Changed ownership, (now Fitness US in Frandor) changed terms of prior agreements. Added early termination fees, and other fees in addition to what I previously paid. Staff more interested in explaining why my only recourse is to wait one year, and dont forget to let us know 30 days prior! The only advantage for me was location, now Im motivated to drive a little further.
Although Id prefer another gym, I am currently still a member at Fitness US because as a student with little free time, the $10 is worth it for me and the location is close to home. I am a bit irritated at the moment because as long as I have known with new ownership, it has been a 24 hour facility. Now, here I am on a Sunday evening at 5:40 (scheduled staff posted to leave at 6pm), I go to head in for a workout and the doors are locked and apparently theyre closed. Not only am I confused at why it isnt 24 hours, but even if they were locking up and closing early, the doors were locked and no staff was in sight 20 minutes before 6! Very unhappy right now.
DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. Invest your money in a better gym. The $10 a month is not really $10. $40 sign up fee and maintenance fees every couple months. The $10 a month plan is restricted, meaning you can only come in 3 DAYS out of the week. Just ridiculous. the equipment is dirty and old. the staff is pushy and rude. When I decided to cancel, the staff gave me a very hard time and basically withheld the cancelation form until I gave them an explanation of why I was canceling so they could try to argue against it. When you decide to cancel your membership, you must do it through their corporate system, which they claim takes about 30 days. When I canceled, it took them 2 months to process it (HOW??) and I ended up paying for 2 more months of the membership.
I went in to try it out for the day. after walking around and looking at the equipment i left and drove a half hour to my normal gym (just moved to Lansing). The gym was a mess. there were way to many people there. it was lacking of equipment to in my opinion. just a lot of machines. i prefer a place with out to many people that has the weights in the right place. that and every one keep looking at me.. if all you want to do is cardio and some of the machines the price is great. just wasnt for me
SCAMWalked in to check out how much it was, The only words the staff lady said was Sign This I asked her politely Im just interested in more information about pricing and she demanded we sign this paper before we could even speak to her about prices. That is when I decided to leave this creepy gym with an outrageously pushy rude staff member, Ill be sure to warn others of this incident.
Reading other reviews, I am surprised to see exaggerations, and complaints that sound like revenge-taking. You should ignore all the older reviews because things have been steadily changing and improving at Fitness US since the new owners took over. I generally show up there a half-hour before closing, and stay for an hour beyond. 1 The gym is not dirty and gross. I think maybe it used to be, but there is now one female staff member, whose job appears to be full-time cleaning. She steadily mops the floor, in the locker room and everywhere else. 2. Outdated equipment? Not!! About 3/4 of what they have is now brand-new, installed during the past few months. 3. Treadmill shuts off after 20 minutes? All you have to do is press the time-up button. That has worked for me. 4.Difficulty canceling membership? All I know is I had no problem canceling one of my family members 4 months ago. Did it by phone, in fact. True, it took 2 months for them to stop charging me, but that involved a mere $5 per month additional-member fee.I know other gyms have more space and bigger pools, and I wish Fitness US would change the channel selections on the 4 TVs, but I guess thats up to me to make the request. I like the low cost of membership, and the location close to where I live. Ive belonged to 3 other gyms before this one, and this gym suits me fine. Im giving it 4 stars because I feel Im getting more than my moneys worth.
I went in last night because I was a Fitness USA member before the new ownership. I wasnt impressed with the Fitness USA business model but, since I live a mile away from the facility, wanted to see if the new ownership had improved things. First, I was told by a very harried employee that the old Fitness USA memberships arent honored, and that was just how it is - she was a Fitness USA member and had to deal with it, so that was that. She told me what the membership rate and maintenance fees were and when I asked why the maintenance fee wasnt just incorporated into the regular monthly rate, she got pretty belligerent. I pressed on because the locations convenience to my home was still attractive, so I asked if I could take a quick peek at the equipment. She gave me a liability form to sign, which was actually a blatant mail and email marketing information form. I said I would sign a liability waiver but wasnt willing to just give them my information for their marketing database for just having a look at the equipment. She took the form from me and said have a nice evening in a get the hell out tone of voice. Im an advertising and PR professor and a marketing and communication consultant. Ive never, ever seen a worse business and customer service model in my life. I asked for an owner or managers name and she willingly gave it to me while continuing to be rude. I told her to cut it out with the tone of voice (it was embarrassing) and she told me I had had an attitude since I walked in. I guess asking reasonable questions constitutes having an attitude in the Fitness US customer service model. I tried to call Stephanie today and it went to an answering machine (not voicemail). I decided after reading the other reviews that it was probably going to be a wasted effort to tell them that their blatant money grab isnt a sustainable business model in 2016 when everyone can and will go online to expose it for what it is would fall on deaf ears. Dont go. Run away. There are economically priced gyms all over Lansing that take pride in caring about their members and their fitness goals. I could be wrong, but based on what I know as a professional this place isnt going to be around for very long, so anyone who buys into a contract is risking losing their money in the end.
I really liked this gym. I live super close to it, its cheap, and it has a wide variety of equipment. It was a little cramped, but I usually went late so it was never super busy. I never understood why they only had one locker room, though. Isnt that something you consider when building a gym?-1 star because they closed last week without any notice. Im pretty bummed about it because this gym was perfect for me, but Im NOT driving all the way to Owosso everyday.
