A decent complex to live, although I do feel as though management could be a little more organized. The office staff is always friendly and helpful. I spoke with Leslie multiple times snd she always answers my questions and helps me with my maintenance request!
The apartment complex is not a bad place to live & be. The move in process here was very smooth & fast with no complications. The office team is very nice, friendly, and do have some people on the team that care for you & will help you to the best of their ability. The only thing I didnt like was my apartment had a strong dog oder from the previous resident that was living here, and the corner & edges of my room are dusty/dirty. No sure if it was mold mixed in cant really tell. Also the A/C works better down stairs than up stairs for some reason so it can get hot upstairs. But thats something that can easily be fixed. Besides from that its not bad at all.
Honestly, the 1 star goes to the maintenence team (meaning they are amazing and better at their jobs than any of the other incompetent workers there).I would give the rest 0 if I were able. The management at this complex is so incredibly terrible. During the winter storm that terrorized much of the south, and hit Texas especially hard, my townhome was unfortunately one of the casualties.Tuesday, the 16th of February, my roommate came home to find a pipe behind my bathroom upstairs burst and flooded the entire downstairs and my bathroom. She let me know and we both made concerted efforts through the day to alert our complex to the issue. The response was underwhelming and we felt as though the severity of our situation wasnt being seen. Let me just say that our entire downstairs had been covered in a good inch of water. Obviously the management isnt the cause of the winter storm, nor did they come into my apartment and rip open my pipes then leave so it would flood. The flood isnt my issue. The handling of the aftermath is where things get absolutely terrible. About 2 days after the incident and the initial reports I got a text from the complex that our water would be turned back on. Immediately I responded and asked if our pipe had been fixed, and then proceeded to follow up with a phone call where i was told that they didnt know what i was talking about and that if a pipe burst out water shouldnt be back on. I agreed and then asked her to turn it off completely before more damage was done to any of the unit. I was informed that water was turned off again for just my unit this time. At this point my roommate and I realized that, despite having responses from them and reporting our burst and flood, nothing had been done about it and they didnt realize the severity of our situation. My roommate and I both asked over and over again where we would be moved or where we would stay because our unit was uninhabitable and severely impaired. We never got a response or a good answer as to what would be done for the long term or even the short term. We were, in fact, told that our issue wasnt severe and it was a simple fix and that despite our apartment being uninhabitable, and now a construction zone, we would be expected to stay there because they had other people who needed places to stay. It was at this time we decided to look over our lease and begin the process of getting out of it. This process has been so frustrating to the point where both my roommate and I are seeking out attorneys to possibly take our issue to court. The incompetence and truthfully disgusting treatment of many of the residents is why I would NEVER recommend this apartment to anyone. These werent even the first issues we had with the management being incompetent and greedy.Added pictures are of the damage and the continued appearance of the apartment weeks after the initial flood!Update: They let me out of my lease after 3 months of threatening lawsuits and having no communication. I stand by truly believing this is the absolute worst place to live in Huntsville and I will continue to actively steer people away from it until the day I die.
1879 is an amazing place to live. The staff is always friendly and ready to help at all times. The maintenance team is always quick to respond to any issues that I have. The rooms are also very spacious. Thank you so much 1879 for providing a great place to call home!
It’s not a bad place to live the rent is pretty low. The maintenance is really slow and sometimes they don’t even come when you request them. It’s close to campus and parking isn’t ever really an issue. Besides the maintenance thing everything else is decent.
I have lived here for a year and I would recommend it. Best price hands down in Huntsville. I will admit that I had multiple maintenance issues, (dishwasher, a/c, washer/dryer) but they were all resolved within a few days. The staff is very friendly and the amenities are great. The shuttle is very convenient, and even though it is down sometimes due to maintenance, the staff still makes sure you get to campus if you need a ride. They also have tons of fun events like pool parties, Taco Tuesdays, and happy hours. My bike was stolen off my porch, but thats my fault for not locking it up.
