Very poor customer service. Not professional, left car dirty. Rude manager, very bad experience all together. They wouldnt take a black guy car but then took a white man right after. Sketchy business practices. Wont be back to many other places around for that bs

The people there are very friendly and accommodating. I showed up late and they still fit me in the schedule. My exhaust was fixed for much less than other shops had quoted me. And done very quickly. I would highly recommend Big Als Mufflers and Brakes.

I dont understand this place. Onw day I called a few weeks ago and no one answered... I called about 3 times back to back and still no answer.😠I drove by and the people were just talking outside. I called today and after I for through, he put me on hold. After almost being on hold for 14 minutes, I hung up and called another location...

Not a good experience

This placed used to be my go-to but they’ve recently changed management and some of the repair guys too. It seems that with this, they’ve lowered in quality too.Took my car to get my serpentine belts changed because my AC was squeezing and they said that would fix it. They also convinced me to do a fuel systems cleaning so I went ahead and did because why not.Well, the AC was still squeezing and I had a new rattling noise that was coming from the underbelly of my car. I took it back to them and they said the AC noise was because there was rust on a gear and that id have to replace e etching to really fix it... okay fine, but the new rattling noise I was told was from a loose bolt (from when they did the fuel system cleaning) and that they fixed it. Here I am three weeks later and it’s still rattling.Looks like it’s time to find a new car shop that I can trust, because these guys are no longer it.Stay away...

Traveling and had car problem found Bug Al’s after getting off an exit from the highway! Sure glad we found this place on a Saturday afternoon! The gentleman Keith was so nice and helpful! I really appreciate how I was able to do an overnight drop off for my car. I needed brakes done and they were able to have it done the next day. Brian called me to inform what the problem was and how much before they fixed it. I am definitely going back to them.

Been here once first time was great came back again and they made feel very uncomfortable. So I wont be bringing my vehicle back! Told me that they lose money on basic or changes well excuse me thats all I need it.

Big Als seemed like a good deal until 4 years later when I had to replace the system again. I took my truck to a national muffler place and they showed me how bad the quality actually was. I contacted big Als and they only warranty the work for 18 months.

They stink! Slow

Needed my muffler fixed and they did it as soon as I brought it in within 30 minutes for a great price! It was simply the best price and service Ive ever had at a place like this. Highly recommend

I want to say that the manager John is so wonderful. He is honest and very friendly. I’m new to VA and was very nervous to go to a new mechanic, however, soon as walked in I felt better. My tech Jack was wonderful and knowledgeable. He explained everything to me. I would recommend this place to anyone. We talked and laughed the whole time I was waiting. I came to the shop to get an x pipe I purchased online with very high quality installed and they overcharged need 150$ which was significantly over the cost to do this 15 min max Maint action. There is no rust the pipe was not welded this was just extortion. on a 2017 mustang gt. The cost of bolting in an x pipe at most is 100$

I’ve always been able to depend on this shop. The quality of work is exceptional. I can always rely on the mechanic Jack to get me back on the road. Thanks to the whole team at Big Al’s in Hampton!

See updated review above**I had to update my review- after posting the below review, I was contacted by the District Manager- Charles. Charles truly exhibited what customer service, resolution and experience is all about!! Charles went above and beyond to ensure he understood my concern. He followed up with both myself and my overprotective father. He ensured a new alternator and battery was installed the next day after the review. That did not solve my problem, but instead of letting that be the end, he then reached out to a specialist for additional research, and came to the conclusion that a make specific alternator is needed that is more specific to the make of my truck. It does not end there- he ordered that make specific alternator- absorbing the cost to ensure the issue was resolved. During our conversation I learned a bit about the Big Al brand and his professional experience with him. I know that he went above and beyond to heal and mend the relationship that was broken. I have been going to them for over 20 years.

My daughter arrived Monday night, December 23, from Vermont. On the trip her exhaust pipe had broken. She had to return to VT early December 26. We got her car to Big Als when they opened Dec 24. Not only were they very friendly and helpful, they finished the repair in a couple of hours. Spliced in a piece of pipe about 10 long and only charged her $80! Made for a Merry Christmas! Some places that shall remain nameless would have charged her to replace the entire exhaust system.

We’ve been to this location for oil changes but this time we also had to get our brake pads checked. As always, the staff was very friendly and informative. They explain the work that needed to be done along with a fair price. Overall we had a awesome experience!!

My first point of contact at this company was Chris, who was extremely professional, and had awesome phone etiquette. I had my 2 year old with me, and I was on a time crunch ... but their service (oil/filter change & minor fix) was so quick and smooth, I wanted to buy them all ice cream ... thanks guys !!!

I tried to get a quote as the website its saying to ask to get a quote and they just tole me they can not give any quote without seeing the car, I explain what its needs to be done the mode year everything of my car but they still can not give me a quote, i can not drive my car cuz its too laud. I’m not gonna towing there without know any price....

