Before starting with Brett, I knew I wanted to get stronger. I started training at the gym his office was in and we became buddies. He was nice enough to handle me at my first powerlifting meet, and I signed up with him after that with another meet on the schedule. My first meet was in Feb 2021. Brett made a customized program for me to peak for another meet in May 2021. I did what my coach told me to do, and I put 18kg on my meet total in three months. When I hurt my back, he tailored my program to get back to health and do what I could do, safely. After a little while, I changed my goals, so he changed my style of training to meet my goals. There’s something about having someone to support you through the trials and tribulations of health and fitness. if you’re on the fence, I highly suggest you take a chance to take your strength to the next level, or to reach whatever the goal is you want to reach. I have mad respect for this guy. On top of that, we have a lot of fun. Like a gym family only better. Thanks Dad!
Accidentally meeting Brett and starting my training and rehab with Barbell Therapy has definitely been one of the best things to happen to my health in the past year and a half. On the rehab side of things, he has worked wonders when it has come to pain management for my knee and overall health of my body. Training with Brett has helped me continue to play volleyball at a high level and it has also provided me with an amazing community that hold me accountable and its super motivating!!
Dr. Brett is a professional strength coach and physical therapist that has kept my body moving correctly for over a year now. When a random strain/injury happens in the gym, I know I can make an appointment and get my questions answered, and the problem solved. He treats the injury with exceptional knowledge and teaches you how to move better to avoid injury next time. This guy isnt after your money... He is after your well-being. And its very obvious. His patients leave feeling cared for. And hes very friendly! Thank you Brett for taking good care of all of us :)
Ive just finished my 7th session with Dr Brett Scott for a frozen shoulder and Ive had fabulous results. I previously had 4 sessions somewhere else and made no progress. Currently I can move my shoulder really well and have no pain. I do the exercises that he prescribes every night and after each session he sends me a video link so I can do the exercises correctly. I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience...would highly recommend him.
Brett is amazing! He is so knowledgeable and willing to share his expertise. His holistic approach not only addressed my daughter’s immediate needs, but helped her build a foundation to reach her goals. He exceeded our expectations and I highly recommend!!
Brett has helped in so many ways. I highly recommend working with him!
Went in with annoying, irritable hip pain that I was dealing with for several months and have dealt with in the past. After only a several visits the pain went away and with Bretts help Ive been pain free. Brett is very knowledgeable and a lifesaver. Not only did he show me how to deal with the pain but also provided stretches if the pain/discomfort were ever to come back. I highly recommend Brett to anyone dealing with any pain.
I signed up for a remote mobility program, and showed very promising results after 4 weeks. Their program helped improve my ankle mobility as well as my squat form and squat depth after 2.5 months of quarantine. I’m close to gaining back my squat performance numbers before COVID-19 pandemic. Definitely worth it and recommend this company
AMAZING! Highly recommend! Very knowledgable. Went in with elbow pain that I was dealing with for many months. After only a few visits the pain went down substantially. Now Im pain free completely and back to 100% in the gym/work. Even gave me some stretches to do at home which made a huge difference. Brett is a lifesaver. 10/10 recommend.
I tweaked my back working out and started seeing Brett at Barbell Therapy within a few weeks of doing that. I was looking to not only get the pain under control but to also figure out what I could work on to get back to lifting safely. Between the PT and coaching on my techniques Im feeling much better and more confident while working out.
Brett is extremely different than any other physical therapist Ive ever tried. He gives you his undivided attention the entire time and truly cares about how much progress you make. Hes very professional, clean, and personable. I wish I skipped all the pain clinic and neurologist appointments and went straight to him! Definitely go see him, you wont regret it.
I had the chance to work with Brett in a semi private group training for power/Olympic lifting, as well as observe his PT skills over the last 5 months. I am very impressed with his level of knowledge and passion he brings to this field. He is very detail oriented and committed to helping patients/athletes reach their goals. In his group classes, he facilitates a friendly environment and always pushes everyone to work at their highest potential. In regards to the physical therapy side of his practice, he brings a very forward thinking and progressive mindset that is a valuable asset to the future of this field. He works very hard to further his own knowledge and skills in order to bring the best care to his patients. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Brett to anyone whether they are seeking PT, improving their physical fitness or both.
Brett is a godsend. I have been dealing with severe chronic neck and back pain for 15 years and have dealt with a myriad of chiropractors, orthos, surgeons, you name it. He has been the first person to address the systemic issues that I have been suffering from and tailor a plan to fix the issues. I am already improving after three weeks under his care, despite over a decade of the “traditional” approach. I owe this man my life!
