My friend had a very good experience here, so when my cat was having an emergency I called them and was told we arent taking emergencies today. It was 10:30am on a Wednesday. Their website says 24/7 emergency care. I understand staffing issues or that maybe you are no longer doing emergency all the time for whatever reason but PLEASE update your website with factual information. It says 24/7 emergency care repeatedly on your site.

Brought a small kitten here around 11:45 pm, was told it would be a 2-3 hour wait. No problem. When they took her in they kept me updated the whole time. When my dad wouldn’t answer the phone to pay because he had fallen asleep, they let me take the kitten home and call back to pay today. Great staff, the kindness made me cry in relief

This place is beyond amazing. Our fur child stomach had twisted at around 10am took her to our normal vet who recommended Carolina Vet. Specialists, our vet also called them first and was able to give us an exit mate up front. So we knew what we were going to be looking at upon arrival for the emergency services. Upon arriving and following the signs that state if this is an emergency please bring the animal in, they were waiting on us. After sitting in the car for a few minutes Dr. Brown called us and was extremely comforting. Our fur child was in surgery within a hour of arriving. We were provided with time estimates and also major updates. We were told that we could call at any point and you better believe it we did. Every time we called we were treated with a joyful and compassionate person on the other end of the line. Upon picking up our fur child we were given detailed instructions on what to do. Our fur child decided a couple days later to have something else wrong with her. So back to CVS, the vet. We were given updates once again. Our fur child is alive today because of this establishment. Yes it was expensive but even human emergency services bills are expensive. Our o my negative comment that we could make is that they are not an everyday vet, and just emergency and rehabilitation.

Recently, my dogs cancer returned. After speaking with the veterinarian at CVS Winston-Salem who initially did my dogs first ultrasound, my veterinarian routed me to Carolina Veterinary Specialists, Greensboro for an ultrasound. The front-line staff were very organized. My call to the front desk (as this is Covid) was answered quickly. Our veterinary technician Heather was an exceptional person! She was genuine, compassionate, empathic, and kind. She was gentle with our little girl. The radiologist performed the ultrasound quickly, and we knew in 15 minutes that her nodes were swollen (suggesting the cancer had returned).Although the ending was very sad--we appreciate how thorough and compassionate all staff were at the CVS facility in Greensboro, NC.

I had to give one star but my REAL choice would be ZERO STARS!!! NOT only did they attempt to gouge me when my heart was most vulnerable by giving me a cost of $3000 but then they said you can contact some non profits to see if they can help you....REALLY...THAT IS NOT A SOLUTION! Non Profits during COVID are so short staffed it would take days for them to get back with me....they KNOW THIS, it was a guilt trip to get me to fork out money that I do not have. Meanwhile my puppy is bleeding out with a crushed scull and her eye popped out. BUT SURE WE WILL WAIT!!! Thankfully I had someone with me that suggested that we contact another vet to see what their opinion would be. With the information I gave them the cost was $800! GUESS WHAT THE FINAL BILL WAS??? $789! Now my baby girl is happy, healthy and we will NEVER speak kindly of this so called vet. Shame on any establishment that would take advantage of people when they are so emotional vulnerable.

We’ve brought our pets here four times and they did an outstanding job every time. Saved our first dog from bloat and he lived another 1.5 years. Second and third time saved our second dog from a collapsed lung. And when our old boy got in bad shape last night (we had an appointment to have him put down today) they very compassionately relieved his pain with kindness and gentleness. Great doctors and friendly staff…they deal with people at their worst when anxieties are high and have always done a great job for us. Thank you for being there when we needed help. They give you a clear list of instructions for after your visit as well.I cant express enough how much I appreciate their services. The services are way too expensive which tells me they care more about $’s than taking care of your pet. You are forced to make a decision on how much you love and cherish your pet vs. what you can afford and what is really within reason. This is the second time I have had to make this decision— the first time (10 years ago) I made the wrong decision, had the surgery and my pet was paralyzed—carried him around for 7 years before I had to put him down because he couldn’t move. Is the price really worth the chance you take??

