Picked up car and suspected that there was a strange smell. Manger convinced me it was nothing. Picked up the family they immediately confirmed the car smelled like urine. I immediately called the location: 216 16th Miami. Manger of Thrifty / Dollar LUIS SALOMON did nothing and refused to acknowledge the issue.I returned the vehicle. I was charged for a single day rental even though the car was returned within 25min (driven 4miles) of being picked up - see attached photo of receipt.The manager also charged a $25 early return fee. LUIS SALOMON Became combative I had to call the police to address his behaviour.Rental contract number RR 982383640This was surprisingly the manager of the location. Thirty / Dollar do better when hiring managers that represent you to the publicPolice arrived and questioned the manger in regards to the smell. The manger claimed that the smell was from the cleaner used to sanitize the car. Conveniently the manager was not able to produce the cleaner for the officer to confirm the bogus claim.Do not use this location. Reserve car online months in advance. When I got there to rent a car they tried to charge me the entire rental amount, along with astronomical amount of a deposit. Then they said they wouldnt take my credit card because it didnt have a chip in it. And wanted to charge me an extra $500 to use my debit card. They started off my entire honeymoon vacation on a sour note. Do not use these jerks at all cost!!!!

Worst experience of my life. I will never rent with this company again. One issue after another that could have been fixed with just a little customer service but no one answered a phone or was able to help. I guess they have enough business so helping you out is not a priority.

DO NOT RENT A CAR HERE!Rented a car, had a confirmation email that showed I prepaid for the vehicle. We show up and are told (like all these other reviews) that there are no cars and 30+ people ahead of us. She said she’d have one for us next week...She also kept saying I didn’t pay even when showing receipt. Pretty sure this business is illegal!!Ana- learn some customer service!! Unfriendly, unhelpful and basically told us to go somewhere else and call customer service.

One of the worst car rental places I have ever been in. The lady at the desk checking on us had a personality next to none. We were suppose to pick our car up right at 9am, when we got there it wasn’t ready and had to wait an extra 20 minutes or so and the guy said he had to “disinfect” it. When we got inside the vehicle, there was an old face mask and some trash left from the previous person that had rented it.

I paid for a car rental in advance through Priceline. Got to the Thrifty office and they had no vehicle for me and did not offer to help in any way or even apologize. No one contacted me to let me know about this, despite having all of my contact information, so I wasted $20 on a Lyft there and another $30 to get to the airport. So instead of spending the last day of my vacation driving out to Key Largo, I got to sit at the airport for 11 hours, trying to get a refund from Priceline, because Thrifty refuses to take responsibility. Shady company with terrible customer service.

We have tried calling them, no one picked up. When they finally picked up the phone they stated we are over an hour late and they will not accommodate us. Stated that they have cars for higher price and if we want they can provide us if not than we can wait. Waited the whole day and they stated they had nothing. Told us to have a nice day. Now after wasting 4-5 hours and then finding out the business closes at 2pm. we have to reserve a last minute reservation at Miami Airport and pay uber to take us there to pick up a car. Not only did we lose financially with this issue, we lost hours of time and our entire day was ruined. thrifty did nothing to accommodate or remedy the situation other than waste hours of our time. There was no compromise or willingness to work with us! I hope you rectified this issue to help make our trip enjoyable ( whatever left of it).

WORST CAR RENTAL SPOT EVER! Whatever you do, do NOT rent your car from here. I booked with this company on February 28th for my trip on May 28th. They called me 4 days before my trip to tell me they do not have a rental car for me. A representative named Una said “there was nothing she can do for me and there’s 15 people ahead of me on the waitlist”. What does that even mean? How can there be a waitlist if a service is booked and paid for online. She was so nasty on the phone and wouldn’t do anything to accommodate for me. I asked to speak to a manager and she said there was no manager there and doesn’t even know when they will show up. This has been the worst service I have ever seen. Whatever you do, NEVER rent a car from here.

Do not use! They will cancel your reservation less then 24 hours before your pick up time. Sad when you booked it ahead of time to save money and peace of mind only for them to cancel you so they can rent your car for hundreds more to someone else. Do not trust your vacation on this business. They are shady and corrupt.

