My kid recently moved into WaHu apts. I have very little experience dealing with such a large apartment complex and corporation. Prior to signing a lease, Mathew was extremely helpful answering all my concerns whether on the phone or replying to my emails, even showing us around during a last minute visit to UMN. Mathew has since left and now Christian has thankfully replied to my inquiries- making sure we had all our forms signed to move in, but also recently with a failed UPS delivery. He went above and beyond trying to track down boxes I sent; talking to their UPS delivery person and alerting me the boxes arrived. Although Ive not been able to get anyone on the phone at the moment and the apt need quite a few repairs upon moving in- which have been completed- Im very happy that my emails are quickly answered and with a cheerful attitude. Heres hoping for a safe school year ahead.

Was visiting a friend for the weekend in Minneapolis and she brought me by her apartment at Wahu. The complex was very nice and everyone was very friendly while I was there. I liked that its pet friendly too! My friend was able to have a dog and they had a great outdoor area to walk them. If I lived in Minneapolis, Id consider living at Wahu for sure!

Stay here if you want:1) No hot water at least once per month. Since July, I think hot water probably gone out at least 5 times.2) Swimming pool that you cant use. Its been closed for 1.5 years3) Unmaintained patio/bbq grills4) Printer that works 1 out of 5 times5) Unknown liquid dripping from above elevator door7) Pool table that is there for display with no cues or balls8) Understaffed front desk/office that will cause you to wait for packages to be processed before you can take them since there is literally only 2 people working. Kudos to the remaining staff for putting up with everything from both awful upper management and grumpy tenants.9) A leasing office that promises something so you will sign a lease only to give fake excuses and renege on previous agreementsSave your money and time. Stay somewhere else ;)Edit: Beware *some* good reviews were given since occasionally the apartment would do events like giving out free stuff in return for a google review (Good or bad)

I am giving one star because I cant give zero. After talking to the community manager, I decided to leave this Google review and let everyone know such a disappointing incident happened when living at Wahu.(Brief conclusion)I was asked to turn in my old sticker to exchange for the new parking permit, so I removed the parking permit sticker from my car. In the meanwhile, my car was towed at night because I removed the old sticker.(Additional information)1. I was requested to submit the parking permit application form to ensure that Wahu was informed, which I did.2. Without a remote control, you have no way entering the area where I parked my car.3. The new permit of the parking space is not present in the pile of permits they have. Therefore, they should fully know that the car is legally parked in the specified parking space.Living at Wahu, be ready to get your car towed even if you pay your parking fee on time every month, and also be ready to miss your meeting, spend hours and pay an additional $325 to get your car back. After this, I am worried that my car may be towed again anytime. In addition, I keep recalling the intimidating scene where I see my car disappeared from the resident-only parking region.

My daughter lived at WaHu for one year. The management was very slow to respond to any maintenance request. Management was very rude when there were questions or she needed assistance with package deliveries. The underground parking is not monitored with cameras and it was not a secure entry. Many cars were broken into and it is easy access for anyone off the street to get to the elevators. The hallways and elevator was always dirty and gross. I did not feel comfortable with her leaving her apartment without one of her roommates with her. Not a nice place to live. LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Wish I could give it 0 stars.Save yourself the money and live absolutely anywhere else. The units are built poorly; walls scuff if you look at them sideways and paint chips if you try to clean the scuffs. If you live facing the courtyard, which you probably will, the AC wont save you from the lack of air circulation because it fails for weeks at a time.God forbid you want a warm shower because hot water here is a treat. My unit welcomed me with a fist-sized hole in the wall that was never fixed and a garbage disposal that sprayed food everywhere because there was no plug. I was fined $50 because I didnt break down a box that I used to hold my recycling in, because the entire trash room was filled with garbage and had nowhere else to put it but the floor, which I guess they prefer.Amenities were shut down for 99% of my stay but the rent never wavered. Upon many other things, management is slow and unresponsive, and I simply cannot express what a dump this place was for the price.

I’ve lived here almost a year. Love the location and the newness of the units. Work orders are finished super fast too. Amenities weren’t fully open because of Covid, so that was a downside. The location and amenities are very nice. However, lots of draw back. First, it is very difficult to contact the lease office once I want to move out or switching the room as they will rarely pick up the phone or ever be there. Second, the guest parking spot only allow 10 spots per day for the whole several hundreds residents. Also, lots of room are with only one small window that facing toward the wall of the building, so carefully ask or explore the window of the room before you book any room in this apartment.