We were very impressed with the service provided at CVS. Our 8 month old puppy got into sugar free gum. Upon calling CVS they quickly gave us the number and instructions for the ASPCA poison control line. Upon arrival, we were met with kind and caring professionals. They treated our sweet puppy quickly. After their initial evaluation they provided us with an update on her status and proposed treatment plan including an estimate of cost. The doctor was very attentive and answered all of our questions. We were told that we could call at any point and I did (multiple times a day). Every time we called we were treated with a compassionate person on the other end of the line that happily provided a thorough update. Additionally, each of the doctors called at the end of their shift to provide us an update. We were given detailed discharge instructions. Even after our puppy had been discharged and bill paid, CVS answered our calls with questions with the same care as they did while our puppy was a patient. Our sweet puppy is alive today because of this establishment.

I called asking to bring my puppy in at 6am because he was having an emergency and they waved me off and tried to make me wait until 8am. They also quoted me 800 dollars worth of examinations. I got the same examinations at a regular vet for 50 dollars and an additional 20 since it was an emergency. They refused to care for my dog until they changed shifts 2 hours later at 8am. This place advertises 24 hour emergency services but I was refused and did not even get the chance to bring my dog in. I’m glad I found another vet because this place was very disappointing.

Not sure why this is labeled an emergency vet. I took my dog here after he lost consciousness twice on a walk after eating something. I drove an hour to get here because it was the closest to my house and even told them that on the phone when I called to check in. The lady told me that they couldn’t take him because they “didn’t have the staff to assist and because they didn’t really know what was going on with him” apparently you should only bring your dog if you know what the emergency is. They referred me to After Hours emergency vet which was about 7 mins down the road - take your pet there instead.

Took my dog to them on Sunday. He had not been eating and was vomiting up corn cobs. They took xrays and gave him fluids and said they saw no reason to call in the surgeon. Told me take him home and if he wasnt better by the next day to take him to my vet. My baby took a turn for the worse over night. Rushed him to my vet as soon as they opened. They did surgery to remove blockage in small intestine but he cardiac arrested during surgery and died. I cant help but wonder if he would still be here if they had called in the surgeon the day before. I am heart broken and have no faith in these people.

I will not bring another animal to this facility. We were waiting in the car to be seen when our pet collapsed. When I called the check-in number and explained what happened, they were not able/willing to bring him in until the vet was ready to see him. Ended up going to another facility who got us in right away and identified multi-organ system decline. Our dog ended up going into cardiac arrest and was unable to be resuscitated, but at least someone was taking care of him, instead of him just dying in our car. Pleased with the service we got at the other facility.

Rude staff called me over to receptionist station only to take a phone call as I started relaying my emergency. Not just thanks for calling can you hold. A legit entire phone call. Was told it was not an actually 24 emergency hospital which is what it states on Google. Advised I was referred to them by my vet. I said my dog has an eye injury is there no one that can please look at her? They said the ophthalmologist was there but couldn’t see me today. They sent me to CVS in Winston Salem. Said they take emergencies today. Terrible service! can’t even go inside with COVID restrictions. They take my very old geriatric dog inside then 5 minutes later call me and say we can’t treat her eye here. You need to go to CVS in Greensboro! Where I had just come from! They Said the ophthalmologists may could try and squeeze her in today but that there was no radiologist there if she needed a scan. I Advised them dog was not eating. Was Sent home with oral medications none of which she will take bc of pain level- she can’t even open her mouth without yipping in pain. Did not give any injectable versions of medicine while there. $250 for that visit and had we gone to the CVS in Greensboro who were already excessively rude that morning just for an ophthalmologist consultation I was quoted $400. That was just the consult and the doctor would have said the same thing. I can’t see her cornea she should get a ct scan but radiology isn’t here today so you will have to also schedule that. HOW DARE THEY CALL THEMSELVES EMERGENCY MEDICINE! They are nothing but specialists referring out to other specialists- not ever treating. they didn’t even wipe the bloody tears that were coming down my dogs face during her exam which I was not able to be present for. My dogs history on her d/c sheet was wrong getting the timeline of incidence incorrect and who knows if they actually even really examined her at Winston location? Our mobile vet is thankfully going to come here today to give her some injections of the medicine. Do not go to CVS for emergency shame on them!

