Excellent gym located conveniently downtown. Their State of the art equipment means that you know what youre using is reliable. The staff are extremely friendly and always willing to help out with any problems or questions you have. The trainers there are also spectacular; they really know their stuff and are dedicated to helping you meet your fitness goals. The downtown location is deceptively large with three floors and plenty of equipment to go around. Ive been going here for over a year and its by far my favorite gym Ive been to. The locker rooms are always clean and dont stink. They have showers there and even a sauna. Overall top-notch place to get some lifts in.
Love this gym: great selection of free weights and machines, plenty of squat racks and mats. It gets busy sometimes but you never have to wait too much. The location is great and so are the hours, very convenient. Everything is clean, broken stuff gets fixed quickly and the staff are friendly and helpful. They even have a good selection of workout music (not just blaring rap 24/7). Best gym Ive ever been to, honestly.
I love Cap Fit! Huge facility with a variety of workout options, weights, and classes. Their personal trainers are top notch, too. Being located right off of the Square is great too for anyone that works downtown. Its easy to work out, shower, and head into work. Highly recommended.
Ive been a CapFit member for almost 6 years now. A few staff members remember my name every time I come in and that always feels nice. I love their group fitness and yoga classes and have always found their main gym equipment/space clean and reliable. I appreciate that they upgraded all their treadmills and the womens locker room a couple years ago. Its clear that they care about providing a reliable and comfortable environment for their customers. Ive also taken advantage of some of their other consultative offerings like nutrition workshops and found them very enlightening!
The front desk staff and class leaders are awesome and really helpful. Love the variety of classes. All of them that I’ve attended have been super fun. Everything is always clean. I love that the West Wash location has all-gender, single use restrooms. They also handled COVID really well and care about guest safety. Best gym that I’ve been to in the area.
Ive been working out here for a couple of years now. Since December 2019, I have lost 70 lbs and feel much healthier than I did before. A large part of that is due to the welcoming environment at Capital Fitness - I never felt self-conscious or that other members were judging me, even when I first started working out and struggled to do basic exercises. Capital Fitness was also quick to react to the pandemic. They closed for a little while last year but reopened with effective and convenient protocols. As far as Im aware, they never had an outbreak and I felt safer going to the gym than I did shopping for groceries. Thanks to their protocols - and the willingness of other members to follow them - I was able to keep working out safely for most of 2020.
Love having a large, 3 floors!!, gym within walking distance of my home.Staff and members are considerate of others during individual and group trainings. Clean spacious locker rooms and showers. What more could ask for?
I love the set up of the gym, however, since covid, the hours are not great and hard to make for anyone that works different hours. I also think that the cleaning could be upped a bit as there is loads of dust on machines. Everything else is great. The staff is friendly and wonderful equipment!
I recently switched gyms and really love the variety that CapFitness offers — I’ve taken rooftop yoga and spin cycle classes on top of personal training sessions. The staff at the front desk has been incredibly welcoming and motivating, too. My last gym never had enough space so having multiple floors here has been so nice, it never feels crowded.
I’ve been going to Capital Fitness for about a year now and couldn’t be happier with their services. Clean equipment and a safe environment has been a sticking point for me and the rules that Cap Fit has implemented have made me feel safe overall. Recommend this place to everyone for good reason!
Amazing facility! Clean, comfortable, and bigger than it looks from the outside. Three floors of machines/workout space allows you to spread out and do your thing. Thrilled I got a membership here!
CapFit has two well equipped gyms and an excellent staff. I have loved all the classes I have attended. They are also very quick to respond to any concerns and were willing to work with me to move some equipment to their smaller location during the height of the pandemic.
A great gym with basically all the equipment you could need for weightlifting: power racks, deadlift platforms, dumbbells, cables, machines, treadmills, and more. Staff are always friendly and professional. And as a woman, I’ve never felt unsafe here—gym-goers typically keep to themselves, which is what I prefer. :)
Good spot to workout. The Butler location has everything you would need and the Washington location is good for a quick option. Staff are all friendly and both locations are always clean.