I dont usually leave a review for anything, but I have to do this one. I was at the site today and witnessed a scene. There was an employee (African American Male) in the office getting something for himself. I saw a guy trying to inform him about the broken printer upstairs and asked him if he can use the printer in the office since it was an urgent matter. The employee told him IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN SINCE THE OFFICE IS CLOSED FOR MEMORIAL DAY. First off, I am not sure why he was in the office when the office was closed in the first place. Second, the way he told the guy was very rude and disrespectful. There are many other ways to say it cannot be done for certain reasons, but this employee chose to be disrespectful towards him. Also, when the guy asked for the employees name at the end, he just closed the door on the poor guy without any response. What kind of customer service is this??? I was mad for the poor guy. I am very disappointed in the customer service Wahu has to provide. I think management should address this type of issue accordingly. I know there are a lot of international students live at the site, and oftentimes they are treated in disrespectful ways due to their English skills. Wahus marketing targets a lot of international students but ignoring them once they become residents? that is not cool! The picture below is the employee who was talked about in the scene above. Management please address this issue!!

The location is nice. In my experience, thats about it. You cannot cancel your lease whatsoever, something that was extremely important given the outbreak of COVID-19. One of the bigger issues is that you will be shown a model room that is not at all similar to what you will be getting. Im sure there are a few rooms that people are satisfied with, but in my case, our room was a complete let down. There were stains on the walls and furniture, the floorplan was dissimilar to the one we chose (ex. the sofa didnt even fit in the living room, it blocked the door of the fridge due to a lack of space), and when they tell you utilities are around $40-$50 they are lying; utilities are always over $100/month. I would not recommend WaHu to anyone unless you have somehow seen the exact apartment that you are renting and are satisfied with it. My circumstances are not an isolated incident, I have friends who have had the same experience. Please use this review to truly consider your decision.

Bad management, they dont really care about their residents. Move-in days are the most disorganized out of any apartment around the U. Simple tasks such as not giving your package to the wrong resident, are routinely messed up.The least safe apartment out there. Security is non-existent and youre pretty much guaranteed to walk into a homeless person in the stairwell or the parking garage during your stay here. They expect you to call 911 when that happens, which is a blanket statement for our residents safety is not our problem.

Only rating it 2 stars because the amenities are nice. The business is run in an extremely frustrating manor, and they will try to get you on ever technicality and fee they can. Paid for a parking spot (which was absolutely ridiculously priced to begin with) then I find out when I dont need the parking spot anymore (will no longer have my car there) it isnt an option to remove the parking spot, so I have to pay 130 a month for no value. Seems like something you might want to tell someone when they get the parking spot in the first place instead of burying it in the fine print. No honest business would engage in these sort of practices, and I have had countless negative encounters with Wahu (very slow to adapt to loosening covid restrictions, bad study room availability, ac and plumbing issues albeit temporary). This shouldnt reflect poorly on the workers, they are apologetic and it isnt there fault, but the people running this place care extremely little about their residents.

They respond within 24 hours and are very friendly.Cons: management is extremely bad not gonna lie. Unsafe, robbery in the lobby happens once. Got locked out at midnight once for no reason, filed a complaint to wahu and did not get responded for a week. I have to contact wahu to get my key fixed myself cuz I can’t wait anymore. Got a huge vibe that they don’t care about their residents and don’t really know what is going on. U can ask them the same question and get two different separate answers.

Dont live here.MOST OF THE RECENT POSITIVE REVIEWS HERE WERE POSTED BECAUSE THE LEASING COMPANY WAS OFFERING FREE STARBUCKS TO WHOEVER REVIEWED.I pay $1024 a month here for a bedroom and a parking space in a 3 bed 2 bath apartment. When touring they told us that utilities individually never went above about $30/month. I figured this was a lie, but my utility bill has been $60+ for the last three months, and I dont leave the lights on or take too many baths. Our garage is not safe, there are constantly people in the lower level of the garage (which is for residents only) who do not live there. Half of the time I have lived here, the arm that is supposed to stop non residents from entering the lower level has been propped up so anyone can drive down. Security does nothing. A woman was recently assaulted in the lobby of the building at 7 pm right in front of the front desk. This is where security is supposedly supposed to sit. There is almost zero security. There are currently ways for people to just get into the building without a key, due to a lack of locks on doors in very major and high traffic areas of the building. Some locks were broken, and never replaced. We recently had a homeless man living in the stairwell smoking cigarettes two weeks ago. The cigarette butts are still sitting on the floor of the staircase. There is almost zero housekeeping done to the hallways, or other common areas. There are huge stains all over the carpet and walls, and the elevators are usually filthy. They are currently very desperate to get people to move in and are harassing us with emails and phone calls trying to get people to re-sign leases. There is a reason current tenants do not want to stay here.DO NOT LIVE HERE.(also just a note, when originally being asked to choose an apartment upon signing, I had a leasing agent tell me I could just pick a number without getting any specifications about the apartment I would be choosing. It took many emails and phone calls to even get the basic floorplans for the apartment. We werent made aware that our apartment faces the triangular shaped court yard, and that our apartment was in the corner. WE GET ZERO SUNLIGHT.)

