As a parent it is fantastic to see a school so focused on building self esteem and teaching kids to be positive and happy. Our two kids love going and would go everyday if they could. The Senseis know the kids names and are always watching each kid and correcting them when needed. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a karate school.
I love this place! Fantastic instructors and staff. Extremely professional. Excellent for self-defense, discipline, confidence, self-esteem and more!
Excellent place for kids of all ages to learn mixed martial arts..instructors are friendly, courteous and to the point of making sure that all kids do the proper technique...well worth it for kids to learn self defense in this crazy world.
Just wanted to give an update on the experience we have had with American Karate Institute. My daughter has now been involved with AKI for about 3 months. The transformation I have seen in her is nothing short of a miracle. She started the program as a very shy person who was unsure of herself and who would get frustrated and give up when things got tough. The person she is today is the complete opposite. She has become very open, outgoing and, most importantly, very respectful. She loves her instructors. No matter now tired she is from school, she still wants to go to Karate and make us and her instructors proud. The instructors are AMAZING. They are true role models in my childs life. Many years ago, I was blessed to be in her same position being a student of American Karate Institute. It changed my life forever. I am so blessed that those who was able to change my life, are the same instructors who are guiding my daughter onto the same path of success. I want to personally thank all the staff at AKI for the amazing job they do. The lessons they teach goes way beyond techniques in martial arts. They also teach the students and the parents the spirituality behind martial arts and how to become a better person.
Enrolling my son in AKI was the best thing I could have done. I was recommended to AKI by a number of different people. It is a great institution and all it stands for as well. My son loves attending class each and every time. He looks forward to leveling up. He has gained so much confidence and self-worth from his sessions/lessons. Proud to be a part of the AKI Family. Thank you for all you guys instill into our kids.-The Collazo Family
I am coming back after 4 years of reviewing to say that this place has taught me values I have since taken for granted until I had realised how often I used them in my day to day life. Knowing how to fight is excellent, but learning core values such as integrity, hard work, and devotion are priceless. Master Angel and Master Regina understand this. I have nothing but respect for this place.
I attended as a child in the 90s and I was surprised the same instructor and owners were still so engaged with all the kids, I have signed up my son and am very excites with their new program there. I will absolutely sing my daughter up soon...
Ive been meaning to post a review, but honestly havent had the words to express how I feel about AKI Karate. Today is the day.Finding a sport that not only interested and engaged my son was something that was very important for me to be able to do for him. I wanted something he would like, stick to, and grow with. One day (five months ago), walking into the grocery store, my son saw all the children playing outside between classes in the same plaza. He ran over and practically begged me to let him take a class. That was five months ago. We signed up immediately and couldnt be happier that we did.In five months, my son has become more confident, stronger, and learned more than I could imagine. He gets so happy and excited to go. He is mentally taking in all of the positive reinforcement they instill, along with learning to be respectful and defend himself. As a single mom, I cant express how it feels to be able to expose my son to this experience. He tells me hes a black belt at heart and he wants continue until he has to go away to college (hes 7!) 🙏🥰This school has been around for quite a while. From the bank tellers husband that went there years ago when he was a kid, to random people I run into that tell me they attended or know someone that attended, their reputation is impeccable. My experience only reinforces the same feelings. The experience and lessons they are giving my son and all the other children that attend will forever be imbedded in their childhood memories and carried into their adulthood. I cannot express how grateful and blessed we are that AKI Karate is a part of our lives.Five stars isnt enough. They are committed to their students, organized, professional, incredibly caring, and structured. The lessons my son is learning about protecting himself, physically and mentally, along with being respectful are immeasurable. Master Lipsky and the rest of the AKI family are incredible role models.Thank you, AKI Karate for everything you are and everything you do for my son and all the students lives youve touched, are touching, guided, and continue to guide!!! 🙏❤️🥋
Best martial art school in town. The teachers are professional and give it their all to help the child succeed. They are well organized and have always exceeded my expectations.
The Gonzalezs family has worked with my grandchildren for nearly ten years. My grandson is a red belt and my granddaughter achieved her 1st degree black belt. AKI 35+ plus years of experience in the various disciplines of Martial Arts translates into fitness, confidence, leadership, perseverance, self esteem, and respect among others. My grandchildren today are better in school other sports and life because of their Mixed Martial Art training. Thank AKI ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💪💪💪🥋🙏💙🙏
Although relatively new to AKI, I can say the school has taken the necessary measures in terms of protecting students and staff during this time. Having my child take the free trial months ago, I can say the same was true back then. The facility is nice, very well maintained and always immaculate. The instructors take temperatures, sanitize hands and have appropriate seating arrangements for those that are able to come inside. Once full, the rest of parents or guardians understandably remain outside. On another note, the instructors are so far, so great! My kid LOVES the class! Thanks AKI ;)
I have so much respect for this institute. My son is probably the youngest kid in the class. We went in one day because we had been very unhappy with his current school ATA and where looking for an institute that stood by the values we felt Karate should give. After various friends recommending AKI we decided to head over and then to test our son. We loved the school and the techniques the instructors used toward the kids. Fast forward months later this school has been such a positive influence in my sons life and even his little brother can wait to grow up to join karate. They pretend play that they are the instructors and the students. My oldest gives out tips for good behavior and conducting a technique correctly. He looks forward to seeing his instructors every time we go in. As parents, one of the things we appreciate most about this institute is that they truly care about the progression your child makes. They don’t give out participation trophies! You either practice the skill and test well or you keep trying and don’t give up until you get it. That is a lesson in life I feel we all need to continue to teach our children.
