I called for a quote on 3 different AC units. They sent 2 sales people and a technician. They never mentioned a service fee for the technician. Now they are threatening to send my account to collections. Had the fee been mentioned, I would have told them not to come out. I feel cheated. They refuse to work with me, so I want everyone to know how they treat people. My advice is never ask them for a quote.
Stay far FAR away from this place! I was told upfront that I would have to pay an $80 fee for diagnosis to be applied for repair and I agreed. The tech came out and checked the system and diagnosed that I needed the entire system replaced. He said that there was a leak at the reversing valve and the part was $1500. Online the part is actually $23. He said the unit had compressor damage because the pressure on both sides were the same with the compressor turned on. He could NOT have turned on the compressor to check as I had the circuit breaker off at the main panel. He estimated a new unit to cost $10,000 but would get a sales person to contact me. In reality, the problem found by a reputable HVAC company was a leak in a copper tube that just needed to be repaired and then filled with refrigerant. I paid $165 and the unit works fine. I have been asking the company for weeks now for a copy of the diagnosis that I paid for and have never received anything. I asked for a full refund and they refuse to contact me back.***Update***.Well Gerald, seeing as how you have now called me a liar. You are correct about one thing, your service fee was $85, not $80 as I previously stated. I DID attempt to contact your company on multiple occasions, on 4/15, 4/23. 5/3 and 5/12 via email. I email both Noel Granger and John Whitton trying to get a diagnosis as this was what I paid for. I also made telephone calls on 4/15 and 5/3. Would you like copies of the emails and telephone logs? Your tech, Jamal couldnt even get his leak detector functioning properly. He most certainly did claim that it was a reversing valve and then told me that the part alone was $1500 and it wasnt worth fixing our unit and it should just be replaced. I would love to hear how he was able to diagnose a compressor failure with the power turned off at the breaker. I made multiple requests for the diagnosis and have still not received anything in writing with tests performed and the diagnosis. If it really was as you tech stated, then why is my unit functioning fine now after a different company made a simple repair and refilled the refrigerant? If your tech, or other individuals in your organization, are dishonest, then so be it. Thats what reviews are for; so that other people dont get taken advantage of.
I have had a couple of issues with a new unit that was installed by Rocky Top and quiet frankly I would’ve never recommended them to anyone if it wouldn’t have been for Spencer! He just answered an issue quickly that a couple of other service techs have been here to look at and couldn’t figure out what was wrong. He’ll be running the business in no time at all and should be!

We had Rocky Top put in a new gas furnace/AC. Everyone there is really nice, and we have no problem with the work done. But when the weather turned cold, we noticed that the air didnt come out warm like were used to, so we called our salesperson. She said she could get a guy to come out and take a look. I assumed it was just a post-installation visit--she didnt tell us it was going to cost us $85, just to find out that the newer 2-stage furnaces dont blow out as warm air as older furnaces do. Then they quoted us a very pricy maintenance program so we wouldnt have to pay $85 the next time. I think well find another company to call.UPDATE: We received our refund, so Im changing review to 4 stars. I talked to two girls in the office about this issue--I wish it hadnt taken a Google review to get it taken care of.
I have used Rocky Top for NUMEROUS plumbing repairs, namely old leaky copper pipe repairs on our 40 year old house (repaired w/pex). They always get out here quickly to solve the problem. Jim our repair man is courteous and reliable. I wouldnt call anyone else.

Called for a price quote on a draft motor being replaced. This issue was known because I had another company come and diagnose it earlier that day. Rocky top refused to quote with out sending their own tech to diagnose.. sorry rocky top, I’m not going to pay a dispatch/diagnostic fee for you to tell me what I already know. Don’t play games with your customers, just give me a quote. Ended up using Merritt.

The two gentlemen that came to my home from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to perform a home plumbing inspection we’re very professional and knowledgeable. I needed to have my outdoor A/C units disconnected and moved for a pad to be poured. Later the units were put back in place and reconnected. Rocky Tops price was more than half the price less than other contractors in the area. Everybody I dealt with at Rocky Top were great and very helpful. Youll be very happy to have done business with them!