From the first conversation I had with the leasing office till move-in day everyone at Wahu was extremely helpful and transparent. The lease signing and move-in instructions were easy to understand. When the washing machine needed a repair, Wahu staff got to it right away to make sure I was all set. The parking garage is roomie, safe and easy to navigate. The only reason why I stayed here for a year is the location. Other than that, everything else is not worth the high rent price. To start off, management is the worst! One example is a situation I am currently in: I am waiting for time sensitive documents to be sent over. I have called the office every day, sometimes multiple times a day and talked to different people. Each person has given information that is different from the other. When asked to speak to a manager to get the correct information, I was deterred from it. After a week of constant calling and expressing my concerns, I still have not spoken to a manger yet. Then, i was promised my documents would be ready at a certain time and still nothing yet.In addition, the building is dirty, the amenities still have not been reopened (we are still paying for them), and the security is horrible. I definitely would not recommend living at this place. If you do, keep your expectations low and hope you don’t have anything important that you will have to contact management for.

With the location of my room I use the back elevators in the parking garage which are always extremely dirty, not to mention the parking garage smells terrible all the time. The management does not care at all about residents, they claim there is a 15th of the month deadline for subleases to get approved for next month move in, and that they emailed us this policy, but I dont have any record of it. The WaHu management team seems extremely unorganized and confused. While touring the place, we asked what utilities are included in rent and they responded with: all of them except heat, water, electricity and internet. This was one of the many times they contradicted themselves when we asked a question that shouldve been very easy to answer. Next, before we attempted to sign the lease they told us about an offer where we get two months free if we signed in June however they failed to tell us that you only get that deal if you sign a 15-month lease NOT a 12-month lease. After this, they sent us the wrong lease at least 3 times and each time we reached out to them, the management team became more and more confused changing either the wrong thing or screwing up something else. We eventually gave up and never signed any lease because of how horrible our experience was. I would highly recommend staying away from the WaHu because the management are clearly so unorganized and confused that it is impossible to work things out with them or understand what you are being offered.

I wouldnt recommend living here for most people. It took a case of strongarm robbery in our own lobby for them to have at least one person in the building at all times. The move-in day was ridiculously inefficient; I had to wait outside in line for about two hours just to get my keys, and when I got to my room, it was barely cleaned at all from when the last tenants moved out. Im glad other people who live here agree that the maintenance team is absolutely fantastic, because it is. Overall though, this place has very bad management (the people high, high up). They care about nothing other than money. The rent price should have dropped when the majority of amenities were stripped due to covid (which was the right decision). Also has very thin walls within the apartments as well as outside; sometimes I can clearly hear my roommates talking at a normal voice level. I think I would be able to understand the appeal of living in a luxury apartment on-campus if classes were in person, but I think this is an instance where you dont get anything close to what you pay for. Consider other options. Also, this isnt necessarily Wahus fault, but the people who live here drive like idiots. I got a gnarly scratch on the side of my car from avoiding a head on collision going up the ramp; Ive also seen rich kids luxury cars get banged up in what I assume are hit and runs.Edit: I will also mention that, no exaggeration, something breaks in the apartment or needs to be fixed multiple times every month. It really sucks when you have to start picking and choosing which things are and arent worth starting a work order for, because it undeniably leaves the unit in worse condition than you received it in. And knowing how theyre dying to get every dollar out of you, theyd probably fine YOU for living in their decaying building.