Absolutely the worst car rental experience ever. DO NOT rent with them, you will just waste your time and never get a car.We reserved a car 2 months in advance, directly through the Thrifty website. We arrived on time to pick up our car, and after waiting outside for 20 minutes, we were finally told they didn’t have a car and MIGHT have one in FIVE days. They didn’t even APOLOGIZE they acted like I was inconveniencing them for expecting a car.They refused to help. At all. Zero help. And instead gave us a customer service number. After 40 minutes on hold we spoke to someone who informed us there’s nothing they could do.We called back, waited on hold again and finally spoke to someone who “cancelled” our reservation and booked a new reservation (a completely new reservation for the FULL PRICE of a new reservation) at the Miami airport. They refused to honor the price I had booked months in advance, and refused to acknowledge the fact that we had to pay for an Uber to get to this location, and now had to pay for another Uber to take us to the airport. AND wasted HOURS of our trip.2 weeks later I still have BOTH charges for the original car we booked (that never existed) and the car we finally got from the airport.This company is a complete scam, they do not care about the customer experience in any way and keep your money for cars they don’t even rent.Don’t even bother calling their customer service because all they do is list off the things they CANT do and aren’t even interested in helping you.I would like someone from Thrifty to make this right, not only an apology and recognition for an absolutely miserable experience but to actually DO SOMETHING to make this right. REFUNDING me for my original charge for the car that never existed would be a great START.

Made a reservation for a car they did not have. Saw it happen for the guy in front of me as well. Completely throws a wrench in your plans. Had to Uber all the way to the airport and book a new reservation for more money all on my own dime of course.Do not book here unless you wanna take a gamble on your itinerary.They claimed they called to notify, but I received no call, no voicemail, no email. Was charged in full by Expedia so had to call Expedia just to get a refund. All in all a disaster where I ended up spending more and an hour behind on my itinerary all because they couldn’t notify me promptly of what was going on.

I pre paid for a non refundable 1 way rental to be dropped off at the airport. I was staying at the hyatt in the same building as the alamo car rental office. The morning I was supposed to pick up my car and take it to the airport, I went downstairs and they told me they disnt have any cars and supposedly didnt have my contact info to inform me of this ahead of time. Funny that I had received a confirmation email when I made the reservation. Its not really fair that on my end, this was a prepaid non-refundable reservation and If I hadnt shown up i was still gonna be on the hook but they dont have to hold up their end of the deal. Now Im stuck riding the bus to another rental place for a last minute rental at twice the cost.

One of the worst car rental places I have ever been in. I will never rent with this company again. I had a 1.00 p/u time and had to wait till 3.00pm to get the car. They didnt have my car available and had to wait for someone to return the car and they had to clean it. The lady at the front desk was very rude and unprofessional .

Never had such an experience in a rental agency.We booked a car in Miami Beach and subsequent hotels in Key West. Day was destroyed as we walked to the office on 16th street and were told that even though our reservation went through, there were no cars available. Jose and Julie working there were rude unprofessional and not helpful. I pleaded with them to call the airport office of the same thrifty/dollar rent a car to see if there are cara available and they said they cannot do it.

Great Location !!!Rent last week went amazing, they have great cars available. I was offer an upgrade to a nicer car but was traveling with family so had to keep the minivan. This was probably the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had. Not sure if it was thrifty in general or this store, but the office was FULL of people who had booked and paid for their car rental, but no cars were available and no one seemed to be doing anything about it. Families had their holidays ruined. We got a car 2.5 hours after it was booked and with an empty tank of petrol, despite having paid for a full one. I strongly advise against ever using this location

These guys are top notch! Another company left me in a bad spot and I called LOUIS at Thrifty Car Rental and he took great care of me. Car was ready to go, staff was helpful and laid back and took the time to make my experience enjoyable. Great experience and would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting exotic car rental experience.

Terrible service, its a mess - avoid this place!!!Its a tiny room with two cranky ladies, constantly complaining how busy they are while constantly distracted by chatting.There was a huge line of customers fighting for breath in the tiny office while everyone is arguing with the ladies about not getting what they booked. Every single booking had a problem, some didnt receive the booked car at all.It took us over an hour waiting in line just to hear that were late and no car is available. No compassion, understanding or even willingness to hear that weve been there in line for so long. Despite having a prepaid booking we didnt get a car.Its the last thing you want to experience after a long trip. Not to mention the extra costs for taxis, roaming calls to the booking company and last minute booking with other company.Dont ruin your holiday with this unreliable company and their reckless staff.

