I would recommend Midland BJJ to anyone! I found the community to be outstanding at this gym. The coaching was exceptional and I felt that the coaches took their time in addressing my needs as a student. Classes were run in an efficient and professional manner, and catered to a diverse audience! Unfortunately due to my work I had to move away from Midland, and I know it will be difficult to find a gym to match Midland BJJ. My experiences in this gym were extremely positive ones and I am grateful for the time I got to spend there!
You wont ever find a boring time at Midland BJJ. Professor Brad Barnes and his coaching staff are phenomenal instructors. His academy has a curriculum and the classes are very well structured, which I really like. I travel from Big Spring to Midland (50 min drive) and the schedule here is very flexible so there are No Excuses not to train! Professor Brad also sets up seminars with well known BJJ practitioners and UFC fighters.Midland BJJ is very military and law enforcement friendly and help those who serve their country and community out with a discount. If you are a law enforcement officer, you get to train for free until you get your blue belt with their Blue Line program. Now thats an awesome deal!Let me also mention that the people who train here are awesome! Everyone here leaves their ego out their door and the people who attend the classes are friendly. It took me a year to convince my fiance to try out BJJ and now she is addicted.I have been training for the past four and a half years. I started out in Southern California and a reassignment for work is what led me to West Texas and I have to say that I am grateful to have found this academy. So come on down and try out Midland BJJ. See yall on the mat! OSS!!!
I have been to plenty of different gyms across the country and I must say Midland bjj is amongst the best. Everything from the coaches, students, cleanliness, and the class curriculum are top notch. Midland BJJ is for everyone on a journey to become their betters selves. Check them out!!
I really believe that everyone should train BJJ. My kids 13 and 8 have been doing this for almost 2 years now. Midland BJJ is a great place to train and very family friendly. The instructors and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. As with anything, you get what you put into it.
The facility, staff, students and spectators is grade A!! I would highly recommend this to anyone. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Midland BJJ coaches and works with everyone - no matter what limitations or lack of abilities you might have. Keep up the great work Midland BJJ!
Brad is an amazing instructor and always a student. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. This is a very Leo friendly gym
Amazing place welcomed. High level stuff Amazing instructors and coaches great people over all.
Ive been to many Martial Arts academies all over the world. The people of Midland/Odessa are very fortunate to have Brad running one in their area. There is a wide array of knowledge in the academy. If youre looking for Jiu Jitsu, or MMA, or just there for Self Defense, you will find what you are looking for. I can not wait to come back. -Cole
Great Coaches and staff very friendly environment 👌👌
My kids trained at Midland BJJ when we lived in west Texas and it is by far the best gym they have been to. My boys loved training with Nestor and always learned so much from him. Brad is very involved and is always hosting clinics with specials guests he brings in. From the moment you walk in, you feel like family. Everytime we travel back to Midland, we make sure to drop in a class or two and are always welcomed with open arms. Im very appreciative of Brad and Midland BJJ for setting the foundation for my boys in jiu-jitsu.
Enrolling in Juijitsu at Midland Bjj has been the one of the best choices I have made in my life. I’m 34 and I had let myself get out of shape, I wasn’t eating well and I was drinking to much during covid. Starting any type of physical program for “self improvement” is always intimidating and a difficult commitment at first. From day one I felt welcomed and it was immediately at place I felt proud to be apart of, you could tell everyone else was glad to be there too. I have been attending classes 3-5 times a week for over a year and I have lost almost 40 pounds and I feel better than I did in my 20’s. Losing weight and getting in shape is a great reason to join but it’s not just that. Juijitsu has become therapeutic for me, my overall mood, happiness at home and quality of life has drastically improved.