Bret’s awesome! He has a great understanding of how the body functions and integrates it well with athletics/lifting. He’ll help you get back to what you love to do.
I highly recommend Brett. Seeing him for hip and lower back pain. I had stopped exercising because it was getting worse. Thanks to him I am jogging again!! He’s provides one on one treatment and is extremely knowledgeable.
I highly recommend Brett for physical therapy. Recently I was suffering frompain in my lower spine and I was unable to practice my sport (I am a shot putter), so I looked for options to find relief. My first stop was a chiropractor, which helped for a few days, but then my pain came back even stronger than before. I then decided to go to Brett for a more in depth analysis of the problem and he was able to identify the source of my pain. Not only did he figure out why the pain was occurring, but he gave me corrective exercises that helped me feel like I was playing a role in my recovery. After only a few days my pain was totally gone and I was able to return to practice and then head off to college, where I compete at a Division 1 level. To this day I still use his exercises to prep my body for movement and exercise and I have been feeling great!I have been working with Brett for over a year in the weight room, which has taken me from entry level in a sport to at the pinnacle level. Not only is Brett great at supporting people, but he is aware of how each person is different. Brett is willing to work with each individual for a common goal of making them move in a better and safer manner, which allows him to provide help to a variety of people. If you are looking for someone to help with pain or stiffness or even just feeling better overall, I highly recommend Brett and Barbell Therapy!
Nothing but positive things to say about about Brett and his practice. He is confident in himself as a physical therapist, yet always open to new ideas and trying different things. His knowledge surrounding the human body and how it works is nothing short of amazing.Besides his physical therapy expertise, Brett is also an amazing coach, with specific knowledge on olympic weightlifting and powerlifting that is applicable to everyone, yet hard to come by. The quality of his coaching becomes obvious when you see the progress of his clients, whether that be performance or health related.Along with his skills in providing care and training, Bretts positive attitude and approach is one that creates a truly unique, inclusive, and inviting atmosphere. 11/10!!!!
Brett Scott, at Barbell Therapy and Performance, has been tremendously helpful and successful with the physical therapy that he has provided to me during a relatively complex health problem. I was looking for physical therapy that went beyond merely regaining limited function. Dr. Scott customizes his therapy to the patient, and definitely challenges the patient, but adjusts as necessary to be sure it is accomplishable. I give him the highest recommendation.
Brett is the absolute man! Was having knee issues for well over a year and wasn’t sure what the issue was. Within five sessions Brett was able to figure out what was causing the knee pain, the steps to take to reduce the pain and techniques/exercises to improve my leg strength. The sessions were always challenging and I always left feeling better. I recommend him without hesitation!
Brett is straight forward and a good teacher. He is confident in his knowledge of PT and is also not afraid of trying new techniques. As an aging ex athlete it’s good to have a guy like Brett around. 😉
Brett is a wizard. I went to him for some wrist tenosynovitis and left with a totally different view of how many body behaves. While my tenosynonvitis hasnt entirely cleared up, Ive addressed lingering issues with core, hip, and shoulder stability that have drastically altered and improved my weight training. Best part about it is that he will educate you and give you a solid foundation of knowledge to dig in to if your issues crop up again. I would recommend him to anyone looking to fix and understand their body.
Thank you Brett! Great attention to detail. Brett spent as long as was necessary to diagnosis and help me understand what was going wrong with my movements. Recommend him and his service highly!
Brett is a very methodical & supportive coach! He tailors each individual’s program to meet their needs & desires- whether it be an upcoming Olympic weightlifting meet, or looking to build strength & synchrony in the body after a surgical procedure, he’s got you!
Very effective, knowledgeable, and makes it easy to understand and replicate. The fact everyone has rated him 5 stars should say something.
I cannot say enough good things about Barbell Therapy. Brett is very knowledgeable and takes the time to design a personal program for each client to reach their respective goals for optimum fitness and/or recovery.
Brett is the best. He has helped me greatly with many injuries from weightlifting and mobility issues. His knowledge on mobility and proper technique while lifting are great. He is extremely caring and thorough. I would recommend anyone I know that needs physical therapy or help with mobility issues or recovery to go see Brett at Barbell Therapy!!
Wonderful trainer and physical therapist! I’ve been using his programming for over a year & am in the best shape I’ve ever been in! I used to get headaches daily, but thanks to Brett I am headache free! Brett showed me different ways to fix the problem & it’s the best thing I’ve ever done! If only he came into my life sooner! Very knowledgeable and highly recommend all he has to offer!
