I love the strength focused workouts, the community, and the competition that classes bring. I’ve done many workout classes and styles over the years and SOTA is by far my favorite!!!
Love this place. First and foremost, they have been doing a great job in quickly responding to Covid-19 updates and pivoting their business to make sure their clients can still workout even when shut down. Second, the classes are amazing! The coaches push me to be better and the class style motivates me to show up and give it my all. Thirdly, they do their best to accommodate your needs! I am in need of a treadmill during the icy winter months and they were more than accommodating to try to find a way for me to jump on theirs and use it. I cannot get enough of this place! Keep it up Sota Team!
I love this place! It has been my saving grace of 2020. I love Every coach, every workout and every burpee. This gym is welcoming and inviting and is perfect for anyone looking to get a good workout.I highly recommend adding a personal training session into your routine ❤️
Sotas staff that Ive met - Phil, Kira, and Shelby - have all been extremely welcoming, inviting, and friendly. And they will make you work during their classes.The gym is a great facility and the equipment is in superb condition.I really enjoy the classes here. Id recommend this gym to anyone, especially those that prefer tabata/HIIT style class environments for their workouts.
The coaches are excellent. I love the fact that all i have to do is show up and work out. The fact that I dont need to think about anything other than working out is awesome.
I have been to well over 50 different gyms/classes/studios around the Twin Cities and Sota Fitness is one of the best/hardest HIIT classes Ive taken. Coaches are super welcoming and do a great job pushing you. Always walk out sweating and feeling great!
SOTA Fitness has done an amazing job reopening and keeping it safe to work out in their gym. Personal training with Shelby and even sometimes with Phil is always fun, challenging and professional. Highly recommend this gym.

I like how SOTA has a real sense of community amongst both the trainers and the clients; the intensity of the HIIT workouts; willingness of the SOTA staff to tailor any workout/diet plans to the client; and overall openness of Phil to seek out client feedback and make focused, iterative changes at SOTA to reflect what the community wants.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff that are easy to talk to. Great community of people. Classes are tough, but scalable according to each persons ability. Nobody is shamed for being too fat, too old, or too slow. Just challenge yourself!
I arrived at SOTA Fitness worried that my age and training level would not be a very good match for a private training gym, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. After an extensive, free assessment Phil was able to tailor each and every workout to my needs and level so that I could make incremental but tangible progress every time. Phil and Derek are both unfailingly encouraging throughout every session. I strongly recommend SOTA Fitness to anyone looking to improve their current level of fitness, at whatever point they start.
I really enjoyed the class I attended here! Great motivational music, educated instructor, and fun exercises. You really can push yourself, or work at your own pace.
My first time at SOTA Fitness was for a Saturday Total Body Strength class with Elliot, and it was so great! The studio vibe was very welcoming, and the class flew by because you are constantly moving and switching it up.If you are reading reviews trying to decide if you should check this place out, DO IT. I cannot wait to go back!

SOTA is a great gym. Ive been going for 5 months now and its more than just a gym or a workout. The trainers are knowledgeable, helpful, patient, willing to educate (especially for someone with little athletic experience like myself), and love what they do.The people you work out with are friendly and include individuals from all fitness levels.The results? Just started the program, but I like the level of accountability Sota offers with MyFitnessPal, emails, and texts. I also like the efficient workouts, nutrition help, and recovery help. They care about the whole process not just the workouts. :)Update: Judgement Free Zone! Each trainer is positive and motivating without adding too much pressure; they encourage safety and proper form above all else. They are very knowledgable on how different exercises/movements operate for different body types, and adjust the workouts accordingly. These aspects have made our experience excellent. We have learned a lot, not hurt ourselves, and grown in strength. We love SOTA!

Ive been working out at SOTA Fitness with Phil who is helping me get back on track both physically and from a nutrition perspective. Phil and the team and SOTA run the most high quality comprehensive training facility I have seen in my many years as an athlete. Yes they understand strength training, but it’s the extra that sets them apart. I also learned about diet, weight loss, aerobic gains and motivation, all the while it was a positive environment that made me feel both supported and like you belong there. It’s a unique place, and it is worth the price.
I just started at SOTA about a month ago and I’m hooked! The workouts are tough but Phil and Ali make modifications for what level of fitness people may be at. There is a good mix of men and women and i have never felt intimidated by the instructors or others working out. It is an intimate setting and the instructors Phil and Ali always greet you by name which is always welcoming. I have never been an early riser and have never been motivated to get up and workout at a big box gym no matter how much I wanted to. I am now getting up 3 or 4 mornings a week for 5:30 classes and starting to see a difference on the scale!
Great workout in a fun fitness environment. The hour session flew by! Instructors are extremely mindful of participants’ prior injuries and experience levels and will make modifications as needed so everyone can participate.
SOTA Fitness is great! My son and I are working with Phil, and he is fantastic to work with. He has a good combination of kindness and motivation, pushing us just enough as we need to. And I love how much he cares about nutrition and teaching that alongside fitness. So important!
Ive been working with Phil for 18 months; better results than any other thing I have tried. He not only works on what to do, frequency, and how to do it- but the food guidance has been integral in the results.The classes are fun and challenging with enough mix to keep it interesting. You know when youre done! I also do one on one training to get to my goal faster. Great guy and excellent trainer.I also run half marathons and while we dont focus specifically on running strength, Ive achieved my best times in 5 years just from leg work and increased stamina. Best I have ever felt: stronger, more definition and 20 lbs. lighter. Not done yet...Update: new classes with Blake provide more variety and flexibility in scheduling. He is also great.Side effect: improve golf game with much longer drive from core strength. Very pleased with Sota and highly recommend.

