First time being at that location. Also first haircut since before quarantine began so were looking around 18 months here. It was so gnarly. Polly, being the doll that she is, suggested a hair style and ran with it. Gotta say, top marks to her, Fallon, and the rest of the crew there. Very tidy and professional. Very prompt about helping customers as they walk in. All around a great experience!

Polly works here and shes pretty rad. They need to figure out how to clone her because she cuts hair well AND has personality. Thats a rare find in this town!

The lady who cut my hair was quite nice, which is the only reason I am giving two stars. My haircut was uneven: one side had the sideburns cut, while the other didn’t. I dislike having to cut my own hair at home because the haircut was so poorly done.

I came in 30 minutes before closing time, but Agnes was still willing to help me. The other reviews about her arent far off... She was extremely quick with the clippers and scissors. It was unusually fast. My haircut was decent though, and Agnes was the only one in the store for the day and still helped each person who came in. I hope she has enough support, because she handled a stressful environment (a lot of customers near closing time) with care.

Terrible service. One side is longer than the other. Never coming here again. I would give it 0 stars if i could... The lady cutting my hair spent nearly 30 minutes on the person before me. I called in before that and she said i could come in without making an appointment, so i did. And when she asked me if i had an appointment and i said no, i tried explaining this to her and she said she had no recollection of it. She then sat me down and asked what i wanted. I get the same thing every time... short sides and back and longer on top, like a quiff. And so she did that. But my left side was noticeably longer than my right and the top was everywhere in terms of length. I have never had this had of an experience here, ever. She spent less than 10 minutes on me... and i dont want to jump to any conclusions, but i was definitely getting a racist vibe from her. If you are looking for a good place to get a cut... the JCPs salon is worth it. $34 may seem like a lot, but there is excellent service there and a shampoo included. I had an actual conversation with my barber that made my day there. The experience i had with cost cutters today was the complete opposite.

Guys: if you want a 3-minute hack job, this is the place for you. Okay, hack job is a little harsh for most cuts Ive had there but not far off.Im a slow learner. Ive gotten about a dozen haircuts here over the past couple years and probably 10 of them have been a waste of my money. Why did I keep going back? Because most of the time Im on a time crunch and dont plan ahead (although I always make appointments).Most recently, I arrived ~10min before my appointment. I was just out of work so didnt have time to run home to wash out the styling paste I had in my hair. The stylist didnt bother washing said paste out, instead attempted to use clippers through it (which worked okay) but then proceeded to cut the top with scissors not surprisingly getting the scissors all gummed up and nearly stuck in my hair. Anyways 3min after starting (and after asking her to do more than she initially thought necessary) I was out of the chair and paying this company $20. 10minutes later fixing it at home myself.I guess spending 10min on a haircut is just unreasonable for them. I will say there is a guy that works there - or used to - that gives stellar haircuts but only had him once. Every other stylist I have had has spent a max 10min on my hair.

I have always gone there for trims & cuts, and now after today I will never go back. The lady who trimmed my hair was the rudest woman I have ever met. She should definitely not be treating her customers the way she treated me if she wants to make tips and get referrals.

Incompetent stylist. Made me look like jarhead. I had a full head of long hair and asked for a bit off the top. End result was a short crew cut. Seemed like that was the only cut she knew

Ive been to 3 or 4 area Cost Cutters, since moving to Madison almost 3yrs ago, & usually they are very helpful & nice & interactive.....yesterday I had a really bad experience & will probably not be back to the Old Sauk Road location. Besides trying to overcharge me by $10 for an undercut buzz (that takes literally 5mins), and yelled at me for not speaking loud enough when asking my information, she had no personality & didnt smile once. Just did not feel welcome. I wont be backOn a positive note, McKee/Maple Grove location has been great so far & the one I will continue to frequent. Always friendly & happy to squeeze me in for my quick buzz.

