Captain Joe and Captain Ben showed us a fantastic time on the water. We were on fish from the start with a beautiful king mackerel being the first fish pulled in. They showed us techniques and were great teachers the whole time. They were professional and so fun to spend the day with. We booked an 8hr trip with Captain Joe and Captain Ben and had an amazing day of almost nonstop action. Professional, courteous, knowledgeable and just plain fun to spend a day fishing with these guys. We caught 10 different species of fish and filled the cooler with plenty of throw backs to boot. We had three generations together for our annual family vacation and could not have asked for a better fishing trip. We will definitely be using their services again and would highly recommend them for anyone looking for a great fishing experience out of Hilton Head Island.

My dad and I just got back from a 6 hour fishing trip with Captain Joe and Ben, and we haven’t had this much adventure in a long time. This was a first time experience for us, and not only did they score us a heck of a catch, but they guided us through every aspect of it. We’re already scheduling our next trip. Captain Joe and Captain Ben are the dynamic duo fishing team on Hilton Head Island. They complement each other in fishing skills and personal attention to every detail to provide a great experience out on the water. They worked hard all day helping myself, 2 sons, and grandson have the best fishing day out in the deep water we have ever had. We caught fish nonstop all day and between the sharks snapping their share and throw backs we caught many more than we kept. A great day on the water!

Our initial time had to be canceled due to weather and they were able to reschedule us. We have three kids. They were patient and interactive with all of us. We booked with Tale Hunter after looking through many different charters. Up front, their website was easy to use and had a lot of information.Capt Joe was extremely responsive. He let us know that we may have to reschedule due to weather (which we did) and slid us in to the following day at the same time. The process was super simple and he was very accommodating.We arrived a little early and were able to put our things on the boat. We had an excellent time fishing with our three teenage girls. We caught several fish with 4 keepers.Capt Joe and Capt Ben were very knowledgeable, and we shared good conversation throughout the trip. They shared all kinds of good information about the fish we were catching, about the island itself, and about the waters.We had an excellent time and will book with them again when on HHI!! Although I havent had the opportunity to fish with these guys yet, I already know how awesome they are. Earlier in the year I called to ask questions about fishing charters as we are planning an upcoming trip to Hilton Head Island. The man I spoke with was INCREDIBLY knowledgeable about fishing in South Carolina and honest with me about what type of charter would be best suited for my larger group. After speaking with him I knew that I did not want to fish with anybody but them. Once I got my group together we booked our trip to only later find out that half our party was unable to attend. I texted the number listed on the website to explain my cancellation and I received a very kind message back letting me know that my account would be fully refunded, no questions asked. Nadia and I had a great time for four hours catching fish on the Tail Hunter. Joe and Ben were very knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. We caught loads of sharks that put up a great fight, and a bonnethead that made a great meal afterwards. I wasn’t sure about going at first, but it was worth every penny. We had a blast. Captain Joe and Captain Ben took great care of us, they were extremely attentive and made sure we caught a lot of fish and big ones. They were rebaiting our hooks as soon as they came out of the water. They unhooked all of the fish. Ben expertly fileted the catch and it tasted great - we cooked it for dinner. They are very knowledgeable and we felt very safe. The boat was terrific. We barely felt any waves. They quickly got us out to our spot for the day to make sure we had the maximum time to fish. They are also very interesting and help pass the time. We highly recommend Captains Joe amd Ben.

We caught enough fish for 8 adults to have 2 meals. then we headed to a new area and caught huge reds, multiple shark, and even got a cannonball Jellyfish out the water for my wife to hold. Joe and Ben were awesome! We did the two hour shark fishing trip with our 5 year old and catch so many sharks! We even caught a bonnet shark that Ben cleaned for us so we could have it for dinner that night. Such a fantastic experience!

Captain Joe and Captain Ben worked hard to provide my family and I with a great first time Hilton Head fishing experience! I highly recommend booking your trip with this outfitter. We caught several sharks, and ended up with a couple of (very edible) bonnethead sharks, to take to the Skull Creek Boathouse restaurant (per their recommendations) directly behind the dock. We had them prepared and served family style, which we really enjoyed! We had the fillets made into “shark sampler” platters, as well as fish tacos, with the meat being fixed fried, blackened, and grilled. Took my family on a shark charter. We had the time of our lives. My son was catching sharks right and left. The experience was priceless. Captain Joe and Captain Ben were amazing, and very attentive to my two boys ages 6 and 3.

Excellent communication from Shayne Smith and Capt. Zack before our trip. Extremely eager to answer all questions and concerns prior to us getting out on the boat. Very fair price for the memories we made that day! Capt. Zack was PHENOMENAL! When I booked the charter, there was no forecast of foul weather for the day. As luck would have it, scattered thunderstorms were out and about all along the Hilton Head coast. Capt. Zack expertly zigged and zagged us between storms and put us on some great fish! Me, my wife and 14 y/o daughter Bethany had a blast pulling in nice Spanish mackerel, occasional blue fish, 1 shark and some fun to catch lady fish! The time we had was so awesome I wanted to book an additional 2 hours on the boat, but alas, the Capt. had another party waiting for him at the dock. If you think you want to do 4 hrs, BOOK 6 hrs!!!!! 2 THUMBS up for Capt Zack and Shayne Smith. Will absolutely book again!!!!