Im a strength athlete thats been seeing Brett for a year for PT. His tactics are more innovative than anyone Ive worked with prior and takes his time to figure out the cause of the issue. After working with him on lower body imbalances, I was finally able to break a 4 year deadlift plateau.
Brett is wonderful ! He actually listens to you when you tell him your goals, then gives you a program to meet those goals. And he doesnt hesitate to call you out when youre not giving your all - something I definitely need! I would recommend him to anyone looking to focus on form and improvement with weight lifting or power lifting.
I found Dr. Scott on Thumbtack and would highly recommend.I live in Boston and we mostly worked together remotely for about a year (until my work schedule got too hectic). He helped me put together workout and diet plans to help me achieve my fitness goals, and our regular interactions through email and Skype were very useful for keeping me on track and accountable. Even though Ive been lifting for many years, Id never previously hired a trainer and was impressed how a few little adjustments to diet and technique improved my results and made me much less injury-prone.Dr. Scotts dual role as trainer/physical therapist is super valuable especially if you have a history of injuries. I get periodic shoulder pain after having had surgery several years ago and he helped me curate workouts around this. We did a few rehab sessions, which got me into dry needling (which I also highly recommend).I get periodic shoulder pain after having shoulder surgery several years ago and we did a few rehab sessions as needed. He got me into dry needling which I highly recommend.I had previously tried a lot of bro science-y diets with questionable results and it was really helpful for me to work with and get direct feedback someone who actually knew what he was talking about. Interacting with Dr. Scott saved me many hours of dubious internet fitness research. The only downside of working with Dr. Scott is that he is based out of Lowell, which is inconvenient if youre based in Boston. We mostly worked remotely so this generally wasnt an issue, but I would have attended his coaching sessions much more frequently if I lived closer to his practice.
I highly reccommend coming to Brett with any of your exercise, PT, programming, rehab needs! I have been working with Brett for the past 6 months and have made immense progress. Brett does individual programming for me to meet my goals and also work on all of my weaknesses. When I have injured myself, I have used Brett for PT and he is phenomenal in that area as well. With a strong knowledge base and constantly learning new techniques/keeping up with new knowledge I know I am in great hands.Brett understands and preaches that health and rehab is not one or two sessions and boom you are all fixed, but is a process that requires education, persistence and a desire to be better.See Brett and you are in great hands.
Brett helps me out everytime I am in pain from lifting. He helps address the issue on the spot and gives me things to do on my own. He also teaches me about why/how things work in the body so it is clear to me when I leave. I have been going for about 4 years now.
I went to Barbell Therapy for a nagging shoulder injury (2+ years). I had been going to another PT for months without much improvement. Within two months my shoulder pain had subsided and more importantly I was back doing the things I love to do. Thank you so much to a Brett! I can’t say enough good things about Barbell Performance and Therapy.
Ive only been to an initial visit so far, but hes already helped me fix some problems with my squats. Looking forward to working together.Update: Brett has been invaluable in getting me over my injury and with his guidance I have improved my form in all of the olympic lifts. I highly recommend seeing him if you are recovering from an injury or just want to see consistent improvement without pain.
As a competitive runner who can’t stand to be sidelined, Brett has helped immensely to not only lesson the pain, but to make me a stronger person/runner in general. I am confident that with his help I will be able to become stronger and faster than ever!
Dr. Brett is amazing. I was suffering from lower back pain due to using bad form during deadlifts. His assessment was very thorough and he gave me a new warm-up routine to activate my lower back muscles without triggering the pain. Its only been a week and Im happy to say that Im pain-free. Hopefully I can start lifting heavy again in a couple of weeks!
Brett is both a very knowledgeable physical therapist and an expert trainer. He is skilled at developing custom exercise programs that are precisely tailored to address a specific issue. His calm, relaxed style puts you at ease and enables you to make the best possible progress toward your goals.
Great PT, and strength coach! Wide range of skills and tools readily at his disposal. Help you hit PRs and fix you when your broken. What else could you ask for except Maybe a few cucumbers over the eyes while he sticks needles in you.
I am so grateful I found Brett of Barbell Therapy and Performance, LLC! I was interested in trying out powerlifting and knew I needed a coach who knew what he was doing. Having Brett as a coach, with a Doctorate of Physical Therapy background proved crucial to my training needs as I had come to him with a previous shoulder injury and a left hip that had begun to hurt when I started squatting heavier on my own. Brett was able to give me prehab moves to incorporate in my training to help increase my performance and decrease my pain. Then when I decided to switch up my training, without hesitation, he wrote up a new program according to my aesthetic goals. Definitely hire Brett as a coach as he will definitely be able to help you reach your athletic goals!
