I lived in a studio in Blackstone for a year! It was a great apartment, especially during the pandemic! My place had a great floor plan, and space! If you are looking to live somewhere near the city with proper access to everything this is the place! They also have people who clean the halls and common spaces everyday, literally everyday people are there to clean. The office staff is great, I was planning on staying and they helped me so much to try and find the a bigger apartment but I got a job out of state. I would always recommend anyone I know to live here. I know past reviews have issues. Those are from so long ago and not current with how things are now. My only negative, is that laundry is in a common space and others who use it are not poignant when it comes to getting their items.
Didnt finish my application but still took my money. See the other ratings I guess it was good I didnt move in here.
Lived in a studio in fairmont for a year and overall, really liked the place. It was practical - great neighborhood for walks/runs and walking distance from walgreens and coffee shops. I only saw a or two bugs in my apartment and the interior/exterior of the building was regularly kept clean by a crew. The laundry machines in the laundry room were the only point of frustration for me as sometimes they wouldnt drain or dry clothes and youd have to swipe your cc 20 times before working. However, would recommend this place for anyone that is looking for living in the energy of downtown while experiencing some peace.
You get what you paid for. The only great thing its in a good location and its near 21st ave.Thank you,
Me and my wife inquired about an apartment at blackstone. They called us back to come look. The woman who showed us claimed shed only worked there two weeks! She showed us four different apartments but not before talking to us a bit. In that discussion we asked how they decided who gets approved. She told us income to debt ratio, credit, and backround. My husband admitted that he had felonies and that he was on community corrections and that he was trying to change his life and start over. He then explained what happend and how he ended up pleading out to the charge. She gave us hope, told us worse case scenario would be that we would have to pay a full months deposit! But that since covid19. That deposits were starting at 250.00. My point is that they did all this to get the 160.00 application fee. She immediately knew we wouldnt be approved because of my criminal background. I told her before she showed us the apartmens. Fact is they are out to take your money. So be aware if you have ANY kind of criminal backround even if they tell you it doesnt matter they are taking 160.00!!! The apartments are old i seen a huge dead bug in the floor in one of the apartments and no where to park not to mention mold. This place is EVIL. They have $ for pupils. The reason they turned us down was because of a bad check!!!
Lived in the Lee Building. Apartment itself is not terrible, but its not great either. Lousy old floorboards and unsightly plumbing. Old elevator seems charming until you realize it means you have to carry furniture up as many as 5 flights of stairs. Not enough laundry machines for the whole building and people are always inconsiderate about leaving their own clothes and moving yours. Best part is the location, if being close to Vanderbilt campus is a concern, but it also means a lot of loud noises between St. Thomas hospital and the nearby music venues. The aforementioned complaints would probably have caused me to give this place about 3 stars, but the dreadful management earned Blackstone Lee its 1 star review. At their best, employees are absent-minded and indifferent (I once called when I went out of town and found out my roommate had left the door unlocked and asked if they would be able to lock the door for me. They said they would, but I returned to an unlocked door, nothing stolen thankfully) and at their worst they are downright antagonistic. Called the office three weeks before our lease was up to confirm when our lease was up and if there was anything we needed to do between then and that date. Later, when we actually planned to move out, we were told we needed to give 60 days notice to end our lease and were forced to pay another 30 days rent. To make matters worse, upon move out we were charged a fee for leaving the bathrooms ALMOST EXACTLY HOW THEY LOOKED WHEN WE MOVED IN.If you are considering any other place to live, live there instead, even if it means commuting. The desirable location is not worth the overpriced rent and its management has no respect for residents.
I am a recent transfer to Nashville, Tennessee for a job opportunity. When looking for apartment, I wanted to get the feel of living in a big city without being directly downtown. Blackstone was a top contender for me to consider because it is within five miles of the downtown area. It’s an easy commute when you’re seeking downtown activity but is a restful and quiet place to come back to at the end of the night. It is within walking distance to downtown, not to mention all of the awesome restaurants, bars, and music venues. When I’m not walking to local businesses, which is most of the time, I only choose to drive to the grocery store. Blackstone makes living and having fun convenient.I looked at a lot of different places and chose the one because unlike the other properties, this property has character and the people working here aren’t cheesy folks who will tell you anything to get you to sign a lease. Without them having to sell them to me, I was sold on the windows. I have multiple, large windows with unobstructed views. It makes waking up in the morning much more pleasant.