I have been training at Midland BJJ since February of 2021. The gym offers a one week trial for you to try and see if BJJ would be worth pursuing for you.My personal experience so far has been remarkable and I have greatly enjoyed this newfound hobby. I started while probably around 50lbs overweight and with no prior experience in martial arts. Starting jiu jitsu has helped me get to a healthier mental and physical state in a few short months. It is a great way for people of all sizes and ages to learn self-defense and have fun while doing it. I still consider myself to be a complete beginner but I have found practice and learning little by little to be quite enjoyable. So far, I have no plans to compete and I am using this as my sole source of physical exercise throughout the week. The gym lessons include Gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from beginner to advanced levels, wrestling, and MMA. Most of these are available for children, teenagers, and adults and should you need more help in a smaller setting, private coaching sessions can also be purchased.Brad, the lead instructor and owner, is one of several black belts who regularly are at Midland BJJ and share instruction duty over the week.Since I have joined Midland BJJ, there have also been seminars provided free of charge for members around every other month. These consist of a few lessons over a day or two with a guest instructor who competed at a high level in MMA or Jiu Jitsu with the possibility of purchasing private lessons as well. There is a lot of variety among the students in terms of experience along with size and body types so chances are not only will you be able to practice with someone that is about your size, you will also get to practice around smaller or bigger people. It may be a bit daunting to get started, but once you do you may find BJJ to have an overall positive impact on your life and you will want to come back to learn more.Midland BJJ is a great place to learn, I have found that instructors are great people both on and off the mat. I highly recommend swinging by and signing up for a trial.
I have been training martial arts for over 30 years. I have trained with the top echelon of MMA athletes. One of the biggest influences on me throughout the years has been coach Brad Barnes.Coach Brad was vital in helping me incorporate Jiu Jitsu and wrestling in my arsenal. He has a very rare skill set. He is the only complete MMA coach in Midland.Brads martial arts abilities have been proven effective in the highest levels of competition. Both he and his students have a long list of victories. Not in just IBJJF but in many varieties of combat. But what makes Brads school truly special is his heart. He truly cares for his students. Being part of his school is being part of a family. If you and your family are looking for the best place to train under the most complete coach in the area, then go to Midland BJJ. You won’t regret it.
Midland BJJ is a welcoming family. Professor, Bradley Barnes is an amazing teacher and guides each one of his students throughout our training/learning journey. From the first day studying the craft to few months in Midland BJJ has treated me with the upmost respect and put my training abilities first. I truly appreciate this sport to a whole another level since starting my journey with Midland BJJ and Professor Barnes. What are you waiting for? Toes on the line...
Ive been attending class regularly with my teen son (4-5x/week) since moving to Midland from out of state back in June. Midland BJJ has been nothing short of an answered prayer. Moving during high school can be tough on kids, but my son instantly fell in with a great group of kids at Midland BJJ, and were both feeling right at home there. Professor Brad is a total professional, the schedule options are great, and the more experienced students are helpful and selfless. GREAT place for BJJ!
Unbelievable place. Family atmosphere and great coaching. Whether you are brand new or a grizzled vet in the game this is the place to be in West Texas. Coach Brad also works hard to routinely bring in QUALITY coaches for seminars. This gym has got me through my first MMA fight and first grappling match and it’s the best decision I’ve made since I have moved out to Midland. Any retired athletes or competitive people looking for competition or people who just want to get into fitness, this is the place to be.
We are so grateful for Midland BJJ! Our son has been going for about a year now and not only has he developed skills that will serve him his entire life, but his confidence in himself has grown tremendously! He loves the community and wants to go to class every chance he can. Brad Barnes and his team are a huge asset to Midland, Tx!
I have three boys that fall into two different kid class ages. My oldest (11) LOVES his class. He’s learned so much, has more confidence in himself and more respect for others. He used to be pretty clumsy, but BJJ has also helped his balance and hand eye coordination. He has made close friends while in class and even though he’s tired from the workout at the end of each class, he’s always excited about what he’s learned and how he’s progressing! My younger two (5 & 7) loved it as well! The coaches who work with the kids are patient, but firm in teaching them to pay attention and learn. They make class fun each time though! Although my work schedule changed and I can no longer make it for my little two to attend their class, they can’t wait until they’re old enough for the big kid class so they can go back! The classes are well structured, safe, and fun for kids! The price is reasonable considering they can attend 5 days a week, every week.