Before there even was a Barbell Therapy, there was my friend, Brett - a highly intelligent, extremely passionate young man studying fitness. He read and listened to podcasts constantly, as well as hard working in his studies in School. And early on, he showed powerful gifts for functional training, strengthening weakness, and healing the body in an active way.I had suffered a herniated/bulging disk, and it created even issues walking.I was determined not to have surgery, and after explaning and consulting with him - Brett agreed. He and I met, close to a dozen times, working on muscle activation work, and how to stay active, while treating the disk, and even aiding in the bulge to be pulled in. I never had the surgery and years later, I still give Brett the lion share of the credit. I constantly refer to him in conversation, regardless of whether its for massage, Grastoning, recovery, strengthening a weakness, or techniques on Olympic or Powerlifting. And I proudly still wear my Barbell Therapy shirt occasionally to the gym.. because now, 6+ years later, I have been relatively, 98+% pain free, and continue my own Fitness journey.Brett is an excellent blend of practical knowledge, and calm counsel, meshed with a quiet intensity that will put nearly any person at ease.Go try Brett for any of the services he offers, and experience the Barbell Therapy difference for yourself.
After a bad car accident and years of unsuccessful PT for bad tendinitis in shoulder, knee, and hip Brett helped me develop a plan that has me running, Olympic lifting, and even competing in obstacle course races. Can’t say enough good things about his positive attitude and unique approach to PT and training. A+
As a PT myself, I can highly recommend Dr. Brett Scott’s services. He is knowledgeable and an experienced strength coach, a combination that would help you as a lifter, athlete or anyone looking to recover from an injury. I would not hesitate to send Brett friends/family if they are in the Boston area.
Bretts been my olympic weightlifting coach for almost 2 years now. My goal was to eventually compete in the sport. It took him time to deconstruct my bad form and technique and rebuild everything from the ground up. The results have been amazing as I have not only become a competitor in my sport but Ive medaled in all 4 of my competitions so far. My goals have now changed, and we are now training for me to reach national level competitions! Oh, and because he is a licensed physical therapist who actively participates in weightlifting competitions alongside me, he understands what our bodies go through and how to correct and get us athletes back to form after injuries or pain. Cant ask for more than that.
I’ve been working with Brett for about 3 weeks in a strength coach capacity. My Snatch and Clean and Jerk have improved dramatically. I am a beginner and recommend working with Brett.
Guy knows his stuff and will give you a plan day 1 to get you back up and running.
Would highly recommend, especially for strength athletes that need sport-specific PT. I went to Barbell Therapy for hip pain that had been plaguing me for over a year. Im a powerlifter and could tell the pain was training-related; Id tried a different PT clinic but didnt see much improvement. When I went to Barbell Therapy, Brett was quickly able to identify form issues and muscle imbalances that were contributing to the problem, and gave me the cues I needed to fix my technique as well as corrective stretches/exercises. He worked with me on my competition squat and bench over the course of several sessions -- this really stood out considering my previous PT never once even watched me squat with a bar. After working with Brett, Im finally able to move forward with training without pain.
Working with Brett has been fantastic. After a subpar experience working with a multi-location PT Facility I turned to Brett for help, and results/recovery ensued immediately.Ive been seeing him for a shoulder injury that has severely affected my lifting program - Brett took his time diagnosing the issue and explained it in terms that made it easy to understand. Further, he developed a progressive rehabilitation plan entirely customized to my injury. Best of all, his sessions are 1 on 1 so I dont have to wait between exercises or work with a different person each time I go.If youve tried conventional PT facilities you owe it to yourself to check out Barbell Therapy. The cost is almost identical to what youll pay anywhere else but the value add is easily worth double what you get elsewhere.I went to the multi-location PT facility for 2 months with sessions 2x/week - didnt see much improvement. Ive seen Brett for 1 month, 1x/week and the results have been far better.
Brett has been my powerlifting coach for the past year. Before I started training with him I had been experiencing back pain from lifting with bad form. His programming and expertise got me to the point where I was no longer in pain or uncomfortable. In the past year I’ve added significant weight to all of my lifts on top of losing 40lbs of body weight. He’s also guided me with nutrition and has helped me have a more positive relationship with food. If you’re looking for a coach, this is your guy.
Very professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and highly skilled therapist. I have been working with Brett for over 3 years now. I first started working with Brett for personal training. After a back injury I started working with him as my physical therapist. I am always impressed and satisfied with services received; he takes the time to explain the causes of symptoms and pains and explains what needs to get worked on, why and how to safely go about it. My back pain is much more controllable and less frequent and I am much stronger than before we started working together. I would recommend anyone suffering from joint pain, an injury, or looking to step up his or her training gives Barbell Therapy a call.