I absolutely loved living at Blackstone. The management was the best Ive ever dealt with, and the office will bend over backwards to make sure that their residents are happy. I lived here for the past year, and moved out only because I had to relocate. The apartments themselves are on the older side -- but to me, that was their charm. They had hard wood floors and cute remnants of times past (such as a built in telephone shelf), but the kitchens were remodeled somewhat recently and have nice appliances. The building is close to everything, and midtown is just a skip away. Parking was a slight pain, Ill give you, but it was never all that annoying to me. Also, if thats a real issue for you, there is a numbered lot in which you can rent out a specific spot. The gym is well-equipped, the maintenance staff is incredibly nice, helpful, and quick, and the little park area outside the front of the building makes for a pretty great view. Also, if you take any public transit, the West End bus stop is literally right outside the front door.Loved my experience here!!
The location is great and the management staff, especially Rosa, is amazing. The building is within walking distance to the park, grocery store, many restaurants, and coffee shops. The maintenance team responds very quickly to repair issues and they have an online portal to log maintenance needs conveniently. The management staff is very responsive by email and even proactive depending on the situation. The biggest problem is the other tenets who dont pick up dog poop on the front lawn and it is easy to step in it by accident when youre walking home to the building, gross. However, even on this front, the management has been very active in monitoring the offenders.
Current resident. This is the worst experience with an apartment. Rent for my apartment is $1600 a month. Very high and you do not get your moneys worth. I constantly have to call maintenance for issues such as clogged sinks, no hot or cold water, no water at all, and doors not latching properly. On occasions I will see massive cockroaches in my closets or run from under my bed. The basement where you do laundry frequently floods and large cockroaches are also common in this area. The elevator is extremely old and gets jammed randomly and is un usable. The elevator is so old it still has the sliding gate which gets stuck. To do laundry here, you have to load money onto a provided card. The machine you use to load the card will not always accept bills. Recently, the machine went three days without servicing and would not accept bills. I had to walk all the way over to the office location to load my laundry card.MOST IMPORTANTLY, the office staff is horrible! They never answer the phone and are rarely in the office during business hours. In one case I waited at the office from 12pm to 4pm on a weekday to drop off my rent check. No one ever showed up. It seems like they are only in the office when they want to be and answer the phone if they feel like it. The maintenance man talks and swears to himself while he is in our apartment attempting a repair. There was an incident with another resident in which he found out that a maintenance man or construction worker was hiding in his closet when he came home. The resident had no clue he was in the apartment until he went to bed and heard the worker trying to leave.Very noisy location do to construction, traffic, and the two parking garages. The parking garages will generally sound off in the middle of the night with unattended car alarms.I will not be renewing my lease at the Blackstone & Lee Apartments.
Not sure how the management.... but looking outside & the location... really ROCKS.... some of them say very noisy location... it is in the middle of the city.... West End is Always BUSY....
I still live here unfortunately - at least for a few months. I cant say this with more feeling - Dont rent from these people! For the rent they charge they are lazy, rude, inconsiderate. Certainly this is not the place for you if you expect to get packages from UPS, post office, FedEx. They cant get in the bldg. And the management doesnt care at all if you never get a package delivered. They have told me as much when I addressed this issue with them. Jasmine told me in a very rude way to check my lease, I didnt have any entitlement to get a package where I live at the Lee Apartments. There are package lockers out front not used for who know how long and the management and the post office arent interested in doing anything about it. Theyll tell you anything to get you in and then drop you like a hot rock. I cant wait until I can leave here. I wouldnt recommend the Lee Apartments to anybody.
This is for the Fairmont. The only good things about these apartments are location and the gym that they have. The noise is horrible, and for the last 6 months since Ive lived here, there have been outside contractors in the apartments daily. They dont respect your privacy and will try to enter your apartment without notice. The place is treated like a workplace rather than a residential building. You do not get what you paid for. Even the upper management is rude with entering apartments and does not make an effort to respect resident privacy.
