I came home from school for a month this winter. Lifting weights and fitness is one of the things that I look forward to during the week so I knew I had to find a gym for a month coming home. Most places in Northern Virginia want you to sign up and lock into long contracts. Snap Fitness was month to month and allowed me to workout while I was home without a long contract. The staff including Nelson, Joe and the owner Sean were all super helpful and supportive. I was able to walk in, sign up, and start lifting the very first day. They also gave me all the information before I got into town. The equipment is all well taken care of and patrons put away their weights and respect others. Most of the time I was working out there were just a few others in there with me. Snap Fitness had all the equipment I needed to complete my workouts. There are also multiple sanitation areas and everyone practiced proper hygiene there.I definitely recommend snap fitness if you are looking for a gym in your area.
The facility and staff are pretty good, but the customer interactions needs improvement, especially during a pandemic. The equipment inside the gym has a lot of machines and some free weights, including 2 power racks. This usually is good enough given that its a relatively small gym, but it would be much better if a third power rack or a deadlifting platform was added (I think this could be done with some slight rearranging). Of course, this isnt a major issue, but there have been quite a few times where Ive come to work out but none of the power racks were available. There have been a few times where I waited up to 30 minutes for them to open up, so it would be helpful if a third station was opened up. Other than the power racks, the other machines are all usually available. The staff are pretty nice; the personal trainers were friendly and gave me some good tips. I had some sessions with Jon, and he helped me work on my form for deadlifting and squatting. However, I would note that one of the staff members (I dont know his name) seems to not really care about safety during a pandemic, even though the gym claims that their priority is safety for all our members and staff. I usually stay away from him, but I often see him walking around without a mask on (even though the gym says masks are required for staff) and he seems pretty nonchalant about getting within 6 feet of people and even making physical contact with them. This staff members carefree attitude towards the pandemic made me feel a bit wary of the gym and whether or not they actually took actions to prevent the spread of COVID (for example, they said they implemented hourly cleaning of all equipment, but I have yet to see any staff member ever wiping down equipment). The only area that is a bit lacking in my opinion is customer interactions. Previously, this didnt really matter to me because I never had to actually call the gym, but during the COVID pandemic, I prefer to call the gym and check how many people are inside so that I can avoid going when its crowded (my personal threshold is 2-3 other people since the gym is pretty small). However, about 50% of the times that I call, no one picks up, and I end up having to go in-person and check myself, and a good percentage of the times that I go in-person, there are too many people inside already and I end up just leaving. Every time this happens, its essentially a waste of my time and my gas money. Though I admit that it could be my fault for not wanting to work out when theres too many people inside, Ill still prefer to not take the risk of being infected. I often try to go around 12PM - 4PM, and thats when I call the gym. The sign on the door says that someone should be in the gyms office from 9AM - 7PM or something like that, and I just noticed that the gyms website says that no one will be inside between 1PM and 3PM. In my opinion, (a) this change in office hours should be noted on the gyms actual sign, and (b) the times that no one is inside should be more consistent with 1PM to 3PM. Ive called as early as 12:30 and as late as 3:30 and not gotten a response, so it would be nice if they could stay in-line with the 1-3 PM.I really like this gym because its not too far from where I live and the facilities and staff are pretty good, but these past few months have been a bit frustrating for me because of how the gym chooses to handle the pandemic. My main issues right now are with not being able to contact the gym consistently and some of the staff not seeming to care about the pandemic, though I do point out that these are pandemic-specific problems, so my current review and rating is based my experiences during this time. My rating would be higher if there wasnt a pandemic happening.
No one ever pick up the phone!! Horrible
Great place to work out.
Amazing gym! Top notch equipment, incredibly friendly staff, and owners who really care about your fitness and enjoyment of the facility. I used to belong to a large chain gym, but switched to Snap Fitness at Franklin Farm when I discovered they have all the machines I need. Just love it there, and appreciate how hard the owners work to create an outstanding place to work out. When you see an owner walking around keeping things clean and making sure equipment is working as expected, you know they care about the place--and it shows! Plus effective trainers who know how to help you improve, but in a supportive environment that keeps you coming back for more. Check it out, youll be glad you did!
