TRIED to go here yesterday for a haircut and beard trim. Hours were posted outside, there was even a sandwich board on the street inviting people in, free parking in the back, signs trumpeting Old Fashioned Barber Shop, 4 Barbers, etc. I was there at 11:40. Closed as tight as a tomb. Not even the decency to post a notice of closure for (early) lunch or some (any!) other reason. Looking through recent reviews, I see that my experience was typical. If they cant be professional enough to honor their own business hours, what kind of hatchet job would they do to your hair? Dont waste your time. STAY AWAY!

Been a customer for over 15 years. The haircuts are great (4 stars) however, the service has gotten terrible. I went four times during business hours and they were closed. I tried 10 times over the course of a week to call and make an appointment before someone finally answered. Made an appointment and left my phone number. Got there at 9:20 today for my 9:30 appointment. No one there. Waited until 9:45 and still no one showed up. I get that things come up, but one called to cancel the appointment. This used to be a great place to go for a haircut. Im very disappointed in how downhill the service has went since Mark passed away. Im now to the point where I have to decide whether or not I ever go back.

The posted hours are a lue. I went there today twice, and not open at all. Some other men were there too, and they had a funerakbo go to.

A pleasant experience, tho understaffed. Once this covid nonsense is past, perhaps that will change. One pretty amazing gal😄!

Great barbershop and true to the term. I love walking in and sitting in a true barber chair to get my hair cut by a third generation barber. The building and business have been in Marks family for three generations. When I moved to Grand Rapids I searched all over for a good and simple haircut and couldnt be more pleased that I landed here. As soon as I walked in I felt like Id been going here for years. Great haircuts and lively conversation make going to get a haircut enjoyable. Did I mention the extremely reasonable price??? $10!!! Awesome :)

Ive been a regular here, for many years... NO MORE! Back when it was Mark, and a bunch of guys, it was a great place to get a haircut. Now, its only a couple of girls, and they close WHENEVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT. I cant count how many times Ive went there, between 4 and 4:30, and they were closed. I went there yesterday at 4:30, and they were closed. I went there today at 12:00, and they told me they wouldnt have enough time. I dont drive, so taking the bus/walking there, eats up a lot of my time. Between yesterday and today, Ive wasted about 3 hours, trying to give them my business. If youre not gonna keep to your hours, CHANGE THEM. End rant.

After a bad customer service experience at Foremost, we came here and the shop is a true old school barbershop. Honest people giving extremely reasonably priced cuts. The staff really give good cuts. IF theres one thing to say about the place is that there is a lady barber, Im not opposed to getting a cut from a lovely lady, its just a change from the traditional barbershop trend of male barbers. Its no big deal obviously, just a bit of a change up.

Awesome price. Im out the door for less with a tip than I am without a tip anywhere else. Shaved the head, neck, my fricken eyebrows. Efficient and buttered me up. Would highly recommend.

Good haircut at a reasonable price. Real barbers. Took me a while to find another good shop after my barbers of over 50 years closed. Only thing I am unhappy with is that they dont make appointments. A small price to pay for a good haircut.

Quick. Cheap. No-nonsense. Granted, Im an easy customer, but why pay $15-20 for the same haircut when I can have one of these fine gentlemen do just as good of a job for $8.Ive been happy all three times I have gone here.

One time the open sign was on during posted hours and all the lights were on inside, but doors were locked, and the last time I waited 45 min to be told I had to wait additional time once I was up because of a forgotten appointment. I agreed to the wait, but I was told 45 min, not an hour and a half. I liked the cut, I liked the price, but it isnt worth my time at this point.

Great haircut, wonderful staff! I went out tonight and got stares from everyone with my cool new style. They clean their stuff with barbicide. I’ve heard that it’s way better than UV lights, which don’t clean ... and are dangerous.

If you are looking for a genuine barbershop thats been there for for generations this is the spot. $8 haircuts with a neck shave. Good sharp lines and scissor over comb. Get your local news as you wait.I recommend Doug.

The barber across from my barber complained about his health problems the entire time I was there. I feel very sorry for him, however this was just horrible customer service. My barber did an exceptional job and kept saying sorry. So very uncomfortable.(The added photo is a Facebook message from the owner after I posted my review. ) By the way, I love my haircut from Doug.

Dont get your beard trimmed here. I got stuck with a female barber who ignored the picture I showed her on how I wanted my beard trimmed. She did what she wanted to do, and parts of it were crooked. Not a good experience, and the haircut wasnt that good. Now I remember why I stopped going to this place years back.Why is it so hard to find someone in this town who does a good beard cut???

A cheap and quick haircut, usually decent enough. However, the haircuts arent quick enough that you usually cant get out of there before hearing at least one racist/homophobic joke from one of the barbers, and some old white men yelling their political opinions at each other.

I went there the 4th or 5th of Oct. Mark wasnt there and was told he had a stroke by his new female employee. She was already cutting somebodys hair and said it would be 20 minutes which surprised me? She kept stopping to look over the haircut like she was trying to get the best haircut of all time. After about 10-15 minutes she started using her phone to take video walking around customer 360 very slowly. She laid her phone down and started trimming very lightly. She repeated this for another 5-10 minutes several times and I could feel my blood pressure rising. Finally after about 22 minutes she was done and I sat in the chair. I told her what I wanted. During the course of haircut, 5 minutes, she tells me shes a victim of spousal abuse and other things I didnt need to hear? On top of already being irritated, she hands me a mirror to look over my 5 minute haircut rather than turning me to the large wall mirror for an inspection. Once I got back home, in bright light, I noticed the worst uneven haircut I ever received. Never again will she cut my hair!

The owner complained how one of the staff member had quite and how he speeded thru hair cuts and how he had to fix them all the time. Here it comes he messed up on my hair cut and fixed for free the only good thing about it is he only has changed his price from $8 a haircut to $10 a haircut in 15 years

Cheap quality haircuts. Been going here almost a year now. Frustrated they arent open when they say they are going to be open. They routinely open late, close early, and close for lunch at random times. I like the place but I dont have time to get a hair cut when its convent for them so I decided to switch places.

My husband is disappointed because of the recent changes. It used to be an old timey barber shop but now he gets his haircut by young girls in tank tops. He could go anywhere for that. He misses the old guys who no longer seem to work there.

Cant beat the price but my haircut was pretty uneven on the sides and back, and I wish more was trimmed off the top but I never got a chance to look in the mirror and see what it looked like.