FAIRMONT APARTMENTS ARE DISASTERS. THE FIRE EXIT DOORS INSIDE THE HALL ARE OUT NEVER BEEN REPLACED.THE HALL WAY CARPETS ARE SMELLY ALWAYS SMELL DOG POOP.THE ELEVATOR IS ANCIENT AND IT HAS ITS ON MIND WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TO.THE APARTMENTS WALLS ARE MOLDY BUT YOU CAN ONLY SEE THAT DURING HOT WEATHER.THEIR WINDOW HEAT SPACE DO NOT PERFORM WELL THEY TAKE THE WHOLE DAY TO HEAT UP THE ICE COLD APARTMENTS AND THEY ARE ONLY IN THE LIVING ROOMS.GIANT BUGS DURING THE SUMMER WEATHER AND ITS VERY HOT INSIDE.THE MANAGEMENT IS PATHETIC THEY EMPLOY CHEAP MEXICAN LABOR TO DO A SHADY JOB AND OF COURSE THE MAINTENANCE GUY DOES THE SAME JUST WALK AROUND DELEGATE HIS SPANISH HANDY MEN AND DO NOTHING.THE MANAGER NEVER THERE TO TALK TO CUSTOMERS ALWAYS GONE AND VERY POMPOUS.PARKING HAVING SOME CARS THAT HAVE NOT MOVED FOR TWO YEARS BELONGING TO MANAGEMENT TAKING SPACE FOR THE RESIDENCY WHO ACTUALLY PAY.CUTE ON THE OUTSIDE BUT FALLING APART IN THE INSIDE AND THE MANAGERS DOES NOTHING ABOUT IT.YOU END UP SPENDING MORE MONEY TO KEEP YOUR SELF COMFORTABLE THAN WHAT THE MANAGERS OFFER UNLESS YOU ARE THEIR FRIENDS THEN THEY HOOK YOU UP AND THE REST SUFFER.THE AREA IS WHAT YOU PAY FOR NOT THE LIVING HERE. IT IS WASTE OF MONEY. THE MOLDY WALLS ARE A HEALTHY HAZARD BUT MOST PEOPLE DONT EVEN KNOW.VERY COLD DURING WINTER AND VERY DUSTY DURING SUMMER.
The only good thing about this apartment complex was the character of the 1920s building and the location. The maintenance team cared nothing for the integrity of the building and the work they did in my apartment was shoddy, hurried and incomplete. They chopped the edge of my bathroom door off, leaving debris all over my sink and in my toilet bowl. The foyer usually stank and there was a puddle at the top of the stair well. The elevator door did not work properly on the 5th floor and so I often found myself walking up 6 flights of stairs. The management is less than adequate. They were not true to their word or honorable in their dealings with me. I would not trust them and I would look elsewhere to live. Save yourself the frustration and look for somewhere else to live.
Its a decent, but old apartment building. And as an old building, it has style that you wont find in many other places. Im 66 and I LOVE the tall (very tall) ceilings. It also randomly has interesting little things like French doors that connect my dining room to my kitchen, and a fun little windowd cupboard in my dining room for nice plates, glasses, or whatever you want to display (Im sure theres a proper term for this cabinet, but I have no clue). Finally, the wood floors everywhere are pretty solid. On the other hand, as an older building, youll also find that some units wont have outlets in certain rooms. Im talking about your bathroom. I dont have an outlet in my bathroom, and when asked, management said they dont plan to install one.Overall perks: decent gym facility in the Blackstone with all new equipment, pet friendly, high ceilings, hardwood floors, GREAT location.Overall detractions: I pay $1250 for a one bedroom unit with a very outdated bathroom and a small kitchen (I LOVE to cook). Also, you will probably have pest problems, Ive dealt on-and-off with cockroaches for years, and this year developed a rodent problem in my bedroom walls and kitchen. Finally, chances are good that the people you sign with will not be the ones you will have when you leave. Ive also been here for 3.5yrs and have had four managers (three different owners of the building): two managers were great, one was terrible (she left!), and the current folks are pretty solid (Jennifer and Andrea).Id recommend stopping by and viewing a unit if youre in the area. They are NOT cookie cutter apartments*** and each has a fun, unique character that you might like if you have the money to pay for it. And if you do move in, exchange numbers and get to know your neighbors. There are some pretty cool people around here and I like to throw dinner parties for my friends in the building.***Kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living room, and dining room sizes WILL vary. If I had to do it again, I would have looked for a unit with a bigger kitchen and better natural lighting.***
Living in this apartment building is a nightmare. The building is decaying and the management lacks both the resources and interest to maintain it. Within days of moving in, the US Postal service refused to make further deliveries due to the decrepit condition of the mailboxes. Among the issues, outgoing mail was being thrown into an open pile. As a consequence, residents were forced to retrieve mail on a daily basis from the post office. A situation that persisted for weeks.Shortly thereafter the elevator broke. Living on the fifth floor, I had no way to move furniture into my new apartment for several months. And yes, literally months passed before the elevator was operational again.During July my air conditioning broke. It reached over 90 degrees in my apartment and I was forced to board my dog at the veterinarian because of the dangerous heat in my home. It took over a month- the entire month of July- for the air-conditioning to be fixed. I was charged full rent for this period.During the winter the heat stopped working. This time it took more than two entire months for the climate control to be fixed. I went the entirety of December and January with no heat. Again I was forced to pay full rent.If you’re keeping track, that is three months without heat or air-conditioning. That means one out of every four days this year I have had a miserably hot or freezing apartment. The management has offered no discounts or reimbursements for this experience. The key problem seems to be the people running the apartment building. They don’t care about you. They only care about their money. They will misrepresent the parking situation when you move in- so be very wary. They say there is a list for paid