There werent any mechanic available to give my car a tune-up. One mechanic that was there suggested that I leave my vehicle which I refuse to. There were a number of about 7 cars on the property but no customers in sight at all. The place almost looked abandoned I left and went somewhere else

Have brought my vehicle numerous times from oil changes to big jobs, always get honest advice and always done in reasonable timing, definitely reccomend!

Today I went to Big Als on Pembroke Ave.in Hampton. I had a leak between my tail pipe and my muffler and they gave me an estimate of $103.00. Bob was the mechanic who did the work. When he was done he said he was able to weld the pieces together and my bill would be $50.00. It is so nice to go to a business that is so honest and does not take advantage of people. I will definitely go back and suggest any of my friends go to you. I will send anyone who asks to you.Thank you so much for your honesty and good work !!! Thank you to Bob and the whole team!

I went to this Big Als and got my stock muffler replaced with Borla Exhaust cat back. James pulled it right in the bay and John (the manger) gave me an awesome quote which was 125 cheaper than other places. James did great work and got it done fast at last notice. They even held my old exhaust for a few days till I was able to come back and get it. I would go back to them any day. Go here. Their Great!!!

Went in close to closing needing work done of my drift car. Exhaust was hanging low and was dragging. One of the workers, Alex, was able to modify my exhaust hangers and even patch my holes without me asking. He went beyond what I was looking to get done, just in time for my Spirit.jp Drift Series event this weekend!

I highly recommend Big Als off of Pembroke Ave! After going for an oil change, there was some confusion in the grade of oil used. While the mechanic was confident he used the correct oil, I wanted to be absolutely certain that there was no risk to my vehicle. John, the manager, offered to re-change the oil at no cost and fit me in quickly on a busy weekend. I very much appreciated the staffs dedication to making sure I was a satisfied customer. They have definitely earned my future business!

Very helpful and well priced. Took them a job that Meineke said they couldn’t do after they had the car for 3 days and Big Al’s had it looked at, quoted, and finished in 3 hours. Honest and kind guys. Will definitely take my next repair there.

I stopped by here to get my muffler fixed. While I was there I watched how the owner interacted and treated customers and was amazed at his kindness and honestly. I shouldnt be but its not the norm these days. Ive since gone back with my son and his can and continued to be impressed.

Theres a nice mgr/mechanic named Brian who seems to be very honest about what repairs need to be done and the prices are pretty fair (unlike dealerships).

John and the workers there are absolutely amazing and go beyond expectations. They finished my rotors and even fixed my bumper for me without question. I absolutely recommend this place to everyone.

Had a really BAD experience!!! Had my ac recharged management told me I would soon need a compressor. so about a week or two later ac started blowing HOT air. Went to management ask him if I replace this compressor would that fix the problem? manager say I give you my word it will definitely blow cold. Cost for compressor and labor $702.00. So I let them do the work; still blowing Hot air!!!. Manage try to tell me its a new problem WHAT??? it wasnt blowing at all when you came in here WHAT???. These people Didnt want to refund my MONEY. LONG story short They took off their new compressor and gave me a refund. I was going to make this my go to shop for all my repair needs: But I wont look there for anything other than what the sign say muffler & brakes and probably not even that!!!

Ok kinda slow

I was skeptical to have an oil change with Big Als because they advertise for mufflers and brakes. Overall, the Owner is friendly, courteous, and professional. They showed me parts that needed replaced. I was satisfied when I left their business. I will return to this center.

Forest and the rest of the staff were professional, courteous, and timely. When I called, I was told how much time the service would take and that is just how long it took. They were respectful of my time and money. I will go back.

Just the kind of experience you hope for but hardly ever get. Terry called and says, hey, your back brakes are good, we are only changing the front. And they changed my oil for $21, which is so cheap... Id been in Virginia Beach before moving here, and the place I stopped at wanted $80 for a synth mix... and now I get the same thing for twenty bucks? And fast too... Terry was just awesome, go to Big Als on Pembroke will now be my e-mail byline I think.

I was definitely not going to be a big money maker for them today. I like working on my vehicle but I ran into a problem I couldnt solve in my driveway without a torch. I needed stripped and seized caliper bolts replaced and bleed valves freed as they were stuck. John at the counter didnt blink an eye and took my keys after writing me up. James the mech jumped on the job and made quick work solving my woes while I fiddled with my phone in the waiting room. $100 later I was back on the road. Great work and fair price with a very friendly and brutally honest staff. Reminds me of a similar business model back in my hometown in S.C., Geralds Brakes and Tires. Thanks again. Im totally coming back in the future when I need their services again.

I am absolutely floored by the level of professionalism, respect and honesty conveyed by the staff at Big Als.I was frustrated and over my head with a transmission and engine replacement, and they gave me honest, real advice and didnt try to milk me for money I frankly dont have.I wish them only success, and I HIGHLY recommend taking your vehicle to them for repair.

They do good work on your car

Got an exhaust system installed four years ago. Had to go back three times since. This last time they told me the whole thing had to be redone and wanted me to pay for it. I asked if the typical life span of a new exhaust was 4 years and their answer was yes. Apparently, if you get work done at Big Als you can expect it to only last a few years and youll be paying them to do it again.

Did not have to wait long and the price was good.