*Excellent customer service.*Great Location.I reserved the car online and when I arrived the car was already ready and in excellent condition.We were welcomed with a bottle of water.Its true, that the line in front of you can take a little longer when customers are only received at one of the two counters, but the longest I waited was maybe 10-15 minutes. The employees were friendly and assisted me with everything.the service and leaving WITHOUT a headache is worth the extra $$. Keep up the good work.Thank you.

Horrendous customer service and indifference from the two lazy female staff there. They spoke Spanish about the lack of car availability not knowing we understood them. Truly shocking attitude and cannot believe Thrifty allow them to work there. Everything is a NO as its against company policy- talk about useless. What a terrible place. It was like playing the lottery if you got the car you booked or not..we got there at nine am only to be told our reservation was not before noon. Waited the three hours, got back and was told they didn’t have a minivan for us. And the way they told it to us was surreal, like that was out problem not their..customers was either told they were to late for their bookings or that they had to put their name on a long wait list.The street was full of people calling around trying to figure out what to do.They should’ve contacted us beforehand and let us know, or at least told us when we came there in the morning, then we could have started with the alternative plan then already. We spent the entire day on this!!

A surreal disaster of an experience. Our prepaid car wasn’t available and we were told that we were put up on a waiting list, since no other customers had gotten their car. The street outside was full of people, confused by the terrible service. The fiasco was almost existential, how can a business exist that instead of service provides lies that their immeasurable failure was due to customers not returning the cars? A deal seems of no importance to Thrifty and the staff must have spent their whole life never understanding the word “service”.I have no clue why anyone ever would use Thrifty.

Quick and easy pick up at the airport. My only problem was that my itinerary said to drop off at Port of Miami with shuttle included to the port, however the actual drop off is in South Beach and you have to find your own ride to the cruise ships. Only cost $15 but I would have like to have known that beforehand.

Avoid at all costs!! Thriftys / Dollar Rent A Car shared location. Reserved car 3 months in advance. After long and delayed flight with kids, and $30 taxi ride, arrived 1 hour past pick up time. Walked into small office with only 2 attendants. During this time watched some shady practices of cars being turned over from one customer to the next within minutes after a quick handheld vacuum. After taking 30 minutes to serve 2 people ahead of us, the lady told us very rudely “We dont have a car because you are late”. First, we had reserved a car. Second, it doesnt mention anywhere that your car will be given away if you are late. There was zero compassion or offer to help in anyway. Seems like this was a common thing here. I asked if we could wait for another car to be returned, she told us we could be added to their waitlist with 60 OTHER PEOPLE! Had no choice but to load the family into a taxi and pay another $30 taxi ride to the airport and pay the premium price on a last minute rental. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT RENT HERE!!!

Inacceptable service, to be precise, there was not even a service. We booked our car on their web site in advance not to pay an exaggerated price for holiday seasons. As our flight was rescheduled and we knew we are arriving later than expected, we called thrifty’s support and arranged our reservation to later time. When we came to this office at 3pm, Sun, it was closed already(btw the address specified in the confirmation mail was wrong: 1520 Collins). So, we came on the next day, then, the staff said “the reservation is not valid anymore. It’s for yesterday. We keep the car only for 2 hours from the reserved time.” We explained that we called in advance and changed the reservation time. But they responded “ it’s not reflected on our system. And it’s between the staff you talked on the phone and you, not with us. We have lots of customers waiting for today’s reservation.” in a bothersome way. They don’t respect the reservation and don’t care each customer. There was another customer who was furious about their service, by the way. We decided to stick to enterprise in the future.