I was referred here by my home vet as a last resort because my dog was very sick. The Vet that I saw was cold and unhelpful and told me after just looking at her that she most likely had cancer and that I should think about putting her down. I opted for the tests to be sure that his diagnosis was correct. My dog received several tests worth nearly 4K. It took the doctor 2 weeks to call back with the test results because he went on vacation and did not bother to let us know as we waited to hear if my dog was critically ill and needed to be put down. When the test results finally did come, they were inconclusive and he ended up telling me to go back to my regular vet because he had not figured out was was wrong with my dog. All in all, my dog thankfully recovered on her own. The experience here was horrible and a waste of time and money. Go somewhere else

Dr. Lisa and the staff here did a fabulous job removing a spatula from my dogs stomach. She was very kind and attentive and fast to answer the phone when I had to hang up and call her back. She was very honest, upfront and forthcoming regarding the possible treatment plans, costs, and likelihood of success/contingency plans, all without me having to ask at all. She was very conscious of the price of emergency surgery/other efforts, once again- without me having to say anything about trying to be cautious with money. She explained a little bit about why things cost what they did- you guessed it, without me having to ask. They were able to remove the darn spatula using the least invasive technique available. They even noticed something off about his urine and gave me medicine to treat that as well, preventing me from having to take him to my normal vet to receive yet more veterinary care. This clinic did a tremendous job during what could have been a traumatic situation. I highly recommend using them. We have plenty of experience with other emergency vets and hands down, recommend this one first.

We arrived with a potentially septic dog at 11:30 am on a Saturday morning after calling to let them know we were coming. They took our information on phone from the parking lot and told us they would come get us when they could see her. After asking twice why they had not seen her while trying to comfort her in the car, we were told they had another vet coming in within an hour and “maybe it would speed up.” This was at 1:30 pm. They could not give us any estimate of waiting time.At 2:30 pm, more concerned about the condition of our dog, who had also not had any food or water all day and was now in pain given the time lapsed from the last medication we had given her at 9:00 am from our regular vet on Friday, we started looking for other emergency vet offices. We took our dog to Happy Tails on Battleground. Same process, but we waited only 20 mins for them to take her back, provide pain medication, water and observation while waiting for her turn with the vet. What a relief to have a vet office that cared about stabilizing your sick dog while waiting! We arrived home at 4:15...just around the time the Carolina Veterinary Specialist office called to see if we were still sitting the parking lot....five hours after we had arrived. Unbelievable. If this had been an actual human ER, this would be a lawsuit for negligence. Don’t take your animal there if you have an emergency unless you want to risk their life. Horrible service.

Was told by our regular vet that our dog needed fluids administered over night. She recommended this place as they are staffed 24 hours/day. When we got there and registered over the phone, we were told someone would be with us shortly. After waiting for an hour, we called back and was told they had an emergency and would be with us as soon as they could. After waiting another hour, a vehicle pulled in. We could see the person in the car call in. Within less than a minute, someone came out and promptly took that cat in. When we asked why they took her back and we were still waiting, the employee looked at us, but did not respond. The owner smiled and said his cat was having trouble breathing. We heard nothing else from the employees and finally left. When we left, we called to let them know we were leaving. The only explanation we got was other animals took priority. My frustration was our vet said she called and let them know we were coming. They were supposed to be ready for us and, after 2+ hours with no concern to check on our dog, who may have been in stress and they would have never known. This is not acceptable!!!!

We were never seen and waited an hour to be told they couldn’t help. We came to this facility recommended by Banfield. We called once we arrived and told them what was wrong with our cat (fractured tooth.) I was told to wait as they had a few emergency cases ahead of us. An hour later, I called asking if I could use their restroom and then asked for an update. That’s when I found out from another receptionist that they don’t do dental care at all and could not see us. We’re heading to Happy Tails now, which will at least help us with pain management until we can have him seen by the vet. I just don’t understand why we weren’t told this before by the receptionist. We wasted valuable time with a stressed out animal for nothing. Absolutely unacceptable.

