Down the Bayou Charters is THE choice for the best possible charter experience you could ask for. We stayed in the house boat on a Friday night, and then fished that next morning. From the moment we arrived until we left, everything was perfect. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.First, the lodging. When we arrived for our night in the houseboat we were welcomed by the entire Down The Bayou team, where they showed us to our rooms, and invited us down to the large and luxurious kitchen and living area. There was fresh pastalaya and jambalaya being cooked, and everything was hanging out, having a good time. Our captain Mikey came over and asked what our desired catch was and set a plan for the next day. Our room was a nice size and everything was extremely clean and meticulously prepared for us to have a comfortable stay.Now on to the fishing. Our captain Mikey, as well as the entire Down The Bayou team was amazing. They made sure we were fully accommodated, took us to the best fishing spots, and had snacks and drinks ready to go for the trip. We had a blast fishing with captain Mikey, as he constantly made sure our poles and bait were ready to go so that we could spend as much time fishing as possible. The boat functioned perfectly, was kept incredibly clean, and was well stocked with everything we could need.Overall, I could not have asked for a better experience, or for a single thing to go better than it did. Huge shout out to this team for making our stay a fun and productive one. I will definitely be using Down The Bayou charters again, and can’t wait to get back out on the water with this knowledgeable and friendly team!

These guys are the bomb. Super fun, super relaxed, and super accommodating. We caught a ridiculous amount of fish (BIG FISH), and everyone was smiling the whole way. The house boat they have for lodging is absolutely immaculate. The best part is all you have to do is walk out the back door to get on the boats. Captain Laine is my favorite guy Ive ever gone out with in any fish town. He has my business always. Thanks guys!

Very great experience tho I get sea sick and all. The crew staff were very down to earth accommodating us and making sure everyone was having a good time. It’s amazing to see such young guys running this place with such passion and integrity. Who love what they do and very obviously desire to share and give you THE GREAT EXPERIENCE. I encourage anyone looking into booking with them to do so without a doubt.They have a full kitchen which is perfect. So consider yourself without limit as to what to eat just make sure you come prepare for what you wanna cook. The whole experience was an event worth more than words can say.With all this said. Absolute blast with these guys! Captain Joey is incredibly knowledgeable and professional when it comes to fishing. We went over 100mi offshore on the hunt for some yellow fin. Sure enough, within an hour and a half of finally getting to our spot, we limited out on beautiful tuna. My freezer is overflowing with tuna steaks! 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants to have a great time and come home with plenty of stories and meat!

May 2019Yet another successful trip Down the Bayou with Capt. Joey! Joey & Mason put us on the tuna once again, boating 7 yellowfin and 15-20 good sized blackfin on our overnight trip last week. We caught some bonus scamp, cobia, and mahi on the runs in and out to the rigs. Also everyone had a lot of fun reeling in a few AJs and snapper even though they were out of season at the time. I would hands down recommend Down the Bayou Charters for anglers of all skill levels, as Joey is a great teacher, with extensive knowledge of the local fisheries; he always has a backup plan and a few tricks up his sleeve to help fill the box with as many fish as possible, and knows what to target next if something isn’t working out. The new FinCat is the ideal fishing boat; it’s smooth riding, handles chop well, outfitted with top of the line electronics and Bluetooth JL Audio sound system, and has a spacious fishing deck with ample room to spread out. The house boat has a nice “lodgy” feel to it, with an industrial grade kitchen to cook your catch, and a 65” flat screen to unwind behind after your trip. The bunk rooms and bed rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the main bathroom even has a jacuzzi and walk in rain shower.. a huge upgrade from the adjacent motels in the area!! I couldn’t recommend Down the Bayou enough, and will continue to make the 6 hour drive from Houston to come fish with with one of the best crews on the Gulf Coast. I cant wait for my next couple of trips Down the Bayou this coming August!

We caught a lot of fish. My favorite was the 17 black fin tuna. Joey and crew were always there to help us when any issues happened so we could get our poles back in the water. I told my dad and brother I’d love to go again!!!

Nothing short of great. I have known Captain Joey for my entire life and known Captain Austin for many years now. I have had the pleasure of being able to go fishing with both of them as a customer, as well as, work with them on the business side. These two captains know how to not only catch fish, but most importantly how to make the customers feel comfortable and have a fun time. Both of these captains are two of the only captains that do their research every day and feel passionate about what they do, they make sure your experience is the best it can possibly be. Also, what better way to go on a offshore or inshore charter fishing trip than to be able to stay on a lodge right next to the boat you’ll be fishing on? The house boat is great and most of the time will have someone cooking something with a nice Louisiana flavor! Overall a great EXPERIENCE!