Staff are very friendly and accommodating, gym is clean and equipment is well maintained. They’ve been really good about applying covid safety measures such as masks and disinfectant bottles. Yoga classes are great, especially the rooftop yoga classes 😁.
Joined Cap Fitness in July & so far it has been a great experience. Friendly staff. Very clean facility with plenty of cleaning spray & wipes available. Very good selection of high end weight training & cardio equipment. Was pleasantly surprised at how big and open the facility is - plenty of space. Welcoming & comfortable environment. Members are friendly & no meatheads so everyone at all fitness levels from beginners to experienced can feel very comfortable working out here. Been a member of a dozen fitness centers in multiple states over the years & Cap Fitness is too notch.
Five stars for the people who work there really. Always friendly and helpful. Great location and I can always find what I need for my workout :)
Definitely the best bang for your buck in terms of gym amenities, available resources (full access to spin bikes/aerobics areas when no classes are going on, a full floor of heavy weights, etc.), cleanliness, and service. I was always a bit intimidated by gyms but Capital staff are friendly and the workout environment is polite and focused.
Capital has what you need and they know exactly what price they can charge for it ($$$). A notable amount of equipment is jacked up cosmetically but thats not a big deal. Lighting is poor, the smell is distinct, and maintenance issues are frequent. Water fountains, faucets, showers, shower curtains, sauna, loud noises downstairs(?), etc. arent fixed quickly. Towels are not available for folks to shower. Honestly, if there was a planet fitness nearby Id consider going there and thats really saying something. Its a convenient gym that gets the job done and is no doubt a gold mine for the owner(s). I applaud them for making the market where supply meets demand. Employees are nice but no doubt underutilized.
Have been a member for years now, and always have a great experience - renovated locker room and showers, sauna and steam room. I’ve never utilized but the coffee and shake bar is a great feature!Never too busy (at least when I go) and there’s plenty of cardio and weight options
Capfit has made fitness so convenient and the customer service there is unmatched. There’s nothing that gives me more energy than a nice welcome as I step in and assistance with any questions or every fitness advice! There’s protein Shakes are absolutely amazing and there equipment is up to date and well maintained! I would recommend CapFit to any and all fitness enthusiast
My favorite place to be besides home. The staff is really kind and the gyms atmosphere is very mellow. Its easy to get lost in here for hours.
Great gym, friendly staff, nice environment. Ive been going for 3 years and havent had any issues. I only wish they would open at 5am on weekdays again as they did pre-pandemic
Ive been a member of Capital Fitness for the last two years and have nothing but great things to say. The facility is great, the people are kind, and its in a prime location. Although the pandemic made things challenging for everyone, I feel like Capital Fitness went out of its way to accommodate members whether it was by offering hundreds of classes online, providing extra santizing materials, or allowing an alterative pay structure. Capital Fitness truly goes the extra mile!
This is a copy of the email I received, from management, when I reached out to them to report a very disturbing experience I had with a patron and an employee of theirs.Other than refunding the latest payment to them, which was automatically withdrawn after my horrible experience there AND after initially requesting to cancel, this is the patronizing tone which their management found appropriate to address harassment of a member inside of their gym and no additional effort was made to address, or even attempt to make up for, my experience with this gym.Needless to say, I will not be returning, family will be cancelling memberships, and this laughable example of “customer service” may now serve as a warning to all potential future customers.*Edit: I forgot to mention that this email also came after I was hung up on by the desk staff when I called to request an email to contact regarding my experience and the cancellation of my membership, as the staff on-hand advised me that they could not do this.
Ive been a member of CapFit for a while now and love it! It has a great vibe and everyone is so kind and welcoming!
The gym is very clean and easy to get to if you live downtown. There are plenty of machines and they have stickers showing you how to work them.