I’m very selective with leaving reviews, and very rarely do I leave a bad review; I understand that people are people, and all of us are going to have a bad day from time to time and fall short of perfection. That being said, I am only leaving one star for this business, and that’s literally because I can’t leave zero stars. In more than 20 years of experience with various vets and animal clinics, I can never recall any occasion when I have been treated with such casual disregard and a sense of almost lackadaisical contempt. My wife and I arrived with a grievously injured family pet who was experiencing extreme pain and some panicked breathing. When we arrived, we followed the instructions given by the staff (no entry was authorized due to COVID concerns) and responded to all of their questions, which included a comprehensive explanation of the animal’s condition, which the staff member read back to us and indicated that she understood. We were told that due to triage conditions, several other animals would precede him in the queue, and that we would be seen as soon as reasonably possible. We were told to wait for a call to receive further guidance. So we waited...... and waited...... and waited. We saw several additional vehicles arrive, and then leave. We did not receive a call. Several staffers came and went from various vehicles; no one even acknowledged us. Throughout this time, our pet was in very audible agony. After more than an hour, we called to inquire if there was any estimate on how much longer we might expect to wait. The response was infuriating; when we explained the animal’s condition, we were told that they did not have the appropriate equipment or training to address his particular emergency. When we explained what the prior staffer had told us, she told us that she was sorry we had been given the wrong information. We asked where else we could go, and we were told that given his condition, it was unlikely anyone else in the area could help him before the next business day.We consulted the internet, and soon found another emergency vet; my wife filled out their online questionnaire while I drove to their business. When speaking to them, they were honest with us and told us that although they didn’t have the necessary equipment and skill sets on hand to deal with his particular condition, they could stabilize his condition and make his pain manageable.Total time from when we pulled in to when he taken in for treatment: less than 15 minutes. The staff member on hand told us that there would be a nominal charge to start treatment (which we gladly paid), and that they could have him feeling no pain in only a few minutes. We’ll still need to take him to a specialist for further treatment, but in the short term, he’s alive and comfortable. The cherry on top of this terrible experience came more than an hour after we had left the first hospital, when they finally called to ask us if we were ready to be seen. My wife told them that we had already told them that we were leaving and that their services were no longer required. She received an apology, but after all that we had experienced, it came off as somewhat hollow. It seems obvious that Carolina Vet Specialists do not understand or value the relationships between pets and their owners. I understand you not being able to deal with a particular issue or condition, but I have nothing but disdain for an establishment that will allow you to swing in the wind just because their staff doesn’t have enough self-awareness to know what they are and/or aren’t capable of.

A little background first. My cat had to have her leg amputated due to cancer. That happened on Thursday, 8-27 at her regular vet. The following Thursday she had some dead tissue removed in the middle of the sutures area. Her vet took about a 2-3 inch diameter circle of tissue off. It was covered by gauze with honey smothered on it. Yes, honey. Supposedly honey has some healing qualities to it. There is a somewhat complicated way the vet used to keep the gauze on. It was showed to my wife and me because we would need to change the dressing over the upcoming weekend. Well Saturday rolls around and we proceed to change the dressing. The gauze that was on didnt want to come off easily. Our cat got a bit out of hand as I soaked the parts that was sticking with saline. To shorten this story, I got it off, but she wouldnt let me put the new one on. We decided to go to Carolina Vet Center because they were recommended by our vet. They got her in and called my wife with their plan. They said that they are familiar with the honey process, but they wanted to remove more dead tissue and would charge us $400-500. After already spending $2800 and knowing what our vet told us, we said no. We were willing to pay for them to just put a dressing on and well go about our business. They were talking to my wife, but I will assume that they said no because it would cause her more problems and they were unwilling to do that. We told them that our vet already knew there was a little bit of dead tissue and I saw just a little bit too (I do know what dead tissue looks like, I was a medic in the Army many moons ago). Of course they were curbside only and they would not let me in to see the alleged tissue that they wanted to remove. We ended up taking her home with the uncovered wound (every other emergency clinic we called had a long wait time), my wife slept in the floor with our cat and she left a desperate voice mail with our vet Sunday morning. Luckily, they got the voice mail and told us to come in and they re-dressed the wound at no charge. They have been re-dressing for us at no charge everyday. 5 days later, the wound is healing nicely and our vet says maybe another 5 days before it heals completely. I cant imagine how far this would set her recovery process if we let Carolina Vet do what they wanted to do. I cant help but wonder if this was a way to scam us for more money using the pandemic as an excuse to not allow us to be in the room as they showed us what needed to be removed. At least they didnt charge us for the visit. I do not recommend Carolina Vet nor will I take any of my pets there in the future.