I dont think I could put into words how the past four months has molded and changed my son Jayden. We walked into this both a little intimidated, more so me than him. But after just the first trial class, he fell in love! And I fell in love with seeing how happy he was. I dont think I have ever seen him so dedicated to something before, he practices at home, he makes sure we both are aware of his schedule weekly, and he truly has built such a confidence that even his teachers have noticed. I would like to describe my son as too nice, the kind of child to allow someone to be mean to him and say nothing but that has completely changed. He isnt rude, he isnt disrespectful, but he stands up for himself and he does so with confidence and pride. This institute has bettered my son in every aspect. These instructors know each child by name and give them such a sense of worth, its incredible. Each instructor has changed my sons life for the better and for that, no amount of thank yous could ever suffice.
My kids have been coming for over 6 months and they love it. They even have an overflow space so that they can adhere to social distancing. Everyone wears a mask( students and instructors).
Not sure how anyone can give this school less than 5 stars. The instructors here are beyond knowledgeable and dedicated to each student. All the kids always appear eager to to get in and give it their all. Their program works and I especially see it in my son. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with their program and everything they stand for. There’s no comparison to any other school in Miami!
Excellent experience! Highly recommend for children of all ages. Don’t hesitate. Best place in town!!!
I was a little nervous about being 25 y/o and just starting martial arts but after only ONE class they made me feel extremely confident!I’m so happy to be part of the AKI team! They are all such sweet people as well! Really recommend them!
We looked at many schools before making the decision to enrolled our son at AKI. We were so impressed from orientation day that we enrolled him for 1 year. We love how dedicated and passionate the instructors are. Our son was always reminding us about the upcoming classes. Even after Covid the instructors will keep in touch with us and send us classes to do online to keep him motivated an entertained. Not many schools will do that. Thank you for truly caring.
Great environment with high energy !!!
After careful research and consideration of the many Karate institutes in the area, we ultimately landed at AKI. The plan was to enroll my two little ones to fill the extracurricular void after school; instead, I enrolled as well! The genuine love and passion each Sensai has for the arts and teaching is unlike anything I have ever seen. Have you ever gone somewhere and met a person or group of people and instantly hit it off? Thats how welcoming they are! With the principles taught there, my kids and I have grown more confident, patient, loving and determined in all areas of life. The passion is palpable, and I am proud to be a part of the AKI family!
This is a great place for kids of all ages very professional yet friendly kids have a great time and learn valuable skills highly recommend very clean and strictly follow all the CDC guidelines
By far the best in what they do. After searching all over Miami for a good Institute, we finally found it. The instructors take their time to make sure the students learn the techniques correctly. The discipline they teach is incredible. My wife and I couldn’t have put our son in a better institute. The definitely exceeded out expectations. Thank you AKI Miami.
As parents we always want what is best for our kids and American Karate Institute has truly delivered. I have been attending AKI since 2012 and I find that they have literally partnered with me in reinforcing many things I wanted for my three kids, particularly the ability to stay focused, disciplined, show respect, be courageous and establish a can-do attitude, and not to mention they have learned some pretty amazing skills. Mr. G, Mrs. G, Master Lipsky, Master Laso, Master Otero and Master Ulyses each have their unique qualities and abilities that have truly been inspirational to my kids. Their dedication to the martial arts and the love and respect they show their students is second to none. I truly believe that AKI has been an amazing investment in my kids and our family that will last a lifetime. AKI never give up!
They have a great program for kids if not the best, I known this place for more than 22 years this because my older son was in this program before, now my 9 year old started at 6 year old. Any issues or concerns they are always there to solve it, I know it because I had one with my little one and they provide the support I needed it for my son to continued in the program, the solution is easy if you like it you stay if not move on! but dont criticized if you didnt try it first. all my stars to AKI.
Was appalled when i brought my son little muhammad to the American Karate Institute today as i was going to sign him up for karate lessons. every instructor was inside with other children without wearing masks, despite being cdc guidelines for gymnasiums and athletic institutions. social distancing was not being enforced or practiced and those who did have masks and face shields were not even wearing it properly.if they cant even be trusted to wear a mask, how are they to be trusted with our childrens safety??
American Karate Institute is definitely the best karate school in Miami! We tried 2 other ones before AKI, and he did not want to participate and was scared. After his trial class at AKI, he was excited Tonlearn karate and wanted me to sign him up right away. He loves coming to class and his instructors are amazing! We were sad when they had to close due to the pandemic, but once they reopened they made us feel safe to come to class and my son couldn’t be happier!
I absolutely adore this place! My son started a few months ago in their little eagles program and he loves it! The location is a little out of our way, but it is so worth it. This is the best karate institute you will find in Miami. I love watching the interaction between the instructors and the kids. You can see how much passion and dedication they have in what they teach. Your kids will learn discipline, respect and so much more. I cannot wait to see how much more my son will evolve here!
My son Sebastian has been already 1 year in AKI Miami, he loves every class, his confidence has been growing, Exponentially, he is more focus even iat school, because I ve seen the whole devellopment taking place not only the physical aspect, he used to be bullied at birthday parties, but not anymore!!and you can see the dedication of Every teacher. Also I am a witness of the importance an enforcement of the CDC guidelines in every class even with us the parents. I strongly recommend AKI Miami.