My family (wife and 4 of my kids) and Joined Midland BJJ back around November-December. It has been a wonderful and rewarding experience! All of my younger kids have really enjoyed it and their instructor does an amazing job with them. My two older boys (teenagers) are usually in class with me. It has been so much fun to enjoy this with my boys and my wife! Brad has been a great instructor and motivator! I cant say enough good things about the people here and the owner and instructors. You wont be disappointed. Go take advantage of the free trial.
I have been training at Midland BJJ for a while now. To give perspective, I am a working health professional, and had some apprehension coming in at first. I was worried about getting injured particularly my hands, rendering myself unable to provide for my family. I was also worried that I would have to contend with a bunch of egos. This has never been an issue. Professor Brad has fostered an amazing environment where all feel welcome, regardless of experience level and everyone is treated as family. Professor Brad is a fantastic instructor. He has the ability to teach complex concepts and simplify them in a way that a novice can grasp and rapidly apply them on the mat. Training at Midland BJJ has allowed me to better manage high work related stress levels, engage in physical activity and make new friends.I cannot speak highly enough of this place and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to make a change and improve their quality of life
Truly a great environment Brad and the whole Family and extended family are legit. Look out for everyone. Always bringing in knowledge. Midland BJJ has saved my life.
Midland BJJ is a phenomenal place to train. My VA counselor recommended getting back into a combat sport to help with PTSD. To say the team at Midland BJJ has helped with that is an understatement. Brad Barnes isn’t just a great coach/professor, he’s a great man. He’s knowledgeable, professional, direct, and compassionate. Once I explained why I was interested, he walked me through everything putting me completely at ease with starting my training. He went out of his way to make sure I trained with more experienced upper belts that helped me understand the techniques. He took care of all the uniform items I would need and made recommendations on everything from books, equipment, videos and training aids to help me get better. The atmosphere at the gym is really eclectic. Yes people are training and training hard at a violent sport/self defense discipline, but it’s completely relaxed. From top competitors down to brand new students, everyone was extremely friendly, supportive and uplifting. The training itself is difficult... but the rewarding feeling of accomplishment COMPLETELY makes it worthwhile and it is an incredible stress reliever. I think the thing that surprised me the most was how PHYSICALLY rewarding it was. I had been dieting for a few weeks before I started and lost a few pounds, but I dropped 30 more within 6 months of training here. Do not say, “I need to get in shape first”, it will get you in shape. The last thing I’ll say is that most schools I’ve been told really focus on students that are serious competitors, and the people doing it for the mental health, exercise and self defense benefits get left behind. Not here, every student regardless of rank, reason or ability gets the same level of attention. That’s not to say the competitors here aren’t successful because they do extremely well in tournaments. It’s just that Brad treats everyone there equally and everyone feels important to him. Do not hesitate, JOIN TODAY!
From the moment I stepped foot in Midland BJJ, I have been treated with nothing but respect and professionalism from not only the instructors, but each and every member. The instructors are patient and safety is always their number one priority. I highly recommend Midland BJJ to anyone who is seeking to gain friends, stay fit, and train in the discipline of BJJ.
My oldest son has been a member for over a year now. He has built so much more confidence, self control, strength, and a positive attitude from the training and the friendships he has built while going here. We can not wait to get him back on training schedule. Brad is an awesome instructor/owner, he treats everyone with the same respect whether they are 5 or 50 and is very encouraging and helpful! He keeps his gym and his equipment clean and looks out for the well being of all of his members.
Midland BJJ is an amazing place. Since I walked in the doors, I have made many new friends and memories. Professor Brad is a book of knowledge for BJJ, self defense and MMA. He wants nothing, but for his students to have fun and improve. Professor Brad brings in some of the highest talent in the world in BJJ to the gym for his students. Come join and have fun, because at Midland BJJ there is no ego, just Jiu Jitsu.
Started my jiu jitsu journey over 2 years ago and have been apart of Midland BJJ for the entirety and feels like family when training. Instruction is top notch and highly recommended to anyone wanting to take their training to the next level.