Worst experience for car rental. We had to call the police to the place. They apparently had no cars at their location. They also refused to give out any written paper as a proof, that they dont have any cars. We had 2 reservations which were done 3 months in advance and they wouldnt give out any car at all. Both of the ladies were unfriendly and only offering to place us on a waiting list. They didnt try to relocate us to an other rental station. Booking a car at that time online was 500USD/day instead of what I had paid in advance an tarif of about 45USD/day. I cant confirm the truth of this, but there is high probability that all the rental locations have decided to form a mafia to rent their cars at a horrendous price. Dont even try to come with a confirmation of a reservation from a third party.EDIT: Answer to Thrifty :If you had no cars left on any thrifty shop in an 8 mile radius, why did you have them listed online as available? And we are not speaking of 5 customers not getting a car. The list the lady at the front showed us had a least already 30 customers on our first arrival at Thrifty on the second day it were already 50. And to refuse to give out a proof, that we didnt get a car on the given day, even tho we had contract is far from professional.EDIT2: After looking through some responses it is fair to say, that they basically just read one thing an answer on that thing that they are sorry and thats it. The manager Louis needs to be fired!!!!!! I emailed the corporate office and told him he is a bad representation of Thrifty. We rented a car for a week came to return it and he charged us over 160 for a little sand on the matt.!!! We took pictures of everything to show there is barely any sand. Not only that he refused to give his name and a copy of our bill. I later saw on my card he charged us double. I am disturbing the charge and making sure he is fired. Not only that, he is the manager!!! Absolute disgrace to thrifty!!!!!

Manager absolutly rude, without any consideration for its clientele; When we arrived, there was no car available (even though we made the booking 6 months ago) and they first propose us to wait until someone would return (if any) a car. Worst, they refuse to rent us a car as the main driver (and not the additional one) had different names (maiden name) on its driving license and on its credit card (marial name). They refused to find any suitable solution even though the driver has a passeport with both names. Obiouvsly we have rented cars several time per year thourgh the US (including Florida several times) over the last 20 years without such problems.They argued that the Police in Florida would fine Thrifty if they would have rented us a car: this is totally false, unless they consider that the police is not smart enough to look at the passeport (which they did during one of our last stay in Miami).The manager was also incredibly rude to the previous clients asking them to leave its store using the F* several times....

One star is too much! In august I booked and paid for a car during the christmas holidays. When I went to the office to pick up the car on 26th dicember at fixed time, the car there wasnt! The employee only checked my phone number and would call me 2 days later when there was a car available. Very shameful!! I risked ruining my vacation completely and throwing money away. BAD!!! Avoid this company!

Relatively quick pick up, got a mustang convertible instead of a camaro convertible that we had ordered (which wasnt really an issue). Hired a car from here in January 2015. We were first in when it opened and it was pretty quick to get the car. It is a small office and only one person seemed to be processing the rentals so queues might build up a bit later in the morning. Car itself was fine.

Got there when they opened. Talked to the woman to see if we could pick up our car early, we scheduled a 10:30 it was 9:00. She told us no. She helped other customers while we called the 1-800 number to change our pick up time to 9:30. They changed it successfully and when 9:30 came rolling around we told her we changed the time to 9:30 and she still wouldn’t let us pick it up. She continued helping others walking in. For some reason we sat another 45 minutes until we decided to leave. As we were walking out the door she then said, “let me try to help you”. Not professional, not a comfortable environment. They try to get $50 extra for the toll pass where we found out at another location it only averages $0.50-$1.00 per toll. Ended up spending less money at enterprise down the road and had a wonderful experience.

Terrible terrible service. They told me they had no cars on the day I walked in. I made a reservation almost a month before. They tried to blame it on a third party. Totally destroyed my vacation. On a sunday, needed to fly from Tampa the next day. No other way to get there except with a rental. Cost me of time and money! WORST SERVICE EVER! Ive been using South Miami Beach Thrifty rental car service for years.I live on 15 and Jefferson avenue,so its so convenient for me to rent a car to do a weekend excursion, without dealing with the airport!Staff is friendly and lenient if you bring the car in 5 or 10 minutes after your rental.No drama, very easy to get to. Avoid at all costs. Take a taxi to a lot elsewhere on Miami Beach. This location is understaffed and over-booked. They didn’t have the car I reserved, or the car anyone else in the waiting room reserved. The one runner dedicated to retrieving cars from the parking garage was run completely ragged trying to keep up with the workload. I waited over 90 minutes between arriving at the door and getting into my rental. I waited over 40 minutes in order to return the vehicle.

I was pleased with the car rental. There was a line though, and the teller barely acknowledged that we were standing there. But, the car was gassed and ready to go. Smaller car than wed hoped but, serviceable.