One of the worse apartment complexes ever!!!! They have broken many items of their own lease agreement. We are almost four months from freeze and no work has been done on apartment unit IMy daughter leased, it is still just studs. They finally moved her to another unit that is cheaper than my original unit, but are charging more than people currently living there. They let strangers inside apartment without informing anyone. One time we came back to find the apartment wide open with no one on site, contractors finally came back two hours later. She has lived in the middle of construction in the temporary apartment for months (carpet raised, Sheetrock dust everywhere, moldings off the walls). The property manager never seems to have answers. Such a headache with this complex. I understand people are busy, but to have their tenants living in chaos is ridiculous. Corporate will never answer emails or calls, but the one time they did they just referred us back to property/leasing manager. Do yourself a favor and avoid this complex.
I have lived here for 3 years and absolutely have loved every minute of it! The community here has such a great energy, and I am always greeted with smiles when walking around the property. But my favorite part is the super spacious dog park! My dogs are so happy having all that space to run around with their dog friends!
Our son was supposed to move into these apartments before his sophomore year...DO NOT SIGN ANY LEASE HERE. The apartments are disgusting and full of mold and his apartment was not clean AT ALL when it was his move-in day. There was debris and junk everywhere from water damage in his apartment (which was he was switched to at the last minute the morning he was scheduled to move in). Haley the office manager was nowhere to be found and the front office and entire apartment complex appears to be run by unprofessional college kids who dont take their job seriously and dont care AT ALL about professionalism, cleanliness or following through on their word. DO NOT SIGN A LEASE HERE! RENTER BEWARE!
The complex is beautiful and has fair rates. They really do try to help you get the best deals. Cale, staff member, was very attentive and helpful with making all the arrangements and keeping me consistently updated; he genuinely wants to help. Thank you. Look forward to continuing business here.
I was a resident for the 2020-2021 year.Starting out, the rate I signed last year of $425 was the best offer that I could find for a 4x4 unit. I came in signing with 3 of my friends and we were all expecting to get that same $425 rate. One of my friends had issues with his lease but was told he would get the deal and got the issues fixed a few weeks later and was told the rate of $425 was not available and was going to have to sign above $500 for his rate. The next thing that happened was two days before we moved in we got a call that our unit that we were assigned would not be ready to move in and they would be moving us to a new unit which was fine. We got a call the day of move-in telling us that our unit wouldnt be ready exactly at move-in around 11AM for us and was told it would only be a few hours to get everything finished. Some of my roommates did not live close to Huntsville though and were stuck waiting to move in. 11AM turned into 5PM, which turned into 7PM, which turned into almost 10PM for us.After moving in at 10PM, I came to find out that I didnt have a bed frame, all of us didnt have desks or chairs, and we were missing our living room couch. We didnt end up getting almost all of this for a month so I was stuck sleeping on the floor for a month straight. All we got for compensation after weeks of arguing was $50 each and that was hard to get. After all of that, things were fine for a while until the freeze happened. A lot of apartments here were flooded and basically destroyed from the freeze and the apartment complex basically told the residents who were flooded out, Best of luck and didnt provide them with any housing or assistance and they had to still pay rent from what I heard. In one of my friends apartments, their washer broke and proceeded to flood the bottom floor of their apartment. They did quickly get all the carpet and damaged areas replaced which is good. A few weeks later though, someone I know of had their washer go out and the apartment complex then decided to replace the broken washer with the same one that flooded my other friends apartment a few weeks prior. After they replaced it, that same washer went and flooded that persons apartment too.Recently, we have had a bit of a roach issue in my apartment and have been having pest control come out week after week spraying to try and get it fixed. This is week 5 now of spraying my apartment and the pest control guy has told me for weeks that they need to spray an actisol treatment to get rid of the roaches. I have told the front desk this multiple times, have been told by workers at the front that they have that down for me and it will be taken care of and it hasnt been. I thought the pest control person just forgot to do it the past few weeks but it turns out the management just wont go and pay for the treatment. The pest control guy told me his manager spoke to the complex to do the treatment and the complex managers have told them that they will not be doing it because it costs too much and will only spray. The pest control guy has told me this is a very common thing with the complex with any pest control. Instead of the apartment complex spending a little bit more money on the treatment and getting it dealt with, they always go with the cheapest route. I talked to a manager about it and they said that it may take two treatments of “actisol” to get rid of the roaches completely, but the problem is still persisting after 5 sprays, so arent 2 treatments better than 5+?The regular employees that work here are always super nice and that’s why I’m giving this complex 2 stars and not 1. With all these problems and sending me renewal offers of $480 which is a bump up and more expensive than some of the nicest apartments in town, I had no reason to stay here. Ive shown my apartment here to family and theyve called it, a literal dump, compared to my new apartment. Be very cautious about living here.
