I love this gym - very clean, plenty of equipment, friendly staff, and some of the best locker rooms I’ve ever seen. Plenty of amenities like hair dryers, shampoo, shower gel, razors, mouth wash, towels, etc. The group fitness classes are fun and the personal trainers are excellent. Great spot to work out!

Love the Met. They make an effort to plan out great activities for kids, like monkey bingo. The fitness equipment is always in top condition and the womens locker room is spotless. Parking can be a problem depending on what time you come in. Overall, this is a great gym in downtown Houston.

If you wish to cancel your membership only go in person. They will ignore your email or voice mail for months and then bill you for the interim period. They are attempting to extort me for $300. My wife died in December and I explained that the time required to handle her affairs prohibited me from using the club. What is left to be said?

This place continues to be a disappointment. About once a month they decide to arbitrarily close the place with ZERO notifications or communication to its members! Which means people show up to a locked door with absolutely no explanation. How hard is it to write a two sentence email and let your members know what youre doing?! Absolutely ridiculous.

Mi
Review №26

Be careful if you join. They have some good instructors, but the class schedules are unpredictable. From time to time, there are some issues with the locker room. They raise dues without notice and make it very difficult to resign, including having to fill out the paperwork in person in front of staff. They also impose a notice period that is not in the paperwork.

The ability to play tennis essentially whenever I want is amazing. The difficulty of finding a good court in the city is surprisingly hard, especially with random weather events. The gym has everything you need as well, is never packed with people, and parking is super easy. The membership price for 2 people is very reasonable for the service that is provided here.

Attended this gym for a year. All in all, I was pleased with what I got for the money. The staff is awesome, youll meet a bunch of great members, there was mostly always cucumber, strawberry or another type of infused water on tap, the basketball court gets a lot of action early weekday mornings and Saturday mornings, it is not over crowded as compared to other gyms and the machines and free weights are in excellent condition. They have ongoing events throughout the months for various non-workout things. Its the type of gym you can go to and sit, grab a meal/beer, watch the game and chat it up with your friends/acquaintances (although I never did this, I always saw others doing it). The only negative things I can think of is that people dont rack their weights. I am not sure if it is a wealthy entitlement thing or other, but it was a heartbreaking to see hardworking older women in the evenings clean and rack the weights of perfectly capable human beings. The building itself is older, but you wouldnt really notice it except for the locker rooms. The locker room staff are super cool and work hard. If anything, I would advise the owners/company to at least renovate the locker rooms asap, as this would up the appeal x2.

Review №41

This is one of the friendliest gyms with the kindest staff. They have amazing group exercise classes in addition to the regular gym and it’s never so busy you have to fight for a spot on the equipment. Unlike most gyms, they do a great job keeping equipment and machines in working order. If anything breaks it’s fixed or replaced very quickly. They also do a great job keeping everything tidy and clean. In addition to the fitness side of the Downtown club, they have a delicious Friday members lunch and the friendliest bartender (Cleveland) in town. There are some reviews where people squawk at the price, but when you consider you only have to pay for one membership for your entire family, it’s actually very reasonable...especially for what you get. The Downtown Club is the best!

If I could give this place zero stars I would. First beware of the features you actually have access too - many are paid even with what used to be their high tier ONE membership! Extremely unresponsive to any requests for info or help even when you are there in person!Over and above that, they slowly add random things onto your bill, including a fee for using a credit card. Then magically they lose the autopay credit card and will bug you incessantly (I was out of the country and told them that) and then cancel your membership and send collections after you anyways before sending you a method to pay (since they cancelled the account and you can’t use the online system). The manager is MiA and unresponsive and their corporate offices are less than helpful! Absolutely abhorrent club! At least in Houston the only thing they are useful for is their parking location!I guess the one star is a handful of their trainers and Cleveland

I take tennis lessons and clinics here. Great alternative, they are indoors courts when weather is bad. Only cons is, their AC does not work during the winter months, it’s an oven in there and you see stars. The other is, parking garage is awful, people drive fast, they are ON your tail, and seems like everyone owns a truck in the garage. It makes parking impossible on top of extremely tight parking spots. NEW CARS,... pray you don’t receive a door ding!! 😬 Plan EXTRA time to park and calm your nerves!!

An Athletic Membership is about $200 a month. The Facility is a dump. The club doesnt keep the appointments it schedules with you. Private lessons are about $20 more than other gyms. Eating at their cafeteria will cost you $25 (including meal, drink, taxes, and tip). I understand the expense if you get your moneys worth but one does not, look elsewhere for your health needs.

The MET is almost done with the renovation they started last year. It is reaaly looking great. The MET has several tennis and quash courts, a basketball court, a multipurpose hall with standing bags as well as rooms where you can do yoga, spin, or row. The MET also has a lot of different fitness equipment/machines. The new locker rooms and showers will have a steam room and a sauna. To top it off, the MEY has a nice good sized lounge with friendly staff.