This is the worst customer service ever. They share space with an scooters rental and they are even worst. They do not respect people at all. If you can go to any other location please do so. DO NOT ruin your vacation with these kind of people. They need to understand this is not a free car rental service, this is something we pay for and deserve respect. By te way there are better options with better customer service.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Awful experience. We had 1 day in Miami before our flight back to the UK and it was completely ruined by the rude woman (she refused to tell me her name - great customer service!) working for Thrifty. She tried to charge us $175 for a tiny bit of sand on the floor mats. My husband had to drive around for an hour to find a gas station with a vacuum cleaner. My children aged 4 and 6 had to sit on the side walk in the scorching hot sun for over an hour with all our luggage while we waited for my husband to return. I then watched the Thrifty employee vacuum someone else’s car. I asked if they were being charged for her vacuuming their car, no they weren’t - I was understandably livid. Disgraceful to target customers with young children right before a long-haul flight. We travel at least 5 times a year and will NEVER use Thrifty again.Update - I emailed Justin as requested in Thrifty’s response to my review. Unsurprisingly, a month on, my email has been completely ignored. Truly dreadful company!

Dont use if you are in a hurry... Took me 1/2 hour to be able to get my reserved car and another 1/2 hour to return it. Very slow service and they make it very difficult to extend days. I do not recommend this Thrifty location and the overall Thrifty customer service.

Very shady. Dont ever rent from these people. Picked up car for 1 day rental, 3/4 tank of gas. Returned with full tank parked on incline and was charged $50 for tank not being full!! They decided $20 cash would take care of it! I agreed to pay for plate pass to cover tolls ( i only had about$13 in tolls that day) They just charged my credit card $130 for tolls. Ive been travelling a long time throughout North America and Europe and Ive never encountered so much dishonesty and fradulent behavior.

Do NOT rely on this place for a rental car!!!!!We made a reservation to rent a car as we were traveling to Orlando following our stay in Miami Beach. When we showed up we were told that they had no cars available, and offered us no solutions and no apologies. In short, we were screwed!So if you book with them -- good luck getting a car, and I hope you have back up plans!

Hi I hope this helps someone not make the same mistake my family and I did.My family and I were excited to come to Miami and have a good vacation and as soon as we walked into Thrifty we were greeted by angry and easily perturbed women. Without so much as a glance our way they harshly asked if we needed help. We handed our reservation information to one of the women and she said that we were supposed to come at 9 am and our car is gone. She said that they called us, but the phone number they had was Expedia’s the travel agency. They were very disorganized and did not seem to know what was going on.Nowhere said that we have to pick up the car by 9 am and she gave our car away. She kept repeating the fact that we should call Expedia: “You have to contact Expedia...Expedia”.I was hoping our trip to Miami could have a solid and easy start, but this obviously simple task was made overly complicated. I wish we could have had a better experience.I would definitely not recommend this agency unless you want to face disappointment.

Everything went fine with the rental and vehicle availability, however two weeks after the rental and I am still receiving charges on my credit card for Thrifty Tolls They charge you $15.00 on top of every toll and bill them too you individually.

No after hours drop off. If you arrive after 5pm you are screwed. Not our fault was from crappy service at the Orlando airport making us late.Called the call centre and they just transferred us around to all different departments before ending up at the emergency services who told us to drop off at international airport and hung up on us!Worst service I have ever experienced with a rental car business!!!!

I think they should tell before about the plate for the talls. It would be 10 us per day (and it has to be for the whole period that you rent the car) or you pay per tall plus a fine because you pass the tall without paying...

*0 star !! DO NOT USE THIS PLACE. MAKING A RESERVATION AND PAYING A DEPOSIT DOES NOT MEAN THEY WILL HAVE A CAR FOR YOU. We turned up within the allocated time frame and the girl had given our car away. The customer in front of us warned us that the girl serving him (who claimed to be the manager) tried to charge him double even though he had a reservation at a guaranteed price! Hard to understand the rude girl behind the counter and would not do anything to resolve the problem suggest any alternatives. We got a car with one phone call to ALAMO! Similar price and brand new! Highly recommend ALAMO. If you use this Thrifty you do so at your own peril!

Friendly staff but huge drawback there is no key drop and car drop so if you miss business hours your stuck paying huge prices for overnight parking. Also charged me $10 because I didnt return it by original planned returned time even though I was less then the 24 hour daily rental period.

Worst rental location ever. Poor Juan Carlos was ill prepared poorly trained and not the brightest bulb in the pack.I witnessed two people who had reservations and he could not hook them up with reservations.Thirfty customer service was not much better. As a Blue Chip member I expect better service.Very frustrating and disappointing.Dont go to this place.