Midland BJJ is a great place to either start your BJJ journey or continue your training if you’re new to the area. Brad and the rest of the team are always positive and welcoming to everyone that comes through the door. Brad goes to great lengths to bring UFC veterans and other world class fighters, wrestlers, etc to to gym for seminars. You get the time and attention you need, if you want to be a fighter or you’re just looking to get out of the house for some exercise. Nestor does a stellar job with the kids classes as well. Midland is lucky to have such a great, well rounded gym right here. I can’t recommend it enough.
This place has changed my life!! Physically and mentally this establishment has helped me in more ways than I can count, the atmosphere is always welcoming and the people there feel more and more like family every time you walk through the doors! Top of the line training for any level and I would highly recommend coming here for anyone looking to learn and or get into shape mentally and physically.
I have been training and instructing Martial Arts for over 15 years and this is one of the best academies I have ever walked into. The instructors truly care about the students growth as both a martial artist and a person. The family atmosphere is second to none and I cant wait to go back. As an elite level MMA fighter, I had head instructor Bradley Barnes come out to one of my fights and run my corner for BellatorMMA because I knew he would be a captain with world class instruction. Running the amatuer program at American Top Team I also had teach classes on occasions beause I knew hed relate to everyone on the mat and theyd leave better for it. Facility is also kep very clean so no one has to worry about hygiene. Midlands BJJ all the way!
I’ve been training on and off for 7 years, moved a couple times and trained in different gyms. Brad and midland bjj are the best Teacher/instructor andgym/ facility I’ve found. Brad brings in top notch instruction from UFC fighters, black belt bjj competitors, to firearms Combatives military instructors. They also work hard, and offer classes all throughout the day, making it convenient to train.
My kids love going here! The coaches are GREAT!! I really love the good sportsmanship taught and how all the kids will help each other. They learn so much here and still have fun at the same time. All around great experience at Midland BJJ!
Midland BJJ is the best martial arts school in the basin, with experience in both MMA and BJJ. Midland BJJ is the only school where you can learn both at a high level.
Everything about Midland BJJ from the facility, staff, students and spectators is top notch! I would highly recommend this to anyone. Come out and try the fundamentals class for one week; it has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. Midland BJJ also coaches and works with everyone - no matter what limitations or lack of abilities you might have. Keep up the great work Midland BJJ!
Great family atmosphere and veteran owned business! Perfect place to learn self defense, get in better shape or for people wanting to compete. I was new to the area and Brad and the other instructors make you feel welcome and are always there to help. Midland bjj also has a lot of seminars featuring big names from the jiu Jitsu and mma community stop by.
I can not say enough great things about this place! Brad Barnes has created an environment that holds true with high morals and values while teaching a discipline and instilling confidence. The environment is warm and inviting giving a feel of family!! The level of training is top notch!
Great people.Discounts for Vets and 1st Responders.Great program for kids too. They learn while they have fun.
My son and I were very fortunate to have been able to drop in and train today. The instruction was top notch in both kids and adults classes. The mat space and quality were excellent. Very clean. Training partners were welcoming and helpful. I would highly recommend this location to anyone training combat sports/BJJ.
Midland BJJ is unlike any other gym. World class coaching and attention to detail. The environment is my favorite part. Very family oriented and welcoming. From white belts to black belts, everyone is willing to lend a hand and help each other get better. When you make the decision to train here you’ll be amazed at the progress you’ll make both physically and mentally. I highly recommend Midland BJJ.
Great place to train. Amazing environment for all ages.
Great training environment with high attention to detail. I’ve met nothing but awesome people at this gym as well, including the instructors themselves. Regardless of your level of expertise, Brad will always make sure you get the most out of training.
I can not wait to be back. The most loving hard working, stand in your corner, most awesome people that I am happy to call family train here. Brad is the coach and is absolutely amazing and can get you where you want to be not just physically but mentally and emotionally as well. On 3 .... hard work 123 hard work!