Fantastic, clean and amazing with Covid response. The science based care they encourage in the community and among members had me signing up immediately!
Helpful staff, quality facilities that are well cared for. After decades of not going to a gym, Capital Fitness has provided a wonderful environment for my pursuit of improving my health and wellbeing.
I have been a member of Cap Fitness for over 20 years. Ive tried others, but this one is it for me, due to the skilled trainers, the variety of machines and workout options, the classes, the cleanliness, the staff. Seriously, the complete package.
Very reasonable price for the off-peak hours membership. Staff is always very polite and for a small gym it never feels crowded!
Clean and well-maintained, plenty of space to move around and good selection of equipment, friendly and helpful staff, lots of good classes to consider.
Great gym! Nice locker rooms. Quality equipment. Clean.
Regret taking out a membership here make sure you read the contracts fully! I’m moving and can’t use the gym for months and then after 6 months the cancellation fee is still about 150 dollars, basically they don’t care if you’re actually using the gym they just want the money! Paying almost 300 dollars for a gym I can’t use but they said they won’t let me cancel it early because of the contract, not nice
Great gym! Always feel comfortable there and there is plenty of equipment.
The gym is never too crowded and Im really happy with all the equipment that they have. The only complaint that I have is that I wish there was a standard pull up bar.
I love the friendly faces, the giant weight room with so many options available!
I am happy to walk in being greeted with a smile. The people make it point to build rapport and learn your name and to ask how you have been.
I have been a member for 15 years and love the lunch workouts.
Love working out here—close to home, nice staff, machines in good order. Keeps me in shape!
Great place to workout with friendly staff and a wide variety of equiptment!
The gym is always nice and the staff are great.
Gym is very clean and staff are always friendly.
Excellent gym if you live downtown
It is a good gym with helpful staff.
Cap Fitness offers great bang-for-the-buck compared to a lot of gyms out there. Equipment is pretty new and well maintained and the facility is clean... not sure what more youre really going to be looking for!COVID note: Although this should be the case at all gyms, I can confirm that at Cap Fitness, EVERYONE I see is wearing a mask and EVERYONE I see is wiping down their equipment when they get done with it.
Capital Fitness is a great facility. I have been going to Capital Fitness for almost 4.5 years now and I have enjoyed it very much. The cliental are great! Ive formed many good relationships and developed a strong relationship with the management team and the trainers. I did leave for a short period of time to have a change of scenery but came back shortly after because I felt that Capital Fitness was a better fit for me. Yes, there are areas to improve, but the staff is great and the equipment is well kept. I recommend Capital Fitness to anyone! Do the 7 day trail, take a group workout class and see how you like it. Would also recommend checking out the spa above too.
Has everything I need!
The staff has incredible vision for fitness and wellbeing. They are constantly trying to fill the gym with equipment based on reviews of the customers and that align with the trends of where fitness is headed. This is a great place to workout if you are in Madison for the day or live here permanently.
This is my first review ever and I am leaving this review because I was really upset by the front desk and believe there are improvements that can be done. Today after checking in I went to women’s locker room only to found out that I left something in my car. When I came back I forgot to check in because the scanner is very far away. To my surprise, I was chased by the front desk when I was trying to change in the locker room and it was super embarrassing. I would recommend the gym owner to set up a check in desk that is more convenient (on first floor) and stop embarrassing your customer when they are trying to change!
Good gym, somewhat expensive, I left because I needed a gym with basketball courts. But, they have a 30 day cancellation policy which is rather ridiculous. I tried to cancel, but they told me theyd have to bill me later that week for the next month. Its not like I was cancelling mid month. They just needed to squeeze one more months amount of money from me.
Lets me get my workout done at my pace. Enjoyable staff that always are quick with a hello
Staff is very friendly and know you on a first name basis. Very clean and well kept. And the shakes are delicious!