My family and I had a great trip with Joe and Ben! We all caught several fish, so many my youngest son joked that his arms went numb. We have fished a few times on HHI and this was truly the best trip weve had. Looking forward to cooking up our catch tonight!

We went out with Captain Joe and 1st mate Tom on a 4 hour charter and it was fantastic. They were great crew and were great to be around. We were a party of 5 and we had an 8 and 10 year old and both Joe and Tom did a great job working with both boys to ensure they had a great time. All five of us caught multiple fish, sharks, and we even hooked a couple of sting rays. We caught a nice sized bonnet head and ended up having it for lunch at Skull Creek Dockside, thanks to Captain Joe’s suggestion. It was a great trip and all 5 of us will remember it. We will definitely go out with them on our next Hilton Head trip! Great job Tale Hunter!

My son and I had a great time with Captain Joe! We caught some Black Sea bass and black drum, then the mate filleted them and we took them into the Skull Creek Boathouse where they cooked them for us! We also got to see a alligator and a dolphin. The boat was a Nice Boston Whaler with twin engines. So don’t hesitate to book with them!

Shayne (the owner) was very communicative before and after the trip. The boat was gorgeous and tackle was all in great shape! Our Captain Zack was understanding and patient with the small children we brought along and we caught a bunch of fish (big ones for the adults and little ones for the little ones.) I would definitely go out with them again and give them my highest recommendations!

We took the shark fishing excursion with Captain Zack tonight and it was AMAZING!!! We had our kids with us (ages 15, 11 and 10) and we ALL loved it! It was the two hour excursion and we caught SIX sharks!!!! Capt. Zack was incredible and the price was right! We will be back next year and asking for Capt. Zack again! While in Hilton Head this year we went on a dolphin tour with Tailhunters Captain Rick. It was such a great tour. The boat was brand new and Rick was very knowledgeable about all the things we could see. I would recommend this to everyone. We saw many dolphins and birds. Great experience. Cant wait to go for a ride again next year.

This was my first time doing a fishing charter and I didn’t know what to expect. When I called to ask a few questions the owner was professional, courteous, and was able to answer all of my questions. I booked the trip for the very next day. The morning of the trip we got up early, got on the boat, went about 8 miles off the coast, and caught lots of fish. We had lots of fun well worth it would definitely do this again. Would totally recommend TailHunter Hilton Head.

We were in Hilton Head for the week of July 4th and booked a 4 hour Inshore fishing trip with Capt Joe. Our family of four totally enjoyed the experience. Both kids ages 17 and 15 are beginners at fishing and caught a number of sharks. We had to throw back most of the catches, but were able to keep one of our catches and bring it to a nearby restaurant off the dock to have it cooked. Nothing beats eating a fresh catch. Capt Joe and Ben operate a clean boat, and most importantly a safe experience. They help you bait, cast and teach you how to fish. We all felt welcomed and comfortable onboard. Next time we are back in Hilton Head, we will book a trip with Capt Joe again. We had a great time!

Shayne and Zack always stayed in contact from the time I booked the charter and were always willing to answer any questions. I wouldnt have changed a thing about our trip. We had all the supplies and were able to catch a couple of sharks. Cant wait to book the next trip.

Captain Zack Sparrow and Shane knew the right spots to go! It was a great first time ever fishing in the ocean with almost everyone of the 6 of us catching our personal largest. We also caught a large variety; Ray, Toad fish, Red and Black Drum, Whiting, Speckled and Sea Trout, and Sea Bass! My son cant stop talking about it....well, he likes to remind us all that he caught the largest (28 lbs). We even started a new Thanksgiving tradition...no turkey just fish (trout and whiting), thanks to Captain Zack who filleted them for us.

Capt Zack did a fantastic job! We told him we wanted to cast lures to catch fish and that’s exactly what we did. We stopped keeping count we caught so many. Very smart and courteous Captain. Highly recommend!

It started out slow with sharks and lost bait and tackle but once we moved out a few more miles and the tide conditions turned favorable, we were on the Spanish mackerels thanks to the flocks of seagulls diving for minnows. Captain Zack was awesome and made sure my two boys (ages 11 and 13) and I had a great time!!! We are coming back for more!

Stoked on Talehunter! My 16 year old son and I had a great experience with Joe and Capt Ben from Talehunter. The deposit and final payment process were easy through the website. I called Joe and left a message a few days before arriving to check in and he was responded quickly. The process is tight. His boat is easy to find, right behind the Skull Creek Dockside. From the moment we boarded Joe and Ben were super friendly. They gave us a quick overview of what we’d be fishing for and the process. Upon cruising out to the channel these guys were fluent in what my son was into…colleges in the South, ACC, SEC football and outdoor life. (my son is a junior in the Boston area looking at Unis in the South) They made us comfortable immediately. Ben and Joe were fantastic guys! These are not the curmudgeon New England guides we are accustomed to fishing with. They brought a chill, personable local vibe to the whole experience. Most importantly they were great with my son. Once we got to the reef we dropped lines and were on fish within 5 minutes. We killed it! We caught, Sheepshead, black bass, drum…and the pesky toad fish. We ended up keeping 12 fish!(11 sheeps and 1 drum) Dockside cooked them for us for dinner. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We will definitely be back with Talehunter. I encourage anyone looking for a guide to book with Joe and Ben. It was well worth it!