My son started going to American Karate Institute right before his 5th birthday and from the very first day I was impressed by the organization and focus on spiritual principles that the school is founded on. Like Honesty, Integrity, Politeness, Loyalty, Compassion, Courage and Justice which I teach in my home. They were very organized and I liked that there was a good instructor to student ratio. This addressed my concern that my son might get board. Something else impressed me, and that was they know each kids name. Let me tell you there are a lot of students and that alone is not easy. There are so many positive things I can say about the school that it is hard to just say one without leaving something out. Let’s just say that I looked at many other schools and American Karate Institute was by far the best.My son is now 8 and I have seen him learn so much more other than karate. He has respect, he listens, he isn’t shy, and is becoming an honorable young boy.I normally do not leave reviews but I felt this was my way of sharing my experience with others and to show my appreciation for all the instructors at AKI and most of all to Mrs. G and Mr. G for all the hard work they have put Into all of the students that have gone through the school. Thank you dearly from the bottom of our heart. We look forward to many more years at the school and we are so happy we have committed to AKI. Best decision ever. The Rylands
As a child, my husband attended AKI and now our child attends as a student. We have been extremely happy with the classes and safety measures that we have witnessed. We are always greeted with a warm welcome, temperature check and a squirt of hand sanitizer before being allowed into the building. In the beginning we worried how the masks would work since it can be hard for a child to keep it on throughout class, but they have done a great job having the kids keep them on the entire class. We were also concerned with how they would social distance, but while closed for COVID they finished the edition to their facilities and expanded the amount of space available. They have also clearly marked where students are to be standing. We are very pleased with all the measures they have completed to keep our child safe. We hope to continue to be part of the AKI family for many years to come.
AKI is an amazing place for kids to learn about MMA and to apply the TRUE meaning of Martial Arts in their daily life. The owners and trainers in AKI are true Masters in motivation and learning. My son is only 8 years old and has been with the AKI system for 3 years now. His confidence and self worth has grown further than what my wife and I could have done on our own. AKI has become an extension of my family as they play a big part of my sons daily life lessons. It’s true, it takes a village to raise a child and AKI should be part of your village. Between family time, school time and AKI time. Your child will develop into a well discipline adult with extreme confidence to conquer any citation that they may encounter in life. I highly recommend American Karate Institute.
AKI takes the COVID precautions very seriously. If not I would not bring my grandson there. Not only do they require masks on students, I have observed that it is being enforced. When it is time for dismissal they ask the parents to clear the sidewalk in front and dismiss one child at a time to the parent. On arrival they only let one child in at a time, they take their temperature before going to class. Also, they have markers on the floor to maintain social distancing.I feel that they are taking the covid serious and are very professional about. They are very conscience about covid and karate teaching.
We have had our child at AKI miami for almost 3 years. We are beyond pleased with the level of professionalism, kindness and family/friendly atmosphere that the AKI staff has instilled and created. They truly care for each child and strive to bring out the best in each student. The place has always been clean and now with the COVID restrictions and guidelines they have maintained a sanitized and clean environment. I have seen them temperature check and hand sanitize each student as they come in. I have often forgotten my child’s face mask and they have ask me for one before allowing him in or giving him one in case I left it behind. Also, the instructors always have on their face coverings as well. This place is safe and more importantly they take the techniques they teach very serious to ensure each student is being taught at the highest standard.
Our son, Dominic, has been taking MMA lessons at American Karate Institute for over a year and we have just renewed for two more years. The senseis are amazing with the kids and Dominic has grown tremendously in the time he has been going to AKI. AKI has been following all of the CDC guidelines to the letter. My son attends three times a week and there have not been any classes where the instructors and students have not been wearing masks or shields . The sanitizing and health checks are done consistently. I am 100% comfortable in knowing that my son will be safe attending his MMA lessons at this amazing school. Many kudos to AKI!
This place is amazing! The professors are great, they focus highly on each individual student. The owners are great and they really care of each person. They even called me when my kids were sick to check up on them and assure they stay on track. Highly recommend this place.
AKI is absolutely amazing! My husband and I have been 150% committed to our sons martial arts training at AKI since he was 4 years old. I can honestly say that the strides hes made since first enrolling in the program, a little over one year ago, have been marvelous! His discipline, focus, and desire to excel and attend classes are extremely evident. The curriculum taught by Masters Regina and Angel Gonzalez, Master Daryl Lipsky, and the rest of the instructors is far superior to all other martial schools in Miami. The way they in which they are revered and respected by their current and former students is a true testament to their teaching ability and skill set. We cant say enough about the caliber of instruction given to our son and the rest of the students at AKI. Are son will undoubtedly be enrolled at this school for many years.
I’m often asked by other karate parents how my son is almost a Brown belt at only 6 years old? Since he turned 4, this little man has attended class 30 times a month, 6 days a week except Sundays, including 3 private lessons a week for going on 3 years. Due to his age he’s had to spend double the time and attend double the amount of classes as the older kids to get to where he is. He’s literally had to pass each belt level twice and regardless of his age he’s held to the same standards as the older students in his belt level. You’d be hard pressed to find a child who’s put in more time and worked harder. While I’ve been dedicated to his MMA training since day one, ultimately he is the one putting in the work. I couldn’t be any prouder of our son for what he’s accomplished at such a young age, and I can’t express my gratitude enough to Sensei Javier Laso and the instructors @Aki_miami for the role they’ve played in shaping his success. Their positive influence and moral guidance assure us that our child will make the most of his training to eventually earn his junior black belt and become a disciplined, respectful and succesful young man.
