I’ve been going to Alan Koa for years and they’ve always done an amazing job. In an effort to get my hair colored before graduation, I took the only appointment available with a girl I had never gone to before. The color was great but she didn’t go fully down to my roots. I didn’t notice in the studio because she parted my hair in an odd way (likely purposefully so I didn’t see the dark roots still showing through). When I got home I was upset that I had paid as much as I did for my hair to look a month grown out. I called the studio and requested to come in and get it fixed, a request of which they were very difficult about. Upon finally agreeing that I could come in, they informed me that fixing the mistake their stylist had made would cost me another $100+. I am very disappointed in their customer service. Will not be returning.

I went there for balayage hair style. The hair came out brassy in the front so I went back in to fix it. This time the stylist put more bleach in the front hair and completely burned off my front hair. Now I have to wait for it to regrow forever. The stylists have zero skills and dont know what theyre doing.Second time I was only going to get a blowout I was 15 mins late. I was informed that the stylist could not fit me in and they charged me 50% for it. I have never had a salon ever charge me for being late like that. Things happen and that is a sure way to lose customers.Update: owner called me and apologized for being late and I was not charged a late fee.

Nice touch offering a refreshing drink while you wait for service. Gifted my girlfriend their pedicure for her birthday a couple years ago and she loved it.

I have curly hair and always have a hard time finding a stylist who works well with my hair and how I style it. I loved working with Danielle. She really listened to and understood what I was hoping for in my haircut. I highly recommend working with Danielle.

My wife has been going to Alan Koa for years, when I moved to Madison I decided to go as well.My hair is blonde and fine which means you can see steps and imperfections easily. Im also pretty particular about my hair. (I used to be a stylist myself so I understand what goes into a quality mens cut.) I have gone to many of the stylists at Alan Koa and theyre all great. My personal favorite is Robyn. She gives me a quality cut/shampoo every time. Ill give her an idea of how Id like my hair to look and she always exceeds it. I leave happy after every haircut which can be hard to find in a salon. I also enjoy the flavored water during my cut. I need to stop bragging Alan Koa up, theyre going to get too busy! :)

I love Danielle K! She is simply the best. I never have to tell her anything and my hair is perfect every time. She is so sweet, too- youll never want your visit with her to end. Alan Koa is clean and friendly and very professional. They hold themselves to the highest standards. Highly recommend.

Emily has been doing my hair for over a year now and i have loved it every time. At this point, i just tell her to do thing because i know i will love it. It was wonderful to get a haircut from Fazia. I wanted to cut my hair short for the summer and wanted really easy maintainence for my hair. I trusted her and she did a great job. I plan to return to this place in future.

This is my first time posting a review EVER and my first experience at Alan Koa. I came in with pretty challenging hair— there was a lot of banding and a lot of corrective work to be done. Karen did an AMAZING job. She really listened to what look I was going for and then explained how she was going to adjust it to get the best outcome for my hair. I am leaving for CA for my dream internship and I have a huge boost of confidence with my new hair. Hope somebody passes this along to Karen she really did a wonderful job!!

I have been going to Anne Mueller for over 10 years, back when it was Cameo. She is the absolute best - hair color, cut, style - I think she knows my hair better than I do! The front desk is always friendly and helpful and they are as accommodating as possible when schedules change. The owner is extremely nice, helpful and visible, which shows how much she cares about her clients and stylists. I would recommend this salon, especially Anne, to anyone who gets their hair cut or colored, or just wants a style. We had a fantastic experience in Oct 2016 when my bridal party and I got hair and makeup done. Fabulous job on all the ladies and just a really fun experience. One last shout out - to Susie, who does an excellent job on my nails and is so great to share stories with.

Robyn was great, very friendly and helpful with helping make suggestions with my hair! After a week I felt I needed the color changed a little bit around my face. Robyn was very accommodating and it was no problem at all! Very happy with my service at Alan Koa :D

I have been coming here for years to get my hair done and yesterday I finally decided to come in for a massage because I am experiencing a lot of back pain and stress. The only massage therapist there was Todd and he did not even give me a massage but instead used his fingers to push pressure points on my back and neck for the entire 45 minutes. Not only am I not relieved of my pain, but I also wasted $55 on this massage. I would not recommend to anyone that they go there for a massage. Spend your money somewhere else.