In December of 2020 I contacted RockyTop Air for service at a condo for heating being out. They came out and replaced a thermostat and said this would fix the issue I was having. Soon after this the heat still would not work properly and had them come back out to diagnose what the problem may be and was told it was a bad defrost board that keeps tripping the unit and making it cut off. So I ask them to come out before Christmas so my over night tenants can go without having to deal with cold temperatures for the evening. I was denied and was told a time and day that was far in access to when the tenants checked in, so that would not work. They did tell me a part number and a fix to get the unit back up and running so all I had to do was get a technician to replace the defrost board and I’d be set to go. $580 dollars later I had the defrost board replaced and ready to to go and that wasn’t the problem. I had a neutral party come check out the unit and they informed me that the only reason the unit keeps tripping is because the thermostat is faulty. (This was replaced by RockyTop air all along) Current contractor replaced thermostat and now all is fine. The problem is that Rocky Top didn’t take ownership of a problem that they came up with and made a customer spend almost $800 more to fix something that was as simple as a thermostat. Don’t trust them to know what they are doing, they will guess at your expense and refuse to pay any difference expenses when the problem started with them. Do Not Use This Company!
AC unit went out in our house the same day we closed on it, so we needed someone there quickly. Rocky Top Air finally came through and got to the house. They were even there before us. The guy was super nice and did a good job, but they definitely werent the cheapest company we called. Many told us anywhere from $125-150, and even with a coupon, we were out well over $200 on RTA. But no one else that worked on Trane units could get to us that day. Regardless, as long as money isnt an issue, Id recommend them.
The website states We do not charge a dispatch fee for our team to come out and look at the issue. I called because the fan on my HVAC wasnt working properly. The tech came out and looked and confirmed that it was in fact the fan. He stated that they had straightforward pricing and that it would be $762 unless we signed up for a monthly service that varied from $18-$40 per month. That threw me off guard as I didnt know I would be sold a subscription service and that the procedure would be so expensive to install a $100 part. I told him that I would have to think about it. He packs his tools and then comes back and knocks on the door saying we owe him $85. I asked for what and he replied, To come and look at the problem. Which the website stated would be free. So a dispatch fee is just them driving to your home, getting out of the truck and simply looking at the issue. Not saying anything about it just looking. If they tell you what is wrong with it then they charge the $85. Also, here is what they will show you and expect you to make a decision on in minutes. Look over this before you call them so you can be an informed consumer and not have to pay $85 over semantics.
Spent more than $6K on a Mitsubishi split system. Love the Mitsubishi but very disappointed in the setup for draining the condensate. Its stressfull to always look for dripping water and always listen to make sure the pump is running. Beginning to wonder why we were assured the moisture would drain effectively when it was installed. Expected better for the cost. ☹️
Decided to go with Rocky Top based on all of the positive reviews. Scope of work involved new furnace, AC unit, vent, return relocation, and duct cleaning for a two day job. Day 1 they showed up at 8:45a and sat in the truck until 9:15a before starting work and then left at 3:30p. Day 2 again showed up around 8:45a and didnt start work until 9a but had to work until 6p. They were unprofessional and craftsmanship was very poor. I had to have them come back to wrap up some of the unacceptable items. Would not recommend.
Had the technician come out and tell me that the part thats brand-new that was put on 3 weeks ago was old and bad and simply stated he needed to replace my whole system I had a horrible conversation on the phone with Chris the consumer service manage that would not issue me a refund for my horrible experience and if a technician come out named Chris just know you will be lied to! Wont let me rate zero stars or a would have thanks!

From beginning to end...Rocky Top Air did an outstanding job. We had all the original ductwork replaced in our 1972 home...and relocated the main return to across the hall. All work was in a crawlspace. Michelle came out to assess the project overall...and we discussed in detail what I expected...and how they could meet those needs. In truth, they were my second call. The first place I called quoted me almost $6,000...and planned to use all corrugated duct work from the main line. Michelle understood my desire to have rigid ducts running from the main line to as close as possible to the registers. And her quote saved me 40%. Michelle provided us with a portable A/C unit while the work was performed...which took about 2 days. The workers were outstanding...very professional...and the job was done perfectly to my specifications. Highly recommend the team at Rocky Top Air. Theyre our kind of people.

I had issues with my A/C a year ago and Manny took care of us. Unfortunately, with my A/C being 10 years old I had to call Rocky top again to diagnose my A/C... This time it didnt go well, several hundred dollars later and we still didnt have a working A/C and was told that I may need to spend more or get a new unit at this point I have lost faith at rockytop since we cant seem to figure out whats really going on, is there a leak or not???. I spoke to the service manager and after hearing our story he apologized and sent his best guy (Fred along with Cody) to our home immediately within an hour Fred found the main issue and he not only took care of it, he educated me as well. Fred and Cody is an asset to Rocky Top Air and they are the reason Ill be giving them my maintenance package business. Thank you!!!