My apartment had a leak that came from the apartment above ours, and a gaping hole was made in the ceiling. This was two months ago, and the hole is there. My roommates and I had to ask the office multiple times for any updates, but we were never given information on when this would be fixed. The hole has exposed insulation in it, and this has been periodically falling down into the apartment since, making us feel unsafe in our own kitchen/living room. The maintenance staff is excellent, and they expressed frustration about the issue too, as they could not fix it until management ordered the necessary materials. I found out today that the materials were ordered just two days ago, weeks after it was known that maintenance was able to fix the hole and needed these supplies ordered. This is unacceptable to me, and you should know that if you are renting at Wahu that you can expect little help from management to fix issues as big as a gaping hole in the ceiling.

When the stay at home order was issued, management closed all amenities and turned off lights in common areas to keep people out of them. Youd think they would understand that uncertain times mean peoples living arrangements may change right? Wrong. After obtaining legal advice, I vacated my apartment, cleaned it, and tried to return my keys. Management was so incredibly immature, they didnt respond to half my emails and they kept marking the package with my keys return to sender then telling me they wouldnt accept them, and as long as I had my keys I was responsible for rent. Despite the fact that cardinal had removed all the leasing agents from the building to protect them from covid, they still expected the residents to stay and pay. This charade started when I vacated March 31st, and is still going. The behavior of the management team has made it clear that cardinal group management looses no sleep at night when they bully young adults who they think dont know better into dealing with poor treatment while continuing to pay absurdly high rent. I for one am not willing to pay 1014 a month to be locked in my room.Aside from all that, the property is not secure. You need a remote to get into the upper or lower levels of the garage, but there was a time mine wasnt working. They did not fix it for a week, and I found they had just kept the bars up, meaning anyone could get in. They did this often. And during the times the arms were down, it was not uncommon for people to try to tailgate in after someone else.Do yourself a favor and do not sign here. It is not worth it.

So I guess you cannot give zero star reviews, thats a shame. Quick recount of my experience with Wahu Student Living:Upon moving in, apartment was clearly not cleaned from last residents and many damages had not been repaired, including a chair in the living that literally bent 45 degrees that they just left. AC wasnt working, blocked from cottonwood that couldve been fixed if maintenance checked rooms between tenants. Alongside an 80 degree apartment none of the batteries for our individual room door locks had been replaced so several people in my apartment got locked out of their rooms. Missing fire alarms when moving in. Faulty dryer with leaks in exhaust. Now moving into security, they use a third-party service that shows up and sits at the front desk. They only ensured someone at the desk after a robbery in the main lobby. My car was broken into which they said was my fault, I guess the $150 a month for parking doesnt pay to keep trespassers out. Should probably just park on the street if you live here, probably same result. Had my bike stolen, lock totally smashed indicating significant time taken to steal my bike and no security was present. Packages were getting stolen from front office since desk was not staffed past 5pm or after office hours so theyd sit out for the taking. Amenities have been closed or limited even when other apartment complexes have had their resources open for a long while; indicating lazy management that doesnt want to pay maintenance costs. A major flaw of the entire building is the paper thin walls. Make sure you both know and like the people youre moving in with because you will be very connected to your roommates whether you like it or not. Hot water was out for a number of days as both of their boilers had complications. We were told utilities would be no more than $30 a month but have seen them around $60 consistently. When moving in they had a terrible system to get residents moved in and left two roommates without keys entirely to their own apartment. Mail keys took several weeks to arrive so we all relied on one roommates mail key to access our mailbox. The upper gate on the patio is broken and has a door immediately following that without any locks, thus anyone can walk into the building at any point. Which coincidentally has happened several times. At this point in the year I have seen four trespassers in the building, one even knocking on my door. There is constant smoking in the parking garage, I find myself surprised when I go out to my car and it doesnt smell like marijuana. Concluding thoughts; this place is a total scam, either save your money and rent a house or move into a dinkytown apartment. At least there youll see people. Wahu is a ghost town trash hole. Oh and they will absolutely bombard you to resign your lease but I assume this is every landlord. Regardless even after saying no several times they ask if I want to renew with a great special brand new deal/offer. Yeah okay Wahu. DO NOT LIVE HERE!P.S. Nothing against the staff currently working, I blame management solely for cutting corners and costs. They are cash cows with no dignity, thanks!

