This is the 2nd time the infant toddler swim class has been cancelled at the time of of the class due to thunder and lightning. There is no lightning and no thunder shown on the photo attached. The swimming pool at this YMCA is only outside so if there is thunder, members are not allowed into the pool. It seems like a child made the ultimate decision to cancel the class as that young teen at the front desk was the one who told me with no apology that cancelled classes will not be made up.Also claims from this YMCA that renovations will be completed by September are ways to con new members to sign up as monthly members. I spoke to a YMCA representative and the construction only just went underway. Yes, the representatives here are informative and helpful, but this YMCA is unreliable. Although they don’t switch swim instructors here that often within the same program, you might fare better at the nearest pengu swim location, mainly because they don’t have instructors returning to high school and have indoor pools.
Used to be a neighborhood friendly gym to actually better yourself. Now the staff could care less about that. Feels more like a box gym now (Gold’s, Planet Fitness) etc. Bunch of young kids come in and hold stations for 45 mins + while sitting on their phones, taking pictures. The weight room attendants (“trainers”) don’t say anything about it. But when it’s time to close they are prompt to inform you to finish and leave quickly. Hands down won’t ever come to this Y again. The other Y’s in the area are much better run. If I could give less than 1 star I would.
Its an excellent place for Bible study for men on Thursday morning 6:30 to 7:30 and women Bible study at 5 p.m. call YMCA are men and womens Bible study for information😇🙏 and other activities
I have been a member of this YMCA for almost twenty years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. They really give one a family feel. Love their classes.
Im disappointed on the information I was giving by the life guard wensday morning that pool would open for swimming Saturday by the life guard..well it was open when I show up.why I was giving the the wrong information I just no why..just wasted my time..I hole management reposable, on this misinformation..a U.S.ARMY disable Veteran
We are seniors and we are aware of staying healthy as a way to maintain our quality of life as we age. We see regular exercise as a way to stay healthy. The Y has anything we could possibly need to do any exercise we could possibly want. The Y is affordable to us on our fixed income. Foster is close to where we live, so convenient. The staff is always friendly and helpful. When the weather in Houston is not even healthy to walk in, we are glad we belong to the Y so we can be consistent with our exercise. It is a real jewel!
We have really enjoyed our sons swim lessons this summer at the Foster Family YMCA. He has been in lessons almost all summer, mostly because every time his two-week session would end, he would tell me he wanted to sign up again for the next two-week session; this is from a kid who at the start of the summer had almost no desire to learn how to swim, and now he cant get enough of it! Weve had four different swim coaches over the course of the summer and all have been excellent. They really understand how to interact with kids and have increased his swimming skills dramatically in a short amount of time. Ive been impressed with the professionalism and dedication of all of the swim coaches and lifeguards. All in all, we are very happy to have joined the Y this year and will be sad to see the pool close in a few weeks, but will look forward to hopefully increasing our sons skills in the water even more next summer!
I LOVE childcare at the YMCA. Its the whole reason I joined! Yall have great class offerings, too. As my son grows, I look forward to being able to participate in more of the classes and programs - and get him involved!
A variety of fun classes and good teachers. Many classes and good times during the week, fewer options on weekends. The machines are in good working order and cleaned frequently by work staff. The members are good at cleaning up after themselves in the machine area, not so much in the exercise rooms. Pool is nice and can usually get a lane without wait; wish it was open during winter. During the super-busy after work time, parking and machine use can be challenging so you have to be patient or else park in the nearby neighborhood and jog over.
I like going to group ex classes at the Foster Y.
The Y is a positive place to work out or be part of the community. I think the great staff is best asset of the 34rd street location. Its the only gym I like, down to earth.
LOVE the new equipment and am grateful for the variety of class offerings. Theres something for everyone!
Its a disaster to use this facility, especially during summer and summer program time. It is a very expensive gym membership, for a y location that is short of the amenities and parking spots. They also make it difficult to cancel your membership.
The child care at this YMCA is great. We highly recommend this location to our friends. We have also participated in team sports at this location and the events have been well organized.
This is the best place ! Its good for me and my childrens!
Decent place to work out at. They have numerous exercising machines though during peak hours it tends to be crowded. They have many different group exercise classes of which most of are free. It ranges from yoga to cycling to some real intense cardio workouts.
Great staff especially Mike the trainer. Front desk always friendly. Feel right at home always
Ive been going here for something like 14 years, but I finally suspended my membership yesterday. The people are very friendly, but Im sorry to say that theyve just plain outgrown the facility. The weights area is tiny compared to what they need. If I leave work at 3:30 pm, sure, I can generally get to whatever equipment I need and have room to use it, but after 5 pm, forget it. Youll be waiting on equipment and cooling your heels for long stretches, while trying to find room to do anything. It gets very frustrating, and my patience finally ran out.
Edit: since my review they have changed the wifi so that there is no problem connecting, thank you so much YMCA!!!! 😄 its a little hot though now that summer has rolled around, they keep the A/C high which doesnt make for very pleasant workout conditions. Other than that no complaints.Old review: Great staff, programs, and clean facilities but AWFUL wifi. Please consider an upgrade YMCA! Its hard to get on even when the gym is pretty empty.
Great team. My whole family loves coming here !
Way overcrowded and they keep signing members, .some days you cant even park and you rarley get to use the machine you would like. I tried to use an incline and had to wait 20 minutes while a kid found the right playlist and took a couple of selfies . unless you are interested in the kids program go someplace else
I love this YMCA, staff are so friendly and there is something for everyone.
Love the classes! Wide variety and all of the instructors have been excellent so far.
Great YMCA. Packed during lunch, but clean and staff is friendly and helpful. Gym is dusty and hard to play basketball in. Otherwise great family friendly place.
Very welcoming staff. Mike Warren is excellent trainer.
I love this YMCA because it has a Bible study in the chapel every other Tuesday at 6pm!
Ive been going to this ymca for 14 years and I just love this place!! Its my second home!!
They close the pool even when there is no thunder. I went there for water aerobics and I called ahead of time to make sure the pool was open and they said yes. I get there and even though it’s not thundering they still shut the pool down. Frustrated!
They refuse to cancel your membership unless you come in person (i.e. not on the phone or online). This is a sleazy business practice.
Horrible customer service. I have had to deal with the staff on several occasions over the years and they are not friendly, nor do they try to help you in anyway.
Dont sigh your kids for the basketball camp.It is a joke. No coaches, parents have to volunteer there own time to coach. That defeats the purpose of a camp.
No hate for this place
Clean, good equipment and good classes!
Great Group Classes.
Sometimes friendly and sometimes not even hello or good morning. Staff in the exercise room keep to themselves. I guess you have to be a paying customer to the trainers. To get a smile or hello.
We love this Y
Great workout
Nice facility
Fun
Good attention