Ive been going to SOTA since June 2017. The workouts are challenging and motivating FAR beyond anything I could do for myself. All of the instructors are knowledgeable and I never feel neglected during a workout, regardless of class size. I couldnt be happier to have this awesome place to work out!

Phil is great. If you follow his training and diet program you will see amazing results. He is very results focused so it is easy to stay motivated and on track. The workouts are tough and change quite a bit, but after you will feel great.

Phil does a great job of mixing it up and tailors the workouts to me based on my strengths and weaknesses as well as my own goals. I like that I can do one-on-one training and also do the classes - its a great way to be able to pick and choose your workouts to fit within a busy week. Hes a very knowledgeable trainer, a nice guy and Im happy with the results Im getting from working out with him.

Ive worked with a lot of trainers, and Phillip is one of the very best. Phil is an excellent personal trainer. His group classes are also very good. Ive lost almost 20 pounds since December 2015. This has been accomplished with the help and encouragement from Phil. Ive recommended him to many friends, two of whom are now training with him.

The trainers constantly change workouts up so it doesn’t get repetitive and they push you further each time to help you achieve goals. Sota provides a great culture and workout community. I have never liked working out but now can’t imagine life without Sota.

My experience thus far with Phil has been absolutely amazing! He is hands down the best personal trainer I have ever worked with. Everything from his HIIT style classes to our 1-1 sessions, he is there to make you WORK. With a perfect combination of nutrition, fitness education, and workout plans- he fits the mold. He is able to modify most exercises if you have any past injuries or surgeries. He also keeps track to make sure that you are making healthy positive lifestyle choices, which is what I needed! Phillip is a wonderful trainer. He is able to tailor workouts, be that individual or group, to your unique body, goals, and ability. His circuits are dynamic and exciting, moving quickly from one exercise on to the next, so you never get bored and you keep your heart rate up and body engaged. When I train with Phil ad hour flies by and before I know it, Ive already completed another kicka** workout. His expertise in nutrition is also extremely helpful with meal planning and tips/tricks to eat healthier and just have a healthier lifestyle overall. I could not recommend Phil any higher. 5+ stars, all the way!
I visited SOTA Fitness during an open house. The staff and customers were warm and friendly. During the winter months Ill probably join this group to stay in shape.
I love love love SOTA Fitness. I was both inspired and intimidated when my friends talked about SOTA but I took the plunge with their Groupon. Strength training has never been my forte but none of the instructors made me feel bad or inferior. They helped me adjust as needed and pushed me to improve my form and my strength. The classes are never the same and they cycle through movements so Im never bored or wishing the class was over.I was regularly motivated to wake up early thanks to the accountability of signing up with the app. There are not many things I like to be awake for at 5:30 am but SOTA is one of them.Most notably, I have never been able to do a full burpee with correct form and now I confidently can. Coming from someone with minimal upper body strength, this is exciting to see the improvements. Thanks, Phil!!

Loved working out at this place this morning. The atmosphere was friendly and encouraging. It was a hard workout dont get me wrong, but it was extremely funnnn
Good equipment, friendly people, very large parking lot and clean showers and locker rooms not to over crowded so space for workout is available safe environment also lockers provided but just to be safe and cautious.
Phil does a great job of teaching a fun, fast paced workout that leaves you feeling great. If we move to Minnesota we will join!
I started working out with Phil and his team back in August 2017, 7 months later Im hooked! He motivates you and doesnt sugar coat things, he says it like it is. This isnt your fancy gym, you go to class, you work hard and in the end it pays off! Ive lost 8 lbs which doesnt sound much but I didnt need to lose much, but the inches have fallen off and Im being told, wow, you look the best you ever have The most important part is how you feel and it couldnt feel better! Age is not a deciding factor in joining this gym, Im 50+ and still going strong! 5 stars go to Sota Fitness and all the team, that includes the members too!
I have tried everything under the sun to try and shed pounds over the past 10+ years! Phil offers expertise in both training and nutrition. His 1:1 training and HIIT classes have changed my life. I continue to shed weight and feel great doing it. The 1:1 sessions are excellent, he shows me the correct technique for strength training and pushes me to do my best. I feel so comfortable in his HIIT Classes. Everyone is so friendly and we all encourage each other to push on. He constantly reminds me to stick with it no matter what life throws my way. I never thought I would say I enjoy working out and eating healthy. Thank you Phil!