My husband and I went on vacation for 10 days, longest weve ever been away from our pets. My cat started acting really strange, throwing up 2-3 times a day, not eating or drinking. So of course we freaked out and rushed her over to Carolina Vet, they told us that it would at least be $340 if they find out what is wrong, $520 if they needed to do x-rays. So we had to pay 75% of the $520 right then and they told us that it would be hours before they could tell us anything so we just went home.We waited a while and still hadnt gotten any kind of update about her condition so we called and all they told us was Shes resting comfortably. No more details. 6:30 that night the vet calls and informs us that they have found nothing wrong but some dehydration, so they want to keep her over night to get some fluids in her and get her hydrated so there was nothing we could really do. He told us they would call between 2-4 the next day to get the check out process started. So we waited anxiously. The next day we had no kind of update on her so we called after 2 and told them that we want to pick up our cat, they informed us that wouldnt be possible until between 4 & 5. So we waited some more. 4:30 comes and we still have not heard a word from the vets office. So we called again and they told us that we could plan on being there by 5.We get there at 5 and call to pay the remainder of our bill, turns out we paid $1,158.00 TOTAL for them to tell us she was just dehydrated. And when she was returned to us she was covered in pee and smelled terrible, not sure if they didnt give her the proper way to use the bathroom. Felt so terrible for the little babe. All of this to say, the office never called once with an update. In 30 hours. Very unprofessional and I will not be returning to use these services.

Several years ago I brought my cat Sadie in with creatinine levels near the point of being beyond treatment. This office did such a great job at helping her recouperate. They were quite surprised that a cat with such compromised kidneys recovered so quickly. Years later her kidney function is still almost perfectly normal. I do give her fluids several times a week to help but ever since her couple days in kitty ICU her blood work has been totally normal. I cant thank these vets enough for saving my little kitty. It wasnt cheap but it was worth it as I believe she will continue to be healthy and there are no signs that her kidney function has deteriorated at all. These folks will do whatever they can for your pets and (God forbid) I ever have to take my animals back to a emergency vet this would be the vet that I would go to. I just want to say thank you for those that were involved. I dont remember names but Im greatly appreciative that they were able to help out Sadie and return her to a comfortable and normal life. ❤️Just a quick P.S. after reading some other reviews. Standard practice is the vet gives an exam thats the price that they quote. Following the exam they are able to give a more accurate treatment plan. Theres no way for them to tell what your animal needs based on what you tell them over the phone or based on looking at them for 30 seconds. Emergency vets are expensive. I spent $1,500 for about 2 days of inpatient treatment for Sadie. I think some people fail to understand how businesses operate. You cant fault a business for needing to do an exam before they can come up with a rough dollar amount. Even after that if things change and more is required than originally planned that original estimate may increase. Its just the way things work. Thats how it works at emergency rooms. Thats how it works at doctors offices. They will never tell you upfront what the total cost is outside of the initial exam. So giving some place a one-star rating because they couldnt give you an accurate price the moment you walked in is a little bit shortsighted and reflects more on your knowledge of how things work than it does on the actual veterinary practice.

The service to pets are great besides the long wait time; I was told when I came “first come first serve” and then people started to come and I ended up being the 2nd to last one in the parking lot; I’m not sure if they were emergency patients or not but it was along wait time. Also the female at the front desk is VERY disrespectful and does not need to speak to customers if she is unable to deal with customers or handle a situation of multiple customers.