American Karate Institute has changed the lives of both my sons Craig & Daniel since the moment i brought them in for a free class. All their instructors are involved, and my children cant get enough of this place. Thank you Mrs.G & Master Angel for giving both my sons the confidence & courage they been lacking!
AKI is a very sincere and inspiring school. The classes are taught with high energy, and the instructors also try to instill moral and ethical values. The instructors appear to truly care about there students. That is a very rare trait to have in a lot of martial art schools. I’m very happy to train at AKI. “Never Give Up”. You gotta love it.
AKI Miami has been a huge boost in my sons confidence. Awesome program in mixed martial arts. The instructors really connect with each student. The core values they teach are tools that can enrich a lifetime. We are so glad we joined the program, the past 3 years have been truly remarkable and we look forward to many more. Thank you AKI team.
I love this place. Everyone there is committed to providing the best all around education for our children. I tried a couple of places before coming here and I’m amazed with my son’s progress and the professionalism of all instructors.
Me and my husband are so proud that weve enrolled our teenager and our young daughter at the American Karate Institute. They always greet us with such compassion, and i cant say enough great things about Master Regina & Angel Gonzalez. They really do love what they do & they truly care about our kids, and for that I am grateful. Thank you AKI!
My daughter has been at the school for a couple of years and I can honestly tell you that not only have they done an incredible job of teaching her self-defense, but they have also given her the greatest gift which is confidence, self-worth and respect. As a parent we can only wish that our kids interact with people who are going to mold and help them grow in a positive way and for this I thank the instructors AKI karate Institute.
Its been a couple months now since we decided to put our daughter Skylar in the American Karate Institute and I have to say its one of the best decisions weve made. The confidence boost shes had since then is unreal! The genuine love and care that is put into this program is absolutely amazing. Everyone is so professional and friendly, I recommend AKI to anyone thinking of putting their kid in martial arts. Im excited to watch her continue and grow from this experience!
Through the pandemic AKI has stayed in touch with my son and family. They called us multiple times just to ask if we were ok. They also found creative ways to help their students practice mixed martial arts. They posted homework and even started zoom classes that were surprisingly high quality and detailed. I Didn’t think learning karate virtually was possible until I saw AKI do it. AKI didn’t even charge for the support they gave during this pandemic and has graciously frozen our accounts so our kids dont lose any class time. Very classy move AKI! Ty
Excellent School for Mix Martial Arts, their teaching goes beyond personal defense because they implement Moral Values like as integrity, Love for what you do, and honesty. In the 3 years that my son has attended, his personality has being shaped as a self confident young man, he is focus and alert, and he fully understand that he never starts a fight but finishes it. Besides sensei also advise parents in health eating habits.
This is the best organization to entrust the enrichment of your child’s development. From confidence, to perseverance...this is where they’ll get it. Accomplishments are earned. Keep up the fantastic work.
I am extremely disappointed with this place! My family is one of the many affected by COVID-19 and these people dared to take our money, while the place is closed for indefinite amount of time and kids are not getting classes. My sons membership fee was automatically withdrawn the first week of March 2020, soon after the school closed due to the pandemic, I did not request a refund for March. To my surprise, on April 7, I was charged the full membership fee, even though the school is not opening any time soon.I assumed it was a mistake and contacted the owner Mrs.Gonzales, I politely requested a refund and further explained to her that I was directly affected by the pandemic and our family could not afford to waste almost $200, especially on services not being received.Mrs. Gonzalez denied my request and instead offered to extended the membership an additional month at the end of the agreement term. I advised her that would not help with the current financial situation and reminded her were a military family and will most likely be relocated by that time.Mrs. Gonzalez reaffirmed she would not refund the money and suggested I cancel my sons membership So, all the money spent on the uniform, gear, and belts was practically thrown in the trash. But most importantly, my sons belt progress and dedication to the program meant nothing, he now has to start from 0 at new academy.
Owner took our (probably all school enrolled students) money for future months as he was forced to close because of the unfortunate COVID19 and is promising to add it to the end of contract. What if we dont want that! We all should have the choice. It is sad that this place took advantage of COVID19 to take money from its members. Owner refuses to return it and legal action is in process. Please think it over carefully before doing long term contracts with this place.
Excellent environment, excellent teachers, kids experience and learn MMA from the very best Masters, they gain confidence, discipline and respect. If you want your kid to grow confidence and never give up, this is the place to be!
25 years ago my Dad enrolled me in AKI, it was one of the best things he did for my future. The mental strength and general awareness they’ve helped instilled in me has been hugely beneficial in my professional life as well as my personal life.Learning how to defend yourself is part of the fun but there is so much more involved. My son now attends AKI and I see the same life lessons being taught to my son.
We drive all the way from Homestead to AKI because they have an awesome curriculum and my son loves it there. It’s like a big family. They do an amazing job with the kids. ❤️
This review begins 27 years ago when my brother and I began at AKI. Today my two sons are both proud members of American Karate Institute. I do not leave many, if any reviews but I felt that the school merits the few minutes it takes to write this. The biggest change I have seen with my youngest son who typically is the smallest amongst his friends and classmates. He may be small but certainly his confidence has blossomed since joining AKI.He believes he can do anything, whether its breaking boards, taking someone down in grappling, and now he believes he can achieve great things in school as well. He will earn Honor roll this semester his first year in Middle School . My older son, a teenager... I can see the difference between him and his friends and or classmates. Eye contact, handshakes, greeting people and respect. Not only values I teach at home but clearly values that AKI teaches kids daily. We have recommended this school to friends, some have joined and they too I can already see a change. This is no different than what they taught 30 years ago, sure the techniques are different, but the message is the same.Believe in yourself and you can do anything !The family atmosphere is wonderful, I feel like every teacher knows every students name.WE highly recommend.Medina
Aki miami has helped my kid in developing his confidence and sense of protection for others. He has improved in every aspect of his life, including school, from having so many difficulties interacting with other kids and teachers to be a top student nowadays.