Update: Response.First of all I had to pay rent until management and corporate figured it out. It was not offered outright by your complex. Secondly when I signed for the flat for the 2020-2021 semester the rate going for the townhouses were $435 not $450. I stated this to Shelby however she kept saying that was wrong even when I had the proof. Thirdly the apartment y’all moved me to was not the type of apartment I rented and it was extremely dirty when I moved in. There was hair everywhere including the sinks, slime in the tub, carpets had layers of dirt, walls had holes. I had issues after issues after moving in to this unit. Some of these issues ranged from a second flood, sinks overflowing, air conditioning unit broke down multiple times, and people walking in and out of my apartment with no warning. These contractors had keys to apartments and the office would never warn us they were coming in to my apartment. This was not an emergency type of situation because that I could understand, this was after living with raised carpet, missing moldings, and Sheetrock dust everywhere.Sign literally anywhere but here. We are almost four months from the freeze that happened in February and no work has been done on the apartment unit I leased. The apartment is still just studs. Almost all of building 21 is destroyed but still do not have a contract to get started. They moved me to a temporary unit but this was after me going back and forth with management to find me a place. If it was up to them I would be sleeping in the leasing office because as I was told that was the “only” space available. The temporary unit I was finally placed in had flooded a few days before I moved in. They let strangers inside apartment without informing anyone. One time I came back to find the apartment wide open with no one in site. I have lived in the middle of construction in my temporary unit for months (carpet raised, Sheetrock dust everywhere, moldings off the walls). The property manager Shelby never seems to have any answers. There were a few times that she did not even know who was inside my apartment . When I called and asked when they will be done Shelby respond with I did not even know construction workers were in the complex. This apartment has been such a headache. I understand people are busy, but to have their tenants living in chaos is ridiculous. Corporate will never answer emails or calls, but the one time they did they just referred us back to property/leasing manager. It seems like Shelby never has any idea what is happening with the complex she is supposed to be running. Do yourself a favor and avoid this complex at all cost.
Most of these good reviews are from people who don’t even live there. The prices are good but the rooms are super small and falling apart. The apartment manager,Shelby is the worst too. Doesn’t care about the residents at all no matter what situation they’re in. She ignores residents when they come in and call about serious problems. She tells her employees to tell whoever calls that she’s in a meeting every time so that she doesn’t have to deal with the issues. I don’t get why you become an apartment manager if you don’t care about the residents.
The management has definitely improved over the year and they try their best to give their residents. The units definitely need some improve. Overall a decent complex.
Amazing staff and customer service! Halea, Alex and Shelby are so nice! 10/10 recommend to live here.
Super sweet people in the front office, and a spacious living area! The management team is absolutely amazing, and maintenance team works fast!
Essentially you get what you pay for! they have decent sized rooms and nice amenities, good for college sized budget! puts on great community events to emphasize on the community feel within the complex.
Horrible apartment that will screw you over more ways than you can imagine. Are you allergic to animals? Well good luck signing here. Even if you tell the apartment before you sign your lease that you’re allergic to animals they will still give you a roomate with a cat and claim they cannot do anything about it. Oh and the CA’s? useless.
This has been by the best place i have lived! The Maintenance team are rockstars, any issue that comes about or something breaks suddenly, they are there to fix it asap! They are professional and quick to fix the problem! The community is absolutely beautiful, my favorite part is the pool and gym. I spend most of my time hanging out in the hammocks or sweating it out at the gym!OVerall I highly recommend signing a lease here! You will not regret it!