Carolina Veterinary Specialists are absolutely the worst veterinary emergency clinic we ever had to deal with. One of our dogs was bit by a Copperhead snake last night (Saturday night) while doing his business in the backyard. His foot and leg started swelling immediately and he was in excruciating pain. Luckily we knew that he got bit by the snake almost right away and I was able to get the snake while my wife was attending to him with a tourniquet to the leg to slow down the flow of the venom to vital body parts. We then called our regular veterinary clinic expecting to be referred to an emergency vet clinic since it was late Saturday night. We were referred to Carolina Veterinary Specialists in Greensboro, NC. We called them and informed them of the situation. They told us to bring him immediately. Please note that they are about a 30 minute ride from our house. I loaded up our dog into our vehicle and drove out to Carolina Veterinary Specialists. Upon arriving at the emergency clinic, I was informed that they couldn’t see him and that I had to wait with him in our vehicle anywhere from 2 to 4 hours before he could be seen by their emergency clinic personnel. By this time, an hour had passed since he got bit by the snake and I was waiting for him to potentially go into shock from the excruciating pain and also the venom circulating through his body despite the tourniquet. I was furious and asked them why they told us to come out if they knew they couldn’t tend to him immediately fully knowing it’s a Copperhead snake bite from our initial call to them! They had just wasted precious 30 minutes instead of referring us to another emergency clinic that could’ve have been able to tend to him right away. Two of the 3 Carolina Veterinary Specialists emergency clinic personnel that were there showed literally no empathy toward the situation or their screw up! They could not care any less, we’re unprofessional and didn’t even offer an apology. The third person there, despite being empathetic and apologetic, was low on the totem pole to be able to help us.Despite my anger toward the situation, my priority was to get our dog immediate medical care. I quickly disengaged from the situation, loaded our dog back in the vehicle and googled emergency vet clinics. I found one that was 15 minutes away, Happy Tails Emergency Veterinary Clinic. I called them and explained the situation. Initially the receptionist said that the wait was about 2 hours but that she’d check with the vet in light of our situation. A few seconds later she came back on the phone and said that they’d see him right away as soon as we got there. We made the 15 minute drive to Happy Tails and sure enough, they admitted him within minutes from arriving and the vet was on the phone with me (because of COVID restrictions) while I waited outside in the vehicle about 10 minutes after admitting him explaining next steps and treatment options. Here we are the next morning, Sunday morning, and we are still furious about our experience with Carolina Veterinary Specialists. We’re presently waiting to hear from Happy Tails Emergency Veterinary Clinic about our dog’s condition since they needed to hospitalize him overnight and administer anti-venom and pain medication.

I brought my dog in thinking the worst. They were very kind, and despite having two very critical cases come in after me they made sure my dog was evaluated and treated quickly, and put my mind at ease as soon as they could. Overall I thought I would have been waiting longer and it would have been more expensive. There were no unnecessary tests performed or treatments given. The information I received was thorough and explained in a way I could understand. Thank you CVS staff.

We just left so it’s very fresh in my mind. The lady who came and got our dog from the car and returned him was so rough. She returned him by keeping his leash so short his front paws were off the ground from her holding him up, practically dragging him by his back paws. He couldn’t breathe, he just had a blank face. I am NOT happy with that. If that’s how she treated my dog in front of us how did she treat him when it was just them?We tried to ask questions since we’ve never experienced this before and she gave no response, pretty much told us to wait until we get a call. I’m bringing my dog to this place because he has a problem going on, I’d appreciate it if I could know atleast something about how the procedure went.

Weve had wonderful experiences with the receptionist staff, especially Anita. Dr. Lew and her assistant have been awesome and very professional. Theyve shown concern for our dogs and were very clear about what was involved with the surgery.Six weeks post op one of our dogs had a lump at the bottom of her incision site. We called the hospital and were given an appointment for the following day for a re-check. No charge. We recommend this hospital and staff. They are specialist veterinarians so they arent cheap, but the care is excellent before, during, and after treatment.

Didnt seem overly compationate for emergency vets, they only seemed concerned with getting as much money from you as they can, but they dont know what they are doing. Ended up taking my 9.5 year old chocolate lab in April, seemed like he had some problems breathing and hacking on something. They ran some tests, took x-rays and did the scope down his throat, $800 later, said he had Laryngeal Paralysis. That i shouldnt walk him, no throwing the ball and really be careful with him and adjust his lifestyle. Well, hes over 10 now and can run around after the ball, walk and more. Turns out he got stung by a bee and his throat swelled up. Not happy I spent all that money and convinced me to change his lifestyle and he wouldnt be the same. WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE.

They show you recommendations based on their diagnosis with an itemized price listing per procedure. They start small with procedures and dont try to force you into something unnecessary. You know what you will pay before anything is done. All doctors have been excellent and no issues here. This is a 24 hour emergency vet. It is open on holidays too for your covenience. It is comparable to a hospital ER and can be busy. You may also spend some time here just like you would at an ER or even an urgent care. I am not sure why this surprises anyone and the staff cant predict your time here accurately anymore than the aforementioned places could.Front office staff friendliness can be hit or miss and I feel they could employ more folks in this area. This is a solid vet providing a service other vets dont