I think this place is great quality for the price. $40 a month for unlimited yoga, exercise classes and fitness equipment usage? Good deal. I personally enjoy going to the yoga classes here. Running/elliptical/bike machines are modern with TV screens. Classes are at all times of day. I would suggest this place to a friend as the only downtown Madison fitness option.
I love this gym!! I have been looking for a gym in Madison for awhile now, and right when I walked into Capital Fitness, I knew itd be the right fit for me. The front desk staff is very attentive and informative. The numerous extra classes they offer as a part of the membership are an awesome benefit. There are tons of yoga classes you can take for no extra charge as well!! The gym is clean, and spacious, and dont forget a smoothie bar that is SO GOOD. Great experience love it
Best gym in Madison! All the right equipment and amazing staff. Going to Capital Fitness is highlight of my day!
I use Capital Fitness mostly for the yoga classes, which I really enjoy. I only wish there were more of them and that the teachers corrected students poses more. It is rare that a teacher corrects my poses, and I always wonder if Im doing it right.Aside from that, the yoga studios are beautiful, and I really enjoy the gym in general. Ive also taken group fitness classes that I enjoy.
I have had nothing but great experiences at Capital Fitness/The Yoga Sangha. As a gym facility, it has a wide variety of what just about anyone would need for a solid workout. As a yoga studio, I found it to be the best in Madison! There is a wide variety of styles and teachers for any student. It is a great balance to have both offerings under one roof. The price? Unbeatable! I am going to miss it!
The gym on W. Washington is really nice and the equipment is in great condition. Everyone who works there is helpful and kind. The only issues I have are the lack of a bench press bench (the squat rack doubled as a bench press rack) and that it is a little pricey. Otherwise it is a great place to exercise.
I love this gym! I think the staff is always friendly and helpful. The classes are top quality! I also like the second location if I am just looking to get a fast workout in.
Its a solidly mediocre gym, if you are used to a larger city and wider selection of offerings. It seems to be good for what Madison has to offer. The group fitness classes are very hit or miss - VERY hit or miss although they seem to have a solid core following. Some are taught by people who seem to have limited awareness of either the sport they are simulating or strength and body types. But some are really good.In terms of equipment, the gym has what you would basically need. The yoga classes are absolutely top notch for the most part and worth the price of membership. The parking is simply ridiculous. You should not charge for a membership and parking on top of it. Also, the locker rooms are dated and the hairdryers and lockers often dont work well.
This place is the complete package and the best price in town. Great Yoga studio, Ellen is one of the top teachers in town, clean gym with new equipment, access to lap pool, and group classes. People are friendly and remember your face. Places of improvement might be that the steam room isnt reliable.
Great fitness center. Yoga Sangha adds so much to the experience. I almost exclusively use my membership to go to yoga classes. The schedule is packed with great classes by amazing yoga teachers. This feature alone is worth the membership fee. Most other yoga studios charged way more for a month membership. You get the best yoga classes plus all the fitness center benefits.
I was a member here for over a decade. I primarily kept my membership solely for the central location and group classes. However the equipment is old, the gym is always dirty, there is a steady ceiling leak of water in the group fitness room (!), and they have just terrible customer service with the constant turnover of managers. The group class offerings has declined too. Would not recommend.
Elevated Gym experience- the staff is friendly and professional. If you want to take a class - they definitely have one to suit your needs...there really is so much to choose from. But I was truly impressed after I injured my knee during a race and my doctor recommended that I strengthen my core and maybe work with a trainer. Thats when I met Pete Brown and started my journey toward learning how to mindfully train my body. If your looking for an intelligent trainer who will treat you as an individual and listen to your needs Capital Fitness is the gym for you. Ive been a member for a couple of years now and the appeal is still there. Oh and for you runners out there - if you have to get on a treadmill, the views from the second floor are pretty beautiful!