Wahu is a poor attempt at a nice student apartment. At first glance, the building and lobby look clean, bright, and new. That is just about where the charade ends. After getting into the elevators, you can almost always smell something gross. The buttons in the elevator panels look like someone threw up on them, and walking to my room I can literally count the multiple-month old vomit plies in the hallways. The walls are paper thin, meaning being the first to go to bed in my apartment is impossible as the slightest sound echoes through the entire place. The bedrooms all vary a ton in size and temperature, meaning that keeping the AC or heat on (If it is even working to begin with) is impossible as we all have such different needs as some rooms stay very cold and some are stuffy and hot. The office staff are terrible, often just telling you to go away or call back later when you encounter a problem, and speaking to a manager is almost impossible unless you are very, very persistent. I could write a book about all the issues we have had in our unit from move in, broken appliances, lack of cleanliness, and poor communication from staff, but I simply do not have the time to type them all here. Management is fully aware of our issues but only ever spoken to me about them because I have demanded to speak to someone other than an incompetent or entirely dismissive office member. We were offered a small giftcard to resign, which we took solely because of the location, but if you are looking for a place, Wahu should be last on your list. It is simply not worth the hassle of moving out and dealing with the office staff again. As a final note, the apartments were not cleaned prior to move in this year, because they had trouble with their vendors. Pitiful excuse. We find mounds of hair from the prior residents every day on the furniture, in the carpet, clogging our drains, and in our drawers. If I could rate less than one star, I probably would.

I’d like to pass on my current issue with Wahu management and Cardinal Services Group. The main points of contact are Kelly Williams and Sean Devine.Essentially, misleading and deceptive advertisements are placed all over the Wahu building stating that signing a lease with Wahu will result in a $400 discount to be applied over 12 months. When I approached Wahu about potentially renewing my lease with the deal, and I was given illogical reasoning that essentially negated any discount to be applied towards renewing. In support of the irrational reasoning, there is: (1) no express language on the advertisement stating that the deal won’t be honored for current customers or that the deal is limited to only new customers; (2) Wahu doesn’t address why the advertisements are published in private elevators for facing current customers that are not eligible for the deal (again, with no express or implied language to say that current customers won’t apply); and (3) there are dated signs along with the advertisement that state “Deadline to renew is Jan. 27th! Renew today!” which seems to imply that the renewal rates are still ongoing, since January 27th has obviously been exceeded by months. The advertisements don’t expressly state that deal is applicable only to new leases. A reasonable person would believe that the deal would apply to any rate provided by Wahu representatives from the leasing office.I find the advertisement troubling because if it is not honored, the advertisement could be construed as false advertisement, intended to lure customers into a lease rate that the organization had no intention of honoring. The advertisement is distributed throughout the building and is located in our customer facing elevators, and the language of the advertisement does not expressly state that it applies only to new customers, or that it would not be combined with the rates provided by Wahu representatives. When I prompted this information to Kelly Williams, the Wahu manager, she did not speak to the issues, or answer my questions. She simply tried to end the conversation multiple times, and I frequently had to send multiple follow-up emails gain a response from her. I found her approach to be incredibly unprofessional and rude. Later, Sean Devine of Cardinal Services called me and I had thought the call was intended to resolve the issue, but rather it was just a listening session from him, which was unproductive and aimless. When I asked what his goal of the call was, he laughed, and continued with his ramblings and incoherent speech about how “all apartments do this.” He said he would call me back regarding the issue and he still hasnt. Cardinal Services has not acted professional is resolving this issue and Sean Devine was incredibly condensing and unpleasant. I have an email thread documenting all these happenings and the advertisement to pass on. The advertisements are still published throughout the building.Wahu is not worth the price point. I am consistently emailing and following up with Wahu management on obvious issues throughout the building, such as broken gym equipment or study rooms being locked out. I’ve lived at other expensive apartment buildings in Dinkytown/Stadium Village and haven’t had any of the negative experiences Wahu has provided. There are lots of other expensive and professional buildings to live in Dinkytown/Stadium Village, and I’d like to warn others to stay away from this deceptive and unprofessional building.

Edit: the wifi goes out probably once a week, and the hot water turna off in my apartment a couple times per week.I moved in a month and a half ago and still dont have a mailbox key. Iwent to the office today and they said come back tomorrowThey dont log packages quickly. I had things delivered 2 days ago that they wont let me pick up because I havent received an email from them yet. I was told, again, come back tomorrow. On the bright side, the maintenance staff are very nice and helpful. The apartment itself is nice. But Im paying $825 a month and cant get my mail and packages.