Within last month I brought my toy dog in for after hours emergency because he was screaming in pain and had hurt himself which I told them. He was given injections for pain and kept over night. This was helpful. However The doctor assigned to him assigned to him tested him for multiple illnesses such as seizure (which my other drs. said you dont have screaming with a seizure). She said he had serious heart disease-enlarged heart and stage 4 heart murmur! Put him on two heart meds. I found this hard to believe since my regular vet had never found any heart condition. Went to my regular vet next week and she said he did not have any heart murmur and toy dogs hearts are larger for their size than other breeds- could not imagine how CVS vet could have diagnosed heart murmur especially stage 4! Took him to one more vet for 3rd opinion and he concurred with my vet as to CVS vets unbelievable diagnosis. CVS charged me $1,200.00 and if I had not gotten second opinion no telling what heart meds would have done to him- maybe heart attack!I do not mind paying for care that is needed on my animals so the cost was not the issue it was the incompetence that I am objecting to. Then I called the office manager and left voicemail message about the whole incident and never called me back or contacted me in any way.I thought these drs were specialists at CVS. I chose this after hours practice over others but will not make that mistake again.

These vets and team are wonderful.I, unfortunately, had to meet them under tragic circumstances, my dog was hurt by an air pellet & sadly we had to let him go.This team was so kind, so attentive and made my Ace feel calm about a difficult and painful situation. They had him on oxygen and had almost around the clock care for him. They called in the night when his condition worsened and were so respectful and understanding in every decision we had to make along the way.The level of expertise is incredible and yet they explain exactly whats going on with your fur baby so you can follow clearly. As if what they did wasnt enough, this was not even two weeks ago and I just returned to town from a business trip. I came home to a package addressed to my family & my boyfriends family (we mentioned during admission that Aces father was co-owner ) a thoughtful touch that let me know they were listening. We chose to have Ace cremated and get a paw print for him. I got those packages the day after his passing. When I opened the package after my arrival home, this incredible team had signed a card sending condolences & given us two additional, beautifully made paw prints of Ace. I cried it was so thoughtful. From the receptionist to the specialist everyone was kind and sweet.Beyond impressed. My only complaint was the fact I was transferring her from my primary vet and the staff made me wait outside with her for over an hour. If you are in need of an emergency vet your situation is likely dire and you have few options. But if you find yourself here you have about a 50/50 chance of having your time wasted and your pets life endangered by the incompetent and indifferent staff. There are some kind, thorough, and thoughtful people on staff. I have encountered them. But an emergency clinic needs to do better than some. Before you visit, ask yourself how much you enjoy just a few of the following:Like waiting to have your animal received till reception forgets you are even there? Absolutely!Like leaving your animal an extra day because they didnt run the tests on time? No problem! (ps: the meters running and thats another $1k!)Like driving back across town because they didnt put all the medication in the bag? Check and DOUBLE CHECK!BONUS ROUND: would you like to be upsold a pill popper to administer that medication you paid for but they forgot? Thatll be another $10! Yep, the same pill popper your normal vet would give you for free. GOT YOU COVERED!Dont want our $10 pill popper because you just gave us thousands of dollars and are feeling a little ill-used? Just put the pill in his food, theyll quip. Wait: you say he wont eat and thats what one of the pills is for? Ironic. But theyll be too indifferent to notice.Maybe youll get lucky and meet one of the kind, empathetic souls that occasionally appear. I wish I could recommend other options, but sadly if you are here its probably the middle of the night and you are desperate.God help you.

I recently brought my dog in for a serious digestive issue. He had been very ill, and appeared dehydrated and sick. During the phone interview with Holly, she was very kind but, almost too thorough. I realize these visits are made more difficult by Covid restrictions, they cant see the dog I am describing. However, a starving, sick dog doesnt need to worry about flea meds.We did not experience any long wait others have complained of. Thats why I am giving three stars. They sent me home almost immediately upon arriving. Within the hour the doctor called me to say that he needed surgery. I could not afford to pay the emergency surgery price, so opted to go our vet first thing in the morning. They pumped some saline in subcutaneously and sent him home.My sweet boy died about three hours later. I am most concerned that the Carolina Vet offered me no pain meds for him. I did not see the printed comment about him having abdominal pain until after he passed away. If I had been told he was in pain, I would have asked for meds. The only positive I have, is that I did not leave him there to pass away with strangers. Carolina Vet, please remember that these animals have no voice, and it is your job to ensure they do not suffer needlessly.