I was given cucumber water before my pedicure which was great. I sat in the quiet room for just a little while then had a delightfully relaxing pedicure and came out with perfectly polished nails. I cant wait to go back.

I was greeted with tea, Emily gave me a bangin haircut, and I was comfortable the entire time. The staff is super knowledgeable and the location was easy to find. Its conveniently located next to a parking garage so its real easy to drop in for a cut. Ill be back as long as my hair keeps growing.

Toriah is amazing! She listens to what Im looking to get from my hair cut or color, and then nails it every time. Plus shes super fun and hearing about her dog is the best.

Great location with nice views of State Street! Fazia did a great job with my hair. She really listens and is very diligent in her work, resulting in a hair cut that is completely perfect and grows out really well. She really got a sense for the aesthetic and low-maintenance style that I wanted. I am so happy!2019 Update: A bit bummed because they now require a credit card to hold an appointment. I emailed to see if they could make an exception (Im a long-time customer who has never cancelled an appointment) because I am not comfortable with that and I never heard back. They just cancelled my appointment. Now I need to look for a new salon. :( Fazia, I will miss you!

I had a haircut recently with Robyn- she took such great care of me! First, the front desk staff are very welcoming and friendly, ready to offer you a beverage. Then, I had a very thorough consultation before my haircut with my stylist Robyn (I have had haircuts where communication wasnt that strong and it ended in a mullet, so Ive learned from my mistakes and learned how to get my point across while also allowing some creative freedom for my stylist). She took me to the bowl for the greatest shampoo and relaxing scalp massage ever. The haircut was phenomenal and everything I asked for and more. Robyn was friendly and personable, helpful and down to earth. She took all the stress away that I usually get around haircut time. The other stylists were friendly and engaging as well, complimenting Robyns work as they passed by.Overall this place is just wonderful. Beautiful view, calming ambiance, very tasteful decor, and extremely talented service providers who do just about anything to make sure their clients leave feeling confident, beautiful, and appreciated. If I could give them gold stars, I would.

I started coming to Alan Koa after I had a really awful coloring experience at another salon (now closed) about 3 years ago. I was in dire straights and desperately seeking out a new forever stylist. My friend suggested I go to Alan Koa and see Danielle. I have been going to Danielle ever since and have never been disappointed! She does amazing work with color, and my cuts are always exactly what I want. I am not afraid to make a drastic change, or just keep things simple with Danielle because I know she will always do a fantastic job. I highly recommend this salon -- everyone has been so friendly whenever Ive gone!

This was my second massage with Shana, and she is just phenomenal!

Its located on the 4th floor of The Comedy Club. For some reason, Google doesnt specify that nor is the sign large enough to notice even from the sidewalk. The salon is pretty fancy, has a nice view and even a balcony you can sit in.I got my haircut from Fazia who was super friendly & social, not to mention talented. I have very dense, thick hair that most barbers have said is kind of hard to work with. Fazia though handled it very well, especially for being my first time getting a haircut with her. She even said she likes working with guys hair so if youre a dude looking for a nice haircut, I highly recommend her. I got a fade on the sides & back and also got my hair shortened. She did a great job overall, and I ended up scheduling my next haircut second appointment with her.Price is fair for the quality of service ($35 for a haircut, and she also gave a nice shampoo-massage). Overall Id recommend this place & Fazia at least once if youre having trouble finding the right haircut place.

Loved it. So glad that I had a spur of the moment wild hair (hehe) cut idea on a quick weekend home in Madison (I live near Boston), and added in a spa manicure at Alan Koa. I got off the plane, had lunch and bopped over here to meet Pada and Tatiana and I am stoked to have a place that feels right. They are young and so friendly, yet super talented and efficient. The small scalp massage from Pada, and the awesome hand massage from Tatiana, and my travel stress and is gone! My hair looks amazing and even my ugly hands are pretty. This is awesome. Highly recommend. (Note: look for the comedy club on State and walk up 4 flights to find this penthouse spa. Yesss, there’s an elevator, too;)

Dont go here.An hour after my scheduled appointment time, I was still waiting. The girl at the front desk kept telling me just five more minutes! Yeah, right. They didnt offer a different hairdresser, apology, or anything. I had to just leave because the staff was too busy bullshitting to cut any hair. Guess they dont like money.