I love this place it is amazing I love the students, the staff, and this place!
My son started the program 3 years ago, we are extremely happy and thankful of how much he has grown. When he started he used to be very playful and I just wanted to go inside and pull his ears, many times Mr Gonzalez told me dont worry, he will change and he was right. Master Lipsky has emailed me before when my son has been sick to ask how he is doing. Mr Laso has been his guardian angel, he has been very helpful and very patient, loves and enjoy teaching, if my son is misbehaving at home or not doing good at school and I mention I will tell his instructors he stops immediately. Thank you !! You guys really make a difference and this along many other things make you UNIQUE.
The best martial arts school, teachers are committed to teach not only martials arts. They are a filosofy
We are very impressed with the level of attentiveness given by the instructors and staff at American Karate Institute. The personalized support and attention to detail with every child, for each skill, in every class is just amazing! Because of the training she is receiving at AKI, our daughter is developing her physical skills while also improving her ability to focus and maintain self control. We are happy to have found a place that emphasizes the importance of a strong body, strong mind and a never give up attitude that will be the foundation to a lifelong positive mindset for our child.
It’s sad the lengths people will go to make up lies. Every time I take my son everyone is always wearing their masks and practicing social distancing. They only let a number of certain people inside and they always give hand sanitizer out to everyone. All the kids wear masks, everyone that works there wears a mask and the parents.
My son has been a student at AKI since he was in Little Eagles. He is now a proud brown belt working his way up to where he wants to go in this sport. All of the instructors are amazing with all the kids (and it blows my mind how sensei Lipsky and sensei Laso know all the kids names in that school. Its alot of kids!! Lol!) Mrs. G and Mr. G are amazing and always professional. And youll be a lucky person if you happen to catch Mr. G sitting right next to you just telling you so many stories. Most importantly my son enjoys going to his class cause they make it fun for them! Best karate school in the west kendall area. Highly recommended!
My son Luke has been a student at AKI since he tuned 4. He is now going on his 4th year at AKI and we continue being firm believers of the caliber of instruction they provide. So much is our commitment to Luke’s training that he’s attended more than 230 classes during each of his 3 years. Their curriculum is second to none.
Wonderful place of deep knowledge. Owned by a family of karate champions: great people who care, and its reflected on the staff. Lots of MMA skills acquired in an organized & efficient system. Every belt is earned. And its fun.
AKI is the best!!! Masker Lipsky is amazing! High quality martial art training. All the instructors truly care about each and every child.
This place is a gem! My son is a Little Eagle and in just a couple of months has grown so so much. I live about 30 mins away and regardless of the distance I would choose AKI over and over again!
AKI is an excellent martial arts academy that always goes above and beyond in everything. This family owned business treats all of their clients with the upmost level of respect and professionalism. All of the instructors are excellent and seem to genuinely enjoy teaching the kids. AKI has helped improve my child’s behavior while teaching him discipline and self defense. This academy will make their students earn all their tips and belts, the honor of wearing a black belt will not be easily rewarded. AKI operates in a family oriented environment always looking to build up our child’s character and discipline. Thank you for all your hard work and consistent professionalism, we are truly fortunate to have found such a great school for our son.
I enrolled my son in the American karate academy and have had nothing but issues from the very start. First let me start by saying this place is over filled with students on an average day they have far to many students per teachers. Most of the time I felt my child wasn’t getting what was originally told the class would be like. Second the iPad that they use to check in with are constantly not working, the room where parents can watch the kids is almost always full (most classes I watched from through the outside window). That same room doesn’t have ac so on hot days it’s uncomfortable when you can find a spot. The wife runs the front office part, she is completely overwhelmed and unorganized with the over abundance of students they have. The office like I said is so small that if there’s other parents with concerns. Good luck getting seen in a timely manner. The app they provided us was constantly glitching from the beginning when I used the temporary password to login. It had already been used and took her over a week to figure out. Third, we took my son regularly on an average of three times per week and when I noticed my son wasn’t receiving his tips on time. I showed the wife a picture of my son not having the number of tips he was supposed to have. She then told me it was a computer error. That never got fixed btw. Then when it was time or so I thought for him to get his belt she informed me that he needed color tips. Which was not what was verbally discussed at the orientation. In fact most of the program was not explained to us. We spend over three months coming in three times a week. Not once did they tell us he should have been earning colored tips. They told us that to make up for it. They would test him for his colored tips and then he would be ready for his next belt. We kept giving them faith that they will do right by us and give him his next belt. Unfortunately They through another unclear curve ball. Saying we need a gold tip. When the last conversation we had they told us he would be ready. With so many issues I asked them to fallow through with there verbal agreement to cancel my contract with my dissatisfying experience. When I called to cancel my contract with them she told me she would email me the cancellation process and that she wouldn’t verbally discuss the cancellation process. What kind of honest company won’t discuss their processes. She did say that it would be based on the number of classes. Which I then brought up how I have a picture of my son with different tips than what her system shows. Reminding her of my previous issues. She then hung up on me saying she doesn’t have time for me. May be she doesn’t have time for me because they running to many children out of a tiny dojo. This place made us feel like my kid was one many and doesn’t matter to them. Most of all I am dissatisfied with the costumer service. I have had nothing but excuses and blaming from these people have yet to have any real solution. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. Come to this place if you want a two second orientation. THIS PLACE IS OVERPRICED, OVER PACKED AND DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOUR SATISFACTION!