parking, but people can circumvent the list by saying they won’t sign a lease unless given a parking spot. Otherwise, the majority of the parking is on the street. The back lot is tiny and it is absolutely possible someone will park behind you and make it impossible for you to leave for work the next day.Worst of all is the scam management pulled 6 months into my one year lease. They gave me two options. Pay a huge increase in monthly rent for any future time leased at the apartment. Or, pay a small increase (to begin immediately) and extend my lease to two full years! Like I said, they are bad people. So now I’m stuck paying higher rent and trapped in a much longer lease!I’ll admit, the cockroach problem is better. They used to be everywhere on the ground floor and laundry room. Dead insects would lie in the hallways and on the staircases for weeks at a time. They are sweeping more regularly I guess.Several weeks ago the magnetic door locks on the building failed. Again, the problem went unresolved for weeks. There was no security for the building as all the entrances could be used without keycards. For the last couple of weeks, the front entrance to the building has been roped off. Inside the vestibule a wall has been torn down, and standing water has been intermittently observed on the floor. They have offered no explanation for the closure of the entrance and no time frame for the wall to be fixed.Sometime ago I awoke to the sound of dripping in my closet. I reported the leak to the office and no one ever came to fix it. So, after several days went by, I turned in an electronic maintenance request. Again, no one came to fix it. I went back to the office and complained again. Ultimately, after two weeks, with the closet water damaged, mold covered, and the paint separating from the walls, someone came to fix it and clean it up.It is now August, and I am one month into the second year of this lease I was screwed into signing. Tonight, the air-conditioned stopped working. It is over 80 degrees and I fully expect this problem to persist for several weeks. The Blackstone Apartments of Nashville are the Apartments of Hell.Bad building. Bad management.
This apartment building has the following problems. First, in the winter the heating doesnt turn on until its 38 degrees, and the radiator heaters hiss. Second, the plumbing is typically terrible, so youll need at least a bottle and a half of drano on your first day to use half a bottle to unclog your bath tub, bathroom sink, and kitchen sink. At first my tub took ten minutes to drain, after the treatment with drano, it took two, and stopped backfilling when taking a shower. Third, buy the ant killers that have the bait which take the poison back to the hive and place them in your corners. Fourth, the building is old and has lead paint underneath the current paint, so lead dust may be a problem. They put a thick coat of paint over everything to solve the problem. Fifth, the entire building isnt level, so none of the kitchen cabinet doors shut properly. Sixth, the rent price is low, and so are utilities, but they skimp on heating, maintenance, and water by using a water saver in the toilet tank, not turning on the heat until its 38 degrees, and by taking a neglectful amount of time to respond to maintenance requests. Dont be fooled, this place isnt a nice or as happy as it seems.
Dont do it! The apartments seem to have character at the first glance but are HORRIBLY maintained.Throughout my lease, I had pest, water, heating and cooling, and an abundance of general maintainence issues. My furnace created a huge water leak in my room and the issues were not corrected. The lack of security is the worst issue about this place. Random people would sleep on the couch in the lobby of Lee, and people left the doors propped open and unlocked 24/7.The general lack of genuine care from the Management is the biggest let down. Living in an old building means issues, but these far exceeded any other historic building/ house I lived in. This company is not BBB accredited for a reason!DONT DO IT!
Within rhe first month of living in the Lee building, I had several issues with dripping pipes in my ceiling, roaches everywhere, the stove was not fully installed, and generally the new basement unit was nowhere near ready to be rented out. Management did not communicate maintenance needs to the maintenance workers in a timely fashion (though the maintenance workers are great - very friendly and quick to respond to the emergency maintenance line). I have gone months without having pest control visit as management will not give warning to when they send someone to service the unit, and so I never know to put my dog away for them. Laundry facilities are nearly never 100% functional and often go months without issues being addressed. Finally, in the winter months, the radiator is loud enough to keep you awake through the night and is kept at an incredibly high temp. I see several neighbors leave their windows open during even snowy weather, though mine do not open so I must keep the ac on full blast just to get near a bearable temp. While I thought the location of this building would be reason enough to move here, it is not worth the constant struggle with the facilities and lack of management care at well overcharged rates. I would not suggest moving to the Lee building.
Broke a one year lease 6 months early and 4 years later the Lee apartments are suing me for nearly $4,000!!! I broke the lease because of the mice in the walls and in my apartment. Also I had made over 5 maintenance requests in a matter of a few months, mostly for leaking plumbing. DO NOT LIVE HERE..there were also cockroaches all in the stairwell.
New owners, new management and updates in the apartment interiors, common areas, and amenities.
DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! Management is pathetic, there is no parking and maintenance is usually unavailable. Stay away!!