Beware Agnes The Butcher of Middleton!This is the first time I have ever left a review on anything, besides Ebay. I have mixed feelings because my hairdresser was nice, but she was the worst I have ever had. I have gone to other Cost Cutters in the Madison area and have had very good haircuts, but fortune was not with me today. The hair cut took 6-7 minutes top because she just used clippers and scissors for my bangs. She had a pair of scissors in her hand for less than 30 seconds. Again maybe I made a mistake and she thought I was a sheep to get its wool cut off, because that was the haircut I got. I still gave her a tip which maybe I shouldnt have because now she thinks she did a good job. Anyways I would choose any other cost cutters besides this one.

When I called to make the appointment, i asked about coloring my sons hair. They asked what color his hair was and what color he wanted it, and his hair is light brown, and he wanted it blue. The person on the phone said that would need a two-step dye process. First bleaching. Then the color. When we got there, the lady who did the coloring did not seem to know what she was doing. She had to ask the other stylist everything, and she did not bleach his hair first before applying the color. Also, he wanted it cut a certain way, and she told him he should wait to cut it the way he wanted because they were already doing a lot. I paid $85 for this color and half-cut job, with a $15 tip, because i didnt know until aftet that she wasnt doing what she was supposed to. Then the color was gone with one washing! 😡🤬😡

Most Cost Cutters are hit or miss so I am typically leery of going into one. However, this place is better than most I have been to. The staff is professional and skilled in what they do. If you are need of a new haircut location, I would definitely recommend them.

Looked like a bowl was used to cut my hair. Had to have it redone somewhere else. Nice people, but won’t be back.

Lady cutting my hair seemed to want to move me through quickly, and only used a razor and comb. Didnt bother to finish up with scissors for a better cut

Whos this Agnes lady that cuts hair there?! And why couldnt i have gotten this Fallon i hear so much about? Agnes just cut my hair today. Sat me in her chair and without asking me anything starts off with, ok. This is what Im going to do... well she did it. She made one side longer than the other to cover the bald spot i dont have. She insisted i use the longer side to comb over to the front of the forehead to cover the hairline. Dont worry. I told her no. She wouldnt fix it. Did i also mention the neck hair i have that she didnt cut? Thats a nice touch. So im going elsewhere to have it fixed. She also insisted i dye my hair because my bland haircolor would look nice with highlights. And my bushy eyebrows could use tweezing. Im 26. I just needed a trim...

The employees here are WAY TOO PUSHY. They always tell me how bad my hair is & that I need to buy this or that. Today, one lady told me I needed to buy a hair mask & I told her no five times... she got it anyway & brought to the register. 🙄

So my appointment was to be at noon, but as I approached the door, I found that this Cost Cutters had had a bit of challenge in even getting their store open due to a mix-up with the keys! By then a small group of late appts. and walk-ins had gathered, but the two women kept the store atmosphere light and smooth by gently, but genuinely, apologizing for the late opening and the scheduling snafus it created. My chosen stylist was also unable to make it to my appt. so I was paired with someone I had never had before at Cost Cutters - which made me nervous, but I had a wedding I was to be the maid of honor at that following Saturday and could not miss this opportunity to get my hair cut and highlighted. So I took the chance and accepted the rearranged appt.Im so happy I decided to go with this new person! The job she did is amazing and the fact that it all cost under $55.00, tip included, is even better! Partial highlights, cut, blow dry, and style! WOW! And to know how uncertain the beginning of my appt. started. Unfortunately I am bad at remembering names, otherwise I would have mentioned it by now! I hope to call tomorrow to get that vital piece of info. of which I will then write another review in the hopes that by mentioning her name it will bring her the business she works so hard to make into happy customers at Cost Cutters!My only complaint is now I have TWO women at cost cutters who do a superb job! I now have to decide who to make an appt. with next time!p.s. -when I got home and took a better look in the mirror - I was even more thrilled at the detailed and precise job she did! Thanks for coming through for me cost cutters!
