I was very hesitant to write this review as Ive come into the school on other occasions and always had a wonderful experience. The teachers are always a delight, and the students very professional. The Haitian girls that were working at the back are an embarrassment to the school. Completely unprofessional, rude and entitled. I listened as they bad mouthed the school and had the teachers run around in circles like they were underpaid assistants. Every other word from their lips was a curse word, while 2 sat in the back of the classroom and did absolutely nothing and Claire worked on a client. I felt terrible for the client in her chair as she sat quietly not knowing how to respond. I am very disappointed that this behavior is allowed. I hope upon my return that these girls learn to be more professional, otherwise, I will take my business elsewhere.
Isabella did a great job with my hair :) I’m really happy with the results!
Made an appointment for my elderly mother to have her hair cut at 1pm today for a 5:30pm appointment. Arrived at 5:15 and was told to please wait outside due to covid 19 protocol. Then after waiting outside for 35 minutes the woman said there was no appointment made for my mother. I know for sure it was to be for today. Actually I had to call twice because the phone number is answered by another area and I had to be given another number to call. I always recite the time and day when making an appointment. My 85 year old mother was so upset and not to mention why we were unable to have her hair cut. Very unprofessional. If considering going here, I suggest you think about going somewhere else where they have their act together.
Bring friend over. She want to dye her hair to coffee color. The student took a black dye. My friend said she doesn’t want black yet the student still make it black. Told her it won’t turn black and afterwards it was absolutely black. She complained and they just claim “they are just students”. By using the term “student” as an excuse they don’t care about their sloppy job and not taking any responsibility for it. Anybody with common sense will at least apologize, but the staffs here are so horrible they can’t even give a proper apology. The service here is absolutely horrible.
Ali at the corporate office was fantastic at assisting me with booking my state board exam. After a long 8 months of school it was refreshing to come in a week after graduating and having a flawless transition into continuing my career goal of becoming a registered Massachusetts barber.
It is a good and cheap place to have a haircut if you dont care too much for your hairs. Whatever cut you tell them you will get only what they want. I dont blame them as they are here to learn. And most important thing is be ready to spend at least 2 hrs here. Once I almost slept on chair due to sound and vibration of a trimmer. So please keep that in mind.
Came in for a haircut, shampoo, and style at the New England Hair Academy. There are two separate studios, a salon on one side and a barbershop on the other. I visited the barbershop. This was my first time here, and I was very satisfied with my haircut. My haircut cost $8 (August 2017).This is a school, so you will sign in acknowledging that this is a school, students are learning, so dont be frustrated if things dont turn out right. That said, keep in mind these students arent in the school to learn how to make clients upset. They want to give you a great haircut, and for me they delivered!Instructors are present and give a guiding hand to students. I found what works for me was to talk to the student candidly about what he/she is thinking, and then let them execute. My student wasnt ashamed of calling over the instructor for some tips. I have hyper thin hair, so any unevenness is easily noticed, making me a hard haircut. I know this, and I know to be patient as they learn. The only potential drawback was my haircut probably took 10-15 minutes longer then usual, but for the cost, the chance to help a student with a live subject, and the excellent haircut I did receive far outweighs the extra time.I highly recommend coming here for a haircut, and plan to return.
Outdated school & very outdated instructors. This is not a good school for the cosmetology or nail program. Placed seemed ok during tour, I was fooled. School kits are overpriced for what is received and very cheap quality items. The instructors are either very nice, loopy or lacking in appropriate skill sets to properly teach others. I would not recommend this school for its programs to anyone. Try elsewhere! Yes this place is a bit less than other places, but here you get less than you pay for. Seriously
Please do your research prior to enrolling in this school as a student. If you can, ask a few students you find around campus a few questions. Unfortunately, you will receive a ton of homework as a student. A lot of students sleep in class due to exhaustion from needing to juggle home life and homework. Dont worry you wont be sent home. Its up to you wether you are productive in class or not.1. 3-4 tests a week and homework almost every night! So for you full time moms and job holders it may be a bit much.1.5 You might be lucky and get 1-2 tests that week but just know the chapter you have to read will be 100 pages. Yes, Homework every weekend!2. Theory class is way too long. Not enough hands on practice for 2:30 students. The teacher is a bit long winded. Its not the worst school and far from the best. It all depends on what you want to get out of the school, your expectations. I made the mistake of not doing my research as thoroughly as I should have. So, I ended up paying less for a cosmetology school but not getting my monies worth. This place is outdated and a bit behind the times.
Terrible, Terrible school! This place will pretend to be good people to get you through the door. First of all the student kits are so bad. A bunch of cheaply made junk that will break on you before you even finish the program. You only receive 2 maniquins in your kit, 1 male, 1 female. You will end up shaving all the hair off the male so now you only have 1 left. Its impossible to get requirements done with one mannequin! Combs, SNAPPED in half! Mannequin stand, BROKEN! Coloring brush, SNAPPED! Dollar store make up kits, literally! Dollar store manicuring kits! Shampoo cape, RIPPED so easily around the collar area! Thermal comb is not a thermal comb at all, it MELTED! How am I supposed to protect a clients head with a comb that melts? Dont get me started on some of the faculty. A bunch of fake and phony that care more about their pay check rather than being a good teacher. Not everyone is bad but the good ones are few. Ruuuuuuunnnnnnn from this place!!!