WaHu overall is a fantastic place to live, but what really brought me in was how at home the staff helps me feel. Especially one of the new receptionists, Sophie, she has always been so sweet whenever I have a question or am receiving a package. It’s the little things that make me really appreciate this place.

Eh, pretty typical apartment for college students. Watch out because they bribe residents that give 5-star reviews.Cons:- Staff is 100% unresponsive to emails to their personal emails or the main email- Will charge you a TON if you want to relet your unit for the summer- Chose the easy way out and kept the gym and pool closed even though there are ways to open them up with COVID mitigation measures- Not responsive to fixing or keeping common areas clean- Garage doors are like always broken? Its weird- Lots of windows results in apartments that get cold in the winter and warm in the summer- A pretty dead neighborhood w/ mainly chain restaurantsPros:- Similar to the Marshall but $100 cheaper- Right next to the light rail- Pool and gym are nice (when open, haha)- Online resident portal is helpful- Community events can be cool and they sometimes have good free food at them

The maintenance guy (tom) is super nice and friendly. But the problem is the front desk or their system. My air conditioner was out on Friday and I submitted a work order, and called front desk multiple times on Saturday. They directed me to submit a work order, which I already did. No one told me their is an emergency line until Sunday ! Its 85 degree F! And perfectly fit to their protocol as emergency issue. So I guess its either the front desk werent familiar with their procedure or they just try to avoid anything would cause them any inconvenience. I wish the front desk whoever got my call have to stay in a room with 85 degree F for 3 days!

I know that there are negative reviews of Wahu, but I have had a positive experience with the staff and the rooming experience. I sublet a room at Wahu for 3 months. The staff always treated me respectfully, and the manager, Blake, is very personable and cared about my concerns. Lastly, the room was in good condition when I arrived and I really liked the room which includes a bed, two dressers, and a table.

Edit: I dont live here anymore, and Arthur seems to be gone. The few times where Ive had to come back, with mailing mistakes or such, the staff has been borderline incompetent. Telling me that packages for me arent there over the phone, then when I show up and make them look the packages end up being literally in front of their desk. From 5 stars to 3 because the price still seems okay.Im writing this review specifically because of how helpful Arthur is. Most of the staff is fine and I understand when theyre not helpful because most of the college kids living here make their jobs hard. Arthur, however, is always respectful and treats any concerns like they matter, whether thats true or not. Apartment wise, everythings pretty good. Kids occasionally break stuff which can take a while to fix but that would happen everywhere. Reasonable price for an apartment where you dont have to share a bedroom and bathroom.

Rent is reasonable for two person shared. Has Gigabit Ethernet, decent amenities, close to the light rail station. Id recommend talking to Arthur. Hes really friendly and set my friends and I up with a great room in Wahu! Some downsides are that the residents arent very clean with the recycling room as the bin is too small to hold all the recycling is out often spills over on the floor. Maintenance is often slow when people move in during the beginning of the school year (~1 month service) but often speeds up after the first 2-3 months.

Ive been living at Wahu for about a year and a half and I could not imagine moving. My roommates have all agreed that this is the nicest place we have all ever lived, and were definitely going to be renewing for this coming year. We found some less expensive options in the area, but this building was still the easy choice. I would strongly recommend for anyone looking to get out of the dorms, or find an upgrade from their old apartment!

Water problem has been fixed and is pretty consistent for now. However, we just received our utilities today. Wahu seems to have a contract with a monthly utilities charge provider that charges $5.50 each month IN ADDITION to each utility payment; something you CANT opt out of. I had previous knowledge of this, but what makes it ridiculous is they charged us the service fee for sewage and water for a service period of 08/30/19 to 08/31/19 which would have been a total of $0.69, meaning I am now paying almost 8X the original utilities fee. Big money grab in my opinion.

My girlfriend lives here so I spend a lot of time at this apartment. My car got broken into and I know it’s not the first time that has happened. The staff is usually hard to deal with, the hallways are dirty, and the price for all of it is outrageous. But most importantly, the safety aspect is horrible, anyone can enter the building at anytime which is really unsafe for residents of the building. Do not live here! There are much better options out there especially for students of the U.