Upstairs air unit stopped working called Rocky top Air and they worked me in the same day. Technician called first of his arrival. Once he checked out the unit he explained the problem kept me informed and politely answer my many questions. Definitely have them to do the yearly maintenance.
The two technicians got my heat going quickly. They were very nice and friendly. One thing, however, confused me. I had been out of town and discovered the furnace wasn’t working late the night before. I called Rocky Top at 7:00 am the next morning. They said on the phone that it would be late in the morning before they could get to me. The technicians arrived around 11:00. They said I was their first call! The temp outside was 19 degrees. I don’t understand why the company didn’t help me earlier.
Have used Rocky Top for plumbing issues twice now. I always feel like the employees are friendly and professional. Theyre honest and get the job done quickly. Also, they dispatch someone to address the issue on the same day that I place the service call. Love that!
Appointment was within three hours of calling and tech was on time. He was friendly, outgoing, professional, and prepared. He didnt have the part I needed (water pressure valve) but went to get it and returned within one hour. The price was quoted up front and was reasonable for the service performed. He also replaced an old rotary cutoff valve with a new quarter turn handle valve. Very pleased with the timeliness of service and the quality of the work.

Technician Manny was very thorough! I reported a smoke smell when the ac was on.Manny checked the outside unit and reported that it was functioning properly & very clean. He looked n the duct work and found nothing. Manny went n the crawl space, nothing. Finally Manny went up n the attic and found a kitchen can light covered with insulation. It was hot and probably the origin of the smoke smell.I cant say enough the dedication of Manny to find my smoke problem.The two Rocky Top A/C technicians that came to my house, were both excellent!I highly recommend them!
Ive used Rocky Top Air for close to a decade and they have not been the same since joining One Hour Heating and Air. My most recent experience caused me to write this review and no longer use them. They sent two technicians out (including one senior tech) and they were not able to correctly identify the problem with my unit. I learned from another company that they had contaminated my unit through improper discharge of the freon. I think they knew it when they came out and didnt want to admit they had ruined my unit. Rocky Top blamed my issue on my ductwork, but two separate companies said my ductwork was fine. If youve used Rocky Top in the past, you need to know they are not the same company.
First class,professional technicians!! But what I appreciate the most about this company is their honesty.. I have a 20+yr old unit, and the compressor wasnt running. I didnt have to listen to a 30 minute, high pressure sales pitch. No, they systematically troubleshot the problem down to a simple broken wire and repaired it. Ive dealt with some other companies that wouldnt have even tried. In this day and time, that is remarkable, and I really appreciate it. THANKS ROCKY TOP!!!.

After using Rocky Top Air in the past, I called them a few weeks ago to look at a unit that had not been running while I was out of town. I decided to forgive and forget the missed fall tune-up appointment that I had pre-paid a while back and use the company that I had used in the past. The Technician showed up early and it was raining. He first checked the filter which was OK. We started the unit and he said it needed a little freon but the temperature was too cool to add it but he would add some anyway. I asked if the electrical system seemed to be working correctly. He said the unit started up just fine and he could not check anything more because it was raining. Makes sense... Before he left I asked if he could come back and check the electrical part sometime when it was not raining. He suggested that I call and ask for the $69 tune up special. The service call cost $85. I called the company a few days later to tell them I did not think I got my moneys worth on the service visit since I need to pay $69 more to get electrical system checked. The customer service representative suggested that I call and compare their prices with other companies in the area. I did! Wish I had done that before being a repeat customer of Rocky Top Air. Do as I say, not as I did. Call and ask prices from other companies before being a repeat customer.
We had a great experience with the folks at Rocky Top Air, from scheduling to the service call, and the followup. Manny was efficient and helpful in handling the tune-ups on our two units, and provided feedback on an older unit that was a safety concern to keep running, so recommended replacement due to the age and cost of the repair. We look forward to meeting with Michele and narrowing down a new, more energy-efficient unit along with a modern upgrade to our thermostats. I have used Rocky in the past. They actually installed a new hvac unit at our old house. But now in our new house our home warranty company chose who installed our new unit, Mr. Kool ( do not use them).Anyway after the other company installed the new unit we were unable to close the closet doors in the hallway where the inside portion was (its a split unit in our new house), the condensate pump ran continuously, and it was dripping from the coolant line, also it just looked like a hot mess.So I made an appointment with Rocky Top and Michael came out. He was literally here for maybe 15 minutes, but immediately told me that I needed to call my home warranty company and get this fixed through them. Michael gave me a detailed list of what was wrong and what I needed to ask for to be fixed. I am so thankful that I called because I am not a hands on type of guy when it comes to this stuff. I just new it didnt look right and wanted an honest opinion. He could have said that he would fix it, which I would have happily done, but he insisted that I get the other company to fix it since it would cost about $1000 for them to resolve the problems.Basically I paid Rocky Top $85 for an expert opinion... it was the best $85 that I have spent this year. I love Rocky Top Air. I had been having my heating and air conditioning unit serviced by another company for many years. But I began feeling like the level of service wasnt what it should have been. What facilitated the change was that this company had done some repair work on my A/C unit. A few days later the unit stopped working. They came back and made some more repairs. A few days later it stopped working again and they came out and made some more repairs. But this time they said that I probably needed a new unit which would cost me about $7000. I immediately called Rocky Top Air, honestly just because of the name. And they sent Fred out. Fred is amazing. From the start I felt more comfortable because he was explaining to me what he was doing and why. Turns out that I didnt need a new unit, but it was something simple. It cost me literally a fraction of what the other company was trying to charge me. Thanks Rocky Top!!! I plan to be a loyal customer for life.