The equipment at this gym is fairly old. It is typically clean. Nearly every class I have been to has had a great instructor. However, they have decided to SLASH 40% of all classes this summer when people want to get in shape! Numerous members have emailed management, and the instructors are upset to lose their livelihood. This is a big part of why we pay for fitness centers like this instead of Planet Fitness. Hopefully they change their mind about cutting classes so drastically.
Great gym. Friendly staff. Good selection of equipment. Have everything needed at both locations to get a good workout. Hours open help me fit in a workout irrespective of my busy and irregular hospital schedule. Would highly recommend!
Capital Fitness is a great gym, especially for classes! I go to the cycling, fitness, yoga and pilates classes and they are all great - I love the variety that is available. The instructors are very friendly, each has their own style so you can find what fits you best. The yoga studio provides a welcoming environment for all skill levels. I highly recommend this gym.
Yoga is included in the membership. If you went to one yoga class a week it would pay for your membership. And there are around 5 yoga classes per day. I never have to wait for equipment. And I never have to wait for a shower. The facility is clean. And the others general fitness classes are included as well.
If you live in the Capital/Downtown area, this is your gym. Spacious, clean facilities with well maintained equipment. The staff and trainers are great. As far as what they offer for services, gym/spa/classes---------------------------------------------------------***REVISION: Recently changed management, not what it was as far as quality in my opinion. Not to say services arent what they were, just an overall drop in cleaning/staff/gym store etc. Stopped going about 6 months ago because the mens downstairs locker-room smelled so terrible by the weekend. 😕
They just added a bunch of squat racks, another deadlift space and a ton of new equipment. Great gym
Lots of classes to choose from. Friendly instructors and staff members. Affordable membership. Locker rooms are always clean. Convenient sign-in system and location. Equipment/Machines are available in 3 different levels. My favorite things are the Yoga Sangha studio and the outdoor classes. The only downfall is having to pay for parking Monday-Friday and not having access to a pool.
Only one of the two restrooms is actually usable. The one downstairs Im pretty sure has something growing in it. Dont buy the whole 2 gyms for 1 cost because their West Washington location is basically a hyped up hotel gym. Weights are super un-organized and 35s are just kinda left lying around cause nobody knows where to put them. They only have one of each machine which is awesome during rush hour when its packed after 5 and you can never do your exercises cause theres no other machine that works the same muscle group. You also pay $55 a month for a gym that closes at 9pm 3 days out of the week so thats pretty sweet. And if you do decide to become a member theres a $150 fee if you want to cancel, and you can only do that after 50% of your yearly contract has already been paid for.Honestly, a snap fitness or an anytime fitness has the exact same equipment as this gym I dont think the $55 a month is worth it for the amount of time its open.
Used to be a great value until the recent decision to axe HALF of all yoga and fitness classes offered. Before signing up you may want to confirm that they dont plan to remove half the fitness equiptment during your membership too.
Im a member at the West Washington location and I love it! If you dont want to go to an over crowded gym Id recommend Capital Fitness. Very friendly and accommodating staff too.
I enjoy working out at capital fitness. They offer great yoga classes with wonderful teachers, offering various styles and backgrounds. They also respond to customer feedback. For example, I had requested that capital consider adding a dance fitness class called Werq to group classes and the management took that feedback and hired a great instructor, which makes my Friday workouts fun and is something to look forward to.
I have only gotten a yoga and Pilates membership, but I loved the upstairs studio and that tea was available. It felt really welcoming. Instructors are really knowledgeable and informative.
BEWARE THE CONTRACTS HERE: If you have to move or break the terms of the contract at all, Capital Fitness WILL NOT work with you. I am moving and they will not let me out of the terms of the contract!DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT WITH THESE PREDATORY INDIVIDUALS RUNNING THIS GYM!
This was my first gym in Madison, and it did not disappoint. Low monthly payments, never too crowded, a mix of classes, great hours, nice staff! There are many nooks, crannies, and floors if you want space/privacy. Have had a really good experience overall!