I would not give them even a star. They where the most difficult school Ive worked with. As far as student wise. So I went there a year ago to work with them. I got a funny vibe the school is out dated and kinda ran down. There also very funny about financial aid there as well to. Like they will take your grants and leave you to find away to get the other 8k. The refuse fedral loans and the are extremely difficult in that fashion. So a year later I got another Grant and decided to give them another try. So I went threw half the application process 8n the confusion of the process the asked me to pay the application fee. So I did. Even with the grants I was short. So trying to work it out it was to difficult. So after all fails I go and ask for the application fee back. The denied me my application fee back. Although I explained my situation. If I place is that hard up for cash there is something wrong. How petty can I school be.If your a student beware of there tactics they are shady.
I had my hair color done yesterday and my experience was bad. I did not touch my hair there but when I came back home and checked it was all sticky, they did not wash the conditioner properly out of my hair.I got my hair coloured global but couple of my grey hairs were left and were not colored. I can agree that on black hair colors doesnt show properly but atleast white hairs should be colored.I would not recommend it for hair color and styling.
GREAT prices, friendly barbers. better than quincy to attend (so I’ve heard), so if you’re passionate about barbering go for it, just make sure you know what you’re getting into.
My daughter got her haircut here recently. The students were very professional and our stylist did an amazing job.
I been coming here since 2004 the atmosphere is awesome there different hair cut everytime 8 dollars not bad ..love it
Got my bangs trim here a couple of times and it was the best experience actually.
I wish had option to give negative stars. Really worst experience with trainee as well as their supervisor. They spent 2 hrs on haircut. Supervisor there was very rude, most unfriendly person I have ever seen. I made mistake going there just to save 5 bucks. Really not worth at all.
School offers haircuts color waxing barber services supervisor watches over students while they cut hair its a school dont expect perfection and you will be satisfied
Go elsewhere! This school is so disorganized 😕. Waste of time n money 💰
WORST PLACE EVER
GREAT SCHOOL(DISABLED VETERANS PLEASE READ) I was attending. out of 1000, hours you need to get a certificate everything u need learn is in the first two months with Miss D after that u head over to the salon I guess its a little negative there because u are just there to hone what you learned at the freshman side. I didnt finish, even get close to 500 hours but it was not schools fault. It was all me 8 years I have been suffering( as it says on paper severe post traumatic stress disorder with mild traumatic brain injury ) other injury as well but the invisible ones get ya hard. I never failed at anything in my life but going to this school it opened my eyes because I was in denial I have been cutting hair for 21 years one night had a customer that just wanted his head shaved with 3 1/ 2 but his hair was really long like a werewolf so the instructor on the floor told me to practice share over come OK no problem I live to do that and miss d when I was a freshman and watching what the girl next to me was doin I picks it up fast so to make a long story short the way the particular instructor was treating me and as an instructor my self I the military I knew what she was pulling which was bullying, exploiting, and embarrassing me to let everyone know she was the Alpha. So I kind of let her know how I felt kindly ( biting ) my tongue the way I felt after the incident was the feeling of impending doom the way I would feel after a combat situation in Iraq and it didnt end there she gave me another shot about cleaning up to early (it was 5 minutes before the classroom) so I put everything back up and she said u have to start cleaning up. So the next week to be a gentleman I apologized because I thought it was the right thing to do where it should have been the other way around I have never been treated like that in my life not even by detainees during my time over seas when I apologized I made it come from my heart because over all shes the instructor and I the student and she said it was about time u came to your senses . I thank her because at point I realized for the first time that my cognitive behavior if I have stayed there It would have got the best of me I am now participating in a therapy group at the VA once a week till April. Im sitting here wondering if what I did and I did what I was taught while I was an inpatient at the VA for two months is if there is bAd situation remove myself myself from it and thats what I did now I owe the GOVERNMENT 11000 dollars I dont have . I have scars all over me but Ill take the physical problems over the wounds that cant be seen the invisible wounds continue to get worse as the visible scars heal. I DO NOT BLAME THE SCHOOL I blame myself by thinking and believing that I could be the person I once was. Sometimes I aM and sometimes Im not it just felt not the whole time but if I didnt attend I would have never taken the steps I am know at the VA.....I recommend other veterans with PTSD and TBI to contact your social worker and sees if it is the right thing for you to do where ever your at in ur never ending war and as for the school I believe that they should designate someone to deal with the wounded warrior project if theres a disabled veteran like myself because Im sure there will be more and maybe they wont have a problem but they need to understand the school and the veteran that wants to attend New England Hair academy. Just because I had a problem not just with an instructor and that was only one incident but it was the way I felt the whole time. Thats my cross to bare. Even though this vet had issues I hope it doesnt deter anyone who reads this. If your passion is to be a barber theres is no better place for your passion in this business than the New England Hair academy but if u r a vet make sure u the school and the VA r. On the same page or you will end up paying for being disabled like I am I now .All I want to do is help people and make people happy and I thought this was it .
Do your research people
