a NYC barbershop differed from where I live. I got a quick, quality haircut from a guy named Mike ( at least that is what the name tag said on the barber stand I was at). I always explain my cut using terminology that my barbers use, but it turns out that not all barbers use the same terminology. He took the time to make sure he understood what I was looking to do. The only thing that they didnt do here which my barber at home does, is the hot lather neck/sideburn straight blade shave. It always cleans things up nice and makes for a good end to the haircut, but maybe this just isnt being done because of difficulty doing it with a mask on? Regardless, Im glad I stopped in. Thanks for the great cut!

Are you overwhelmed by the insane number of barber shops on 23rd street? Look no further. I’ve been coming to Chelsea Garden for years and am so glad it’s open again. Totally clean and totally safe, Chelsea Garden is definitely still the best barber shop on 23rd street — if not the best in the city. You can’t go wrong with any of the barbers here, I’ve never gotten a bad cut.

Being back at CHELSEA GARDENS BARBER after a 4 month absence I was thrilled to see RUDY back in his place of business. I longed to see him and make sure he was well and he was and to then wrk his barber-magic and tame my hair; he did giving me the best fade into a top mild mohawk and i felt like a star. Arthur did me good!I walked in looking like a cross between a lesbian and a 12 year old boy without much of an idea of what I wanted. He made sure to make me feel comfortable, asked for my opinion often, answered any questions I had, and gave me solid beard advice even though I was just in for a haircut. He understood my hair (Chinese porcupine head) better than my previous barber who I paid over fifty for. Under his expertise, I was finally able to take the plunge of cutting my sides shorter than Ive ever had for a popular style guys my age have and Ive been feeling good since.UPDATE (10/19/18): Got my hair cut again by Arthur a few days ago. Still killing it! I made an appointment but realized I couldnt make it so I tried to reschedule. I couldnt find a time that worked so I just cancelled it altogether. He noticed quickly and reached out to me. He was able to fit me into his schedule and gave me another awesome cut! Havent been feeling good about my hair lately so this was a definite self-esteem booster.

Was visiting from out of town and set up an appointment at a neighboring barbershop, when I accidentally arrived at this one I was mislead into believing my appointment was set with them even after asking specific questions that would have signaled the mistake to the staff - I don’t appreciate the dishonesty. It would have been okay if the haircut was what I wanted, but ended up having to go next door to the place i originally booked in with to have the fade fixed - I ended up paying for two haircuts.

Arthur is an exceptional gentleman. He takes time and has an art with his hand while he gives you the style that you want. He is also very good at the razor without giving you nicks. He listens, and is precise with his craft, Im so happy and trust him to be my barber. If I had a suitcase big enough I’d take him with me wherever I go! Thank you Arthur!

Before the pandemic, i went to a guy in the east village every 2 weeks. it’s totally out of my way, but worth it for the haircut. now it looks like he won’t be reopening, or not anytime soon, so i needed to find someone new.i read some reviews and finally chose the chelsea gardens barber shop. i randomly chose arthur to cut my hair using their online appointment system and i’m very happy i did! he gave me the best haircut i’ve had in a very long time - and this was his first time cutting my hair! my cut is simple so i expect anyone can do it reasonably well but arthur took it to a new level. i’m really happy with how i look and feel.the shop is clean and has a friendly vibe. i highly recommend seeing arthur for your haircut - he’ll be my new go-to guy! - but i imagine you can’t go wrong with anyone here.

Poor quality haircut compared to what their website is selling - modern haircuts. I know my hair well and explain what I want in detail by describing it AND showing pictures of previous haircuts Ive had. Plus I show videos and pictures of what Im looking for from various angles. I did this here and walked out with nothing more than a basic undercut and no attention to the style or texture I asked for. I kept referencing the pictures when he was done. I had to push to get more style out of my hair cut but kept being told it was good and how I want it. I finally asked him to texture the top but this verified the lazy approach to cutting my hair. Nothing more than a single quick cut with the texture scissors and him saying again, it is good. you will like it. I gave up on explaining what I needed done. Simply, this is not a place that cater[s] solely to males that are looking for upscale hair treatments.

Found on Google, made an online reservation for later the same day, went there 5 min early, and was served almost immediately. I was really happy with the haircut, especially considering that it was my first haircut in the US after moving here from Switzerland, and thats mostly because Rudy took the time to find the right length and style. He even had some great suggestions for my beard after the haircut. Definitely my new US barber of choice!

I am new to New York and upon arriving in the city, I needed to find a good place for a haircut. I have always been a Great Clips person, as it just seems to be the cheapest and easiest place to go. Since there are no Great Clips in Manhattan, I had to give in and find a barber shop. I ended up at Chelsea Garden Barber Shop after reading all of the positive reviews on Google. I walked in, sat right down, and Abe cut my hair. He did a great job from start to finish. He made sure he knew exactly what I wanted and he made it happen. Best of all - only $17! What a bargain! I am so glad to have found this place on my first haircut in the city and I will be returning to Abe regularly to cut my hair. I highly recommend him!

Rudy began as an apprentice to the old man who retired and has been running the shop with perfection ever since. They cut hair the way it should be cut, with scissors and skill, not just clippers. Made an appointment to see Rudy, but was shifted to another barber with no explanation. He gave me a decent cut. If youre going to offer appointments with a specific stylist, then honor them. I wont be returning.

Went for the first time this evening as a walk-in. Asked to get the side trimmed and a bit off the top. Cut way too high around my ears, moved my neck hairline up by 1/2, and cut my neck on both sides with a dull razor. Decent atmosphere, but terrible haircut.

Finding a good barber who knows how to cut your unique here is difficult, but I can finally say that I found my barber here in Chelsea. Rudy was amazing, he cut my hair just the way I want to. Definitely a good place to get a cut !!!

I got to have a nice convo while the guy cut my hair super accurate to the picture I provided - although I worried it was too long in the back, I said it was awesome cuz it ended up framing my face super well. I messed up the machine during the tip but they were super nice and didnt mind.Shortly after I left, I realized I should have asked for it shorter, so I came running back. Another guy offered to do it for free, which was super cool of him and he made it short as hell like I wanted (not the cleanest shave ever but it still went above and beyond my expectations considering it was a free touch up post-haircut).Heard about this place through Strands for Trans (a site listing barbershops that have a safe and gender-affirming environment for people who are trans). Surely enough, I said I wanted the cut super masculine and nobody batted an eye. Judgement free zone!Got a lot of compliments and felt great about the cut so I will be coming back here as soon as I need!

Ive had haircuts all over New York. Rudys is the best. I dont have the most complicated cut in the world, but boy it can be easy to screw up. Rudy and his staff seem to get whats on-trend and Im in and out of there in 15-20 minutes flat. I recommend booking an appointment because (I know at least) Rudy books up quickly.

I was referred to Rudy by a co-worker. Last night I made an appt online for 2:15 PM today. When I arrived at 2 PM Rudy (who is the man in the window) was working with a client and attempted to usher me to another barber. I then introduced myself and said I was his 2:15 appointment. Rudy then told me he was busy and that someone else would take me.Well, the reason I booked an appt with Rudy is because I’m VERY particular about my fades and really liked my co-workers. I don’t understand the purpose of online booking if you don’t honor those appointments here in 2018. Being that it’s a holiday weekend and I was leaving town I tried Arthur which needless to say was a mistake. The fade is uneven and it looks nothing like the photo I showed him. When I was in the chair it was clear he took one side up to high but i wasn’t going to play the let’s “even this out” game so I told him to finish and went to another salon down the street to finish it. I would never come back to this establishment nor would I recommend anyone to this shop.