Ive been a member at this gym for about a year now, and am not a fan. If it wasnt for my friends I would have stayed at Princeton Club. They have more locations, more equipment, better hours, and free parking at all hours of the day. They pretty much cost the same, but you get way less at capital fitness, and its more of a hassel. If you want to work out during the day you have to pay extra for parking which is annoying because I feel like I already pay enough to work out there. Also working out on the weekend can be difficult because they limit their hours even more. If you are deciding between Princeton Club, and Capital fitness like I was I would pay the extra $10 a month, because its well worth it.
Employees there were terrible. I experienced a person around me did not wipe out after using equipment and I told one of there employees. Guess what happened? That person still did not wipe at all next day and never ever after. Also, their wash clothes are terribly dirty. When my contract was done, about a week later, they charged me a locker room fee and I complained. Guess what happened? they never said sorry and just kept saying their excuses. Just keep in mind, they will keep your credit card information, even though your contract is done.Basically, I have no desire to recommend this place to be a good place to work out to anybody.
Great fitness facility with excellent staff, lots of equipment and many class options. Convenient to downtown and a great value! LOVE Capital Fitness!
Ive been a member of Cap Fitness on and off since they opened. These days I keep re-upping my membership for the Yoga Sangha. There are some really excellent teachers and with a monthly membership, the per class cost is lower than any other yoga studio I know of, which makes it possible for me to take multiple classes each week. And its wonderful to still have the option of taking other exercise classes, using the ellipticals, or using the sauna, if I want. The facilities and equipment are also regularly updated, maintained, and cleaned. Thanks Cap Fitness!
I have been a member for about a year now and have little to no complaints. Living on both sides of the capital, I have attended both locations regularly and would recommend the Butler location for its size and classes, but the west is equally nice if you are looking to get in a cardio or weight workout. Besides January/February, this gym is never over crowded and there is always space in classes. The gyms are always clean, organized, and machines are repaired quickly if they brake down. Having 2 weight rooms, 2 floors of cardio, 3 yoga studios, cycling classes, and fitness group classes for the price of membership is the best you will find downtown. They offer student, epic, and health insurance discounts as well. Most of the members are of the young professional/grad student age so I found making gym friends extremely easy as well if community is important to you.
Ive been attending classes at the Yoga Sangha for the past few months. If you buy a membership, this place is easily the best yoga deal in town right now at roughly half the cost of the nearest competitor, while offering a complimentary gym membership too. I even started lifting weights once a week, again.Theres really a wide variety of classes: a regular class for beginners, power flow, vinyasa, yin and alignment. What more do you want?
Cap Fitness is a great club. Excellent facilities, super staff, and an incredible yoga studio.
Steambath is awesome. Well done on maintenance crew on always having that going
Great club, great staff, great instructors- thanks for all your team does to help us get in shape- or at least think about getting in shape.
Lots of classes with knowledgable instructors. Excellent hours. I love the integration of the Yoga Sangha.
Good place, staff is cool and it isnt too busy in the evenings. Pretty inexpensive for the location and theyve got a good set up.
Convenient location and hours, great yoga schedule, and clean facilities. A membership gives you unlimited access to group classes. I was looking for a gym where I could come for yoga and working out on machines, and its been perfect for that. Macpherson Worobecs yoga classes are transformative!
Has everything you need in a gym, good spot for young professionals, normally very clean.
Best gym in Madison. Two levels of weight equipment, 3 levels of cardio, free classes and a great staff.
Weight rooms, zumba, AND a separate yoga studio!
The weight room is always empty, sauna, steam room. Great gym with a decent membership rate if you live in the downtown area.
I have been a member for over 10 years. The yoga classes are excellent, the staff is friendly and the gym is a community unto itself.
Excellent gym, best yoga studio in town with the best teachers.
Would give more but sooo many things, equipment and the facility, are routinely broken or out of order and it always seems like months before things are fixed. The upkeep on the gym is why the score.
Reasonable cost, great facilities, and a great location!