This apartment complex is chill and the workers seem cool tbh but idk rate 6/10
Great place with amazing staff! Always there to help out and great amenities!
Great price for 1x1 bedroom, modern, close to campus, great amenities!!
I toured 18 seventy nine on 5/20 with marissa! she was extremely nice throughout the tour and answered all of my questions! i won’t be staying at these apartments because they’re too far from shsu for me. nonetheless these apartments are great and so spacious!!
The staff is amazing and has helped me through my endeavors. They’re so enthusiastic about what they do and strive for the betterment of the community! One of the main reasons I renew every year!
The rooms are spacious for the price and the workers are very friendly, but that is about all thats good about this place. The buildings are disgusting and everything seems to fall apart and break. I know that this place has eye catching prices, but dont fall for it. You will be much more satisfied living anywhere else other than at 18 seventy-nine. The management must have told the employees to write a bunch of 5 star reviews because something is not adding up.
This place is awesome and in a very convenient location. The complex is always clean and when I walk into the main lobby I am always greeted by a friendly face. If you ever need assistance with anything Tucker is your man!
The management and leasing staff are always super helpful. This is only my first year here and I can’t imagine living anywhere else. Would heavily recommend this to anyone looking for a place to live.
03/11/2021 they’re at Humphery’s bar giving out free drinks for good reviews. None of these people have stayed here. Don’t be fooled. Look at the dates of the good reviews.
Katy is super welcoming & has helped answer any questions i’ve had!
1879 is one of the best places I ever stayed at. Prices are affordable, thaw staff members are nice, and I am very happy that they have a basketball court.
This year has been great - everyone has been so sweet and helpful. I highly recommend living here if you are looking for something that is friendly to your pocket.
The staff is so sweet and their prices are so affordable especially for the size and quality apartment/townhouse you receive! They are always holding events and giveaways for their residents, which is amazing! After one tour I fell in love instantly!
Lowest prices I have found. Good people
Love all the community events they do and love hanging by the pool with my friends!
Im ending my second lease term with 18 Seventy Nine and it has been great. Maintenance is readily available to help and the units are spacious. Ive never had a major problem here. Id absolutely recommend living here if you want an affordable place to stay near SHSU!
Maintenance is always readily available and happy to help fix the situation! The community has so much green space which I love. The staff has been helpful and courteous to any issues that have arrived.
Staff is super friendly also talked to tucker over the phone and he had all the answers to my questions about resigning a lease. I ended up resigning a lease after I highly recommended!
Worst apartment ever! Do yourself a favor and don’t move here. They still haven’t fixed flooded apartments.
I love 18 Seventy Nine!! Front office always has fast service and are super friendly! Maintenance always comes when we need them!! Would highly recommend living here! Their pool is gorgeous and their volleyball court is perfect for games
Great place, people, etc. Just found my apartment messy when I moved in
I really enjoyed my tour at 1879! I toured with Halea and she was so helpful and informative.
The staff is amazing! They are very knowledgeable and helpful. 18 Seventy-Nine is a 5 out of 5!
Beautiful place to live and very affordable! The maintenance staff is great and the office staff is very compassionate and accommodating. 10/10 would recommend.
Good rates! I’m enjoying my lease and would recommend anyone to stay!
It is an average apartment, you get what you pay for. Won’t be resigning.
Great place to live! Very clean and helpful 10/10
I am rating 18 Seventy Nine 5 stars. I have loved living here so far and I do plan on renewing for another year here. Maintenance has been very good to us here! The lock on my door messed up and within 20 minutes of calling them (a few hours before their office opened) one of the maintenance guys was there to fix my door! They have helped me immensely and I cannot wait to see what the future holds living at 18 Seventy Nine.
I have enjoyed my stay here for the past year and have recently renewed. I love that the townhome is not like an actual apartment and makes me feel like I am more at home when I am away from home at school.