I have one major gripe and its their belt promotion policy. On there website they clearly say that if a kid is under 9 years old they must go through striped half belts because due to their age it takes longer to master the skills. That being said. Myself and other parents have noticed that there are several kids that are not only younger than 9 years old but in most cases 7 years and younger, even 5 years old, that are excused from having to go through half belts because they have an older brother/sister that doesnt have to go through half belts and the parent wants both kids to have the same belt so they dont have to come to different classes. The kids that are skipping the half belts are no where near qualified or ready for the next level, but because the parent wants them together in the same class, the AKI instructors promote the young kid to the higher solid belt. These kids end up advancing faster and take less classes than our kids who have had to go through the striped half belts, anywhere from 40 or more classes for each belt. Having only a certain amount of classes per year in my contract, my child will burn through more classes than those kids that are being allowed to skip half belts. While I think AKI is a good karate school, I feel they are devaluing their belt system by promoting kids to a level they are not skilled enough nor physically ready to be in and they are making other parents spend more money by making their kid go through half belts. They need to stop this and abide by the rules they have put forth in their program. Ive seen a few really young kids that went from Level 1 which is 5 years old and they went straight to gold belt because of an older sister. This is not only very unfair but disrespectful to parents who have to renew their contract more often because their kid attends more classes because of half belts. While you think youre helping out some parents, youre angering several more by these unfair practices and are spending a lot of money to take their child to AKI.
Great Place! We have been part of AKI family for more than 5 years! Yes, AKI Miami is a family.Awesome instructors!!! They work to develop the students physically, mentally and spiritually. Our son started when he was 5, and they have positively influenced him. Our child has learnt respect, discipline, confidence and hard work, they are helping us to prepare our child for success. They’re absolutely amazing!!! We highly recommend them!!!
I am the parent of a boy with autism and was reluctant to put him in martial arts because I was scared he would get hurt or not be able to keep up. My son is now 12 years old and has been in different types of therapy since he was 11 months old. At the age of ten he told us he did not want any more therapy and our response was that he would have to pick a sport in order to stop therapy. He chose karate and I can honestly say that from the very first day he started the instructors were very welcoming and helped build up his self esteem tremendously. He is now a blue belt and doing great. The AKI family has been a blessing for our child and the way they work with him is the best possible therapy he can get at this stage of his life. The reason I find this to be a great therapy is because he has to stay focused throughout the class and uses both fine and gross motor skills. Forever grateful for all they have done and continue to do for our son.Thank you AKI family
GREAT SCHOOL. THE BEST IN MIAMI.THANKS MR G
The instructors are amazing.. Its a family oriented which I love. They give the kids confidence and structure. They show the kids how to give and earn respect. My kids look forward to karate.
AKI Miami is a unique MMA school in the heart of Kendall. As a parent, I embrace the AKI culture and place a high value on how the instructors empower each student to engage in the class. This is a place where kids develop mind, body and spirit - the whole package to enjoy a life well lived.
AKI is truly amazing. My daughters have been attending AKI since 2017. From the first couple of classes, I saw a dramatic change in my girls. Their self-confidence improved and they applied the AKI motto Never Give Up to there lives. Even their school teachers have said that their drive for school work has changed because they complete every task without a problem. All the Instructors are committed to the students. Their patience to deal with children is commendable. They engage the students individually and praise them in front of their peers. This concept is great because it builds the students confidence. The staff is great at AKI. They are approachable and I have not had any issues at this school. My girls look forward to going to class three times a week. Everyday after class they always have something positive to say.Ive had my girls in both soccer and dance in the past. After sometime they both said they felt bored and did not want to participate anymore.I am blessed that my girls are part of the AKI family and I will continue bringing my daughters to this MMA school.Thank you, AKI Family. Words are not enough for the gratitude I have.
Our kid has been parts of this amazing institute for more than 3 years, we definitely love the program and hold the highest respect and gratitude for the staff.
AKI IS VERY POPULAR FOR MANY REASONS...It’s a high quality program that has existed for almost 40 years. Their curriculum has been developed over time, and they will fine tune it if needed while always considering what the students need. It’s very structured and ORGANIZED, and the Masters have implemented technology to make it easier for everyone. Since the very beginning of my children’s enrollment, Mrs. G showed me the Team App, and all the information needed for each class and belt requirements are there, as well as which classes they’ve taken. It’s ALL there!Their instructors are phenomenal. I watch in amazement at Master Lipsky with the 5 to 6 year olds especially, and it just reaffirms our commitment to this school. His patience and use of positive reinforcement works, and those kids work harder because they gain self-confidence in themselves and their abilities. The first time I saw this class, I was blown away with how those little kids performed! Sensei Laso’s drive and passion for his students’ martial arts education shows; he is always seeking their improvement with hard work and consistency. The students receive feedback and redirection from all the instructors throughout the class. Sometimes the classes ARE packed, but from what I understand, AKI is going to expand into the space next door for more room or to break classes up into smaller ones.Achieving the Black Belt is HARD! Those belts are not given, they are earned. The students work toward this long-term goal by achieving smaller short-term goals- black tips, color tips and belts. My children know that in order to receive their color tips when they test, they need to bring their A-game, and if they don’t earn it, they will have to practice and focus better next time. MMA is great for self-defense, but AKI is teaching my kids so much more…valuable life skills- PERSEVERANCE, KINDNESS, SELF-CONTROL, HONESTY, DISCIPLINE AND RESPECT. I definitely see the difference in my children. These reasons and more are why we have been here for 3 years, and will continue for many more. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful program!