Just started here, but impressed with the place. I love that its small. I can go in at anytime, as the place is open 24 hours. There is always a staff/personal trainer there to help out during normal business hours, so theres someone to help if you have any questions. Stay is friendly and knowledgeable. Facilities are very clean and they take pride in functioning and clean equipment. Would highly recommend this place.
The facility is pretty good and the staff are pretty nice.*** Updated review ***I checked my card statement and Sean is correct that he did not charge me for the additional person. Id still like to see some improvement in time to getting back to customers about billing-related issues, clarity for membership rates, and COVID best-practices---for example, your employees should probably wear masks; if I remember correctly, theres a sign on the wall that says they should. Ive seen an employee, an elder gentleman, not wearing a mask and making physical contact with clients (in a friendly manner which would have been OK prior to the pandemic). That being said, I think this gym still deserves a 5-star rating compared with other gyms of similar price and location.*** Old review below***The reason for the two-star review here, however, is how the staff have been treating me when I went to the gym during quarantine. I went to this gym for a while and wanted to rejoin after quarantine. My first day back, an employee, an elder gentleman who was not wearing a mask, touched me as I walked into the office. Seemed innocuous enough, but didnt seem like a best practice. The month of June was supposed to be free, and I wasnt sure whether I wanted to join yet. But Sean, the owner, said that I should get started on the plan anyways. I trusted him and so I said OK, even though I was hesitant about it, and he billed me for one month starting that day, even though that day was supposed to be free and I just wanted a trial to see how the gym was.I ended up not wanting to return, and so far, it seems impossible for me to get refunded my membership. Ive called 3 times already, and Sean never seems to be there. No one else knows how to handle the billing. I sent an email but never got a response. As someone who was hesitant to join and got pushed into joining, it seems pretty unfair that I got billed for a month when I didnt go---or want to go---a single time. Ive wasted a lot of my valuable time calling, and it seems like I was pushed into doing something I didnt want to, with no way to get refunded. I even feel a bit scammed. So readers---use the free trial, and do not let Sean bill you on the first day unless you are absolutely sure that you do not want to cancel. Once you are billed, it will be a huge hassle to try to get your membership refunded. You might even have to end up writing a review, like me, just to get his attention. This is my first time writing a negative review, and Im hoping this review will get Seans attention so he can finally get the refund back to me. At that point, Id be willing to revise my review, as the other aspects of this gym are fine.-----Response to the Seans reply:Hello Sean, thanks for getting back to me. It would have been helpful to get back to me earlier (as I have waited almost three weeks now) but I hope youre well. If you had time to cancel my membership, could you have also refunded me while you were at it?When you first brought up re-starting the membership, I mentioned that the month of June was supposed to be free. But you said June was ending in two days anyways, so you told me to just start that same day. I trusted you and I think youre a nice guy, so I said OK, assuming that Id be able to cancel later. Im glad you dont believe in that type of sales, but I think you can understand that I might be frustrated when my request for the refund did not get responded to for almost three weeks, and no one who answered the phone knew how billing works. I started to think that you were avoiding my calls because you didnt want to give me a refund. If you had said we would both start the membership and it would be $70 dollars total, then why were we only charged $35?My brother will drop by tomorrow to talk with you (as I am busy with work) and once it is confirmed that we were only charged $35, I will happily update the review.
Great place to work out. Open 24 hours a day so available when you are. The staff are genuinely committed to helping you get in shape and more than willing to try and work around your schedule for personal training. The equipment is all sate of the art and well maintained. Facilities are always clean. Highly recommend to everyone.
As far as ownership and management go, this is the best gym Ive ever joined. They werent pushy vultures like most gym staff have turned into. They answered all my questions, were very straightforward about pricing (unlike Golds), and cancelling my membership was extremely easy and even pleasant. Highly recommended.