My wife and I have been training here since we moved to midland earlier this year. Love the atmosphere as it is very family oriented with world class athletes and competitors all the way to guys like me that just train in bjj to train and have fun. World class instruction and all around great people.
Great for any personal goals. Whether you are looking to get in shape, self defense, or be a competitor. Head instructor, Brad, has a lifetime of experience and knowledge to give and an excellent teacher. He has a great ability to break techniques down for more effective learning.
Great bunch of guys. Always been welcoming
I have been training here for a few months and the coaching and atmosphere are great. Awesome culture, coaches, students, and facilities. Highly recommend!
I have some experience in BJJ and have trained at some of the best large scale academies in the States and I can say that without a doubt this gym is a standout.Bruno is well respected throughout the BJJ community and I had the pleasure of training with Petya while I was dropping in on a short stay in town.If I still lived anywhere near West Texas I would make it a point to have Midland BJJ as my home.As a competitor or recreational BJJ student detailed instruction and good training partners are a must to get the most out of the experience. Trust that both of those are in good supply here. The culture was perfect, the facilities are great and the instruction is as good as it gets. Thanks again!
Brad has been a phenomenal coach and gives attention to any student that needs it. The gym has changed their training format in order to develop and really get some coordination and muscle memory going before moving to a different position or submission. That makes it much easier than getting multiple variables to learn all in one bite. I personally tend to feel less overwhelmed and more confident with each session.
I have been training here for over two years and the coaching and atmosphere are amazing. Great culture, coaches, students, and facilities. Highly recommend!
This is truly an amazing place with great people. The instructors genuinely care about all the people who come in and try to help them on an individual basis whenever possible. I cant recommend the facility and the people more highly!
You won’t find a better group of people in the Permian Basin. Regardless of your experience level, there’s a place for you here! What are you waiting for? Your first week is free, so there’s no commitment. Come see for yourself!
Excellent, welcoming environment for all skill levels. Awesome instructors and positive atmosphere for everyone.
Midland Bjj is a great place, with awesome coaches. They try to meet the needs of all students. Bradley Barnes, ( Head coach ), always has something going on to help you grow, like seminars from top shelf practioners, and lets not forget the awesome kids program, which coach Nester Jimenez teaches. Go stop in and youll see its a great spot to learn from.
I have been training at this gym since January 2019 I love it! Great coaching and teammates who are very welcoming and helpful! I would recommend it to anybody!
If you are looking for a great place to train with qualified instructors, look no further. I have been training with Coach Brad Barnes since 2011 at Midland BJJ and highly recommend this school.Do yourself a favor and train here.
The positive leadership and caring from the instructors is amazing. A family member went there and was noticeably out of shape but not one student nor teacher treated her differently! They were so positive and uplifting and the more advanced students took a lead and helped her out. It made me feel very good!
This place is great, very welcoming and knowledgeable. My two children go here and absolutely love the place and the instructors.
This is the place to be if you want to practice martial arts in a positive and fun atmosphere. The vibe here is something special!
Awesome academy with great instruction ! From the minute you walk in you feel welcomed and ready to enjoy the start of your journey !I highly recommend this academy to any and all !Prof. Steve M (Judo Steve)Cohesion BJJ & Judo
My son loves going to this gym. The training is excellent and his improvement has been dramatic. Would highly recommend to anyone who is interested in learning the most effective martial art in the world from world class instructors.
I have trained with Brad Barnes and his instructors for many years and absolutely love it. He is a skilled professional who has also coached all level fighters from beginners to Bellator to the UFC. The environment is friendly and welcomes all ages, genders, and skill levels. They have helped me find my why and have helped me get back in shape. Everyone is extremely helpful and willing to answer any questions. Come give it a try and let them help you find your why while having fun and learning valuable life skills.
If youre on the fence, now is the time to show up to a class and give it a go.
I have been training here for almost a year and it’s been great. The instruction is high quality, the environment is very friendly, and the results are awesome—personally and physically.