I dont think some of your sales people understand what listening is. You just lost 10 grand in business from me. When I asked for certain things in a quote I dont expect things to get added because the sales rep decided to add them with out asking. I also dont appreciate trying to be upsold on things that I specifically said I didnt want and they were added anyway. The sales person came out on a sat and showed up when said she would that is the only reason its 2 star. I dont care about a $500 discount when what I asked for didnt get done. First impression is terrible from a business stand point.
I hired Rocky Top Air to install a Generac standby generator in my home. A friend of mine had used them and highly recommended them. Phil Miller and his crew of competent mechanics installed the electric and gas piping in one day and did a most satisfactory installation. I rate their performance with five stars and would recommend them highly.
The sales lady was punctual and knowledgeable. Everything in the process occurred just as she said it would. The gentlemen who installed the duct work and package unit were pleasant and courteous and did a good job. I would recommend Rocky Top Air to anyone who is building or needs to replace their heat and air units.

Great service once again. I call for service, the tech comes and fixes the problem, and then Ive got a cool house again. These folks are friendly, fast and clean (I love the booties they put on before coming through the house). Best of all, you get all that service for a reasonable price.

Service was fast and the problem was fixed. Bought the service plan. A few months later some other part needed to be replaced. Service plan paid most of the cost. Almost paid for the service plan.

I am a senior citizen and have been using Rocky Top Air for years as I have the service contract with them. they come out and check my aging units both heat and air..and do a great job .they are on time and very efficient in their knowledge of my units! they do not try to upsell you more than you can afford. and on this date April 9,2015 Fred sat down with me in detail giving me tips on running my AC that I never knew. They were able to take care of everything in a timely manner. Kyle came out and got the air back up and running in about an hour.
We called to report a leak in the furnace room, and Fred came to the house about an hour after our call. He quickly fixed the problem (a hose was not connected), and took the time to ensure we knew how to set and use the new thermostat. He explained our options to maximize efficiency and comfort with the new system, and we gained useful information. All in all, we love Rocky Tops service, and this service call was another excellent experience.

Rocky Top Air was wonderful on cleaning my air conditioner. We just moved in to our home and wanted to make sure it was in awesome working order. Coming from a contractor family, Rocky Top advised me every step they were doing before it was done. A-1 rating!!!! Thank you Rocky Top!!!!!
Called them to check AC unit on the roof of a commercial building. Got a serviceman in a couple hours at my place. Went on roof right behind him, in less then 10min something starts sparking and AC quit working. Was told it’s a gas module need to be replaced. Ok. After I saw, decided to call someone with personal references and found out the whole unit is busted. Including the module and burned fuses and wiring. 9500$ and 2 month later they sent me invoice for their service. They don’t care it was incorrect diagnostic, don’t care how much you spent to fix after their “specialists”, don’t care if you satisfy with their service. Just pay or we will turn it into the collection. That’s exactly what I was told on the phone.
I had my heating and cooling system installed by Rocky Top and continue to receive their service plan. Their service technicians are prompt, polite, and very knowledgeable. They make sure my system is running efficiently and they make suggestions on how to adjust my usage to save money. Im very pleased with their work.
I had a tune up for my heating/air units today from Larry. He was extremely helpful and knowledgable. He listened to my questions and answered every single one of them. I feel like he went above and beyond, and he didnt rush through everything like he had somewhere else to be. I really appreciated him and his help.

Had a few runs in with the company on fixing our ac unit. First guy kinda rigged a temporary fix till he could get back out. He had a wire running out of the ac outside then through a window and to the thermostat inside, kept falling off the way and my roommates would trip over it. Next guy didnt even call, just showed up and left when the door was locked, when I was about 5 minute away at my work ready to let him in. Then Fred, called when he was on the way, seemed very knowledgeable and figure out the problem in about 5 minutes. Im sure the other technicians are good too but super impressed with Fred. Id request him if you are contacting Rocky Top Air.

This is a great company! Even though I was nor an existing customer, they came right out to fix my problem (within 3 hours). The technician explained everything and answered every question.
My unit had been acting strange for about less than a year we had another company come out to do maintenance on it and was told nothing was wrong even though it was acting up. Today I woke up and my unit outside stopped working and was getting very hot around 78. I called and they were on it. Came with in less than an hour and fixed the problem that should have been caught when the other company had come out. Will probably never use anyone els besides Rocky Top now!