Ive known and fished with Joey for years now, however, this weekend was the first time on Down The Bayou Charters. If Ive learned anything, its that every time I go, Im more impressed. Going with a bunch of guys who never go offshore, Joey worked tirelessly to provide the trip of a lifetime. The first rig we pulled up at, we caught an amberjack on every drop. The next stop was at the tuna grounds, we immediately landed to big 80 pounders, and kept hammering the blackfin and few other yellows all night. In the morning we headed to one of his swordfishing spots. We made 4 drops and hooked up 4 times! 1 fish we landed, 2 were too small, and finally we lost a monster at the boat.If you want to fish with someone who wont quit until youve made all the memories you can, and a group that knows how to fish, look no further.

I recently went on my first trip with down the bayou charters, and this is a first class operation. Captain Joey and Captain Austin are both very knowledgeable of the fishing area, and we caught more fish than I know what to do with. The lodge is spectacular and the food that was prepared was delicious. I plan on booking a trip with this outfit every year!

Great people with tons of knowledge on the local fisheries. Have fished in many boats and this one is extremely spacious comfortable and an all around a great boat to fish out of. Everything from swordfish to grouper and wahoo to tuna are not far off of the coast of Louisiana and these guys know how to find them. 100% would recommend someone going with these guys.

We used this charter for 2 different trips. Both trips were awesome. The first day we went out with Captain Austin and the second day we went out with Captain Austin and Captain Joey. They really know what they are doing and were awesome with the kids. We will absolutely be back. Just planned another trip for the fall and booked a fishing trip with them already. They will also have a boathouse by the fall that we will be staying in. Looking forward to the trip. We highly recommend this fishing charter.

Best fishing experience I’ve ever had. From the lodge to the boats to the captains. These guys do a awesome job. You get to stay on the water in their 5 star House boat lodge, then Jump right out of bed onto the boat. The Lodge is super nice especially the jacuzzi tub and the big walk in shower. Then Captain Austin put us right on the fish first thing in the morning. We came back home with our limit of fish and couldn’t have had a better time.

These guys have done an exceptional job every time I’ve been here and now they add a new addition.... some of the best cooking on the island!!!! Great day fishing with great food waiting on return a true Louisiana experience!

Joey and Brandon took us on a bucket list fish excursion, and they did NOT disappoint. The best Deep Sea charter I have been on! Went the extra mile to ensure we got all the fish we want with snapper, grouper, and maihi maihi! Captain Joey knows what he’s doing and he is amazing at making everyone feel at house at the massive house boat!

We showed up at 9am, got our limits of redfish before noon. My fiancé drove up after work and made it for 4pm. Took her out on the water and she caught her first redfish and trout of many. His offshore and inshore rigs are top notch. Top notch rods and gear. Capt Joey and Capt Austin enjoy crushing big fish. These guys love what they do and love putting customers on fish and make sure you enjoy the entire experience. Just got back from my best fishing trip of my 20 year fishing career...never imagined limiting out on reds and trout in a day full of fun...it was the exceptional knowledge of the area that Captain Austin used to put us on the fish...never disappointed...great day for me and my friends and cant wait to go back again...this is usually an annual trip but we may have to start going twice a year if its anything like this...for sure I will be a repeat customer!!!!

Been offshore with Joey many times, he’s as hard working as it gets and he will find Fish.

Joey did a great job. We limited out on Red Snapper (6 limits) in 25 minutes first thing in the morning. Then we moved to mangrove snapper to kill some time before we went after cobia. While catching cobia, we caught a bunch of jack cravelles and Bonita’s for fun. Great day fishing with a great captain.

These 2 young men know what they are doing. We started the day at daybreak and all 7 of us had our limit on red snapper and huge ones too! Killed the Mangro Snappers at the rigs and then caught some Jack Crevell and Cobia! Very fun to hang out with them!

Capt Joey put us on the fish! Racked up on Amberjack on the way out and then went and looked for some yellowfin tuna. We caught two nice ones right away and then the bite slowed down. I stayed up all night looking for my first yellowfin... Joey told me he was gonna get me that fish. Finally found it at 4am! Dropped for swords in the morning and every drop got a fish hooked within 5 minutes and went 3/4 on landing them in just an hour and a half. Joey and Mason were the swordfish whisperers! Both of them took the time to explain the different fishing techniques to me because I was really interested in learning. Highly recommend you take a trip out on the FinCat if you want to catch some serious fish and have a great time. I can’t wait for my next trip Down the Bayou!!

Now Im bout to tell you what we gonna done did down dat ole Bayo. Capt. Joey, Capt. Austin &=along with Junior (Best Deck Hand & Aspiring Chef Ever) are just as enthusiastic (if not more) as the clients they serve. Their knowledge, passion. and resourcefulness are 2nd to None. If you want to get on some fish & stay on them with minimal travel time, you definitely found the right place. Highly recommendable for YOU & 5 of your most Hard-Core Fishing Buds. Not exactly yourmother-in-laws trip, but I guess they can do that too, if you into that sort of stuff lol.