Its cheap, close, and 24 hours. I dont ever go during the day, so I cant comment on the staff, fitness programs, or the locker room/pool area. The one thing I do hate is that the treadmills are set to shut off after 20 min. Considering Im usually alone at the gym late at night, I really dont understand this idiocy. I cant imagine that its so bad during the day that you have to physically enforce time limits on adults, and there is no reason this should be done at night. If one of the employees is reading this, please just fix it. There is no reason to keep it up.
Yes, all of us that paid Fitness U.S.A. for a life time membership got screwed out of it. I hope this place closes. Fitness U.S.A. filed bankruptcy- then changed their name to Fitness U.S., blah, blah minus the dots between their technical name, whatever. Close & stop spreading fraud.
I love to workout and I would like to go there and try its out
This place is a dump. Seriously. Was a member for three years and delt with it out of convenience, as it was close to my house. They dick you around with fees, including the infamous maintenance fee they now charge when there is ZERO maintenance preformed. Five times I ran on the same (and only decent) treadmill and it just flat out shut off on me. Thats dangerous. All they do it tape an out of order sign to it. And its not just the cardio stuff, all equipment is garbage. Even after I explained this unacceptable situation to someone on the phone, twice, Im still having a difficult time getting them to stop charging me for my canceled membership. I feel bad for the staff, Ive been told its miserable working there, and you can see that in the high turn over. Hoping this company just flops over and shuts down for all of the terrible business practices Ive seen.
If you like heat stroke, this is the place for you. Since they have the door next to the front desk, the staff turn up the heat until its about 78F in the winter, which is when most folks want indoor workouts. Its only cooler in the summer. And they never open the doors to let fresh air in. They even lied to a workout instructor and told him the ventilation was broken. What a coincidence, its only been broken since they took over. I guess Ill be going back to CourtOne or the Y.
I just had back surgery. Fitness US is refusing to standby training sessions I purchased when it was Fitness USA, so I dont recommend getting any training sessions here ever if you dont want to be throwing away money. On top of that, its impossible to cancel your membership because you have to mail in a form to do so and they just keep mysteriously losing mine and then blaming me for not mailing it certified. The gym itself is gross, rarely cleaned, outdated and you should really just go anywhere else possible.
Staff is very pushy to get you to join. Gym is very outdated compared to other gyms that offer somilar or cheaper prices. The ONLY reason i joined was because they have the pool/sauna/steamroom.....i was not informed when i joined that those areas are NOT 24 hrs, and the gym hours do not work with my schedule. So i have been paying for a year when i have NEVER used the facility, i was planning on just letting the memeership expire since it wouldnt be much cheaper to cancel early early and pay the $100 fee. Sooo i call and find out that the contract is actually 2 years and i still jave another year. Im just going to suck it up and pay the $100 and be done with this horrible business. Big mistake leaving planet fitness for this place.....
I had to write a review bc I had to laugh at Penelopes comment.... IT DEF. IS NOT EASY TO CANCEL. YOU CAN NOT DO IT OVER THE PHONE!!! I tried 3 different times. and they told me I had to come in and grab the paper cancelation form they have and then I couldnt bring it back in I had to MAIL it in. Also it was going to cost me $100 dollars to cancel. When I went in with hopes to sign up I was offered a free workout. I knew the trainer and agreed. We set up a time and I had a great workout with him. During this process tho, I was signing papers to join the gym. which I was under the impression I would be able to cancel if it didnt work out for me. I told them about my kids and how I work close so it will either work out for me because of being close by my work or it wont because I either wont have time to slide over during work and since they dont offer daycare it would be impossible for me to come any other time. with them knowing this, I feel like they needed to stress that what I was signing was a YEAR contract that could only be broken with a CRAZY fee! Because I do have kids I dont have $100 laying around to just hand over to cancel something! (my fault for not reading everything I was signing WHILE I was in the middle of a workout) But wish that when I talked to the owner over at powerhouse gym (their sister location I assume) she was rude and told me that I could cancel as long as I pay the $100 and mail that in. and or pay the remaining balance for the year. which was well over $100 since I called only a month after I signed up. I was also promised that there would be new bulbs for tanning so I thought, If I didnt use the gym that would be ok, because it would be worth it to just run in and tan. But they never got new bulbs and about three months after that I called and asked if they had new bulbs and they said that they still didnt. Im not sure if they do now or not because everytime I try and call they dont answer. so im stuck paying the monthly fee along with the random cleaning fee they charge when I dont even go there. Im in a business where reviews can def. make or break you. and I would never write a bad review unless I was so incredibly dissatisfied. I wish they would have been courteous enough to cancel my membership when I hadnt even been there a month. or work with me on another option.
Does anyone know if they take pre paid cards for or debit cards????
STAFF IS VERY RUDE, BRITTANY AT THE FRANDOR LOCATION IS VERY RUDE NEED NEW STAFF TO MAKE IT A MORE ENJOYABLE GYM.
This is the worst gym ever, they continued to take money out my bank after I canceled, and refused to give me a refund. Then they took 60$ out my bank for one month