Tail Hunter was awesome. Capt Rick found dolphins right away and so many. Also many types of birds on our Dolphin Watching Tour.

Just last week, my son and I booked a charter with captain Joe on the Tail Hunter. Just a little bonding session with my son. The boat was beautiful, spacious with the latest technology aboard. Joe put us on fish all day. We did a 4 hour inshore trip. Black drum, sea bass, whiting and a host of other species. My son even hooked into a nice size Tarpon. WOW what a fight, tail walking ect. Unfortunatlely after about a half hour he spit the hook. Talking about an adrenaline rush. Capt Joe and his first mate Tom were professional in every way. I will definitely book again next year.

Captain Zack and Shayne were both great. My son and I fished for Bull Reds and had a spectacular day on the water. We also caught Sea Trout, Black Drumb, Sea Bass and some smaller Blue Fish. Zack made it a great day and we will definitely do another trip in the future.

To start, the boat was awesome, Brand new kitted Boston Whaler.We were a re large group of 6 but we were very comfortable. Captain Zack had us laughing and enjoying our trip from the start. First went off sore and grabbed us a few nets of live bait then off fishing. The tide was really ripping that day so timing was off a little. With no luck, decided to go insure and look for big Red. After a few minutes we had a great fish! and a few more after a couple hours. Loved the day!

Thanks to Captain Zach and TailHunter for a great morning on the water. We had to cancel the day before due to weather and our “make-up” day was amazing. My sons have been waiting for this experience for weeks and when the weather was about to ruin our chances, a late night text to Shayne and we were booked. Turned out to be the nicest day the whole week.Captain Zach was great with my boys and the ladies on board. We caught 9 sharks, bonnet hammer head, black tip & black nose. Not to mention some ladyfish, whiting, & white drum. Zach made the trip very memorable. We have more photos & video than we know what to do with. On the way back to Skull Creek, we encountered a number of dolphin pods feeding in the shallows. I have been coming to HHI since 1977. I’m glad my first off-shore fishing trip was with my family. Great memories. I would recommend TailHunter Charters for any small group or family.

We had a great time. However, the taxi time to and from the fishing spot is included in the 2 hour time slot, so you really only get less than an hour and a half of fishing time. It felt too quick, but other than that it was good.

My family and I had an amazing time on board Tailhunter. Capt Zack was awesome. He answered all our questions and was very patient with me as I fished for the first time. We caught Sheepshead, whitefish, trout and red drum. Dockside was able to grill it up for us to eat for lunch. Theres nothing better than fresh fish.

Lousy weather equals great fishing!!! Never believe the weather forecast, the day we fished the weather was for sunny skies and light winds. By the time we left the dock, it was cloudy, rainy and the winds were way more than light.We booked a nearshore trip, but, as noted above, the weather didnt cooperate. However, Capt. Zack switched gears and we did an inshore trip with outstanding results. We caught sea trout, red and black drum. In fact at one spot we were catching so many sea trout that we asked Capt. Zack to take us to a different spot so we could fish and not just catch!!! Capt. Zack worked hard, knows the water and was an enjoyable person to be around. The boat is outstanding, well maintained and gets you to the spots fast. The fishing equipment is in excellent condition, well maintained and matched what we were fishing for. Overall a great day, despite the weather, and I would highly recommend Capt. Zack and TailHunter charters.Fished again with Captain Zack on Friday, March 23, 2018. I fished with 2 friends from Maine, who were down here on vacation from all the snowstorms up north. Again, the weather did not cooperate but Cat. Zack was flexible and moved our start time from 8:00 AM to 10 AM so the weather could settle down, which it did. We fished near shore and had a very successful day. The boat handled the rollers very well which made the fishing that much more enjoyable. We caught a variety of fish all day and Zack kept us on the fish, moving around as necessary. The equipment was in great working order and appropriate for the type and size of fish we were catching, as was proven by the screaming reels from some of the larger fish we caught. All in all a great day of fishing and a great fish fry the next evening with our friends. I continue to highly recommend TailHunter fishing charter and Captain Zack.

We had a great time with Captain Zack. Four of us started out on a half day offshore trip but seasickness and uncooperative fish caused us to convert our trip into a 4 hour nearshore trip where the water was calmer. Captain Zack was very knowledgeable and helpful. We had a great time and will book again next time we are in HH.

We have been to HiltonHead island for 6 years and have been on several charters but Tailhunter was by far the best experience we have had. Or Captain Zach was wonderful, and very personable.