Marissa is literally such a sweet heart she helped me with any questions I had! I also love this apartment complex so much. I have a sense of safety here and immediately felt at home!
Everyone in the office has been super friendly and helpful. I have enjoyed my year here so far and can’t wait to continue my time here
My first apartment and i love it.This is a really great place to live. The town homes are so big and spacious, they have walk-in closets.I’m having a wonderful time here!
I have had bad experience after bad experience since I moved into this place. When I first moved in, my unit was dirty, the microwave was dirty, there were sticky stains in the cabinets, and there was pet hair everywhere. Shortly after, my a/c was out for almost 3 weeks before it was repaired. Don’t get me started on the mold. It’s an on going situation that they refuse to properly repair. I never leave reviews, but I this has been a horrible experience.
This a really great place being my first apartment experience! The space is great and the appliances work as well as if it was modern technology. I’m having a wonderful time here!
I just signed my first lease with 1879 and they have made the process so incredibly easy. Matt and Tucker answered all of my questions accurately and with charm, (and I had a lot of them). The staff is super attentive and is able to work with you on any issues that may arise!
Had a great tour at 1879. Can’t wait to be a part of the community.
Update: I was able to speak with the apartment complex manager who has since seen to it that all of the issues with my daughters apartment have been fixed. I appreciate her apology and professionalism. Changed my rating from a 1 star to 3 stars._____________________My daughter just moved into 18 Seventy-Nine Apartments. The leasing office makes it easy to go through the process of securing an apartment and is quite helpful throughout the process. Once the lease is signed, however, the service levels are poor.Upon move-in date, we found the bedroom carpets dirty in the room and closet. The rooms ceiling fan was not mounted on the bedroom ceiling but found propped up in the shower. The bathroom was missing a shower rod and the towel rack was laying on the counter. The living room ceiling has a water damage stain on it.Emails and calls to the leasing office go unanswered. When contacting the resident services number and the main number of the parent company, Waypoint Real Estate Investment, the call is directed to voicemail. Not the best start to a lease.
There is a lot of group events and the management are really nice. Also, there’s A LOT OF PARKING which is really nice. Not bad for a first apartment.
Honestly? ac is iffy at best (it wont hold a temperature ever), ive been overcharged for electric bills, i have maintenance requests from august that were not filled correctly so i gave up (my toilet is broken), i did for a week wash my clothes in my tub, but my room is big and you get what you pay for. also one girl in the front office is rude to be every time i come in.... not re-signing(oh and for when they say to talk to the front office? i have, many times. i don’t bother anymore, nothing ever gets done)
Biggest apartments for the lowest rate in Huntsville! Very roomy, fast maintenance, and great staff! I have loved living here the past 2 years!
Staff is extremely nice and it seems as of recently the office has become exceptionally organized. Quick response to issues, the previous reviews seem inaccurate.
Please for the love of god dont live here. Youre better off spending just a little bit more for housing than being with these people. Their staff is terrible, they dont listen to any of your complaints and their hallways are always filthy and covered in garbage. Save yourself the headache and go live anywhere else.
The people here are great bills are with rent with a $30 cap on electricity. Just re signed next years lease!
This place is amazing! Lived here for 2 years and will be staying here another! The staff makes sure all needs are taken care of. I definitely recommend this place!
I love living here! The employees and management have gone above and beyond multiple times to help make living here an enjoyable experience! Theyve communicated with us well through email when the shuttle has been down or when there are events going on! The facilities are always clean and maintained well too. Maintenance always comes super fast and the maintenance guys are always super helpful and kind. Its a very relaxed place to live and I never feel unsafe either.
It’s my first year in an apartment and I love my experience. They are quick with scheduling maintenance and they host a lot of events.
Management is alright but is a good living experience. Pricing is better than most places!
18 seventy nine was the my first and only apartment complex and it was overall a pretty good experience there were lots of events and i always had my answers answered
1879 is such an awesome apartment 10/10 recommend!