I’ve been living In WaHu since 2017, since I was a sophomore at the UMN. Here’s why I chose WaHu, why I chose to stay, what I like about WaHu, and what are some things that I believe WaHu can improve in the near future.I chose WaHu because of its strategic location - only 2-minute walk to the light-rail station, one bus stop away from St. Paul campus (I’m in CFANS), close to several restaurants and FreshThyme grocery store. It’s not as crowded and noisy as DinkyTown area.My 2020-2021 rent is higher compared to last year. But I chose to stay because the price was reasonable, and I don’t want to deal with moving in/out. I do think WaHu should be more lenient on pricing for returning residents. What I like about WaHu:1. Amenities = gym, pool, computer lab, coffee machine, lounge area - of course these are impacted/closed temporarily due to COVID. It’s the right thing to do for WaHu.2. Maintenance = I have great experiences with maintenance so far. They were pretty quick in fixing things. The maintenance guy, Tom, is super friendly.3. Managers are helpful = shout out to Blake, the Assistant Community Manager. He’s always willing to help, good listener, and open to new ideas. Sarah, the Community Manager, has been helpful as well - she helped me throughout my summer subleasing process, along with Matt (Marketing Team Lead)4. I never have any trouble with my packages and mail.5. Community events: I’ve only attended one for the Chinese New Year. It was great. WaHu have done several virtual events as well since COVID happened. What are some things that WaHu can improve:1. Maintain consistent communication among the team members: There were some points where I received different information from different office people on the price, date, and policy on subleasing. This happened both times in 2019 and 2020.2. Sustainability: This is what I’m excited for WaHu. Recycling bins are in place but not all residents know about this/know how to recycle even - needs to be communicated, maybe through email. I suggested residential compost bins to Blake and he supported that idea. Fortunately, this needs to be delayed due to COVID - I fully understand.3. Communication/social attitude: I think this one is getting better. Blake, Sarah, and Matt are great people to talk to. But there were some team members who were not as friendly (mostly referring to 2019 experience) - maybe it’s just their facial expression and tone. But at the end of the day, helping residents/customer service is their job. Just please remember that we are residents, and so when we asked the same questions about the pricing/policy a couple times, try to be understanding and patient. Because, how can we comply to the policy when we are misinformed/ inadequately informed? And when you care about the residence, we’ll care about you too :)

Generally a good place for students on campus. Initially there were a couple problems moving in, but they were solved same day. Staff is very friendly and attentive to residents. From my observations, it seems that the janitorial staff isnt treated as fairly as the other staff members, which is something I would want improved. Moved out last year after living there for 2 years due to graduating college.

If youre just scrolling through and want a short version: not over-the-top great, but as good as can be expected. If you want more detail: Ive been living at WaHu for about 5 months, and I have had mostly good experiences. The cons you see in some of the reviews arent always result of poor management. For example, the printer is often out of paper, but that makes sense as Im sure people come in with long term papers and theses and take advantage of the free printing (a rare commodity on campus). The only true concern Ive had was a break-in I heard about from campus police at the beginning of the school year that management never notified residents of. I think its important, if there is a break-in in the community, that all residents are informed. However, I have never had any problems myself living here. The management is always nice, and when one of my roommates let her friend move in with her (long story), they were quick to act. The amenities (gym, lounge, study rooms, game rooms) are nice and always quiet. The part I like most about living here is the maintenance. I had one major maintenance issue (bathroom fan broke and was SO loud) and the maintenance team was quick to act, removing the fan and replacing it within a day. They have also been wonderful about small fixes - changing light bulbs, fixing drains, etc.All in all, living here hasnt been anything extravagant, but its been pretty good. Plus, the roommate matching service, which matched my friend and I with one of our other two roommates, did a great job. Random roommates actually working out is always a plus.

Move-in process was a mess, waited an hour just to get keys. Moving carts were on a 1 hour + waiting list, and elevators took almost 10 minutes to come by. A lot of the positive reviews here are members of the management team (especially those that praise other employees) so they are a bit inflated. Complimentary smore cookies from blaze were a nice touch.

The location was great as a student; however, management was subpar at best. I found Wahu, their managers, and their office staff very unprofessional. Managers are very dodgy and will avoid solving problems if it inconveniences them. I could not trust them to get my lease correct the first three times the draft was sent to me and had to correct their mistakes an unacceptable amount of times. They are quick to cash in your checks, but will take so long to take care of issues to the point that you may forget about problems you addressed with them. The office staff is nice; however, they can do little to solve problems without their manager onsite.TLDR; If you have other options to live at, i.e. Dinnaken, I wouldnt waste time or money living here
