Chang’s Discount Auto Repair charged me $3000 to replace my engine. One day later the check engine light came on, and I found out that he had never removed the original engine. When I called him, told him I had pictures, and told him that I was planning on filing a small claims case, he admitted it, apologized and refunded $1500. You can read the full story below....During a recent visit to Las Vegas, I took my car into Chang’s Discount Auto Repair because I felt like my car was losing some power as I was driving into Vegas. The car was running fine. I just wanted to get it checked out because I would have a long drive back home. After looking at my car, Chris (an employee of Chang’s Discount Auto Repair) called me with the diagnosis of a bad crank shaft and told me that my engine had to be replaced. He told me that it would cost me $3000, and he recommended that I try to sell the car rather than repair it. He said that the repairs would cost more than the car was worth and that he knew of some people that would probably be interested in buying the car for $500 and fixing it up. Instead of selling the car, I chose to pay the $3000 to replace the engine. Since I do not live in Las Vegas, I had to leave my car there and return to pick it up 3 weeks later. While I was driving the car home, the “Check Engine” light came on. I was a long way from Vegas, so I took the car to a local shop there in New Mexico. I explained the situation to the staff there, and after looking at my car, they showed me evidence that the engine in my car had NEVER been replaced. The bolts that hold the manifold cover in place were brand new and had NEVER been touched with a wrench. When I called Chang about it, he admitted it, and he instantly agreed to refund $1500. He only refunded half my money because he claims that he changed out the timing belt on my car and that the other $1500 was for that service. Did Chang replace my timing belt? Did he do any work at all? Did my car even need any repairs, much less $1500 worth? I will never know. One thing I do know is that Chang had no problem charging me a LOT of money for work he never did. He only refunded my money after getting caught and being threatened with court. Also, apparently there is a known scam of repair shops telling travelers that their cars are upside down in repair costs and offering to buy their cars at far less than they are worth.I waited a few days to write this review to ensure anyone who reads this that I am not writing this out of anger, but rather out of concern over the thought of this ever happening to anyone else. If you are going to have work done on your car in Las Vegas, my recommendation is not to take your car to Chang’s Discount Auto Repair. If you do, definitely make sure that you get a second opinion.

The owner is very honest (maybe even too honest). My wife and I came here after another shop tried to scam us into replacing parts (for $500) that we didnt need. We came to Changs Discount Auto instead and he charged us just $10 for tightening a few bolts! Hes definitely honest.

Such a great auto shop. Chang is outright amazing. Took me years and years of turmoil, but I finally found an efficient and honest mechanic. When are those two words ever in a sentence with mechanic? Exactly.

Ive never had a problem with Changs Discount Auto Repair and Ive been a customer for over 3 years. They are only one of very few shops that allow you to bring your own part for installation and save money in the process. Can you say that about other shops that try to rip you off with the parts they buy? They have always honored their appointments that ive made and have finished the work in a very timely manner. Chang is a very busy guy but always makes the time to listen to your automotive problems and try to help. Changs is the only place i will ever go to get work done.

Im in southern Cal, and my sons car in Vegas wouldnt start. He changed out the battery with no luck. We had it towed to Changs and on Monday morning I called to give details. Chang could have easily changed out the starter, as that was my suspicion. Instead he found nothing and charged nothing. Not sure why the car wouldnt start for my son, but its hard to find honest mechanics like this.

At first glance, he looked very honest and sincere man. After talking about my problem, I acknowlege that my feeling was correct.I went there with my wife after getting flat tire and some problem of impaired body.He was very kind, too.I here thank him for his kindness and honesty. I am a korean lawyer. I sometimes reminds this kind and warm - hearted man.

If it need to be replace he does it at about 1/3 of the prices that car dealer charge you for.If it doesn’t need to be replace he tells you ‘you good’ and doesn’t try to rip you off.The only one I trust.