The bathroom and closets are spacious. The maintenance comes to fix things fairly quickly, however there was couple things that needed to be fixed right after move in
I’ve lived here since the beginning of the fall and I’ve really enjoyed it! My roommate matching worked perfectly and I couldn’t be happier with them!
First apartment at Sam and super happy maintenance staff is wonderful and so are the people in the front despite all the bad reviews good place to live
Good prices for the living space and really nice staff
These apartments are awesome! The staff is so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend living here!
It’s a good place to live while you’re a student at Sam Houston. It’s puppy friendly and the leasing office works with you a lot. They host a lot of events for students as well.
This is a good place to live for the price, but maintenance isn’t the best especially depending on what unit you get. Pretty good for a place that’s mostly student living though.
This is a great residential community to live at. It it always quiet and the staff here are friendly and always there to help residents. I love the 24 hour computer lab and programs they have throughout the year! You should live here if you’re looking for a safe community and an affordable place to stay.
This is my first year living here and I am having an amazing experience. The staff members are very nice and helpful. The apartment has a very pretty pool, 24 hr gym and computer lab! My room is very spacious and so is the entire apartment. I love it!
Really affordable apartment complex for students! The staff is really friendly and really works hard to make it feel like home!
This has to be the worst management I have ever witnessed and heard about. This apartment is a sketchy place that are constantly changing their rates. Horrible communication. Feed you a lot of lies like about rent rates and deals. The rate was $490 as promised but raised the price to $515. I am telling you this apartment is not worth 450. horrible Ac set up for the upstairs in the town homes. Said their was going to be a smart TV but instead a regular TV. Maintenance takes forever to finish the work orders that I requested. In the beginning of the lease everything was not working properly like the dryers and AC and fans for stove. everything is outdated that is why its called 1879. The staff are rude and never try to resolve the problem but tell you sorry. If you want a horrible experience of your life please sign a lease. Your better off living under the bridge.
I love living in the 4bedroom town home its super spacious. The property has a lot of greenery making it perfect for doggies! Parking is also a major plus towing wont happen unless youre parked in a covered parking and you arent paying for it.
This complex is amazing! My apartment was in perfect condition when I moved in and Im so happy that I chose to live here!
Such a great apartment complex. They have these great activities for the tenants!
The value for the price is unbeatable. I’ve lived here for 2 years and never had a big problem
Friendly office staff and nice for the price!
Super cute townhouses with really good prices. Office is always helpful!
The rent for the apartments is really cheap is you sign a lease early!:) the staff at the front office are always available when you have questions. The only downside is the maintenance crew are not good at solving your problems:/
Wish they would fix what got ruined from the winter storm. they say they have started but there are absolutely no workers there. ever.
Barely my first semester living off campus and I already renewed my lease! I love 1879, workers are nice, maintenance workers always are fast with request, area is always clean, no tow aways when I have guest over. Overall a really good community to live in and one of the best prices in the market!
Super clean, friendly staff and engaging complex! Apartment insides are up to date and super cute! Great rates and can’t beat a free shuttle! Definitely would recommend and I did!!
Very nice! Love love place the apartments are nice especially for the price!
I really like living here!! It’s quiet and the people in the office are super nice. The only problem is this past semester the shuttles broke often but they were really good at sending emails and updates about it. And even getting a replacement shuttle when it was needed.
I’ve enjoyed my time at 18 Seventy-Nine thus far— the atmosphere is pleasant, the apartment is cute, and my roommates are lovely.
Really nice people and amenities, quick response times to maintenance issues!
My experience at 1879 was really great! I lived in the 4 bedroom townhome. It was a large bedroom fully furnished with a desk!!! It also had a large walk in closet but by far my favorite thing was that everyone got their privacy we all had our own rooms and bath rooms. I enjoyed the time I live thereI would definitely recommend leasing there
Excellent staff! Darian is great to work with and super responsive.
This is my second year living at 1879. I would have to say that the management is getting way better and so is the maintenance people. It is a good place to live for its price.
The staff is phenomenal! So much personality and life!
Very dog friendly constantly hosting fun events and great parking!
Great apartments. Fairly close to campus too