Ive been training here for about 9 months and love it. Ive had exposure to multiple martial arts and combatives instructors during 17 years of experience with the military and law enforcement. Brad Barnes instruction is high quality, concise and comprehensive; relating jiu-jitsu to self defense as its primary function. Everyone, staff and students, are respectful and friendly without arbitrary formality. If you like simulated fights to the death while listening to the greatest 80s hits, this is your home.
I have trained extensively with The owner of this facility and the instructor. If so did not own my own academy, this is where I would put my children. Train here. No other facility in Midland can hold a candle to Midland BJJ
My husband and I train at Midland BJJ. The instructors and students are outstanding. This place is therapeutic for the mind, body, and spirit.
Clean and friendly environment with a coaching staff that will help you reach your goals in bettering yourself.
This is the best place in the whole state to train. If you walk through the door, youre greeted and treated like family. Brad Barnes, the owner, is not only an amazing instructor; but one who cares about your needs in and out of the gym. There are always current world class Jiu Jitsu players, and even current UFC fighters that have seminars there on a regular basis. They train ALL, and I mean ALL age ranges. You really cant find a better place to train bjj, and even striking, judo and wrestling. Interested in becoming an mma fighter, this needs to be your first stop. Theygive a free week of training to anyone who walks through the door,so give them a chance. Youll thank me!
This is a very professional environment with great talent. The professors are both passionate and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place to anybody who wants to explore the art of bjj.
Very professional and everyone is eager to help and help you improve. Humble people.
One of the best places to train jiu-jitsu... Hhenever I can I visit to train with the champions.
Brad Barnes is incredibly knowledgable, professional, and passionate. We were honored to have him discuss self-defense to our Abell 7th and 8th grade girls through a program called Face the Race. He treated them as adults, in a very respectful but relatable way.
This is my 3rd bjj gym, and i have to say its the best one Ive ever been to. I like how he makes upper belts go with white belt. So if your a white belt your not just going with other white belts the whole time. Definitely a fast way to get better. All the upper belts know that its thier job to help you be a better you. They are not just trying to beat you up the whole time. Also cant forget the high level talent that he brings in for seminars. From king Moe, Peit Wilhelm, Ryan Hall and alot more. Also need to say since I have been there most of the seminars have been free to members. They have MMA classes, No-Gi classes, and kids classes. Brad has been super easy to talk to. Anytime Ive ask a question or a stupid question he has answers them.
I cannot say enough about top quality of the coaching and students here at Midland BJJ. I started roughly 6 months ago with their MMA/Kickboxing classes (Yes you read that right, they offer this to!) and added in Jiu Jitsu about a month in and it has had a profoundly positive impact on my overall life. At Midland BJJ, you will be learning REAL, APPLICABLE defensive and offensive skills while meeting new people from all walks of life. They also offer private lessons and hold seminars with other elite teachers such as King Mo( Pride/Bellator veteran), Ryan Quinn(Bellator veteran) and Ryan Hall (UFC ranked Jiu Jitsu Expert) to name a few. Take that leap and try out a free session or two to see if it’s for you. You will find professors Brad, Nestour and Midland BJJ have a lot to offer.
Welcoming environment. World class instruction.
Great coaching staff, very knowledgeable people! Easy to learn from regardless of your skill level
World class instruction and family friendly atmosphere
Great facility, friendly staff and World Class training! Bastos BJJ is the place to go in Midland! 5 Stars!
This gym is nothing but inviting and everyone there works really well with newer members. Everyone trains well with everyone and I do everything I can to recommend it people I know and get them started
I started training here january 2015. Im a complete 180 compared to who I was when I first started. Whether its bjj, mma, kickboxing, or the bulgarian bootcamps, All classes are taught by attentive and experienced coaches. And the atmosphere of the gym is so positive and fun, Ive made some life long friends here at bastos. Im also an avid competitor, and the training camps run by our coaches have made me very successful in competition. If you want to train legit jiu jitsu/mma in midland tx, Bastos is the place hands down.
Super affordable compared to other place in town. I really enjoyed the beginner class. I didnt feel out of place even if I am awkward.