All around great gym. It being open 24-7 allows you to always find time to get a good work out. Friendly members and staff, always willing to help you out. No matter what time of day it is never too crowded.
I have been a Snap member for close to a year now. I am so glad that I discovered this facility when searching for my first gym. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the facility is clean and well managed. I have also taken advantage of the personal training offerings, and have had great results from doing so. I love that this location is open 24/7, and that the other members are very respectful and considerate.
I have been working out at Snap Fitness -Herndon for 9 months and have enjoyed the experience of a neighborhood gym. The staff is friendly and helpful. The members are mostly local neighborhood people who enjoy coming to work out with other friendly people. There are people of all shapes and sizes that enjoy working out in a non-pressured atmosphere! The care and support of my trainer has made this a great experience in learning a new lifestyle!
Great gym, great trainers. Highly recommend
This club is awesome! Your not pushed into joining and the atmosphere is friendlier than any other gym Ive belonged too. Always clean.
Very friendly staff and ownership, great gym at a convenienent location, would recommend if you live in the area!
Snap Fitness in Franklin Farm is the best gym Ive ever joined. You go in; you go out; there are no superficialities to speak of.Most notably, I went during college and do still go when I visit for winter break, etc., and the gym allows me to pay only for the months that Im there. Theyre super honest, and there are no hidden fees.
I no longer have a membership, but the staff here was always amazing: very, very kind group of people. Great equipment, too, of course.
Great gym with multiple squat racks and plenty of plates for deadlifts. If you like a smaller gym this is a great gym.
I drive an hour each way to workout at this gym twice a week - and I have a gym in my apartment building! I have been training with Schatem for just about 6 weeks and have lost 4% of my body fat - seriously, 4%. Our workouts are so cool, they are fast paced and always different. I never know what she is going to throw at me, which I love because I am never bored AND before you know it your workout is over, youre dripping with sweat and feeling great. For me, its empowering that she is not only extremely well educated but she takes the time to teach me about WHY we are doing certain moves, combos, etc. She even sat with me well beyond our session time to go over my meal plan - and ever since, without fail, she checks on what Ive been eating every week. When I struggle, she gives me excellent feedback and surprisingly tasty recipes.I highly recommend this Snap Fitness. The feel is intimate, just the right size with a ton of awesome and clean equipment (which they teach you to use!). The owners seem to know everyone who comes in, they are encouraging but not in your face. Ive always hated that gyms kinda feel like a hustle, and that always turned me off. Schatem (my trainer) and her husband own the gym together - now that is dedication!
Been going here for about 3 years now and I love it.
Friendly staff, convenient and clean with lots of equipment choices
I have belonged to Snap Fitness on Franklin Farm Road since January of 2012. I had joined 4 gyms in my past and this is by far the friendliest, most accessible, cleanest gym of them all. All of the equipement is top notch! The best thing however about this particular gym are its staff. From the owners Schatem and Sean to the team of personal trainers including Schatem, Jackie, Anthony and others, they are excellent in every way and truly care about their clients! I have lost more than 54 pounds with their undying help between diet and exercise. I highly recommend Snap Fitness to anyone and have to EVERYONE in the area of Fairfax!
I dont write reviews very often, but I felt compelled to pass on my experience at Snap Fitness in Herndon, VA. Ive been working out for nearly 20 years and I can honestly say that this is, by far, the best gym Ive ever been a part of. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and the owners are almost always on site. Membership is month-to-month and surprisingly affordable. The gym is very clean and loaded with state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment along with free weights; I cant remember a time when I had to wait on a peice of equipment. I could go on and on about this place...unfortunately Im moving north soon and I know I wont find another gym like this one...I always feel like family when Im there...definitely going to miss it.
Did not care for this type of gym. Too much like working out in a Fish bowl with everyone watching. Not very inspiring.
Its conveniently located Gym with friendly staff and great set of machines for workout.
Convenient. Friendly staff. Lots of equipment in small space.
Friendly people that dont make me feel bad if I miss a few days.
Super convenient, variety of equipment and clean!