Brett is a great trainer and coach! He helps you push your limits and get great results. Highly recommend!
I went to Brett for some debilitating lower back pain I was experiencing after hurting it deadlifting. He was very thorough researching when the pain started, confirming the problem areas, inspecting my range of motion, pain level, comfort with movements before the session. After working with me for an hour, my back felt significantly better. I could now drive and even exercise without the insurmountable pain I was in. Brett also have me some exercises I could do on my own as a warm up before training or during to keep the tension at bay. At no point did I feel uncomfortable or pressured during my visit.10/10 would recommend to anyone.
Brett is knowledgeable and careful. He understands injuries can be painful so he tries to work around it. He informed me of what he was working on and the reasoning behind it. I left there feeling much better than when I first walked in!
Brett is a wonderful trainer. Hes highly educated, personable, and a great judge of individual limitations. I highly recommend him.
Brett has been coaching me and designing my program for six months now and he has helped me make significant progress. Within this timeframe I have taken my previous 1RM bench and deadlift for sets of 3 and added 70 pounds on my powerlifting total. Most importantly his programming and coaching has me lifting 4 days a week without experiencing pain like I was previously. Highly recommend Brett for anyone interested in powerlifting, olympic lifting or general strength and conditioning.
I highly recommend Brett for physical therapy work! I have known Brett for almost two years now and knew that he had been coaching and performing the PT work for a slew of lifters in the NE region; given Brett’s knowledge on both powerlifting and weightlifting, as well as his ever-expanding PT work (he’s constantly taking classes on new techniques and trying to learn more), I knew he was the person I needed to go to when I started experiencing severe back pain a month out from my first USAPL meet (regionals)… long story short, with a slew of personal stress, alongside gym fatigue, I was in a pickle and didn’t know what to do. I knew Brett has worked with other lifters in the past and got them working again so that they could compete, and so he was my first option. I ended up seeing Brett twice a week for two and a half weeks leading up to the meet, and I no longer had back pain! I couldn’t deadlift for almost a month prior to the meet, however, given weekly massages, dry needling, and a slew of exercises to regain my mobility, and desensitize my body to the “pain” (overactive pain receptors), I was able to take 3rd in my weight class. Without Brett’s help, I would have had to completely pull out of this meet. Brett is incredibly easy to work with and schedule with, and he takes out of network insurance, so I was able to pay for the sessions with my insurance card. Overall, highly recommended.
Excellent Therapy - incredibly knowledgeable practitioner that enabled better movement after one session.
Very knowledgeable. Not only will he help you, but hell give you the tools to help yourself in the long run.
Brett is the best. He really watches for correct form!
When I moved to the area I was looking for a new non-commercial gym. I was looking for a place with a culture of getting better and the equipment with which to make it happen. Shortly after moving to the area I walked into the SBC and was greeted by the owner Bobby. Before discussing prices or anything of the such he gave me a walking tour of the facilities and asked me questions about myself and what I hope to achieve. His interest in his clients and members is genuine. He also does personal training sessions and you can tell from the mans physique he knows what hes talking about. So listen up. The facilities are perfect for improving yourself in anyway you see fit. Here you will NEVER have to wait for a squat rack haha. The gyms equipment definitely caters to the strongman/powerlifting/Olympic lifting crowd but its not at all intimidating. Bobby has instilled a culture of family and respect. Its a very close community that you will be accepted into almost immediately. Even if I dont know the person someone is always ready and willing to give me a spot or give me some advice. There is also an on site Physical Therapist/Trainer named Brett. After dislocating my shoulder I wanted to get back into lifting heavy so I had a consultation with Brett. He set me down and went over my medical history, went through an examination of range of motion and strength. Then he proceeded to show me exercises to ease back into the lifting world and make sure I dont risk reinjury. Its been a year since the injury and so far so good. Brett also does training seminars and has a YouTube channel you should subscribe to. Also occasionally Bobby/Brett will bring in there dogs. Deadlifts & dogs? Can you ask for anything better? There is no other gym I would rather train at than SBC. It simply has the best equipment, community and personnel.
Brett is the Best!!! His treatments helped dramatically and training techniques are working!
Disrespectful and unprofessional. Even after I cancelled Im still getting charged the monthly coaching fee with no response from the owner. Avoid.
I went to Barbell Therapy and Performance and told Brett I want to be a savage. Six months later I am now, in fact, a savage.