I highly recommend Sota Fitness if you are looking to really get fit and make changes in your lifestyle. What I love about Sota Fitness is their programmatic approach to your fitness. Their attention is not just focused on you on the day you show up to do your workout. They give attention to your nutrition, recovery, and lifestyle changes you can make outside of the gym too. I have been working primarily with Phil doing one-on-one training; but all of there trainers are outstanding professionals! Ive been doing HIIT classes with Phil for over a year. I love the variety and intensity. I especially appreciate his attention to detail to avoid any unnecessary injuries. We burn between 200-400 cals per class and reach heart zones of 110+. In addition to carefully monitoring your technique; Phil is excellent at pushing you to next level. The other AWESOME thing to know Phil is that he raises money for charity by committing proceeds from his classes - Impressive! I highly recommend Phil as a group fitness trainer and to anyone who has ever been injured in a group fitness classes. Phil will be paying attention to you and making sure you reach your goals injury-free.

Phil is the best trainer I have ever worked with! He helped me lose nearly sixty pounds and completely transform my health and appearance. He has a complete diet and excercise program that helps you eat properly, get into great shape and feel much better. I havent ever been in this good of shape in my life! He really helps working people like me who are overweight and out of shape change their lives. His work outs incorporate high intensity interval training (HIIT) along with many types of strength training. He gives you a complete menu to follow. I LOVE Sota Fitness!! Ive been coming here for a few months now and if you want to burn some calories this is your place. Its interval training so there is a good mix of strength training and cardio.The trainers are all really nice, not intimidating, very supportive, and always willing to help you find a modification if needed. I also like that normal people attend these classes-- meaning people come here to workout not look pretty and flaunt their latest purchase from lululemon. I was really nervous to come at first but so glad I did.

I have had the best experience since signing up at Sota Fitness and I would highly recommend this gym. I first registered as part of a six week challenge (where I lost 11 1/2 pounds and 7 inches)! I was taught proper form during the workouts and there was also a very helpful nutritional piece (including recipes) built in to help you succeed. I ended up continuing on after the challenge was over because I love so many things about this place. As a busy, working mom, I struggled with making my workouts a priority. One of the things that I love about Sota is all of the workouts are pre-planned, always different, and always challenging (but scalable). It allows everyone, at any level, to get a great workout at every class. I also love that I can show up exhausted and not have to think about what I need to do. I just have to follow along to get a great workout. The trainers (all of them) are extremely knowledgable and truly care about each member. They walk around class to help with form or questions and they are always cheering you on. It’s apparent that they love what they do and that they are doing what they were meant to do. One of my last Sota loves is the community atmosphere. Everyone is extremely supportive to one another and wants to see others hit their goals. Going to Sota has been much more than just a gym to me and I am very grateful to have found such a great workout family. Thank you Phil for your constant help and motivation! You can be very proud of the community that you built.
I do classpass and Phillip Schrupp is my top two of all the different options I have tried. It brings me back to my soccer training days ;) He always mixes it up and gets the hard to train areas! Class is hard but motivating. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and especially guys if they are looking for a good workout. Now that it is getting nice out we do things outside too. Lots of different exercises and very muscle toning. I see huge results, we use bikes, Dumbbells, TRX bands, sleds, medicine balls etc. there is so much variety! It is like a personal training session with 6 other ppl (give or take). I tell all my friends and will continue to go. Good for legs, arms, abs and conditioning. He modifies his training very easily for beginners too and very hard for advanced workouts if wanted. He is very motivating too! Definitely 5 out of 5 stars for him. Would use as personal trainer too!!

SOTA Fitness is awesome! Phillip does a great job mixing in Tabata, HIIT, endurance and strength. They use everything- outdoor running, TRX, rowers, mini bands, weights, etc. Love this place so much!
Sota fitness by far has been my favorite gym. The classes are well structured and the people who go become like a second family. Phil is a phenomenal trainer with great workouts for personal training and HIIT classes. Nutrition is a huge aspect of a healthy lifestyle and Phil really helps educate you on foods and structure to your meals. Working out in public was never ideal for me but I felt so welcome every time I came to a class or personal training session. Sota fitness also has an extremely clean gym which some facilities lack on.Hands down Sota fitness has my vote for best gym in MN.

Phillip Schrupp is a great trainer. He takes care planning out his bootcamps so that theyre tailored and tough! He is very motivating with his encouragement and he keeps you going even though you might want to stop. He is good at giving modifications if youre a beginner. I love his HIIT style bootcamps. Theyre always different but focused and they leave you beat...in a great way. His personal training session are also fantastic and tailored. I am so glad I was introduced to Phil! One of the best trainers around. I highly recommend his bootcamps and PT sessions!
