FLIGHTS TO/FROM: Los Angeles, California to Auckland to Queenstown, New Zealand and Queenstown to AucklandDATES TAKEN: 02/21/20 and 02/27/20I always thought it was weird to review an airline, but my husband and I just enjoyed our experience with them so much that I had to say something. Actually, from now on when traveling to that part of the country, Im sure we will make it a point to travel using Air New Zealand (it also helps that we fell in love with Queenstown)LONG FLIGHT - For a long flight (12 hour sand 55 minutes from LAX to AKL), this was a blessing. Its always tough to make a long flight comfortable but I found the seats as comfortable as they can be for an airplane. It was easy to walk to the bathroom without feeling you were inconveniencing the flight crew and they were respectful of requests for water. I always hate when you feel like its an inconvenience to ask for more water. They also offer options like the space couch thats cheaper than first class.SERVICE - Great service, as mentioned above, I never felt like I was inconveniencing the flight crew. Always nice to see how green-conscious they are - on short flights they had us hold onto our plastic cups, so we werent using so many for 1 flightIN-FLIGHT ENTERTAINMENT - the free wifi for the entire flight (only for the longer flight) made the flight go by even faster. The in-flight center was also packed with games, TV shows and movies - that I actually wanted to play and watchINTERNATIONAL TO DOMESTIC TRANSFER - My biggest word of caution is the transfer from Internal to Domestic part of the airport. It is quite a haul and 1 hour and 45 minutes was BARELY enough time - we were walking to the stairs to our gate as they were announcing final boarding. It is a POSSIBLE connection in the time-frame if you know the airport. We walked the wrong direction (towards the gates) then realized the baggage check-in was the other direction - losing time. With automated check-in kiosks, it was also a little tough to get information on what to do to get our bags checked in for our domestic flight.BOOKING - We booked both through their website as well as using our Chase Ultimate Rewards points

They make the difference with good meals, internet free but above all the good quality in the service provided by the flight attendants

I recently flew with Air New Zealand roundtrip from Los Angeles to London for the holidays on their 777-300 and was honestly very excited to finally try this airline. I had heard great things and had never flown a luxury airline before, the closest being Virgin Atlantic (which is who I usually fly on my trips to London). But having found a very nice price for Air New Zealand I thought it would be worth spending a little bit more for the extra comfort and booked it. However, I now regret that decision.First, I found the seats to be less comfortable than a lot of other airlines I have flown with. As previously mentioned I usually fly Virgin Atlantic and they seem to have more padding in their seats. I am by no means a large person (56 and 123 pounds) so the size of the seats doesnt usually bother me unless they are tiny, but these did feel pretty narrow and they were so hard that sleeping was extremely difficult (I usually find it very easy to sleep on long haul flights). I will say that they recline very nicely, but when reclined they leave a gap at your lower back that you need to fill with one or two pillows or else it would not be comfortable at all.I was also underwhelmed with their food. I called ahead to get their ovo-lacto vegetarian option and it was not enjoyable at all going either direction. It has been years since I have been that disappointed with airline food, and it just didnt stack up against Virgin, Lufthansa, British, KLM, or any of the other international flights I have been on in at least the past five years. On the way back I honestly couldnt eat half of it before giving up and trying to go back to sleep. The entertainment options are fine, they dont have a fantastic catalog but its nothing to be upset over. I dont doubt that anyone could find something they would want to watch on their menu. However, I was extremely disappointed to find that they do not have Wifi on their planes. I did not think there were any upper end long haul airlines that didnt have Wifi capabilities in 2018. If I had known that I probably would not have booked with Air New Zealand, as someone with pretty severe anxiety I find it important to have the option to contact friends back on the ground while flying for so long, so that news was jarring and upsetting (but I should have looked that up myself prior). The option to order drinks and snacks directly from your screen is definitely nice. There have a large selection of alcohol available for their economy cabin, including sparkling wine. Unfortunately, on my return flight they ran out of most of the snack options (of which there were three) fairly quickly so if you wanted anything to eat you had the option of cookies with fruit in them and nothing else. You can also still get sleep masks, tooth brushes, and ear plugs for free and the blankets they provide are nice and plush.Overall it wasnt a particularly bad flight either way, but I wouldnt say they were great or even really good either. Given this airlines usual price point and reputation however I was highly disappointed and would definitely suggest going with another airline.

Great, safe planes but terrible customer service. As A Star Alloanve Gold member for many years I really expected more from such an airline. Especially since every single person from New Zealand I have ever met has been truly amazing!!

We just arrived into LAX en route to San Diego. The entire team on NZ2 was great. We are regular flyers and the staff really get to know you. We are biased because we are kiwi but Air New Zealand really is a great airline to travel with.

Flew economy Lax to Syd via Akl. Pricing was very good. Main complaint would be lack of flight crew. Was a red eye flight but had to wait almost 1hr for crew to come around and collect trays after dinner, which was a pain as I wanted to sleep but had nowhere to put the tray. Hostesses dont travel the isles often offering refreshments like other airlines, found out later they prefer you to use the inflight ordering system, which is a good idea to help keep the isles clear but at least inform people about the system before departing, at least I know for next time.Good recline amount on seats. Skycouch is a great idea for long haul.

An absolute nightmare from LAX to Heathrow. The most narrow seats. Avoid at all costs during an inter-continental flight. I spent at least 3 hours of the last half of the flight standing next to the restroom because sitting in my seat was pure misery. Generally, the arm rests separate the different seats, but in this plane, the arm rests overlap between the seats. Terrible. Service folks are friendly, but that doesnt make up for 10+ hours of discomfort.
