Just got back from a three day camping trip here. The people were great, 5 stars all the way. I like that the fire pits are old wheels, works great, and they radiate heat which is awesome on a cold night. As luck would have it, we were really the only ones camping. So we got the perfect site. Its changed ownership recently, from what I understand its now partly owned by Riverfront. Riverfront sent me over here because they wouldnt let me have my ATV at Riverfront, and as I have arthritis in my feet Im handicapped and can no longer camp without it. I just have to have it to get around campgrounds, to the river, bathrooms, store, etc.Fort Niangua only allows them at certain times (during mud events from what I gather) But they made an exception for me because of my use case. Riverfront wouldnt at all, so unfortunately Ill no longer be able to stay there. Im hoping Fort Niangua continues to make exceptions for special cases like mine, otherwise Ill have to stop camping the Niangua. To be fair, both campgrounds allow UTVs (side by sides), the restrictions are just on ATVs.While the people made it a five-star experience, The campground itself, currently, I would rate at about three 1/2 stars. Im hoping Riverfront, and the new owners, will invest some money and time into the campsites themselves. Its not bad, just needs some TLC. Mine was perfect, But a lot of the sites either needed picnic tables, or the tables needed help. New owners often go in and update everything, so Im expecting theyll take care of whats needed as the season progresses. The only other thing I would point out is a problem with most campgrounds on the Niangua, most of the sites dont have what I would call direct river access camping sites. Unless you get lucky, like we did, youll have to make a trek to get to an actual area with a gravel bar and access where you can set up chairs and play in shallow water. They have an awesome area here for just that, but theres only a few campsites with direct access. And even for me the closest was too far for me to be able to walk, but since they let me have my ATV it wasnt an issue. This is in no way unusual for river campsites on rivers like the Niangua. And of course river level also affects access to some extent. And I may be more aware of these facts than most people since walking is not really an option for me. Its not a negative just an observation. Just keep in mind that the good access campsites will always be the ones that go first. 😉

I stayed here in April of 2020 with my girlfriend. The place was beautiful, but the drive down to camp was very steep and full of potholes and was a little difficult in my smaller car, so keep that in mind. The camping spot we ended up with was awesome! Right on the river and I’m pretty sure we were the only ones in the campground (this was the beginning of the pandemic). The only main complaint I have was the fact that a few different cars from the trailer park above came down to the river during the day while we were camping and rode ATV’s around near the water directly next to our site, no big deal but slightly unsettling as we were the only ones in the campground and you never really know with some people nowadays. Overall a positive experience!

Absolutely horrible. They gave us a flat raft, we had to be rescued. We ended up floating in canoes which we didnt want. Never again. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

The location on the river was great and the float was a good length. The big “cabin” was attached to the main office building so that was strange. One of the beds had dirty sheets. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed in awhile and had a ton of dead bugs on the floor. The room smelled of smoke too.

Sorry, accidentally left a one star rating. Four stars. The grounds were clean and nice, the cabin was comfortable for a couple nights. Decent beds, bedding and A/C. The bathroom door didnt close well, and there was an odor that came from the bathroom. We bought some firewood from the store, but it was pretty wet and difficult to burn. Some of the staff could have been friendlier. Overall still a good experience and we would return.

I have been going to this resort for many years now to float the river on their raft package. I started off many years ago with a small group but in recent years my group as grown quite a bit in size. The last two years, I brought 30 people to share in the experience. Most of us come from about six hours away. However, some come in from more than ten hours to share the weekend. The resort staff is always welcoming to our large group and remembers me by name.We love our campsite and enjoy what the resort has to offer. The bus ride to and from the river is amazing as it keeps all from driving. If I wanted to provide one area for improvement it would be that the showers have more hot water. It is hit and miss after everyone starts getting off the river in the evenings. Nonetheless, even a cool shower is refreshing after getting of the river. This next year will be my 10th year coming to the resort. I know myself and everyone looks forward to spending the weekend at the Niangua resort and its staff. A big shout out to the staff as you make it the weekend we all look forward too.See you in 2019!

Would definitely not recommend this place. We float the Niangua River a couple times a year and this was by far the worst experience weve ever had. We always rent kayaks and what we were given from Fort Niangua was barely more than a paddle board. 8.5 feet long and so shallow/lightweight that seemed to be made only for kids. I sat in at least 3 deep water the entire trip because the kayak sat so low in the water - I only weigh 185#. This was the first time Ive ever hated kayaking and wanted it to be over. What is worse, the bus driver was supposed to let us know that we needed to take out at the Adventure takeout spot because the Fort Niangua sign keeps getting stolen. He did not tell us this. He really didnt say anything at all to us. We kept paddling and paddling looking for the Fort Niangua takeout but never found it. We asked people at all the other outfitters takeout spots if they knew where it was and everyone said they had no idea. We finally ended up at Mountain Creek and the owners there went above and beyond to help us. They are under new ownership and it is much nicer than it used to be. They allowed us to use the phone to call Fort Niangua and find out where we were supposed to be. They made us coffee, gave us jackets because we were wet and it was cold out. They kept their store open late and let us stay inside where it was warm while we waited an hour for Fort Niangua to come get us. When we made it back to Fort Niangua finally, we were greeted by a lady who was being rather rude and we were charged an extra $50. What was supposed to be a quick, affordable day float ended up taking 9 hours and costing $125 for two people. Really not fair to us since nobody bothered to tell us that their sign was stolen. Mountain Creek will definitely get our business from now on!