I enrolled my son in AKI last August and he is currently a proud gold belt. While eating breakfast this morning, I told him his program was up to September. I asked him if he wanted to continue going to AKI... his answer to me shows me that he loves going to AKI. He told me he wants a black belt to which I told him it would take a couple of years, hard work and dedication. He said ok. Truthfully, that tells me he is happy going to AKI. Yes, I find Mrs G is often overwhelmed running the office by herself, but she’s a pro. Always greets you with a smile and a cheerful disposition. Yes! It’s money, it takes money to run a business. But guess what? If they were so bad, I don’t think they’d still be in business for 35+ years like they have been. I have friends who used to go to AKI as kids... they are now in their early 40’s if that tells you anything. I’m happy with AKI, I’m happy with their traditions, most importantly, I’m happy that my kid is happy and that is in great part to the wonderful instructors and staff at AKI. Now if we can talk about more parent seating, that’d be great. Thank you AKI! Here’s to many more years growing with you guys!!!!
A very good friend of mine caught my attention with his Instagram posts about his sons karate experience. I was intrigued by all the positive vibes i received every time he posted a picture. My son, Zachary, had been in and out of team sports and had not really found his passion. The odds were stacked against us logistically, however, we agreed to a trial class and the rest is history!! I really can not put into words how this decision has made all the difference! The level of respect and discipline is like nothing I have seen before. It is clear the Instructors pass on their passion to the children, leading by example. We are very grateful for AKI and look forward to many years more! Thank you so much!!!
The best MMA School in MIami. My sons Adam has been attending AKI for over 2 years and has shown incredible growth in his confidence & discipline. The facility is state of the art, the attention to detail by their staff and instructors is second to none. Thank you AKI for all that youve done for us!
They never showed my daughter respect especially being the first female to receive her black belt. They never recorded my daughter on her graduation day, they only recorded when one of the black belts earned his second degree, but never chose to record my daughters accomplishment and evidence that she also earned her black belt, which took close to 7 years to accomplish. She got disrespected verbally and physically by the one of the black junior students and they favored his actions. They never made him apologize nor did they care to find a way to solve the problem. Mr & Mrs G did nothing to represent my daughter and the issues that occurred. And with the movements that go on like the “MeToo” movement, you would think that in a dojo, with “morales”, the girls/ women would be respected more and show young boys”men” how to respect women . Moreover, even Mrs. G, a women herself hadn’t shown any sympathy or remorse for my daughter during the situations. Don’t let their affirmation fool you. Their main concern is money, money and more money! Trust me, cause we were not the only ones/ that felt this way towards this school. There are other families that spent lots of money, time and commitment and they show no love at the end only attitude because of the money!! I’m just the first to speak up!Facts, their SON never passed the black belt test like all the others. Ask if they got video of him testing for the black belt. I know cause I was there. If I would’ve shown their true colors, the school would kick me out because I’m standing for knowing what is right especially for my young woman, my daughter! Last thing, they take one month vacation on your contract throughout the year and the prices are a lot more expensive. They say, the increase is for paying for black belt instructors. But the instructors end up leaving and the price does compensate the change. More money more money. Money is taking over the MORALE!Mrs. G, I raise my kids to be respectful, honest and hardworking. If it wasn’t for me being the man that I am, my kids would not be successful in your school. And you know how to be a political two face business person because if I can find al the other family members, they would have a different input on what you put in your response. Oh and thank you for not giving my daughter a job opportunity at the school as a female black belt. and she really wanted to be part of the black belt family, and the opportunity was never given. So let’s keep it REAL!
Truly one of the best martial arts schools in the country! They are the real deal and offer a very well rounded martial arts curriculum from top to bottom! You will be very impressed with their team and students.
For nearly 3 years we called AKI home, we absolutely loved the instructors, sensei and Mr. & Mrs. G. Our son Daniel had an amazing experience, it boosted his confidence and made his self-esteem rise to a whole new level. Hes an outgoing and well rounded student and we can attribute a lot of that to AKI! We cant thank you enough! Love-the Decena Fam.
This is a high-paced, high-energy program that has kept my hard-to-impress child interested for almost two years. The instructors show they truly care about each individual student’s success by offering the right balance of discipline and patience. As a student who struggles with ADHD and Dyslexia, my son’s benefits of the program offered by AKI Miami go beyond martial arts skills. His teachers tell me he focuses better in class and his self-esteem has dramatically improved as well.Watch the AKI Miami video on their website. This place delivers exactly what they promise and more!
This mixed martial arts school is amazing. My two daughters have been attending AKI for the last two years. My girls have honestly matured in so many ways and I could say that AKI has really helped along the way. This school has taught them to never give up and face any challenge that comes there way. This confidence has helped them in both school and with dealing with everyday situations. Thank you, AKI Family.
My husband did his research on different Karate dojos in Miami and AKI is the only location that made a lasting impression. They explain their ways of practice, and the overall message they want to instill in their students. They were the only location that sounded like they knew what they were doing and how to do it. My daughter is progressing very well, and is mastering age-appropriate skills. We love the positive interaction the Senseis have with the students. We love the accountability the students are held to and the positive family atmosphere. Highly recommend!