I would not recommend this resort! My family and I rented two cabins and canoes paying approx. $500. This would lead you to believe the cabins would be fairly nice. Do not believe the pictures, they look nice on the outside but are much to be desired on the inside. In one cabin we found mouse droppings in the silverware drawer, unfortunately they were found after we ate and were all through the drawer. The droppings were also in the cabinets where the plates were stored. In the other room we seen a snake slither under our bed. Yes, I said a SNAKE! It was easy to see how it got in, there was a hole in the wall that allowed it and many other insects a way in. The air conditioners did not work well either. When we informed the staff, one woman was rude and defensive. She said she sent someone to look at the rooms and my family didnt answer the doors. Apparently she must have sent someone while we were on the river. Staff were asked to wait until we returned to send someone to the cabin. Regardless, wouldnt one think if a customer found a snake and mouse droppings in the room, an owner might want to at least try and resolve the issue, maybe offer a bit of a discount? Instead the woman, quickly turned the blame to my family. CONSUMER BEWARE I see other unhappy consumer reviews on this website and complaints of unfriendly, rude staff. Really there was only one female staff member that was rude, but it only takes one. If you stay at this resort you may ruin what could be a fun weekend at another resort. We will not be returning! If we wanted to sleep with insects and rodents we would have camped outside.

This place was pretty pricey for a mediocre cabin that isnt on the river. It was reasonably clean mostly but bed sheets were not fresh. The cabin we stayed in was connected to the office, so we had to keep the door locked to prevent people from just barging in. The eight person cabin does sleep eight, but just note that four people are sleeping in the front room on a bed and very uncomfortable pull out couch. As a seasoned camper & floater I thought I should take a few minutes to review a campground that I have been visiting every year for the past 5 years. We typically have about 25-30 people in our group and have transplanted ourselves to this place recently from the nearby NRO campground.Let me justvstart by saying Ft. Niangua is a beautiful place to camp. Its not too quiet and not too loud. They do have karaoke night once a year and a couple of other events that are scheduled well in advance (so you can avoid the big crowds if thats not your sort of thing…). Our group moved to Ft. Niangua mainly because we were trying to escape the hip hop dance club that has become NRO campground. There were too many tough guys trying to start fights and too much bass music playing until 3am. Ft. Niangua is not that type of campground. While they do allow SOME moderate noise from each campsite in the evenings after 10, (it is impossible to keep a large group in their mid-20s completely silent), everyone respects each others space and listens to security when he comes by on his 4 wheeler to hush the crowd a little. The camping is so spread out that the larger groups can be placed away from the smaller groups to avoid any annoyances. We also choose this location because of their customer service. Sherry and Fidel are awesome people. They clearly enjoy what they do and their employees work hard to keep the place clean and running smooth. Even their bus drivers have a great sense of humor! We enjoy the freedom of being able to choose our campsite when we get there or even call ahead and reserve our favorite spot if we want. The breakfast shack is always a big hit on Sundays when were heading out. Its good food and just enough to keep the belly from growling until we get back to KC.The cabins are clean. Although i have never slept in one, I have been up there several times to check them out. The A/C is cold and the bed has blankets. What more do you need? Personally, I would rather be in a tent.. but to each his own. Ive never used the pool. I honestly dont see the point in having a pool when the river is a few hundred yards away. One last thing, and this could be the most important… the showers… I have camped at well over 100 campgrounds in MO in my lifetime because of boy scouts and past family travels. I know what its like to walk into a shower house that reeks of someone elses morning poo, or has run out of hot water. In the 5 years we have stayed here I have never had an issue with either. Thats a lot to say. Also out of my group of 30 friends I have only had one or two real complaints about that at this campground. The only real worry I have is that too many others will realize how awesome this place is, and it will start to overcrowd like NRO. I have heard form Sherry several times that they intentionally keep reservations low to keep the crowd and pollution down. I just worry that money will rule eventually and the place will become a mud pit like NRO. Not the case YET anyways. If you find yourself traveling to the Niangua River each summer and are looking for a place to camp, I would give Ft. Niangua a shot. You will be impressed and who knows… maybe youll bump into my group. Were a lot of fun. Just look for the american flag in the trees by the boat ramp or the four 8-man rafts coming down the river the second or third weekend in July!!