My son Is more confidence about himself and he always says I never give up.
Five stars for AKI!! So thankful to have our son be a part of this amazing school and family ! Master Lipsky, thank you for being so genuine and caring with Zach. Your example is truly phenomenal . Thank you to all of the Sensei’s for their dedication to all of the students and big thanks to Master Angel and Mrs. G for always greeting us with warm hellos and above all respect ! AKI is the best!
AKI is a wonderful place to learn a variety of skills. The staff is well organized, highly trained and excellent with kids of all ages. We have two kids enrolled and they love it. Highly recommended.
My son has been attending this school for almost 3 years. The teachers are exceptionally good. They are very nurturing and spend time building their confidence and instilling discipline. My boy was born prematurely so he had issues with balance and low muscle tone. Thanks in part to AKI, those issues are all but gone. If you are considering a martial arts school for your child, AKI is a no-brainer.
My son Luca loves AKI. This is the most organized and well put together karate institute. The mere fact that they are a family run business for over 30 years says a lot of their dedication to all their staff and students. My son learns to have no fear, never give up, to have compassion and be dedicated. My five stars go to Master Lipsky for his patience, discipline, and love for all his students. Luca talks about Master Lipsky every day and realized the positive impact he has in his life. I am thankful to God for finding AKI.
Almost a year ago my son was timid and shy. Just got his green belt and we have a new kid on the block. So happy we put him in these classes... #bullyproof #readyForMiddleSchool
Over 35 years ago, I was one of the first few students taught by Mr. and Mrs Gonzalez at there first location with Mr Lipsky as a fellow student and friend. What I was taught back then has always stuck with me throughout my life. I would not be the person I am today without the core values they teach. Today I find myself reliving a piece of that time again in my life. I have the great honor of sharing something with my beautiful daughter of 7 years old, a piece of her daddy’s history. This past week she began as a new student here at AKI. I find myself humbled and taken back by seeing my daughter being taught those same core values, that I hold so dear, by the same amazing people that taught those same values to myself. Seeing my daughter with Mr. and Mrs Gonzalez being taught the same as I was with them over 30 years ago is an experience that doesn’t come very often. A great addition to this experience is that Mr. Lipsky, whom I was a fellow student with, get to add to this amazing experience of guiding my daughter along her own path in life’s journey. In just a short time, I have seen my daughter transform from someone who is shy and unsure of herself, to a girl coming out of her shell and well on her way to her path of success. We are truly blessed to have AKI, and all of there amazing instructors, a part of both my life, and the life of my daughter Abigail. American Karate Institute is much MORE than a place that teaches martial arts. Its a place that teaches all its students, former and current, who they really are. That is something you just cant put a price on. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs Gonzalez on the creation of such an amazing institution of Life, and of the Martial Arts. We will always be great full....
Been here for 18 months with our 8 year old son and his confidence has blossomed here. AKI pays ultimate attention to detail and and encourages respect and toughness!
Our son, who is 14, has been with AKI since he was in kindergarten. It has been such a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the AKI family for so long. It was not just a memorable experience, but a transformative one for him. He struggled a lot over the years but their unique brand of warmth but firmness and the teaching of discipline and respect was so good for him and really helped him a lot. He has gained so much self-confidence and self-awareness over the years through the school. He has overcome some of his challenges to grow into a fine young man – most importantly, a nice young man, with a really good heart - partly because of AKI and the teachers there, particularly Sensei Lipsky, who is incredible (he has an amazing gift in dealing with kids – and how he remembers the names of all the kids in the school, I will never know!). It takes a village to raise a child, and AKI was definitely part of my son’s. For that, we will always be incredibly grateful. My son has decided, as he starts high school in the fall, to move on and stop taking classes, which saddens me, as I can’t imagine it not being in our lives anymore. But they will always be in our hearts. We strongly and highly recommend them!!!
By far the best Mixed Martial Arts school in Miami. Amazing instructors, Angel, Regina, Darryle, Javier are incredible, they are attentive, passionate and present the best customer service experience to all parents and students. Please be sure to ask For a free trial class for yourself or your child and check out their website as well so you can see why this place is the Best MMA school in Miami!
Our son, Lucas started AKI about a year and a half ago and we absolutely love it here. The instructors are beyond amazing and really love to see a child grow, gain confidence and succeed. We can not say enough about everyone, especially Master Lipsky & Mr. Laso. We are so happy to be a part of the AKI family.
The BEST!!!! We LOVE America Karate Institute ❤🥋
Great teachers and atmosphere!
Great teachers! Great school!
As a student here, I can wholeheartedly say that AKI is a truly outstanding place. First off, the Sensei are outstanding. They bring you to the limits, but not to the point where you are overexerting yourselves. They dont only care about teaching martial arts, but they care about their students. I came back years after I left AKI, and they still treated me with the same positive and respectful attitude. That being said, AKI holds the expectation that ever belt is earned through the hard work. They dont just hand them to you after doing a few lessons. You are tested on your skills and once you have displayed true mastery for that belt level, then you are given the next belt. I have been to both children and adult classes, both are engaging, The teachers are always able to remain flexible with their teaching, depending on the class. Of course, I could go on and on about their techniques and great teaching style. However, the most important thing about AKI is that they impart resounding wisdom upon their students. I can say from experience that they train their students to be resilient to failures, to accept that failure will be a result, yet the important thing is to get back up. Years from now, I might forget their technique, but I will never forget the lessons they have taught me. AKI truly does shape their students into tough, fine people, both in body and in spirit
